Well yeah. This isn't new. P5 had less pronounced animations than P3 and P4. P3 arguably had less pronounced animations than P2.
The reality is that the clearer and more detailed the characters are, the less you need to rely on exaggerated body movements. On the contrary, if you make them overly expressive, it can just end up looking awkward. Things like Junpei moving his entire body to show his shock was just meant to make up for the fact that the character models had no facial expressions.
Even persona Q is rated M. I assume since Japan has more in between age ratings than America that if it’s too much for a T it just has to go all the way to M. I checked the jp ratings for the persona games at some point because I was curious and yeah in Japan they’re meant for teenagers to be able to play

P2 had the Gymnopedie, Clare de Lune and Pathetique as songs that would play in the Velvet Room and it got me wondering what classical pieces would fit for P3's Velvet Room? I think Gymnopedie fits with the games' atmosphere nicely.
I made it about 4 hours but wanted to drop it as soon as I saw they cheaped out on Orpheus awakening scene. This game looks as cheap as a SMT games or soul hackers 2. This isn't persona level quality.

There's some kind of issue where the "out of focus" elements downscale into jagged and horrible messes.
It also happens for a split second when you're changing menus and the previous menu flicks into a low res version before changing to the new menu
It only happens on higher than 1080p resolution. The menus in general lack the smoothness of P5 menus. You have to wait for transitions before making inputs, whereas in P5 you can already do inputs before the menus have properly changed.
Best example is the hold-up menu in P5, where you can just spam triangle to do an all-out attack before the input menu comes up and you can very smoothly go from knocking everyone into an all-out attack without any delay. P3R feels much slower and less responsive by comparison since you have to wait for the menu animations before making your inputs. It's very noticeable to me in combat when selecting Persona skills for example

I’m 8 hours in playing on Mercilless and I’m happy that it’s actually balanced unlike 5. It’s still annoying to have to play on the hardest possible setting to get anything approaching what would be normal mode in an old Atlus game, but the game does actually expect you to know what you’re doing to an extent. I’ve had to think and strategize more in 8 hours than I did in 120 hours of 5R. It also seems to lack the gigantic weakness multiplier that mercilless had in 5.
Yeah it's surprisingly uncucked compared to p5r's merciless. It's reasonably balanced for intending you to manually control your members unlike p3p which was a joke. Even with turbo autistic experience in p3 it's pretty good, and I can imagine I'd be having a much tougher time if I didn't already have foreknowledge on all this stuff
P5 was already on the easier side, and Royal just made the game much easier with gun and confidant changes and by the fact that every player gets access to free and OP personas without even having the option to turn them off. The merciless difficulty is a joke in that game, since hard is in most cases actually harder.
But yeah, Merciless in P3R has been fun for me too so far, it's been a long time since I played P3 so I don't remember really any of the details concerning quests and social links and it's been great
It gets easier later on but you still have to try which is a welcome change
I do wish that there was more effort put into making status effects viable against bosses, maybe by putting in more adds that are vulnerable to them or something.
Sometimes they're actually really handy, like I've needed them in a few monad doors and it was way better than trying to brute force it
Status effects in Megaten are hilariously unbalanced. There's no way to make them work as they are without making every boss fight a complete and total cakewalk.
Harder than any Persona game and indeed the majority of mainline games, so I don't see what the point is of Status ailments being so OP. They just provide you with more options, obviously they're balanced around having to focus on them to make them work and having diminishing efficacy. That's much better than having a mechanic that you straight up disable for any fight that actually matters.

Something that always kinda bothered me is how the boss music for Nyx Avatar is a remix of Aria of the Soul. Why is that? Nyx doesn't have anything to do with the Velvet Room.
So you know how Ryuji is like your twin? It's not exactly subtle writing, but Nyx or Death was once a visitor like the MC. It was given power but unlike the MC, didn't have bonds or friendship, and was alone. Before when the higher beings didn't even know the concept of an end, Nyx spread itself through death to connect with people. You can see it in its design as a cracked seed, nestled with webbed hands grasping at air, having tried to grow but ultimately failing. The Fall didn't happen necessarily because Nyx wanted it, but enough people had yearned for it so it obliged.
What the frick that's some head canon shit. Nyx is an alien, it's psychic power is what created the sea of unconsciousness in mankind. Nyx is the mother of both the shadows and the Velvet Room, that's why Ryoji's theme is a remix of Poem for Everyone's soul. Ryoji is your twin because MC incubated Death (Ryoji's base form) for a decade inside his own soul.
So I understand that they didn't want to make a new model for Alp or Ares, hence why they replaced them with Silky and Mithras.
But why did they get rid of Ubelluris? They have an HD model for that.

