Dude i like you. You're one of the few who knows his shit when it comes to famicom rpgs, but you should stop defending this game. It's an overly long, overly tedious pile of nothing.
How is it a pile of nothing? The game has a shit ton of content, tons of enemies, lot's of freedom on party choice, lot's of spells, lot's of different locations with different graphics. The standard for first person console RPGs up to that point were games that had 10 hours of content at the most
Have been wanting to try this out because I LOVE the way it looks, but like
smtgay here, if you really want to play megami tensei 1, play the snes remake kyuuyaku megami tensei. the password system in the nes game is bullshit. i would recommend megami tensei 2 because it's a giant improvement over the first one, but whatever floats your boat.
The only real issue I had with the game was some late game enemies that would crash the game. I still have on idea if that was an intended mechanic by the game (there is a "bug" enemy after all...) or a glitch (maybe from the translation). That and there was another crash earlier on, make sure to make a savestate as backup every half hour. But once I knew which enemies, I would just run away.
The game expects you to draw maps. And sometimes there is a difficulty spike when a new area is reached so you're expected to grind a little, something which is solved with about 45 mins of grinding, catch new demons, sometimes reaching the next level cap so you can fuse better demons, or raise money to upgrade your gear. Although sometimes there are multi-paths, some areas that can be accessed early on through different paths, and even an optional area, so if you find a new area that seems too hard, make sure you've explored everything in the previous area already.
Chex Quest is an RPG, it has stats and is an immersive sim. I can use the console to go to the next map, which shows it has multiple solutions to complete the level.
Remember the general rule of "this game sucks/is great" posts
If they're OP, their opinion is negatively amplified.
If all they had to say is "shit sucks", with no reasons, or even a hint of what the game is, it's negatively amplified
If they use buzzwords surrounding the game, the opinion is negatively amplified
As such, OP is just a shill thread for SMT 1 for the NES. Gonna go try it out now, been looking for an RPG to play

Played the KMT versions recently and it was one of my greatest gaming experiences in a long time. Great frickin games. I expect the NES versions are also great and OP is full of shit or just wants discussion.
I beat KMT 1 but got filtered KMT 2, I havent played it in months and I'm not sure if I want to replay everything from the beginning or pick it up where I left
I didn't play the K version, but MT2 gets really easy once you get a demon that can revive allies, which iirc is around the 40-50% point. Reviving in restores all HP and MP, in other words you can get more use out of spells. Then later on you can get a second demon with the revive spell and at this point it's game over, because you can create a chain that lets you have infinite MP (revive allies to refill MP with your first demon, once *he* runs out of MP, refill him by using the second demon with the revive spell, thus you can now spam spells, let you demons die, revive them, and repeat forever; ).
also buffs and debuffs can be stacked and work on EVERY boss. you can literally crippled any boss by reducing its attack power
I'm surprised. Personally I found KMT 2 easier, overall, just harder to navigate since the game isn't one huge dungeon and there's a lot of little settlements.
It's certainly a better game than the first one, I hope you go back to it someday
I'm not sure how to explain myself, like I found KMT2's start cool with the game within a game and clearing out the bunker, I kind of started to lose interest/get burned out during ginza before you lose your arm I think
I said I wanted to replay KMT 1 because I'm not sure or can't remember if I unlocked the extra content you get for KMT 2, whatever that is
Ginza is still pretty early on, probably around the 10% mark, it's where I started drawing maps so it's the point the game gets real. IIRC it's around that point that the first difficulty spike, the horde of Bucaboo
But here is a protip for you, I actually don't remember if it's accessible this early on, but in Ginza there is a room where you find an Emerald, which in the right places, you can trade for items if you trade the item and come back to the Emerald room, you can get another one; thus stock up on helpful healing items and the only limit is how much time you're ready to waste going back&forth between those two points

Try the SNES version of Drakkhen.
Why anon?
I love megaten but that game is bullshit, I spent a lot of points into strength and the Mc still does jackshit damage
Then you've never played a bad game in your life
Should have played the Kyuuyaku version.

>Dude i like you
You guys should hang out and play co-op games together. It could be the start of a beautiful friendship.
How are you two gonna play co-op /vr/ games over the internet? As far as I know, most /vr/ online games were competitive/PVP, not co-op.
I specifically said that you should hang out, moron.
It's been possible to play 8-16 bits emulated online for like 15 years, then you can do mame as well. Not sure about anything after that

God the fricking Bucaboo hordes. I was so happy when my waifu Rosanna finally learned Maziolaon

Same, I beat KMT 1 & 2 a while ago and it's a great experience.
Kyūyaku Megami Tensei is where its at
https://www.romhacking.net/translations/6202/
It's just as bad and barely fixes any issues the original has
