What is going on? Why are all the big name games so fricked?
Why are the 2020's so bad for strategy and simulation games? I know there's plenty of other older games to play, but isn't it kind of disappointing that these titles that could have been good have just fricking sucked dog wiener?
Shills and complacency. Tendency for fans not to try out new games.
It can't be as simple as that.
That is one of the reasons. One Proud Bavarian, Andy's Take, Terminator. All shill channels with big followings.
They have a pretty good range. They published Shadow Empire. But some are duds obviously.
Are those Youtube channels? I've never heard of any of that.
>Andy's Take
Had no idea who this guy was until he showed up on the Field of Glory: Kingdoms discord to offer the most absurdly smoothbrained take about how the devs should have the little building icons somehow use the same style as Rome Total War's 3D building icons. All these content creators are straight up fricking moronic and I feel sorry for any game dev who makes the mistake of taking their advice to heart
I don't know about One Proud Bavarian, BUT
>Andy's Take
No just NO probably the worst out of all three
>One Proud Bavarian
>Victoria 3 videos
ew
hitler was an austrian chad
Not as much as Arnie tho.
I enjoyed OPB's Crusader Kings roleplay videos, too bad he's now stuck churning out videos trying to convince people that Victoria 3 isn't complete shit
You're not really looking well enough for good strategy games.
My point is that a vast majority of large titles released this decade have not only been absolute stinkers, but they have also been actually unplayable. As in they cannot even be played. Why is this happening more to these genres than to other genres of video game?
They get taken over by marketing departments and forced to sustain insane development schedules which means they can never adequately address tech debt, engine upgrades, bugs, fundamental design problems. It also means that some sequels don't have the bug fixes that their previous games had. All this came out during the creative assembly leaks.
Literally part of the problem, rather than a solution
True
People like you is reason why we never deserve anything better.
DW2 is a buggy trash heap. They've been bugfixing for years and it still sucks ass.
Hopefully Espiocracy actually comes out and doesn't suck
That's an emotional scam
>hurr hurr hurr emotional scam
Go back to that radlib and commie infested shithole of a discord server
Emotional scam is a homegrown /vst/-meme, you isralite.
It's already an in-joke in their cancerous discord server.
I'm not on discord and I'm a libertarian
Dominions 6 is coming out soon
Dominions 6 is already out. It's called Dominions 5.
Because Paradox and Creative Assembly, which have a virtual stranglehold and monopoly on their respective niches, know that the dumb fodder will buy any game they shit out, so they have no incentive for it to be good - just marketed enough for dumb morons to buy it.
>THE FREE MARKET WILL SAVE US!
but bernie told me that finsweden is a utopic socialist country
it is, compared to murica, not exactly a high bar
I mean on the sort of positive side, from all the leaked stuff from within CA they nearly destroyed themselves pushing out the turd that was Hyenas and all the SAGA TW games plus having a low-boiling internal revolt over how shitty things are. Even though I don't have high hopes there's still a chance for them.
As for Paradox they're fricked because they secured their bases by creating a brand cult of soys and trannies who will defend and play their games no matter how bad (see Vicky 3, CK III) and by using rabid fan armies to drown out criticism plus blanket bans and post deletions on their forums, discords, reddit, and other social media pages they can keep the illusion of a happy customer base going. The marketing there is kind of genius.
>Why are all the big name games so fricked?
Diversity hires take over HR and hire more diversity hires until meritocracy gets taken out back and shot in favor of the holiness spiral.
I agree its been a terrible year. Especially Paradox games.
I went from one of their biggest fanboys to cynical towards them. I do feel like the new beta for Victoria 3 is amazing though.
>namegay likes paraisraelite dlc factories
tell me more
The updates (dlc) for Stellaris are very good apart from hobbling leaders again, and, touching on their stifling of players, I can’t believe they that paradox has not restored the ability to manually designate sector systems.
I hope someone does some in-depth review on the development of Kerbal 2 at some point because holy shit the stars have to align to create a failure of that magnitude
The short answer is that a couple crowdfunding scam artists running a shell company duped the IP owners into paying them to develop the game without checking the receipts.
>2020's
why are you acting like the genre hasn't been in a crisis for a decade at least?
Because plenty of good stuff released in the 2010s. It was arguably the best decade ever for these games.
>spotted the Parashill Nu-Com fanboy
at least the upcoming indies are looking good, but who knows when they're coming out
god the brigador graphics make me coom every time, every game should use brigador graphics
devs relearning the art of pre rendered sprites warms my soul
This image brings back Fallout Tactics memories, might check it out later to see if it's any good.
>Kerbal Space Program 2
I don't play KSP, but I haven't heard any complaints about it like the other games that fricked up
>Crusader Kings 3
I heard this one is okay, new players seem to like it, it's just oldheads that are bored with it since it doesn't have all of CK2's stuff. But again, I don't play CK either so feel free to disregard my opinion here
>Grey Eminence
This game didn't even come out yet! Why are you counting it?
