This is the most fun I've had with a JRPG combat system in a while.
How did this not spawn any imitators? It's fast paced, positioning matters, battles don't drag out. I just beat Ancient China and I know that's one of the more combat focused ones, but I fricking love it.

>Switch exclusive
Onto the raping bench she goes!
Do anti-switch gays really have this mindset? It's not as if the game will be exclusive forever, Octopath is in the same situation Live A Live is in right now, just be patient.
I'm not sure if it will go to PC. Nintendo published it but I don't know if Square Enix owns it to put it on Steam.
is the original with fan translation worth playing? I've heard it was kinda shit
Its better than the modern "translation"
Just buy this version or emulate on your preffered Switch emulator.
doesnt it suck to emulate right now?
I get 30 fps consistently and I am not supporting censorship, so it seems fine.
the only thing the original game has over the remake is parts of the translation but if you're not a mega autist none of these things have a huge impact except for the end of pogo's chapter and everything else is a huge improvement
Yep, just let them make small changes that change the tone of characters. And a few more. And a few more. Nothing to see here. Don't get too worked up about it. Just let it happen.
>the only thing the original game has over the remake is parts of the translation
or you know, not looking like eye cancer
Holy shittaste
Older 2dhd games had fricking terrible filters
But LaL is amazing
The problem with the fan translation and the Japanese original is that you can't tell who is talking, the dialogue boxes do not have names. The remake fixes this.
Square games of the time, including Final Fantasy were all about having great ideas for battle mechanics and systems, and then putting them inside easy linear games where you really don't have to master those systems
Dnyone know what the best emulator for Live A Live remake is? And how well does it play, would you reccomend emulating it?
The animations in combat are way too slow, but the system itself is very good.
Also the final chapter is pretty mediocre, like they ran out of budget.
i started akira's chapter and i have no idea what the frick is going on
>reading people's minds
>hanging out in a bathroom waiting for one of the kids to bring me stuff like taeko's panties (yea yea "censored")
>read the doctor's mind while he's taking a shit on the toilet
>turtle becomes liquefied and becomes a robot
I'm unsure if this was even worth it but goddamn it, I did it. Took me four kills before the fricker would drop the bottle.
what was your strat?
Load up Pogo with Special Attack boosting stuff and spam Poke Bind. If Poke Bind ever decides to hit and stick paralysis, follow up with Sleep Trick and hope it sticks sleep so Pogo can Poke Bind again.
Gori's on fire cleanup duty with Poop Toss and uses the Fertility Idol for stat boosts if there's ever an opening.
can you still access the high or low minigame for crafting materials after getting kicked out of the village or do you just have to grind on mobs?
I think the minigame is only accessible before you get kicked out, but I admit I never bothered to go back and check.
Not that anon, but I got the Cola Bottle after about 10 tries at level 16. Right about that level Pogo learns Big Bang Boom which hits 7 times and easily does almost 600 damage if it all hits.
I started the battles by immediately using the Fertility Charm with Pogo to boost stats (it's a craftable item that I made by accident), and then having Gori throw poop to set up poison tiles.
The second the mammoth starts moving towards you, start spamming Poke Bind until it stuns. If it stuns, you can get a guaranteed near 700ish damage via Pogo's Big Bang Boom + Gori's Chest Drum (whatever it was called).
Just know that after they both attack once the mammoth will likely no longer be paralyzed so you'll have to start spamming Poke Bind again.
Besides that, just spam heals with the Fertility Charm/Huge Haunch of Meat with Gori and/or use the poop throw to immediately remove any lava tiles the mammoth may be standing on. Honestly, it's not that bad of a fight once you get this down to a T.
Yeah, the combat was VERY good when the game first released, lots of depth despite being easy overall, but there's really no other games like it. Well except Touhou a Live.
WTF are those stats? Did the remake change the battle mechanics? I remember the original game had Power, Speed, Vitality, and IQ. Way more soulful than generic 'physical attack', 'physical defense', etc
>forgot to get the Cola Bottle
>don't want to do Prehistory again
Live and learn, I suppose.
you can resume the chapter immediately just before the final boss
I wasn't aware that that's how the resume function worked for Chapter Clear data, that's interesting. I'm already neck deep in "The Domain of Hate" which is a fun name for the final chapter, so it is pointless. Next run, for sure. I didn't beat the Edo Japan superbosses either, accidentally rushed through that chapter in general.
i should clarify at least i think that's how it works
it might work based off your last save, so if you saved just before the final boss it would put you there
Which apprentice should I choose? It's between the purple hat dude and the girl, fat guy is a bit annoying.
Purple hat dude. He's got the best special attack of the three, and the elemental martial arts are better to use.
Girl because she's cute.
Yun and Lei are both great options.
in terms of stats, yun has great stat growths except for his hp which sucks dick and ranged attacks, he becomes a good glass cannon. Meanwhile Lei is fast, has solid hp, and decent stats growths so she's an effective frontliner
Yun has the best stat grows and s. attack
he is the best glass cannon. Lei is just above average where other teamates can take better roles as frontliners. Pick Yun
Wait.... You can influence who lives or dies? I imagine it's who you trained the most or?
Yep. Focus on one person, trying to train them all equally is useless.
correct. just spam train one single student, aka Yun
The girl. She has a significant bulk advantage over Yun, and a full-screen attack that makes randoms in the final chapter a breeze
>he didn't pick Yun
Ancient China is my favorite one too, storming the enemy kung fu guys dojo while literally beating up everyone in there is one of the coolest moments of the game. Also I fricking love how the megalomania kicks in bit before the battle starts. I played the original long time ago and having voice acting in the game makes it so much more enjoyable, especially the scifi chapter.
Lets not forget about kicking Ou Di Wan Lee into the motherfricking GONG
>HEAVENLY PEAKS DESCENT
>megalomania starts
bros...how is the soundtrack even better?
Shimomura is a god and has had 20+ years more experience since the OG and more than a SNES soundchip to work with this time. The sky was the limit and we've hit the stars, brother.
Live a live is the perfect example of how that woman is a monster
Her range is insane
I'm surprised just how good the VA work is. The JP cast goes without saying, but I'm doing my first run fully in English mainly because I don't want to get blindsided by EN Akira in the Finale and pretty much everybody sounds exactly like I thought they sounded in my head. My genuinely biggest complaint, aside from them fricking up Pogo's first word, was Oersted having lines during combat in his chapter. I LOVE the combat lines in the game, but Oersted should've been full silent hero, combat and all. That's really the only thing that bothered me. Straybow's VA is fricking phenomenal, sells the olde english shtick well, same with Hash and Uranus. Damn, I really fricking love this game.
