World ain't fair.
pretty hard for most probably
us god gamers can appreciate it
not enough Black men
No co-op or versus.
Epic store
This. Some gaming sites shilled it, but Epic store filtered most people. Others pirated it but wasn't enough to be a big hit.
This is actually the answer. It really is a good game too.
steamcels don't deserve good games
uniornically this. epic literally shielded dd2 from being seen as the shit game it was till it came out
if it was available from steam early on, game would've been 10x better.
epic games are where games are done purely for earning money.
Dragon's Dogma 2 is out?
Dogma balls
DD2 is unsalvageable trash, it fundamentally doesn't work out. I would just play Slay the Spire if I wanted quick rogue like runs. DD is about base buildig, overarching campaign and risk analysis where stakes can affect your entire 50 something hour runs. DD2 has none of that. Black Reliquary is what DD2 should have been.
Oh noes, epic store ruined my copy of the game on playstation.
Hey you're not allowed to play games that are on console on a console.
epic store shit really exposes how bad newfigs are at pirating
Can't spell ESG without EGS

Holy fricking kek
>our fixation with game mechanics
why are gamers so fixated on how games play rather than the heckin minorities? Is this because of the orange man or the south african twitter man?
It is well received in China. Journalists should not have a job.
>What kept it from reaching overwhelmingly positive reviews?
well, it sucks
they made an easy mode for (you)
Ironically the aging mechanic, the main selling point of the game, was the worst part. It only exists to waste your time and hide how short/easy the game really is.
>aging
>easy
Based game, I love it
Hoping for a sequel which takes on a mega man structure, where you choose which boss to go after, and each boss has a different fighting style which you absorb when you defeat them
So you can go and defeat the boxer and get tons of boxing combos and evasive moves, then defeat the muay thai guy and get clinch knees and hard round kicks, then smash the drunken master and get all his wacky moves, and so on
Nah, the point is for it to encourage replay as well as act as a kind of soft score system
You're supposed to make one attempt and fail part way through the campaign, because you get too old to make it through. Then you're supposed to go back to the start and redo levels to get further while dying less.
It's a decent idea, a way to make "play it over again from the start" more palatable
Also why you have to repeatedly unlock skills to get them permanently, it means you can try out different skills on different runs, and when you find one you really like, you use that run to unlock it
>REQUIRE minmaxing
Literally how
If anything only a few of the skills are really strong
Iirc the late shrine bonuses are good but I don't get those often anyway
t. hardest difficulty enjoyer
Shitter filtered
it filtered DMC babbies
>design a game around getting killed and improving and repeating this on each stage until you reach a point of mastering each stage layout and what to expect
>don't make that process fun at all
>instead of encouraging minmaxing, REQUIRE minmaxing to finish the game on the normal difficulty
>don't do anything to make permanently unlocking moves less of an annoyance
wow how could this game not be popular??? IT MAKES NO SENSE
Okay I swear I don't usually say this shit, but if you think you have to min-max to beat this game, you honest to god got filtered.
>require getting good to beat the game
>filter every subhuman
Based fricking sloclap
The whole "spend your EXP on the same move five times over to keep it" is just antithetical to how people play games. The only one who could actually keep track of what moves he currently "has" is probably the lead dev who came up with that moronic idea.
>spend your EXP on the same move five times over to keep it
Huh, I just considered it part of the consequences of death. It didn’t bother me much since I just prioritized the 3 moves most useful for me and perma-unlocked one after the first level
Much harder than Sekiro. I got filtered hard by the downswipes on third level boss.
>EGS killed initial release hype
>difficulty filtereing journos killed shilling
>unlock mechanic killed experimentation
That being said, I absolutely love the game.
My only real gripe with it being the move unlocks. Too many were caught up in being efficient and googling/youtubing "best moves to unlock first"
If they had delayed the game until they had the easy difficulty and mods on day 1, it would've been an instant classic.
You know despite all the modifiers they added in they don' let you do a whole run with then it's just one level. I think that is lame.
borned in the era where every chink game is automatically deemed dogshit.
>What kept it from reaching overwhelmingly positive reviews?
Failed to meet the slop quota, not enough hooks like RPG elements and numbers going up, too focused on just being a fun game.
Most of the advertising for the game was done by Sony, and even then it didn't give a clear idea for what the game would be like since it was just cinematic and live action trailers so it didn't have much of a chance on consoles. Then it got announced as a limited-time EGS exclusive and that killed it for PC as well.
>What kept it from reaching overwhelmingly positive reviews?
Two words, I'm sure you can figure it out.
The game?
Amazon forest.
I just lost the game.
It released on Epic Store first and was practically forgotten.
