Honestly, in retrospect, I wonder if I don't give Joseph Anderson enough respect. He kind of reminds me a little bit, of a more subdued version of myself. He also finds these little specific, but fundemental things about games that define the whole experience, and can just as easily ruin it, but everybody else is just too stupid and shallow to view it as anything other than "nitpicking" because they genuinely lack the perspective and capacity to engage with anything that doesn't immediately validate their feelings.