I played it on jp from start to finish simply because there is just too many VA's that I like, but I haven't heard any bad things about the English dub, at least not the Seiken 3 levels. That ghost thing is still hilarious.
Honestly I don't mind Oersted having battle lines, since a lot of JRPGs give silent protags those anyways.
That's fair. I'm just spoiled from the OG where when Oersted starts talking, it's the first time you hear ANYTHING from him, which is attributable to no VA. I think it works better that way myself, but that is definite bias. At least he doesn't have a level up quote, that's nice.
Would it have been okay if they limited it to Link style 'Heya!' screams?
Yeah, actually. That's what I was thinking of. A mix of Classic DQ Hero and Link, that's what I always equated him with. Him having a voice isn't really the twist, it's when and how he decides to use it that's important. Hearing him shout "For Lucrece!" while slaughtering their soldiers is a bit silly.
He looks more like Fighter to me.
>go japanese voices
>start with present day
>protagonist shares a VA with Domon Kasshu
>the first master I challenge shares a VA with Master Asia
I'm in love with this game already.
you're gonna love near future.
>Matsu is voiced by Ryoma from Getter Armageddon
Too fricking cool.
and Akria is voiced by Kabuto Kouji from Shin Mazinger
classic Kabuto is Shifu
just played and completed Near Future.
the whole story was well made and the moment the Steel Titan is activated is pure hype. which only gets bigger the moment you finally start controlling it and laying waste to the military. and the fact that Akira is voiced by Shin Koji's VA makes it all the better.
the only bad thing, forgot to mention, is the fact that they didnt explained how Akira survived the ending.
theres no reason to make it a mystery or a 'its not important' moment, by all logic they should have died, the fact they survived with no explanation makes it a copout.
>tfw when OD-10 reveals herself, all loading tips are replaced with her message
it's the little things man
>all the Caveman speak is using the OG SNES sprites
>literally "of a different era"
The amount of love put into this thing is disgusting.
Lots of love except for the troonyslation
>aside from them fricking up Pogo's first word
What did they change it to?
Short answer: they didnt changed it.
Long answer: Pogo says now 'AIEEEEE!' he idea is not that he learned to speak, but that Pogo invented the japanese word for 'Love' which is 'Ai'. and the idiots are making shit up because the game apparently is doing ok.
Ai =/= Aiee
how does it feel to have a reheated turd for brain? surely it must be great to be that stupid.
You got an actual argument that that empty used sandwich bag you call a head?
"I"
it's fricking trash, worst thing about the localization and remake by far. overall a great remake though
They didn't change it, they just didn't dub it.
>Use EN voices
>Switch to JP for China and Japan chapters
Yup, it's gaming time
Frick I just finished that chapter. That moment was so great.
>the lead up to the fight
>HEAVENLY PEAKS DECENT
>*gong*
>The art of the Indominable Fist is lost to time because we murdered the frick out of everyone practicing it
I honestly really like that the Shifu gets pissed enough to get revenge.
Usually the wise master never loses temper, but he just says
>frick it before I die I'm gonna kill the motherfrickers that took my students
Its great, and the indomitable fist practitioners totally deserved it.
Present Day was too short for how based it was. Doing Edo Japan now and I don’t care enough to jump through hoops for a no kill run so I’m just going as few kills as I can and avoiding killing any women
>How did this not spawn any imitators?
the only imitator I am aware of is South Park: Fractured But Whole
I wonder if Trey actually played it (he does know Japanese after all) or if this was just a coincidence.
Just started the ninja level. Should I try to go stealth or should I say frick it and fight in order to get XP and level up?
ultimately the massacre/pacifist paths are just bragging rights since you get better gear later.
so the story doesn't change at all if you do either of those?
You get bit different dialogue at the end and gifted some things if you didn't kill any women.
Different anon, doesn't Massacre lock you into the Shinobi ending? Pacifist and Neutral you can go either way, but I thought in Massacre the Prisoner wants little to do with you.
the chapter ending does change.
So is translation ruined or is it just autism like with Neo Twewy?
Mostly autism. A couple things are overdone, but unless you've memorize some fan translation word for eord people will be fully satisfied with this one and the VA work.
There is some changes in the translation but unless you're super autistic about that sorta thing its probably not gonna bother you. The more relevant changes like not getting panties in Far Future chapter were also changed in jp release too sadly.
>Square-Enix.jpg
The only actual bad thing with the translation is the end of Pogo's chapter with the first word, other than that it's superficial and only gayasses care about it.
there is some shit like literally translating amigo to friend
my biggest gripe is however the fact that Pogo's one line is not fricking love. like man.
I remember somebody pointing out how pogo's chapter is in a way parallel yours typical knight shenanigans. find a girl, she get skidnapped, you go out to save her and beat up some evil dragon (it's a t-rex in this case but you get it).
kinda like oersted, except pogo does not get absolutely fricked and instead gets a happy ending.
so the fact that what is clearly him saying l-love as his first word is important.
especially consider the speeches to oersted are slightly different in the remake. since pogo just learned language, he doesn't really have a speech. like in the original he says his line... but unlike in the original, he then HUGS oersted. which is just... holy frick, really sweet of pogo and not gonna lie, made me shed a tear.
Pogo line is still love...but in Japanese.
I love this game so much, I'm so glad the remake exists. The Megalomania remix man.
Have you heard the Armageddon remix? Dear lord, I thought I loved that song already, but it is fricking magnificent. After finishing all the chapters, I rushed that ending just to hear it and I was far, far from disappointed. Even the ending cinematic itself was great.
Whole soundtrack is just as good as the original. I know what I'm jamming to for the next lifetime.
Couldn't agree more. Along those lines, is there a MEGA for the OST yet? I'd extract it myself if I knew how, alas, I do not.
https://mega.nz/file/c4NwgBoB#IHwMCE1U65g8wp37o3wDyUIdhvz0Lx6floIH_JKofPw
Well finished my first chapter of far future with my bro Cube , near future is next
THE MAN WHO WAS KEKED TO DEATH
It's fine becoming a demon lord is an acceptable form of uncucking.
