Halo only brought regenerative health/armor which most popular games don't even use anymore.
Look at all the popular fps games, they all have health/armor pickups again and have been for some time now.
Don't get me wrong, Halo 1-ODST were great.

They were the ones that enabled and entrenched all the shitty business practices they complain about but somehow they pretend that all that MTX stuff didn't exist back then.
I think a lot of people (myself included) prefer Halo 3 because it wasn't playable on PC until the MCC released. Everyone was coasting on the fumes of nostalgia. Forge and the 360's multiplayer suite were also huge improvements: You could spend hours dicking around with friends in a shared online space, or you could get sweaty, or you could hunt for cheevos in the campaign together.
For me, it was moving to another state one summer and spending 100s of hours playing with my israeli ex-girlfriend and co. It kept me from loneliness.

Arena shooters were popular for a super brief window and it was mostly just Unreal Tournament and Quake 3. People contrast them with Halo mianly because Halo had quite a bit in common with those games, but it is significantly slower.
And yet, that's kind of the problem with arena shooters, the gameplay is way too fast and competitive. Counter Strike was always more popular because it's less intensive. Same thing happened with MOBAs and RTS, one lets you mentally rest while the other melts your brain.

I actually quite liked Halo CE. But it wasn't the first FPS I played nor the first science fiction story I experienced, so I didn't developed an unreasonable attachment to it. Meanwhile I am seeing all these zoomers who grew up with Halo having to suffer constantly because they cannot let go.
The only issue I take with first 3 Halo games is the slow moving speed of Master Chief, made my experience playing 3 in the collection somewhat tiresome. Liked Reach better, as it made better usage of its levels and had the best setpieces, though Halo 2 still has the strongest narratives.
I grew up on old school shooters and Halo was a game I only played at my friend's, since I didn't have an Xbox. But "le zoomer" is not an argument, what does slow movement contribute to the overall gameplay? If you can't sprint like in Reach, at least make him move a little bit faster. Most of the times after I've cleaned areas, I would just walk slowly over huge terrains and it was annoying. I wouldn't take in the atmosphere, the world or the level design, I would just think "why do you move so fricking slow, MC, you're a supersoldier!".
Halo is not the kind of game for slow walking speed honestly.
Nobody has an issue with Metroid Prime being slow since it's a very different game. Halo has no excuse for being slow other than catering to the casual audience

Changes like that I wasn't a fan of, but I really enjoyed the main campaign and regret not having friends to do co-op with since that seems fun. I beat it one the second hardest difficulty and loved how they designed the epilogue, it was a nice touch and thematically apt.

I get that people still like Reach but this opinion is genuinely baffling to me
Reach's campaign had fricking awful setpieces, it was mostly an exercise in wienerteasing. Tip of the Spear has this giant mechanized battle that you don't get to participate in at all, Long Night of Solace is barebones as shit and doesn't take advantage of the shitshow that was the space battle over Reach in lore at all, the only thing that comes close to actually following through on its promise is New Alexandria and even then it could have been done better. And let's not forget the fact that the game teases Scarabs throughout the campaign and the only time you encounter them in gameplay, you are meant to run away from them and they're not even fricking coded properly. Seriously, Reach's campaign aged like milk.

Arena shooters were popular for a super brief window and it was mostly just Unreal Tournament and Quake 3. People contrast them with Halo mianly because Halo had quite a bit in common with those games, but it is significantly slower.
And yet, that's kind of the problem with arena shooters, the gameplay is way too fast and competitive. Counter Strike was always more popular because it's less intensive. Same thing happened with MOBAs and RTS, one lets you mentally rest while the other melts your brain.
Quake is the primordial boomer shooter. Doom is technically the first, but it wasn't until Quake that the fundamentals were fully established.

The only issue I take with first 3 Halo games is the slow moving speed of Master Chief, made my experience playing 3 in the collection somewhat tiresome. Liked Reach better, as it made better usage of its levels and had the best setpieces, though Halo 2 still has the strongest narratives.

I grew up on old school shooters and Halo was a game I only played at my friend's, since I didn't have an Xbox. But "le zoomer" is not an argument, what does slow movement contribute to the overall gameplay? If you can't sprint like in Reach, at least make him move a little bit faster. Most of the times after I've cleaned areas, I would just walk slowly over huge terrains and it was annoying. I wouldn't take in the atmosphere, the world or the level design, I would just think "why do you move so fricking slow, MC, you're a supersoldier!".

Changes like that I wasn't a fan of, but I really enjoyed the main campaign and regret not having friends to do co-op with since that seems fun. I beat it one the second hardest difficulty and loved how they designed the epilogue, it was a nice touch and thematically apt.

Reach's campaign had fricking awful setpieces, it was mostly an exercise in wienerteasing. Tip of the Spear has this giant mechanized battle that you don't get to participate in at all, Long Night of Solace is barebones as shit and doesn't take advantage of the shitshow that was the space battle over Reach in lore at all, the only thing that comes close to actually following through on its promise is New Alexandria and even then it could have been done better. And let's not forget the fact that the game teases Scarabs throughout the campaign and the only time you encounter them in gameplay, you are meant to run away from them and they're not even fricking coded properly. Seriously, Reach's campaign aged like milk.
am i missing something with halo 2? I loved halo 1 but halo 2 was just not fun, the enemy AI was dumbed down, the levels were more cramped, the difficulty felt like shit. The only things i really liked were some of the new weapons, music, and a few stand out levels like delta halo and metropolis. Everything else i pretty much hated. Having to fight 10 high rank elites on the opening level is one thing, but the one hit kill snipers are total bullshit.
I played through them all a few years ago and felt the opposite
CE is good but it felt very slow paced as they were stretching out a small amount of good ideas whereas 2 felt like they had a surplus of great level ideas and the game was always exiting
3 was mostly forgettable