Too hard for a lot of people, I think they did later patch in an easy mode though
What a fantastic game.
And it released without any problems or game breaking bugs.
They have added some game modes cosmetics and QoL fixes but the game released perfectly, 0 problems with it.
Getting the hidden ending on my second playthrough was one of the most satisfying moments in gaming last year.
best song of a fantastic OST.
9 mins live action short
Frick what a great game
>9 mins live action short

Wu-Tang Clan ain't nothing to frick with
Oh it's the Thousand Pounds dude, I used to watch his videos all the time.
Good to see that he's successful now.
I encourage everyone in this thread to replay the game on the hardest difficulty they added post launch
Enemies and bosses get new attacks and shit
Epic timed exclusive.
It's a hard game, epic store, and the progression system wasn't explained too well with move unlocks, shrine rewards etc. when it comes to replaying levels for a better chance at making it to the end with low age.
That being said, it was really fun to actually get good at the game. I never did manage a no death run, Yang always got me once.
Is hard game really a viable point anymore? Even normalgays love souls games and the like these days
souls can be hard but combat isn't complex
things can be hard and fun and things can be hard and frustrating, which is something that people seems to miss, finally killing Artorias for the first time is hard but fun, having to run from the bonfire to the boss is tedious and time consuming
SIFU is the same, fighting the bosses is great fun, having limited tries before you have to restart your age is tedious and timeconsuming
Sifu shits all over Souls, its far more complex. You have two dodges for certain directional attacks, blocks, counters, more complicated inputs for combos, no co-op, no magic, limited healing, harsher punishments for failure including an actual game over.
Fricking moron. SoulsShit is literally the special olympics for normalgays.
>normalgays love souls games and the like these days
normalgays "love" souls games because they watch several hundred hours worth of gaytube videos explaining the deep lore instead of playing.
And when they do play, they follow a minmaxed guide instead of properly exploring the game
Before FattyVidya and Video Essays existed, normalgays abhored Souls-like games and sobbed endless about how hard games are literal genocide
>several hundred hours worth of gaytube videos explaining the deep lore
It's wild how people like this will hear about one guy that annoys them and then just imagine entire industries surrounding what that person does that don't exist to confirm their biases
you can just summon in souls and they keep making it easier to do so
Souls games aren't actually hard, normalgays only call them so because they're a step beyond AAA handholding garbage and will punish you by actually hitting and killing you if you're blindly mashing buttons and haven't just looked around the level. Hence normalgays "allow" souls to be hard and treat it as the sole arbiter and tentpole of what a "hard" game is despite challenge existing in so many methods that Souls doesn't touch, therefore if something is harder in any way, shape or form then it's "unfair" and "bad game design" and "doesn't respect my time". Peak shitter entitlement.
Souls games are only as hard as you make them. You can trivialize all of them by grinding, summoning or using magic.
For me the only flaws are that the story is generic shit, the last boss is a free win if you played the game well, and you are punished with playing the young version of the protag, which looks kinda dumb, if you play well.
Level creator would be great. Same for Midnight Fight Express.
It's really light on content
Literally what.
can i play it with an arcade stick or are analog inputs necessary?
t. fighting games player
I don’t know much about that kind of stuff but these are the controls. If you only have one stick, I’m not sure how you’d be able to control the camera? Which may frick with your fights
Actually hard and deep combat system unlike "Le Hard hehe" Dark Souls/Elden Ring
Kino game and GOTY 2022
I'm playing on the hardest difficulty and low kicks (the only thing you can't dodge semi-automatically) are literally impossible to see coming, so you gotta learn every single attack animation of every single enemy. And you can't ever die or you'll be 70yo by the third level and make it impossible to complete
I'm getting filtered
I thought was stupid for the amount of wahmen you beat up in it. truly what kept me from liking it more. its ridiculous really, 3 out 5 npcs will be a lady.
So i get to play a great game AND also beat the frick of a bunch of women?
Man i was on the fence about it but it seems this game does have it all.
Oh so I wasn’t imagining it
>thought I’d been beating up very wimpy looking punk guys in mohawks and wifebeater shirts
>realize their voices sound a bit too high
>stare immediately at boobs
I just finished this and I'm pissed I didn't hear of it from Ganker all this time, had to find it on some other random site list recommendation. I think it has the best and most fun combat system I've ever seen, better than sekiro.
It's definitely the difficulty + age mechanic that discourages people, I was ready to drop it after permadying at the club for the first time because I thought it was too long and impossible to beat without dying constantly. And then you try the level again and it's absurd how much better you get. Basically the age system isn't as punishing as you first think it is, but people won't realise that until they put some time into it. Well, that and epic store.