>This game didn't even come out yet! Why are you counting it?
I can just feel that it's gonna be shit.
>I don't play KSP, but I haven't heard any complaints about it like the other games that fricked up
must have been living under a rock then
What was wrong with it, gimme a qrd
NTA but it took them 8 months to finally add reentry effects
Thank you anons, I am now no longer blissfully ignorant
Oh right, I forgot, they must've done SOMETHING moronic about modding because there's no actual mods yet, it's just ui and qol things.
>I don't play KSP, but I haven't heard any complaints about it like the other games that fricked up
Literally unplayable on every single computer, including if you had 4080. Runs on the same exact engine as KSP1, data miners found that it also uses the same code. Every craft was rendered at all times, no matter where you were, so longer(read, save has more than 2 ships) saves started lagging even more. The saves also had a tendency to get corrupted so hard that the game itself would not launch anymore until you reinstalled it
Content wise, there was also the fact that it was asking for a total of like, what, 40 or 50$ for a quarter of the features that KSP1 actually had. There's no excuse, especially with it still running on the same engine. No clue if the lag is fixed now, it's been months so it most likely is?
Just so you understand how incompetent the devs are, the navball wasn't a shader or a spinning texture or anything like that. It was an actual 3d model with 120k (I think) verts.
>Content wise, there was also the fact that it was asking for a total of like, what, 40 or 50$ for a quarter of the features that KSP1 actually had
I had considered the fatal sin of preordering when the game was first announced, but once I found out about the monetization bullshit and cut promised content, I promptly and wisely rejected such notions, and I refuse to buy or play such slop on principle. I will admit they almost had me there for a second, before the other shoe dropped that is.
>SIGH, the more things change, the more they stay the same, I guess...
8 month in EA still no basic functionalitu of gameplau. entire team is dedicated to making trans kerbals with kween hair.
pointless tutorials that cater to no one but the girl bosses in hr.
built in malware that writes code to windows registers cant delete.
hires trannies for mods to harass all who complain how bad the game is in channels
>built in malware that writes code to windows registers cant delete.
lol what? As I said, I haven't been keeping up, no fricking way that's true, right?
Oh, it is. They somehow wrote new data to the registry every time you ran the game, and eventually the key they used would be too big to read properly anymore. Then, whenever a program tries to read this key, it would crash. Luckily, KSP2 is the only program affected by it, but it conceivable that even a slight change could have caused them to write to a much more important key, causing them to brick your entire OS.
>oldheads
kys homosexual, you Black personhomosexual
You know it's bad when they still didn't add science in ksp2.
Grey Eminence is never coming out. It's in dev hell
I seriously hope nothing bad happens to Ascendance.
>Grey Eminence isn't out
That's exactly the problem. They ran out of funding before they could get an alpha out, so they had to pause development to go do other work to raise funding themselves.
Lead dev said they're "looking at less than 2 years to restart" development as of early September.
That requires a ton of computational power.
and how was that game even gonna be anything but paradox mana clone, with even more samey feel for all times and nations?
What? Are you asking how Grey Eminence was going to be any different to Paradox's games? You can read their dev diaries to see. It's fundamentally simulationist in its approach rather than gamey like Paradox's. The economy is actually real, and there's no mana. That's basically the whole point of why they were making the game.
and how is it gonna be anything than an excel spreadsheet, you cant "simulate" centuries of totally different places?
nestinars.com/greyeminence
Here, go look at it yourself. No point in me just regurgitating things at you.
>you cant "simulate" centuries of totally different places?
Why not?
just seems like way too much, it would be better to do just europe first, no one cares about oooga booga land
Making systems that can encompass a wide variety of things from the start is much easier than trying to retrofit an already limited system into being less limited.
its way too much work obviously
sounds like a laziness issue
It's fricking sad, I'm still playing shit that I used to play nearly a decade ago like CK2 and GOY4. What went so wrong?
The 1 thing that will completely change every single strategy title (really any genre tbh) will be the introduction of AGI that can role play as the NPCs.
i.e. imagine playing something like HOI4 or Civilization or any other strategy game but you can actually communicate with the AI players at a human level and experience much more realistic diplomacy rather than just basic checkboxes that determine whether or not an AI accepts trade deals or alliances.
This would breathe so much life back into literally every existing game. I'm hoping we can see this, at least a basic form of it, within a few years.
No, thanks.
>"games that provide a better and more fulfilling immersive experience? no thanks, i just wanna play cookie clickers"
ok
how about at least saying why you wouldn't like it? too much social anxiety to interact with bots?