Oersted unironically did nothing wrong. The Middle Ages is just genuinely full of buttholes and the poor guy just gets swept up in everything
i think the king kind of was at fault for not seeing alethea's relationship with Streibough in hindsight. you shouldn't force someone to marry an outsider if they're bonding with another.
remember that Alicia was tricked by streibough during the time she was in the mountain, and we know Streibough knows illusion magic, so her feelings towards him at that moment might have been fake... but since they dont elaborate on that, i doubt it.
Is there any particular order to play chapters in or is it just do them all to get to the end? Because after i finished the Pogo's chapter i wanted to go to the next chronologically and got sguck in a research whether cowboys or the Tokugawa period would be after china
No order. All the stories are completely separate until the final chapter.
There is no set in stone progression. Though I'd recommend some before others. Example, Modern Day is a bad starter because it basically needs you to have a understanding of the combat before you do anything. Weirdly enough with the token order though, it paints this picture.
>Prehistory
>Distant Future
>Imperial China
>The Wild West
>Present Day
>The Near Future
>Edo Japan
I don't think that's a bad structure at all
The Ninja chapter is really something else, its also potentially the longest if you really get into exploring the castle and try to figure out the pacifist run without a guide.
You can do them in whatever.
Ninja comes after Kung-Fu and before Cowboy.
I fricking love Cavewomen!
>r i wanted to go to the next chronologically and got sguck in a research whether cowboys or the Tokugawa period would be after china
Cowboys literally have fricking revolvers
how does this answer the question
Unless it is at the complete ass end of the Tokugawa period its pretty clear the cowboy one would come after. Wild West was definitely more of the later half of the 1800s
>Sakamoto Ryōma (坂本龍馬, 3 January 1836 – 10 December 1867)
"The period of the Wild West was from 1865 - 1895"
notice how that quote doesn't mention revolvers
>Battle of the Little Bighorn: June 25, 1876
And? You know samurai also took up the gun after the 18th century as well.
Yeah theyre pretty good.
One of the guns is a Colt Peacemaker, which wasn't made until 1872
See these are actually useful answers that aren't just "they have revolvers"
Yeah that's my bad, should have been more specific
Just started the cowboy story, digging it so far.
How long is a chapter?
I kinda only wanna play it for the western chapter.
depends. western chapter is on the shorter side due to its structure. only really ahead of wrestler
>in Japanese
I thought I was playing a translated version.
(also somehow they fricking translated the normal mammoth enemies in pogo's chapter as elephants, even though pretty much every mammoth enemy has mammoth in its name)
Pogo says "Ai", which means "love" in Japanese, SE didn't want to hire an English VA for literally one single line so they peft the Prehistoric chapter woth only japanese voices.
They could've just used one f the ont soaht ey alvie dy had. Theyat poblem wioulkd not have had much ofaidaissue becausrf thif roas a isngle line. Don't yoiuy thin? Instead of maigin it saeiiiii whicvh ids dumb and removg ots ortrtoyhfh.
Anon, are you ok?
Fricking hell I have no idea what happened.
Maybe you had one too many, or maybe not enough?
Each chapter is about 2-3 hours long, and Western is one of the smaller chapters. I think that one is maybe a hour.
I think something is wrong with my copy.
We haven't been calling this game a cult classic for nothing. It's one of the best jrpg of all times. Easily rivaling FF and Chrono Trigger.
I'll be honest, a lot of the SNES games that have reached "cult" status, especially JRPGs, I've found to be kinda flat or boring. Stuff like Treasures of Rudra, Bahamut Lagoon, never clicked for me. That said, Live A Live is really hitting for me.
Yeah you have to be able to separate the lunatic cults from the actual gem cults. Live-a-live is one of a kind. Enjoy it, friend.
Come on, Treasure of the Rudas should be experienced just to see the magic system, that shit is crazy.
treasure of the rudras also has really cool music and spritework. the fact that there are three different plot threads running parallel to each other that occasionally intersect is also really cool. wish the plot/characters were less generic
>Most hyped games of Summer on the Switch
>Both ended up being hated
>Xenoblade 3 leaks show the game is dogshit
>LiveALive ended up being ruined by localization
Yeah, just look at this thread. It is really showing how much everyone hates this game.
>a few scattered lines have crubge translation
>otherwise perfectly serviceable localization
>NO REEE THE GAME IS COMPLETELY RUINED
>a few scattered lines
>perfectly servicable
You already contradicted yourself
>How did this not spawn any imitators?
People always ask this question and the answer is always the same. These games didn't have a western release when they should have in the SNES.
Same with Terranigma. If Terranigma got a western release back then it might not be massive right away, but in the decades following it would rival even Chrono Trigger.
Terranigma did get one.
In Europe
But your argument is dumb anyway, because Japan is where the games get made so it doesn't need to be released in the West for other Japanese devs to see it and copy it
>chrono trigger
>terranigma
>live a live
the holy trinity of "frick the protagonist"
With the internet age, the discussion it would have fostered would rival LttP, Chrono Trigger, FF6, Super Metroid and others. And the US kind of makes discussion of popular topics spread out through the entire world. Japan was and still is too isolationist for that. If these games were released on the US when they should have, who knows what the gaming landscape would be like now. Also FF5 would be a lot more popular than it is today, for years people just saw that game as an oddball and not worth playing compared to 4 and 6.
Europeans didn't play videogames back then (they barely do now but they did even less back then).
If I put the extra coin in the slot in the Oboro chapter before getting the robot I sunk my pacifist run didn't I?
>Akira doesn't want a qt slimegirl little sister
What a gay.
holy frick that near future oepning song
>play caveman chapter first
>mom rises from the grave and walks in during the implied segs
Frick.
I think the necromancy going on is the bigger issue here.
>mom rises from the grave
Do you get anything good for fully beating Captain Square?
Nope, if Kirk is still around you get a praise but that's it.
>the music that plays during the new content in the final chapter is called GIGALOMANIA
Shimomura, you sneaky motherfricker.
if you do it before shit goes down (and thus before you can get the memory card), you get to flex on kirk.
Toby has to make Gigalovania now.
He just has to
No thanks, I like being able to search for the song I actually want
I always forget about Treasure of the Rudras, but frick if it isn't a stellar game.
Its use of leitmotifs for each of the character arcs and themes is really impressive.
