It does not persist and become my actual job, I'm not going to suck dick behind the grocery store just because my static link to a monkey JPEG depreciated in value and now I can't play the game I like or afford food that isn't semen.

They have to have a server generate hashes for it presumably, or I guess farm out the mining to the end users computer. It's all speculative in the end, may as well be buying dutch flowers or something.

Instead this is the future you chose.

This was a fork in the road that we took about 12-22 years ago.

For those two things to be true the grind to even get to the point you could kill this frost giant must mean only the biggest whales in existence could entertain even trying this. There would have to be insane penalties like full character death/equipment loss, or you can only try once a year or something, otherwise there would be way, way more than 4 of these things at this point.

Or, and this is the more likely solution.
The frost giant is a unique spawn that only spawns once a week on a single server and once killed does not appear for another week on another server. He can only ever be killed once per week, and has a 5% drop rate. He's died dozens of times at this point, but because it's a 5% drop rate, and because he can only be killed once per week, that 5% is still very small and the 4 that exist are still incredibly rare.

Then again the OP is clearly someone that doesn't play video games and only knows about video games by what others have told him and is letting his imagination take the wheel. But still, the 5% / 4 in existence isn't the biggest moron moment in the post, not by a long shot.

It's not strange at all unless you are completely clueless about the crypto / nft markets around that time this is not a bad thing, everyone who is "clued in" likely has undiagnosed mental illness, myself included.

I thought about doing the same thing by having a "group server inventory" like having a Runescape private server using Fishing and Cooking to make food for an Ark:Survival Evolved to get meat for taming dinos and having ore transfer between Minecraft <-> RS <-> Ark and being able to transfer weapons between Project Zomboid and Ark but I don't have any friends to justify making the system.
It's easy though, just mod a way to delete the items in one game and send a command through console and increase a currency on the server to update a different value in a different save file in another game.

you can kind of do something similar (but much more devilish) by sending small amounts of ETH that has been through tornadocash to a wallet which will effectively insta-ban them from a lot of financial services and likely will put their wallets on gov watchlists

Kinda bold to assume that the devs for all those games would allow something, be it currency, materials or whatever the frick, that could be used in different games that aren't their own.

there is no way to prevent it from happening, assuming that those things are NFTs
the NFT isn't some item within a game, it's a line of code attached to you that the game reads and translates as "item" based on the game's code. different games can have different translations of the same line of code, there is no legal / mechanical function that prevents this.

Huh? That sounds pretty simple. You either need a server to validate or you can just have a special save file that both mod front-ends can read and write to.
