Look up and learn some of the gameplay nuances (not necessary at all, but it would give you good headstart if you're new)
Once you learn how to actually do 20, 30, 40million combos and counting, you will notice that this is genuinely the most fun video game, and you can have a lot of fun in this game in just 10 minutes of playing than in any other game where it usually takes hours to have fun

I think the series took a downfall after the "classic" arcade system died out. Nothing fun about driving the shitty vehicles either. If you just want a big open area to to do lines around, american wasteland (ps3) is better than the thugs
except the only tony hawk without the classic arcade mode was Underground 1 which is just an on-rails adventure game yet remembered fondly as the peak of the series haha

I been playing thug2 for 20 years on and off on keyboard, but started taking the game seriously only 2 years ago - i just noticed your records on the retroachievements site, i could beat them all in one day, not jokign or being negative, because im not even "good" at the game, simply just so you know how very few people use that site
Yeah I know I would just like some motivation to get the scores higher. I mostly use the site to discover games I wouldn't have known before and to find translations for some jap games I wouldn't have been able to narrow down otherwise

We can talk about the mechanics if that makes you feel better anon.
I really like the ability to get off your board, it adds so much potential to your comboing, it is quite easy to quickly get off and back on into a ramp for big air, hop off if you're going to bail, and managing the combo run out balances it out nicely. This game is definitely the sweet spot for me for comboing, in THUG1 it's all about how much you can reset your grind balance with double tap grinds. And they added way too many unnecessary mechanics to THAW, and also ruined the feel of running off your board and jumping. I could do without focus mode though.
I played thps 1+2 recently and it threw me off for a while i couldnt get used to not being able to get off board. but i noticed after a time it has more generous time frame for doing transfer so you can land back into grinds. Its really hard to play these two games constantly without having to "recalibrate" your muscle memory or whatever each time. I like THAW a lot and i agree the physics there are worse, but i really like the parkour mechanics because overall it adds even more to the freedom of expression, if they coould be ported to THUG2 engine it would be amazing
I agree with your sentiment but the actual usability of those mechanics in combos is quite weak in THAW. I felt the level design was a big step down as well, half the story mode levels weren't that good. East L.A. is fantastic though. And the classic levels are solid.
Well yeah I'm not good enough to have any kind of world records I was just trying to encourage anyone that uses it to beat my scores so I can grind some more and get better. It says 2,137 have played it with RA and I'm sure some of them are here.

not to be a farthuffer but its truly incredible how few games do anything actually new in a medium where you can do anything. you could ask a 3 year old to tell you a story, and theyll give you an idea that is more mechanically interesting than most video games today.

You're not supposed to play it for the story it's all about the amount of content and levels. Just skip the cutscenes if they're that bad. There's only like 15 minutes of them total
I played thps1 the most on the N64 growing up. I did every challenge on every map with every character, including dick. I think if I were to get into high score combos I would do the 1 + 2 remakes. it's really cool going through the maps I know like the back of my hand with manuals and transfers and everything. I 100%ed the first half of that remake just to get bored with the thps2 half after 2 levels
i liked thug and 4 better. the only thing i didnt like about this game was they went more arcadey with the graphics. but nothing was better than renting a tony hawk game from block buster on a friday night and beating it during the weekend

THUG2 killed the franchise. It over relied on Jackass tier bullshit at time where Jackass had already outstayed it's welcome. It was an ugly depressing game.
The game is only good in the context of 2024 games. But 20 years ago the game stunk, and still stinks.

Bam was as much of a "professional" skater as you could be. Shoe deals, board deals, you name it, all at an incredibly young age, and well before Jackass even began. He wasn't the pranks guy until he got his own mtv show after jackass ended.