I was playing it these days and its pretty good, but I got my copy of LAL last friday
I hope one day this gets a remake, but I wonder if they'd do it justice translation wise and the spell system.
What;s the current translation like?
decent its about as good as live a live snes translation if i remember correctly but its been a long time since i played it.

I wonder if those are a reference to the Magus 3 from FFIV
I went with Yun because he felt more "protagonist", but I imagine the stuff with her after the other tutors get killed would've been touching
He gets easily the longest cutscene if he’s the one who doesn’t die
Yun is so fricking generic by today standards.
Honestly I think you can make a good argument for all three to be the "intended" disciple.
>Hong/Sammo
Highest starting level. If you train all the disciples equally he will be the successor by default because of it
>Yun
Like you said, has the most protagonist feel of the three
>Lei
Easily the most popular one and appears in the trailers more often than the other two. Also has probably the strongest character development of the three.
wait
fricking mizuryu kei draw this
Yeah, so?
I’m doing a Playthrough on my SNES Classic and I chose her as the disciple because she’s hecking cute and seems have that tomboy nature.
Have you guys seen the remake's version Saint Alicia attack? Its down right terrifying.
touhou a live remake when
The dev fricked off after Capcom forced him to shut down Shanghai.EXE after the imbecile opened the equivalent of Japanese Patreon for it.
Wait, that was the same guy? What a legend.
?t=1107
They somehow made the move even scarier compared to the original. Oersted's hate is so powerful, his strongest spell is named after the woman he loved the most and believed in. Imagine her betraying your trust for the man who ruined your life. The hatred is so powerful, the spell even conjures a black hole. No wonder that move nearly kills anyone that isn't Oboromaru
Do you know if Saint Alicia/Alethea scream is different in the Japanese dub?
Yes, they are different. Japanese one is scary as frick.
Is there a video with the scream? Japanese uploaders seem to be very wary about spoilers.
>In the middle of battling Pure Odio
>You suddenly see a black void
>a pair of glowing arms appear, and embrace you, right now you are confused.
>see the owner of those arms, is some sort of goddess thing, a lot of light is starting to gather, you dont know how to interpet that.
>suddenly the goddess turns into a demon skeleton letting out a deafening shout of horror, everything explodes fricking everywhere, thunder and lightning fall from everywhere a dark hole absorbs whatever's left of you,
Good luck having any shred of sanity after fricking that!
Why did they rape the translation though?
there are like four lines total that were "raped". overall the game's translation is fine
>I only raped her 4 times
That's what every rapist says
and a couple of them seem like honest mistakes
Nah. They were just preemptively trying to avoid a controversy. The woman comment would have caused one for sure.,
probably, but the fact they ended that line with "am i right?" makes me think they honestly made a mistake about じゃね and じゃねえ
they definitely avoided the woman part on purpose since there's really no mistaking 女, but there's also some confusing shit in that line
Does Bel still flash you in the remake?
No but instead she drags you into the pile and fricks you. Gori watches
While it kinda sucks, it's understandable considering how much more detailed the sprites are, so it would be hard to keep the game T rated if they kept it the same.
No sadly, she takes Pogo with her behind the thing she hides behind. Still a great remake.
Please do not ruin a comfy thread with localisation bullshit please
there are a few shitty changes and its worth pointing them out but ngl the remake overall is excellent and it is extremely annoying that people are pretending the remake and translation are trash because of a handful of scattered cringe lines
Depending on how they store the script I'm sure a mod will fix it.
This is how every thread is going to go, get used to it and start posting about the game.
Is the Cola Bottle drop from King Mammoth still random or guaranteed in the remake?
from what i've heard it's still random.
have fun unga bungaing the big mammoth back to back to back to back because RNGesus hates (You)
it's still random, I had to kill the king mammoth twice to get it to drop. chance might be slightly higher?
Which disciple you focusing on anons? The bandit lady is based so I'm going for her.
bandit lady has the best personality by far, cool design, and the moves she comes with are actually useful. it's not even a competition tbqh
The fat guy because i like kung fu panda.
>Game about hatred being corruptive and evil throught generations

The battle system isn't bad but it's obnoxiously slow.
>Pick skill
>2 second delay before anything happens
>3 second long charging animation that's the same for every skill
>Actual skill animation for another 4-10 seconds
If they just got rid of the first two points it'd be immensely better, but the fact that they exist makes me wonder if it's to mask some horribly unoptimised skill animation loading.
Stop talking about videogames.
Lets talk about you then. Watcha playin? Watcha watchin? watcha eatin? watcha doin?
I'm only here for coom threads.
>accidentally do too well setting up traps in wild west era and take out every bandit but O.Dio
>get to mess around with Sundown's combat the least out of any protag much to my disappointment
>reach final chapter
Hell fricking yes dude this game is sick. I was also surprised by how much I loved the medieval chapter too, the ye olde english VA was incredibly well done, and going back to a more classic JRPG setup to tie things together after every chapter before it changing up the formula was a good choice.
The only thing I don't like about the final chapter is the random encounters which are FF like. It fits the medieval chapter but it gets kind of annoying as you do the dungeons and have to waddle through tons of random encounters especially since every other chapter shows the enemies and gives you opportunity to evade them.
Nust keep running, even vetter if you have akira with teleport! Nothing bad will happen if you run away too much!
I've played through the original, I know what happens, and you want to teleport to get that fist anyway.
>run away too much
Funny you say that, I ended up there after a single teleport. Wasn't even intentional, just not a fight I could reasonably win. Then boom, into the Trial.
>two martial art masters
>a guy with latent psychic abilities
>a robot from the far distant future
>a ninja seemingly with power over elements
>a caveman from the unga bunga days
>and everybody's favorite is just "the guy who shoots his gun good"
It really speaks to how good the Wild West chapter is when that's the case. Sure, he's also aggravating to recruit, but most won't know that going in.
https://discord.gg/fPQxyyysSp
Sorry but I'm not that cool.
It would be nice if the game actually told you which attacks were capable of interrupting charging skills.
Isn't it just anything that moves/spins the target?
they do- any attack that is described as "disorienting" or pushing/pulling enemies can do it
The game doesn't tell you if a move pushes enemies.
Live A Live, to me, isn't that hard of a game. Why the Cola Bottle?
Better yet. How did the Cola Bottle get there?
Does this game have level scaling for the bosses? I'm doing the Prehistory chapter first (just got kicked out) and it seems like you will get locked out of grinding pretty often. I would've been royally fricked if I didn't grind a bit in the desert first.
