>has honest to god dead soldiers right at the beginning of the game who turn into honest to god possessed zombies and try to shoot/kill you
>An entire race is being genocided by demons from another dimension
>The final boss is literally The Thing with all of your strength and powers plus more, you literally can't kill it as long as it's energy exists somewhere in the galaxy
>Everything to do with the sequel to this game as well
I'd argue games like Famicom Detective Club 1 + 2 are darker due to being more serious, story driven games about gruesome murders.
Reading all their journals is great too. And the Luminoth are like the Chozo but weaker and barely more tangible. Good game

Need more variety in your prose, B-, see me after4 class
>Darkest
Only like the first 10 minutes. Once you learn the reason the feds died and get some context from U-Mos it becomes pretty standard Meatrid stuff.
If you think about it, that scene where the GF troopers get swarmed early in the game and it's viewed through the computer is reminiscent of the flood scene from Halo CE
Don't forget the christian symbolism this game has
>hear next place I have to visit is called sanctuary fortress
>thinking that it’s gonna be some stoney, run down ruins
>it’s a giant techno fort physical manifestations of viruses and other data constructs walking around
Gamecube peaked with this area
Yeah, the matte black and greys contrasting with the neon colors makes the games stand out and look good to this day
That place was so cool. I liked that the skybox texture, as low res as it was, was still detailed enough to give the impression that the Luminoth tech city stretched out for miles.
I wish the gamecube could've handled the sense of scale better to further visually emphasize just how much the Luminoth had their asses kicked.
Prime 1 & 2 are easily the best Nintendo games
They were the last time Nintendo was ambitious and trying to compete with the other big names of the industry. They're completely complacent nowadays.
>They were the last time Nintendo was ambitious and trying to compete with the other big names of the industry
so he says, 5 years after nintendo dropped one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time and one that influenced practically every open-world game going forward, and 8 months before nintendo drops its long-awaited sequel
>take five years to make a game
>take five more years to make a sequel
Am I supposed to be impressed? Five years was the duration of the entire Metroid golden age.
FOR FRICK SAKES
WHAT GAME DID IT FRICKING INFLUENCE YOU FREAK
As much as I can hope, I just don't know how they'll make MP4 stand up to these two.
>Boost Guardian
if you didn't beat it in the varia suit then you didn't beat the game
It's not hard but I legit thought the grapple guardian was fricking glitched. I still don't know If I killed it the right way.
I think what confuses a lot of people with him is the fact that he needs to maintain an arbitrary minimum distance from the pylons in the room, otherwise he just awkwardly headbutts in their direction and nothing happens, which was probably designed to discourage camping one side of his fight room. I've always considered Grapple Guardian one of the biggest offenders of the "gnarly design, pushover fight" issue.
Legit teased us with a more nightmarish scenario with those mature Grenchler corpses in the starting zone and promptly tossed the idea aside.
Honestly one of my favorite bosses in the trilogy. His is a fast-paced and actually challenging fight that always invokes a sense of fear in me no matter how many playthroughs I've completed.
People always cite this as a sticking point but even on hard mode the broken pillars give you a shitton of health IIRC.
>hard mode
try the original version, boost guardian is on turbo hard mode the entire time
This. People who only played it via the Trilogy have no idea how frustrating it was in the original game.
Fire Emblem games are the darkest Nintendo games outside of horror franchises
Metroid threadly reminder that Fusion and Echoes are the peak of Metroid.
"Nintendo" game. Retro studios is American anon, sure Nintendo has to approve everything, but they made almost everything.
Go look intro what Metroid Prime was before it became a metroid game
this game has some of the best boss battles in gaming
pseuds can seethe as much as they want, but that includes the spider guardian as well
Idk man MM was pretty dark
>Older sister gets younger sister drunk to lessen the impact of the fricking world ending
I played this when I was like 11 with a group of three friends for an entire summer and it still creeps me out to this day, was the wild halcion days of caffeinated youth with tiny crt tvs all crammed into one room, one for each console and one for tv. still had trouble beating this fricking thing after a full summer
>has honest to god dead soldiers right at the beginning of the game
the title screen of super metroid had this every time you turned on the game but with scientists, and with blood too
And BSL (No blood but the 'puter confirms the death of the entire crew early on). It's pretty much a thing at this point.
Still waiting for the switch ports
Metroid Fusion is unironically darker than Prime 2. Nobody in the station actually survives, and you encounter everyone's zombies' both the humans and creatures. Did The Thing enemy before Prime 2 and in a scarier way with SA-X
Yeah I think that aspect gets overlooked with Fusion. Every time I see it discussed it's just Metroid purists complaining about how it's fairly linear. There is a lot to love about Fusion and that's an aspect I love about it
Dark Samus seems to be a red herring though. I'm sure I'm just a dipshit and everyone on Earth figured out what it was before the reveal but for the longest time (Well until the pirate logs state it came before Samus did) it just comes off as the Ing version of Samus befitting the mirror universe of Light and Dark Aether.
Pretty funny/ sad that as a dumb kid I was playing games like Metroid Prime 2, GTA:SA, Halo and assuming things would just continue to get better.
That was the peak
>spider guardian
>alpha blogg
>alpha blogg
>you need to stand still while the giant shark is approaching you with its monstruous jaws wide open to get a chance to hurt him
This boss fight almost gave me a heart attack as a kid