Have you seen the slop this place likes. Ofc sifu wouldn't be talked about, it takes actual effort to learn
>it takes actual effort to learn
lol
More than the average game, yes.
What a coincidence, the average game also has a shelf life of about a week of discussion
Sifu isn't even as complex as Absolver, not to mention lacking the same long-term draws. You're genuinely moronic if you think people would want to talk about it every day for years
Ganker is full of loser that either don't play games or play garbage then larp as hardcore enthusiasts for "gamer cred".
Watch everytime there's a thread about fighting games and all the homosexuals come out of the woodwork crying about motion inputs.
>fightan shitter
>unprompted seething about his shitty genre
Is there a more iconic duo?
Keep larping like you aren't a filthy casual. Black person probably can't even do a qcf.
>Complains about imaginary people crying about motion inputs
>Is in fact the one pretending motion inputs take effort
every time
Takes enough effort for homosexuals to flood every fighting thread whining about it. In reality you're right, takes very little time investment but larping homosexuals can't be assed and just make excuses and cope (like you).
What does that have to do with SIFU? Are you just trying to prove me right about the unprompted seething?
What unprompted seething? Another anon called out Ganker for liking trash (he's right) and I added on in agreement while providing an example. Are you autistic? Are you unable to follow the flow of a conversation? Genuinely asking.
Maybe you're one of the homosexuals I called out, which is hilarious cause you're self reporting so hard right now.
>What unprompted seething?
These posts
No more (you)s, frick off and shit up threads for your shitty favorite genre instead
Ok so you're autistic, gotcha.
You are literally the one who brought it up
I literally told you they're baby shit, and you're still acting like I said the opposite
It couldn't be more obvious that you are the thing you claim to hate, and are the one seeding these discussions in those threads and pretending you aren't
You're either severely insecure, or one of Ganker's resident schizo autists, or both
Lmao bro
>N-n-no u
Wanna try again? I have 2000 hours across multiple fighters. I'm speaking from experience in what I see in nearly every fighting thread. Cope harder.
>Insecure claims of cred
>No self-awareness
>Can't accurately judge the posts he gets mad at
>Reddit spacing
Man, you're hitting every bingo space
Black person you can't even follow a conversation. Quit embarrassing yourself and go back to jerking off to traps like a good homosexual.
Nice projection, redditor

Trying too hard to fit in are we?

lmao, absolute moron
And still making his schizo motion input obsession a self-fulfilling prophecy
Incredible
>Can't bantz to save his life
I mean, I knew nu Ganker was full of limp dick zoomers but you're really taking the cake here. You're dad didn't beat you enough huh?

Motion inputs will never be difficult, redditor
You need to go back
There were billions of threads when it first came out on Epic, newbie
>age mechanic
I haven’t really followed any discussions for this game until now so I’m surprised the aging is such a turn-off for people. To me it was a different and interesting approach to beat ‘em ups that immediately grabbed my interest. Playing with it feels refreshing, it constantly keeps me on my toes.
I ended up liking it as well, it's just unconventional and given modern game development everyone just assumes it's a cheap way to pad the game. Which it was, partly, but it also encourages perfection which is where a lot of the satisfaction in combat comes from, but the player doesn't know that at first.
There's problems with the implementation
>need to nearly perfect every level or you're just fricked
>need to replay every level dozens of times
>but if you replay a level you can't take the designated shortcuts because that cucks you out of shrines
Nah you can die a bunch, just not in a row cause then your death counter multiplies. It's not that restrictive that you have to "no damage/death" every level. Infact you kind of want to die a bit since some moves and shrine bonuses are locked until you reach a certain age.
it's basically them making limited continues into an in universe mechanic. anyone completely flummoxed by it isn't familiar with arcade beat em ups.
People get an idea into their head of what something is and will deny any possibility of it being anything different no matter how much evidence to the contrary exists because they don't want to be wrong yet don't want to put any actual effort into being right. They especially cannot make any logical connections to things they might enjoy when considering how such a thing is implemented despite this being a basic foundation of critical thinking and literacy, with the irony being this is used daily in other tasks. The final touch is conflating something that may not be for them (even if it is if they would look at it from a different angle) with it being a directly flawed system, disregarding anyone else that might appreciate it for what it is due to putting the thought in, and they are the ones things get gutted to appeal to. This is how videogames are treated now and why they keep getting worse.
I don't have the specs to play it ;_;
It's is permanently on my wishlist with hope for better specs for vidya
Specs? Mine are shit too, I play it fine on my hp laptop but at the lowest resolution settings, graphics still look good to me.
Yeah it was great. A shame it took so long to come out on steam.
>What kept it from reaching overwhelmingly positive reviews?