A lot of chapters don't even allow grinding or it doesn't even matter. Most chapters that do tend to be fine with just a normal run through with the normal amount of enemies.
no level scaling, but the only times in the game you could possibly need to grind are if you're gonna do the secret bosses in the prehistoric/ninja chapters, a pacifist ninja run, or if you haven't run into enough random encounters in the medieval chapter
Reminder you no longer have to equip stuff to your protag since they automatically give your their stuff if its in the bag when they join you. You can just cola bottle the stupid t-rex to death without fear now.
Beru’s last skill (which you barely even need to grind for now) is pretty much an auto win against the dinosaur anyway
That's interesting. Does that mean it's ideal to skip the traps in the western chapter now?
>King Mammoth's HP regeneration increases based on how many fire tiles are under him when it ticks
>King Mammoth takes 16 damage when poison ticks regardless of how many tiles are under him
Started with Edo Japan and ended up being pretty confused. Since the game hinted that I can do pacifist I tried doing that, but there's no indication if talking to a character will start a fight or lead to dialogue. Should I continue playing this or try a different chapter?
It gets confusing and if you do pacifist run you have to go grind the spirits until you get to a certain level like 7 or 8 unless you want to suffer and pray to RNG. just avoid enemies and save every often.
Hmm, I guess I'll play it as normal for now then. Is there any in game incentive for re-playing the chapter after completion besides "see more stuff"?
Also, some fights don't allow fleeing, like I was surprised by ninja sentai squad and they didn't have a flee option
That's how you know you fricked up is if you can't run from a fight from a human character for a pacifist run.
Oh and I'm also wondering what is the reward for doing pacifist? pls no spoiler if there is one
You get Oboro's strongest weapon from doing full pacifist, and his second-strongest from doing full murder.
there is a TON of secret bonus content in the ninja level and various ways for it to play out, so it is actually kind of a draw. Beyond that, killing 0 human beings gives you a powerful bonus sword in ninja, and there are two bonus bosses that you're only reasonably gonna be able to kill on a murder playthrough that give extremely powerful equipment rewards- a sword(just as strong as the full pacifist sword) and a special accessory. Pacifist has a ton of different dialogue towards the end too
So for now I should do full murder and look for bosses I guess? Are they autistically hidden or fine to find without a guide?
One of the Secret bosses is extremely easy to find, the other is bit trickier but you probably wont need a guide for it.
Heh, the Go ninja pun got a chuckle out of me, also if you go pacifist you gotta collect koban coins, while playing normally try to remember where they are. There is also way to reset the chests and that makes it easier to obtain the coins but you have to loot the chests before resetting them as you can only do the reset once and it does it for all the chests in the castle.
pacifist ninja is incredibly tricky unless you have prior knowledge of the level from a normal completionist run of the level. it can be done though, just save early and often
Doing pacifist requires some really unintuitive shit and you can actually fail the full pacifist run if you don't do everything correctly. Also you can always flee from fights so its not a problem to talk to people, usually.
to add to this, note that killing abominations, demons, ghosts, and machines does not count as killing somebody
here's some pointers you will need if you are planning to do a no-kill run
>you can actually kill animals, monsters, ghosts and machines without penalty, in fact, you need to do so and grind to level 9 at least to be able to beat Ode Iou.
>you can flee out of the majority of fights against the human characters, (the dudes you are not supposed to kill) and many of the fights are triggered only if you speak with the people and even then you can run away from the majority of those, always save before talking with a suspicious person.
>you dont need to focus on rescuing the main prisoner, dude can take care of himself, BUT you will need to rescue the guy called Goemon, and be patient enough to backtrack,
>theres only 6 kobans, and theres one, AND ONLY ONE PLACE where those are needed, if you dont have them on hand, or spend them elsewhere, like, say with some random pot, you will not complete the run, period.
>theres 3 bosses before Ode Iou, but you will only need to take down 1 of them, and that one guy is also connected with a key element that will help you in your run, since these 3 guys are not humans, they do not count as part of the kill count.
i think that should help enough.
So how do we feel about the flowery-as-frick dialogue from the Medieval chapter in the remake? Personally I like it. Oersted's breakdown is a bit over-the-top but it sells it better that he's talking like he's from a Shakespeare play.
Fittingly he got pretty Shakespearean protagonist treatment as well.
>spoiler
That actually explains a lot. The story initially presents itself as a fairly conventional JRPG but plays out like a Shakespearian tragedy. I wonder if that was at all an inspiration when they wrote it.
I feel like there's aspects of oersted's story in all the other chapters. Like how wild west is about a bitter rivalry and prehistory is the young hero saving a princess from a dragon.
I wanna see his breakdown in Japanese bu I can't find a vid of it.
I liked it a lot. Going in I expected it to be grating on the ears like the peasants from Witcher 3 or something, but was pleasantly surprised by how they pulled it off.
All said I feel like there's potential for
>Naught remains. Alone. Utterly alone. Cast out. Unloved. Outside the grace of gods. The Archon's Roost, they call this shrine of death. Yet nowhere do I spy our Lord of Dark. His throne sits empty, wanting for an heir... Did I not do all that was asked? Did I not serve and seek my just reward? And for my deeds, they damn me. Name me demon. And who am I to deny it? Demon, then! Renouncing former ties and titles! And in their place, I claim... The Lord of Dark. Odio!
To be memed to hell.
I hope so, its a god tier speech. I fricking love it when heroes are put through the ringer and break down, only to get back up and go completely nuclear
The old man in china definitely went nuclear. Eradicated a whole fricking martial arts school.
It's a speech you can just SEE an actor on stage storming around while letting it out.
The moment this game got announced the thing I wanted most was for that speech to be done well.
I'm glad it came true.
General consensus is $50 is too much for this game right?
General consensus is you should pirate it.
I think it was worth it but it really depends on you. Some people go $1/hr or some other weird metric. For me I had a good enough time to justify it. Also I guarantee this is going to be one of those games that will be impossible to find physically too down the line.
>impossible to find physical down the line
I'm always worried about that with non Nintendo Switch games.
Alright, time to start Ninja.
Gonna try again for 100 kills. Failed it by 2 missed kills last time I tried in the original.