>unironically wanting proompting in your games
Who said anything about prompts? Put on a headset and use your voice to communicate just as you would with a human, brainlet
I'm a moron because you're too much of a moronic autist and your social anxiety makes you want to have a nice day just from talking to bots? lmao
Go back to your Victoria 3 cookie clicker you dumb homosexual. Why put strategy back into strategy games when morons like you can just load up a youtube guide and click your way to generic playthrough #81234
imagine wanting to talk with bots
moron
I'm going to ERP plap civ 6 cleopatra and there's nothing anyone can do to stop me
We don't need new game ever. Just a community that mod and fix the good games.
i dont agree with crusader kings 3 and galactic paragons being put in the same picture as those other massive flops
CK3 has very little to do in it.
yeah but the others are straight up disasters
Lotta slop, like looking into a trough
I'll stick with 20+ year old titles
The fact that half of those are sequels made by money-grubbing monopolies should tell you.
this is a bait thread
i hate you
Is it still bait if it is my honest thoughts?
Whats wrong with Grey Eminence its hasn't even launched yet?
It got cancelled this year.
Damn really? Why the frick do they still have a steam page up then?
>We're pausing development while we work to secure funding for the game.
>29 May 2023
No activity on Twitter, either.
Society started dying after 2012, it took a few years for video games to catch up and Strategy games were the last holdout but now even strategy games are dying off.
John Smith from Texas Oblast here. I am of agreeance comrade. Western society is decline and I am of the doing demoralised utterly.
Paradox makes games for 19 year old middle class Americans with birdsnest hair, brand new cars and a white picket fence mcmansion one highway ride away from every city in America. They listen to dia lupa and speak in ebonics despite being paler than than printer stock.
They used to make games for 3rd world shoeless hispanics that played on a 2005 acer laptop with a silver-plastic finish that they set on top of a 2 person kitchen table in a 1 bedroom house with 6 family members in the middle of a city of 200,000 built next to a quarry.
What I'm saying is the soul is gone. Logan just wants the immediate satisfaction of drawing arrows in HoI4 and thinking he's clever for playing a game that has numbers on the screen. Juan's computer can't even run Victoria 3.
worst post today, they made games for euro autists, esl shitskins like you will never have soul
>despite being paler than than printer stock
ameribros we're so fricking back, the white race is saved
>one highway ride away from every city in America
what is this even supposed to mean
CKIII is pure greed. They sell their dlc at the same price as the base game was priced on release. The improvements to CKII are minimal and not satisfying and the game is streamlined considerably to remove the chance of defeat. Unfortunately, it will be some time before the playerbase realises, the CK playerbase (paradox) is far behind Total War on the road to revolting against the developers.
With Total War it appears the pigs have finally realised they are eating slop.
>FRICK all Subhuman
>FRICK All the bots
>FRICK All the Shills
I see human typing shit here in This thread and I feel fine .
The only strategy game I’ve liked sun the 2020s was Age of Wonders 4 but I never played the previous games
for all intents and purpose I dont think CK3 really failed
it at least have little soul left and you could feel that someone in the dev team "tried"
other are just pure slops that dont even works
please learn English, you spic/pajeet manlets
t. embarrassed ESL
have a nice day, gay.
english cuck language, i manly, 100% serbian stock, frick eol, castrate yourself
what have serbs accomplished in the last years?
being roach rapebabies?
we all can play this game
>reddit spacing
NTA but when you start working you will realise that proper spacing makes your message way easier to read.
I still can't get ober how KSP2 can brick your computer.
Thabkfully I don't buy pzzware so not my problem.
But have you actually sucked dog wiener, OP?
>you VILL follow ze Ganker style guide
I've had fun with Shadows of Forbidden Gods, Against the Storm, Songs of Conquest and X4: Foundations this year. Bigger titles haven't really seemed interesting.
Because corporate culture, that's why. The second you start trying to make games in a design-by-committee safe space that's primary purpose before anything else is the bottom line, then you have a recipe for a shit game. When games are made by tight-knit small teams with passion and a sense of personal ownership over what they're building together, at a minimum you're far more likely to get something interesting. Take that away and you get people punching in to work on whatever atomised section of code they've been tasked with, and of course they're not going to be invested enough to do more than the bare minimum. And that's not even touching on the cancerous effects of HR and marketing departments that exist purely to siphon corporate money for whatever superfluous moronation they think actually matters. Not to mention non-gamer executive meddling to cut dev time to improve profit projections, or cut beloved features to save money or repackage into DLC later.
It takes someone truly talented and influential within a company to avoid these sorts of problems and those kinds of auteurs are being systematically weeded out in the West by prevailing corporate culture because they're considered "problematic" or dumb trendy shit people with worthless degrees but high opinions of themselves say. Heavily corporate development studios are where creativity, passion, and drive go to die in the face of the elevation of profit-seeking, rank incompetence.
