Unreasonably slow battle load times. moronic steal system. Half the party useless morons. Incomprehensible world and setting (random furries, some entirely unique species). Disney-tier story with asspull aliems at the end.
>moronic steal system.
I'm split on that. Zidane being able to steal future gear is great, but the steal rates and lack of anything beyond Bandit and Master Thief, the latter of which is long-off, to improve your odds is really bad.
>Half the party useless morons.
False.
>Incomprehensible world and setting (random furries, some entirely unique species).
How is that any more ridiculous than Nanaki being in VII with no explanation, VIII having Moombas and aliens, or X having Ronso and Guado? It's Final FANTASY for a reason.
>Disney-tier story with asspull aliems at the end.
Oh no, characters traveling to another world in a Final Fantasy game. That's never happened before.
Because it's kiddy trash. I mean just look at it. How can you take it seriously? Look at the Chad energy that Cloud emanates compared to those kiddy designs.
It's definitely not underrated but it's also not memorable at all. Nothing in the story, characters, or even music is memorable enough to scream that it's a great game. Anyone's subjective opinion to argue with me keep it to yourself because I'm right and you're wrong IX is the weakest of all FFs outside 2
Because it is. It's a Ganker meme just like "DS1 is only good in the first half" or "Fallout 2 has too many pop culture references". They're things that no one thinks or says, except here for attention.
The Dark Souls meme is true and is referenced in countless hours-long video essays. FFIX's load times were more tolerated during its release and people soured towards it over time after multiple replays. But here's a real redpill or you: FFIX was marketed as a return to classic FF, but that was just a front for the fact thay it's really the biggest Dragon Quest clone in the series. It was developed right before the Enix merger and they wanted to condition Western audiences towards the DQ formula so they could double dip. Unfortunately they only made three of the characters likeable, missing the point of DQ. I say this as someone who bought FFIX day one and still rank it in his Top 5 FFs.
The same thing happened with Chrono Cross. They wanted to trick people into buying a Square-flavoured Dragon Quest without the star power and budget behind Chrono Trigger, and no one fell for it, so they pivoted towards the FFVII Compilation instead.
I'm the smartest guy in the room right now and we live in the timeline where the superior FF is getting a ton of remakes and spinoffs. I'm as relaxed as can be BUDDY.
Because they were starting to move towards "cooler", more realistic style that appealed to more people, and then suddenly threw the car in reverse and out came the chibis.
Curb appeal is some shit people just don't properly understand. FF9 is fricking awesome and I love almost every character in it, but the cast is definitely one that you have to get to know. If you just look at it from a distance, everyone looks weird and unlikable.
I dropped it at the cave where you fight the box water monster thing. I couldn't beat him for some reason, he just kept wiping my party immediately and I didn't like the game enough to keep trying. Now I'm playing IV and its way better.
Deviated from the hyper-ADHD technological adventures of VII and VIII.
The thinking man's Final Fantasy.
it's shit after disc 2 and I'm tired of pretending it's not
oops posted the wrong image
I think you got the wrong image, OP.
Why do fans of IX & XII have such inferiority complexes?
These threads are made by shitposters. OP most likely doesn't even play any fricking Final Fantasy.
Keep seething, ninelet.

One of the worst FFs.
Hey look, a VII troony who can't stand the fact that your game isn't the best.
truth hurts huh
>Unreasonably slow battle load times.
Fair enough.
>moronic steal system.

not quite as soulful as 7. still good though

You’re just wrong on the music.
Has incredible vibes of dark fantasy throughout, mirroring the story beats
the battle system is too slow
FFIX released right before the PS2 launched and got immediately overshadowed by the next-gen graphics and fully voice acted cutscenes of FFX.
nah not really
It's generally considered the best, or one of the best. Despite the 'sloooow combat' meme I've seen on here.
How the frick is it a meme, it’s plainly visible and a huge problem

This post is what happens when Ganker becomes too conspiracyminded.
Just, damn man. Go eat some wheaties or something and relax.

IX is a tonal mess.

>e-girl Tifa exists
>virtually no porn of her
What the frick, fellow dickyseurs?
Wrong image bro
it's one of the most loved FFs
>muh nostalgia
>muh references
Shut up.
cookie cutter. safe. no risks.
yep and it applies to
too
i used to think you were wrong but now that my tastes have improved i think you're right
IX is great, but VII isn't trash. That said, I do hate how VII overshadows every other Final Fantasy.
I dropped it at the cave where you fight the box water monster thing. I couldn't beat him for some reason, he just kept wiping my party immediately and I didn't like the game enough to keep trying. Now I'm playing IV and its way better.
released way too late in the ps1's lifespan, the PS2 was literally months away