>ninja that's about to go to the attic asks for password
>try to just pick the obviously wrong answers of 'Potato' and 'Near'
>he gives some cheeky remark to them and asks again
>have to get the changeable password wrong to fight him
Don't remember that being a thing in the original. Cheeky. Makes it so even an all-kill run requires to remember the passwords.
>had to restart cause I fricked up and made some npcs despawn by viewing a scene
Thank god for cutscene skipping.
ironically, no kill runs don't require you to remember shit
I just can't play JRPGs unless you're fighting The Demiurge at the end. Does Life Alive have that?
Yeah kind of but it's more like Satan
The engrish VA is soulful as frick. so much better than the typical anime cast
I think Oboro's VA is the ONLY one I've even heard of.
Frick. This has been in my head all day,
Has anyone played the board game?
No because it's japanese exclusive
Frick you square I'd get this in a heartbeat
>No Cube figure
Sad.
>No Lei Onahole
Double sad
I find it surprising that there is no merchandise for Cube or Akira, the two most popular characters in Japan.
Unfortunately I just assume that most board games based on game IPs are bad but who knows.
Thoughts on the remixed music?
For me the, with the battle themes:
>better than the original
Difficult fight
The wilds
>on par with the original
War in China
>worse than the original
Psycho killing
Kiss of jealousy
Did they ever talk about doing a sequel to this game back then?
Yes it's called Chrono Trigger
No kidding? I didn't know it had the same director.
But I thought it was called Octopath Traveler
>A JRPG from 1994 feels more inventive and unique than nearly any released today.
I hate how this genre peaked during the SNES/PS1 days.
Octopath has some loose structural similarities but overall its more like a hybrid between Live A Live and a SaGa game (and worse than either).
Also, Live A Live made the party feel more like a party over the course of one chapter than Octopath did over an entire game.
Is octopath really that bad? I've been kinda wanting to get it for a while.
Octopath's localisation makes this game look like the height of faithfulness.
Octopath has decent gameplay, and each individual story isn't bad (some are better than others, but I wouldn't say any are AWFUL), and each protagonist is charming enough, but they utter lack of any real crossover and the finale just being kinda silently resolved in a side-quest leaves a bad taste.
Funny how LAL credits evoke exactly what OT was missing: the party feeling like a party?
Also the finale (and only the finale) requires you to use all eight characters.
Lots of people that got that far realized they'd have to grind up another 3-4 characters and just dropped then.
Octopath is the best you'll get out of a modern JRPG
It's not the worst game ever made, but its a solidly mediocre title that was propped up by looking pretty and people being desperate for a "real" JRPG in a world where nearly everything is a shitty real time action combat system.
I tried the demo and it was just overstuffed with time time consuming dialogue that didn't add anything. I did accidentally buy it once thinking it was Triangle Strategy and realized my mistake when I got home and didn't even play it, just went straight to the store to return it.
>overstuffed with time time consuming dialogue that didn't add anything
are you sure you're not getting the two mixed up again? triangle strategy is way worse about this.
I haven't tried TS yet so that's good to know. I usually only buy Switch games from a small game store in town and their Switch selection is only used games so there's not much choice.
Well, I won't say TS's story is bad, but fricking lord does it take a while to get going.
Yes it's called Touhou A Live
Unironically it actually is
Yes it's called Octopath Traveler. It wasn't as good though.
I was scared they were going to frick this battle background with the 3d but it's actually even better now. The sky, the demon, the corpses, everything's so damn cool.
I'm honestly surprised at how hard they went with Illusion. It's not even the final phase, yet it sounds so good.
Wasn't Octopath getting a sequel?
it got a mobage sequel
Prequel.
Your bets for the next 2.5 HD remake?
I can see Terranigma showing up.
Dragon Quest 3 is next.
>Lufia 2
please god yes
Bahamut Lagoon is unironically too controversial, even Japan is broken base over it between the degenerates and the vanillagays.
It would be pretty funny though, maybe they add a proper romance route for Sendak, but leave everything else unchanged for massive butthurt and controversy points. Too bad the game is not really that good gameplay wise.
Speaking of Bahamut Lagoon, what's the deal with the various translations? I heard someone saying that the recently released one was bad but didn't get to ask why.
Well we already know it'll be DQ3.
I want DQ5.
I'd love Lufia 2. But the remake it got like 12 years ago sadly killed the franchise. It flopped hard as well on both sides on the globe and I'm not sure being more faithful to the original would have made it sell better.
>Bahamut Lagoon
Totally irrelevant but can I just say that I love Squaresoft Super Famicom boxes? The white boxes just look nice.
maybe Evermore or Terranigma.
Luifa 2 has a questionable DS remake
and apparently BL has iusses
I've beaten Evermore and I don't think its that good of a game, I do like how the dog changes between the eras though. I never made it far in Terranigma and frankly I don't even remember why I stopped, this was like 10 years ago. Why is Terranigma considered so good?
>I never made it far in Terranigma and frankly I don't even remember why I stopped
Bloody Mary
Terranigma has a compelling story and in my opinion one of the best soundtracks on the SNES. The gameplay is pretty simplistic and the levelling is fricked, though. Also the old translation was really rough.
After DQ3?
Maybe another of the Quintet games unless they continue the artstyle from the ActRaiser remake. I don't think they have the balls to do Chrono Trigger.
Really another DQ game (probably 5) seems most likely.
Absolute Madmen answer: The 7th Saga
>Really another DQ game (probably 5) seems most likely.
Horii said they want to do the full trilogy. I'd imagine they'd bundle 1 and 2 though. Unless by some crazy surprise we get all 3 at once.
Oh I'm sure they'll do basically all of the NES/SNES DQ's eventually it's just a matter of when.
DQ5 is popular enough I could see them jumping the gun and doing DQ 1/2 at the same time as a side project.
1 is so short I honestly expect it to just be snuck into DQ3 HD-2D as an unlockable or something.
>Maybe another of the Quintet games
A Robotrek remake would be great. Hell, they'd be able to cut down costs at this point by reusing environment assets from Live A Live.
>That sploiler
Only if they keep the bugged difficulty, its really the only way to play that beast of a RNG shitfest.
Was it bugged? I thought they intentionally fricked with it for the US release.
Removing the stat bonuses per level was intentional to make the game harder. Having hostile NPCs retain them wasn't.
Oh, that. I wouldn't say that bug strictly makes the game harder. You can make it work for you by letting NPCs level up outside of your party before recruiting them, because their growths won't be fricked until they're with you.