No wokeshit
No collusion
No gamers in gaming media
it's short as frick
I liked it so much i went for the plat
like people have said, the aging mechanics is just weird, i completely ignored it since i just replayed the stages until i practiced a lot
Give me tips on how to avoid low kicks. I'm this guy
Admittedly without those kicks the game would be way too easy cause dodging is so effortless. Going from trying to block to simply dodging made the game 300% easier, but I get hit by every single fricking kick a boss throws at me
i never played the hardest difficulty, does it change stuff? i dont remember that much low kicks, i do remember a lot of low kick stuff from advanced monks and Kuroki/grandma boss
I think it either makes the move itself faster or gives you less of a warning about it
Low kicks are legit bad design in this game, you just gotta memorize all the combos of the enemies that can do them to know when they're coming. Some low kicks that come at the end of combos are not that hard to dodge if you know they are coming, but some low kick initiators like the ones the dolls can do are unreactable if you're not very fast, it's better to block the first attack of the doll just in case it is the low kick and avoid/parry the subsequent ones.
The bosses are more fair with the low kicks, they're mostly in the middle/end of combos so you can recognise when they're coming, just memorise the 4 combos each boss has.
>you just gotta memorize all the combos of the enemies that can do them
Yeah that's about what I figured
To be honest preparing for low kicks is only useful in the museum boss 1st phase and the final boss because they give easy punish openings if you dodge them. Every other boss is easily doable deathless even if you eat every leg sweep head on. Which boss is giving you trouble?
I haven't played in a few weeks (too many games to play), but the very first one already has a sweep he can randomly start with in the first phase
Yeah you can just block that first attack if you don't know it's coming, and avoid his follow up for a punish. But you can just try to avoid everything and you can just brute force him anyway because he's fragile, even if you get leg swept.
If you wanna learn the combos it's best to categorise them in your head based on the first attack, most of them don't have mixups that will confuse you.
I suppose I should block more
Nobody played it because it was EGS exclusive on PC.
i pirated it, played till i perfected the first level
then had difficulty perfecting the second level. its not bad, but im not in the mood to get beat up and learn boss patterns.
I guess he really did wanna prove my point about unprompted seething, he's been crying about his shitty genre for like 30 posts now after he was the one who brought it up
You could have ignored it, but you didn't :^) struck a nerve eh?
Why are you here
Go home
This place is like going to the zoo, frick off I'm enjoying the exhibit.
For a second I thought the game was called STFU like how they called that game GTFO.
could use more levels, also the inspiration kinda ran out past the art gallery. other than that, fantastic game. 20yo runs were a lot of fun for me.
frick Yang.
>game opening with you playing yang
Pretty kino. Didn’t know anything about the game aside from ‘avenge father’ premise, so while controlling him I kept wondering if he was the father or the father’s killer
I had a lot of fun but I dropped it after the museum because of life stuff and haven't picked it up again.
Anyone else felt like the last level was a dud? That and the tower both pale in comparison to the club and museum.
There's definitely less creativity involved, but I liked the sanctuary, the music was perfect and the serenity a contrast to what a final showdown should be. Tower was kinda dull in comparison.
Tower had a good start with the corporate aesthetic but is otherwise the level I try to get through the fastest on purpose.
I get the last level was kept short to make Yang the focus but it was too much. Could've used more situations to make you look like the invader that you are.
EGS, no real combo freedom that you could get from Meme Hand. But destructable weapons and throwables as quick knockdown tools in the context of Sifu was cool, I wish it had more improvisational weapons like in Kung-fu movies (step ladders, chairs on rollers, trash can lid).
Also if you are shit, the game will take 3-4 hours maybe, if you get gud or even manage a sub 30 run, you'll have a 3, 3 and half hour max game. Sure you could replay for better time, for the feeling and mod support, but for a game made so recently there's a lot to be desired.
I went in expecting God Hand 2
I was extremely disappointed
no one is going to make a third person, tank control based brawler. I'd like someone to do so, but it feels less and less likely unless it's some passion project in the works no one knows about.
surprisingly good facial animations for a game like that
Because it's utter shit
>you have all these cool moves but uh... can't really use more than 10% of them
>dodge dodge dodge
>automatic finisher
>heavy leaping attack to get to the next enemy
>repeat
this game is extremely based and gives me hope for the future of AA gaming
hard mode is hard but kinda wack as they just added more sweeps to enemies and bosses
haven't played a lot of arenas too, but they seem even harder than base game
overall to git gud you have to get in the feel of the game and sorta become the master yourself, kinda like a ninja gaiden deal where you'll get raped of you don't "become" the ninja. except in sifu the flow of the fight is way more smooth and kinda becomes like a zen experience. or that's just me sperging out for this kind of things