Gamepass. It's kind of boring 20 hours in. They could have gone into way more interesting places with the story already and this constant commodification of relationships doesn't sit right with me. The reason I should hang out with these shitters should be because I enjoy their company and not because I want +1 STR for my Persona fusion or a buff on a skill. The lighting is also atrocious. Like they turned the brightness and contrast way up. It's missing that certain look from Persona 3. Another issue I have is the Moon bosses which just reject any weakness and just become damage sponges until you throw your super powerful attacks with buffs and debuffs applied at them. I actually wish the game was solely Marathoning the Tartarus. That way you can still have bosses with weaknesses because holding out on a run for say 10-15 floors could provide the challenge. Silent protagonists which characters constantly suck off are hacky and I know I'm not gonna feel anything for him dying at the end! FORCED BITTER SWEETNESS

Just simply being invested in the characters should be enough. If that is impossible on its own terms then the story failed. Simply grinding out shit stories for a possible stat boost just isn't fun to me.
I mean it's a video game. If the social sim elements didn't contribute to the action elements then the game would be guilty of failing to connect its two main gameplay features.

I understand the attempt here, that's not the issue. I'm saying that it's an extremely cynical way to try making me engaged with people by paying me which contradicts what the story is trying to convey. You'd give answers to characters through your self-insert you would in normal circumstances never do just to boost a bit of their invisible friendship meter for that 10 Star Social link for example. It's shit and I don't like it.

It's literally soulless, there are plenty of better remakes out there and FES is still the best way to play P3, the only way you could possibly think otherwise is that you're a dumbass that was filtered by not being able to control your party members or an NPC that thinks PS2 graphics are "icky" and prefers generic soulless slop
It's not just that. Older games were frustrating. You'd spend hours in the Velvet Room fighting with the RNG to get a decent skillset on a Persona. OG Elizabeth is the toughest boss in all of Persona as well. Maybe not as high if you count all of Megaten, but if it's just Persona then she takes he cake.
At any rate, it's a low bar. None of the games are hard. P2 is piss easy and practically plays itself, either version. P1 is just kind of annoying. Snow Queen Quest is harder, and also the game doesn't actually tell you that you're gimping yourself if you don't do the towers in a specific order. To really understand just how easy the series is, P4G is easy as frick and it's still probably harder than P2. Persona was always Megaten for hypercasuals.

It's very repetitive and combat is too easy. I don't think I'll finish it. Needs a skip animation button for stat boosting activities and combat. I looked it up to see how far I was and there's another 200 floors of Tartar sauce to look forward to and the social stats need a combined 400+ points to max. Almost feels like the game was designed to be played over the course of a real life year piece by piece but who the frick does that.
it's a shame because some of the arrangements are have more modern elements that sound nice but the singer is noticeably worse at english. some of the singing style is too modern western female vocalist technique sounding for me, sounds like adult contemporary/smooth jazz singing at times.

I don’t remember but in the OG did it tell you if a social link was available at a particular location on the menu? I don’t remember this. Granted I was 15 and moronic when the original came out but I remember making hand written notes about who to meet and on which dates. In the remake you can just hover over a spot and it tells you which social links are there and which ones will level up

The reality is that the clearer and more detailed the characters are, the less you need to rely on exaggerated body movements. On the contrary, if you make them overly expressive, it can just end up looking awkward. Things like Junpei moving his entire body to show his shock was just meant to make up for the fact that the character models had no facial expressions.