>Valsu gets a rune
You're fricked.
Loved this game, was a hell of a tough one to beat.
Lufia 2 already had its "remake" as asinine as it was. I'd rather it gets a sequel that ties up everything considering Arek and the Dual Blade keep fricking things up. That or a prequel about how the Sinistrals went bad.
I dont think they will remake lufia again after the shitshow that was the ds one. I also dont think they have the balls to touch the quintet games.
>I also dont think they have the balls to touch the quintet games.
SE did remake Actraiser which was an Quintet game.
>Lufia 2
If it stays true to the original combat from the SNES game instead of the action combat in the DS remake.
>Bahamut Lagoon
Easy since we never got Trials of Mana and Live A Live in the west until the remakes. A BL remake easily guarantees a west release.
>Secret of Evermore
Give it the Trials of Mana remake treatment.
>Soul Blazer trilogy including Terranigma
Gimme a compilation containing remakes of Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, and Terranigma. I don't care if they do the remakes in the 2.5 HD engine like OT and LAL remake, or full 3D like Trials of Mana remake.
Hopefully Evermore and Evermore 2 announcement.
I feel like it's gonna be something unexpected like mario rpg or ff tactics
Didn't something about Tactics Ogre get leaked recently?
Yes. By Sony.
>vibration function required
What did they mean by this?
I have a feeling it won't be 2DHD. There's something about sony that they're avoiding when it comes to these games.
While I do think the chances of Mario RPG are actually better than most give credit for, I'm not sure the 2D HD approach would actually look that great with Mario RPG's isometricness and early 3D art style.
Really I think Nintendo themselves are the biggest roadblock at this point to such an idea though.
Yeah, I'm sure Nintendo probably has cold feet over doing any more remakes after the M&L remakes bombed. Would be nice to see though.
>Really I think Nintendo themselves are the biggest roadblock at this point to such an idea though.
It's more square than anything, Nintendo isn't one to turn their noses up at remakes, especially ones of old games that haven't been released.
Sakaguchi already leaked how matsuno was working on some projects this year
The fact of both tactics ogree and ff tactics being remaster/remake confirmed already how they are probably related
>mario rpg
Stop it. My heart can only want for something for so long.
DO IT, SQUEENIX
FRICKING DO IT
DO
IIIIIIIIIIIIIT
I keep forgetting that one of the protagonist's stories is just "Guy can't stop body-hopping please help". Hilarious.
>Sion's friends that die at the start of his chapter become Surlent's spare bodies in his chapter
The game is absolutely based in how it interconnects the character stories
Amazing ost, and the Mantra system is fantastic if you use it as intended and don't just google the best spells like a gaylord
Legitimate 10/10 RPG that needs more recognition as one of Square's finest works
I hate the magic system
It's pretty effective at making magic feel like an arcane mystery that you actually have to study to get better at.
Either this, Terranigma, or Mystic Ark are the ones I want the most.
Rudra's is ok, amazing OST by the same guy who did mystic quest. Sion and Surlent's stories are fantastic, Dune's story is "ok" Riza's story is so god damn painfully boring though. Id still buy it and replay it
Am I the only one who loved the original Lufia as much as II ?, I´d love a remake of that one as well, I thought it was a much better Dragon Quest II.
Akira's chapter gives me such Arc the Lad 2 vibes
I wish that series didn't crash harder into the ground than even star ocean
I think it would depend more of which of these games still has a producer or director in square enix like live a live or the saga and mana series
They dont do this kind of project without some key people of the original game
Even Chrono cross had to call back some guys who worked on the original game just for a remaster, so this is true
Burning Heroes BABY¡¡¡
https://snesrpggaming.weebly.com/burning-heroes.html
Please God Bahamut Lagoon first.
Bahamut Lagoon would cause so much butthurt from self insert gays. I really love the cast in that game, Madelite is based
I don't care about gays, so why would I care about Bahamut Lagoon gays? Game was great and I held down the fast forward emulator button on ZSNES to get back to the gameplay faster.
I wouldn't care about them either. I legitimately enjoyed the game a lot, and thought the MC+Pogo had no fricking chemistry anyway so the NTR meant absolutely nothing
*Yoyo not Pogo kek. Still have Live-A-Live brain right now since im playing prehistoric chapter `
I beat it and the only thing I remember was the beginning by the dragon thing reminded me of ff6 and I saw yoyo like terra. then I fast forwarded through all of the story.
The main story is nothing to write home about at all. I do like the stupid little side stories the crew seems to have between chapters like Bikkebikke's business exploits, the relationship between Barclay and one of the mages, etc. Those felt fun
>and thought the MC+Pogo had no fricking chemistry anyway so the NTR meant absolutely nothing
there was NTR? did i miss it wtf
Live a Live is good, but is bahamut lagoon?
I feel like most of the discourse about the game is the ntr shit
I never saw someone talking about the narrative or gameplay of it
discourse for most games is shit
I know but i always heard people talking about LaL in a lot of ways instead of a character having the cuck arc
Which doesnt happens with bahamut lagoon
Because, while on LAL is just a meme, in Bahamut Lagoon is completely played straight from start to finish. Hell, it's so brutal that someone wrote a whole page about it.
https://ontlogy.wordpress.com/2020/07/18/a-look-at-bahamut-lagoon-square-enixs-greatest-ntr-masterpiece/
>Because, while on LAL is just a meme, in Bahamut Lagoon is completely played straight from start to finish. Hell, it's so brutal that someone wrote a whole page about it.
I think oersted's arc is really well done in a way that only someone who didnt play would think it is bad
But everything i see about bahamut lagoon you just know how those dudes had fun shitting on the mc's head
It is crazy
Actually the writer of Bahamut Lagoon wasn't "having fun", he admitted that when he wrote it he was extremely bitter iver a bad breakup.
I know, he made ff13
It is funny to thing how the lightining guy would writte scenes about your love interest moaning in her room so loud during sex with the bad guy that everyone would hear outside
I unironically prefer the subversion, because it was hilarious. Bahamut Lagoon wouldn't even be remembered if not for it honestly
I totally get it and kinda agree with you because the game became famous for it
But the point is how maybe it just isnt enough to receive a remake on the level of LaL, would be better to work on other projects
But they should at least port it to new consoles/pc
>magic spells affecting the terrain
Kinda nice to know similar games to Golden Sun but I don't want to play ntr games
The main reason is because the cuck arc is a hell of a lot more than a love interest being stolen, it is the complete upheaval and breaking point of what was by all accounts a good, virtuous honorable man that wanted to do nothing but good in the world. The true breaking point that really made him turn is back on the entire universe and made him say "FRICK this" to the point where he is willing to completely blow it up if he is losing
>The main reason is because the cuck arc is a hell of a lot more than a love interest being stolen, it is the complete upheaval and breaking point of what was by all accounts a good, virtuous honorable man that wanted to do nothing but good in the world.