It only happens on higher than 1080p resolution. The menus in general lack the smoothness of P5 menus. You have to wait for transitions before making inputs, whereas in P5 you can already do inputs before the menus have properly changed.
Best example is the hold-up menu in P5, where you can just spam triangle to do an all-out attack before the input menu comes up and you can very smoothly go from knocking everyone into an all-out attack without any delay. P3R feels much slower and less responsive by comparison since you have to wait for the menu animations before making your inputs. It's very noticeable to me in combat when selecting Persona skills for example

I’m 8 hours in playing on Mercilless and I’m happy that it’s actually balanced unlike 5. It’s still annoying to have to play on the hardest possible setting to get anything approaching what would be normal mode in an old Atlus game, but the game does actually expect you to know what you’re doing to an extent. I’ve had to think and strategize more in 8 hours than I did in 120 hours of 5R. It also seems to lack the gigantic weakness multiplier that mercilless had in 5.
Yeah it's surprisingly uncucked compared to p5r's merciless. It's reasonably balanced for intending you to manually control your members unlike p3p which was a joke. Even with turbo autistic experience in p3 it's pretty good, and I can imagine I'd be having a much tougher time if I didn't already have foreknowledge on all this stuff
P5 was already on the easier side, and Royal just made the game much easier with gun and confidant changes and by the fact that every player gets access to free and OP personas without even having the option to turn them off. The merciless difficulty is a joke in that game, since hard is in most cases actually harder.
But yeah, Merciless in P3R has been fun for me too so far, it's been a long time since I played P3 so I don't remember really any of the details concerning quests and social links and it's been great

They just provide you with more options, obviously they're balanced around having to focus on them to make them work and having diminishing efficacy. That's much better than having a mechanic that you straight up disable for any fight that actually matters.

Gamepass. It's kind of boring 20 hours in. They could have gone into way more interesting places with the story already and this constant commodification of relationships doesn't sit right with me. The reason I should hang out with these shitters should be because I enjoy their company and not because I want +1 STR for my Persona fusion or a buff on a skill. The lighting is also atrocious. Like they turned the brightness and contrast way up. It's missing that certain look from Persona 3. Another issue I have is the Moon bosses which just reject any weakness and just become damage sponges until you throw your super powerful attacks with buffs and debuffs applied at them. I actually wish the game was solely Marathoning the Tartarus. That way you can still have bosses with weaknesses because holding out on a run for say 10-15 floors could provide the challenge. Silent protagonists which characters constantly suck off are hacky and I know I'm not gonna feel anything for him dying at the end! FORCED BITTER SWEETNESS

Just simply being invested in the characters should be enough. If that is impossible on its own terms then the story failed. Nah, they made it easier. P3FES is probably the hardest Persona game. Maybe second-hardest if you count the Snow Queen Quest in P1.

It's not just that. Older games were frustrating. You'd spend hours in the Velvet Room fighting with the RNG to get a decent skillset on a Persona. OG Elizabeth is the toughest boss in all of Persona as well. Maybe not as high if you count all of Megaten, but if it's just Persona then she takes he cake.
At any rate, it's a low bar. None of the games are hard. P2 is piss easy and practically plays itself, either version. P1 is just kind of annoying. Snow Queen Quest is harder, and also the game doesn't actually tell you that you're gimping yourself if you don't do the towers in a specific order. To really understand just how easy the series is, P4G is easy as frick and it's still probably harder than P2. Persona was always Megaten for hypercasuals.

Whenever there's a day you can do a social link, make sure you're doing them. Prioritise the characters you like the most. Don't worry about doing it all in one playthrough, you're not going to enjoy the game that way.

It's very repetitive and combat is too easy. I don't think I'll finish it. Needs a skip animation button for stat boosting activities and combat. I looked it up to see how far I was and there's another 200 floors of Tartar sauce to look forward to and the social stats need a combined 400+ points to max. Almost feels like the game was designed to be played over the course of a real life year piece by piece but who the frick does that.

I don’t remember but in the OG did it tell you if a social link was available at a particular location on the menu? I don’t remember this. Granted I was 15 and moronic when the original came out but I remember making hand written notes about who to meet and on which dates. In the remake you can just hover over a spot and it tells you which social links are there and which ones will level up

All the older tracks in Reload are worse. Not only are they missing the punch feeling sanitized in the process but they also make the songs sound less weird. At least It's going down now is a banger although it sounds more like a P5 track.