Completely agree, oersted's chapter is so fricking good
Him breaking at the end makes sense
If you ever played Devil Survivor, that is probably the best way to describe the gameplay. It is fun fricking around and raising dragons, but there isn't really anything remotely challenging until the end game. I think it is an interesting and fun game worth playing still, and it is pretty charming. The NTR shit doesn't matter because the MC feels like a fricking non character for 90% of the game
>the MC feels like a fricking non character for 90% of the game
Sounds perfect for the self-insertkeks with the cuckold fetish
The problem is that the MC is specifically designed to be a self insert.
>If you ever played Devil Survivor, that is probably the best way to describe the gameplay. It is fun fricking around and raising dragons, but there isn't really anything remotely challenging until the end game.
I see
I was talking mostly because square will make remakes for games they think it is worth it
It is not about being a classic, it needs to be a really good, this is why i wonder if they would choose bahamut lagoon of all possible titles
Bahamut Lagoon's greatest quality is in its spritework. It already looks fantastic, and to be honest there's not much to the game beyond that. A remake wouldn't do much for it.
Of these four, Terranigma is probably the most likely. It's held in similar regard to Live A Live as a hidden gem that was never released in the US, and unlike LAL they wouldn't have to localize it from scratch.
Redpill me on Bahamut Lagoon, what's so great about it? I know very little.
How is a giant Mammoth able to skillfully evade so many attacks?
He's jittery from the caffeine from the Cola.
I know that one of the original appeals of Live A Live was the art being done by all different artists but I just love this style.
Does anybody have all of this art collected somewhere? At least, at a consistent quality? I'd love to turn it into a Wallpaper, if possible.
Man I want a Cube.
How much is changed from the original?
There is one new boss after the boss rush in the finale
>enemies now have HP bars (this makes one item and an ability useless)
>there are now bars to show who is going to attack next
>cutscene skip button
>added minigame in prehistoric chapter
>added final boss
This is probably all the major stuff not including graphical/ost changes
I really hope the newcomers enjoy DQIII.
I can see a few people disliking it for feeling too "generic" but DQ3 is so well put together that I think people will enjoy it regardless.
Look at the bright side anons. The translation is already done so there's not much they could butcher.
3 or 11 will probably be my real foray in DQ
i tried to play 1 but i got kinda bored
Finally a thread.
I just beaten the old master route. It's really funny that the antagonist and his goons name are based on Mahjong. (Iipekou, 3 dragons, winds)
I wanna ask something about censorship since I'm playing this in Japanese
I heard some lines like this
>Lei: Samo... why are you helping me?
>Samo: Because... you're a woman. And we must be kind towards women!
>Lei: Me? A woman? hahaha....
Also bandit ravaging the marketplace (before 2 disciples got murdered)
>Give me women!! Lots of women!!
and the the "puff puff" reward once we BTFO the bandit, one of female villager asked us to follow her to inside a house
>Roshi: "Wha-!? Young people are doing THIS kind of thing in a hidden place like this!? unbelieveable... this is... WHAT AN AMAZING MANJU (tl'd as dumpling?)"
Are these censored too in EN?
Those two specific examples are more or less intact but with the manju being called a peach bun.
From what I recall it was pretty much the same? Except the manju was a peachbun.
There are a bunch of rewrites with several constituting censorship but posts showing translation comparisons have been getting deleted by jannies. Yes, really.
I assume it's because they don't blip out the usernames. Either way there's not much more to discuss about it. All the more crazy changes are known and the rest is pretty accurate. Given that Nintendo probably owns the IP it's unlikely to come to PC too so you all just need to learn Japanese for the uncensored version. Start it up today even for the next game they do for it will surely continue.
No, is because they do nothing but derail threads i to massive shitposting.
Ah well there's dedicated forums for that discussion anyhow. Anyone can find it easily so I'm sure they'll manage.
I really hope we get something like that again. A game with different stories and all different artists. Would be pretty neat.
troony jannies won't want let us talk about a part of the game because it's been burgerfied? makes sense
>I assume it's because they don't blip out the usernames.
No, they're only showing game screenshots.
>All the more crazy changes are known and the rest is pretty accurate.
It's not very accurate overall and more changes have been found every day so this is a rather bizarre statement.
>you all just need to learn Japanese for the uncensored version.
It's censored in Japanese too, you idiot.
Translation comparisons unrelated to censorship have also been getting deleted.
If they actually gave a shit about that they'd delete the posts that are clearly just shitflinging, but they don't.
I think it's because 99% of the time when someone posts them they want (You)s or to derail the thread to complain about censorship
Instead of woman they say lady. Could be worse tbh
I'd argue that gets the intent over well enough, Lei doesn't view herself as lady-like, etc.
all of these are intact in the english dub
Odiwan Kenobi
Streibough did nothing wrong
I'm still not used to not calling him Straybow. I understand why they changed it, it was a little awkward of a name, but Streibough is just weird to see.
The chapter always reminded me of Lum for some reason.
>not flinstones
So they're just playing around with each other right?
everyone loves a playful bullet to the liver
Sundown is just kind enough not to kill Mad Dog
Unless the player decides to kill him.
>Not fleeing to keep up the game
Kind of a shame the FF pixel remasters didn’t get this treatment
the pixel remasters are fine as they are
can you imagine the endless deluge of b***hing for anything substantial they change?
>can you imagine the endless deluge of b***hing for anything substantial they change?
None?
7R received mass amounts of criticism because it wasn't even a remake and was being sold in parts not to mention the butchered gameplay.
Meanwhile you have remakes for 1 to 4 loaded with new content and changes and people loved them. If 5 and 6 had that treatment but with 2DHD there's no reason to assume people will b***h about it.
>>New content
Such as? the PRs are TOO fricking similar to the original games and have no new content whatsoever
>Such as?
What do you mean "such as"?
They can just make new content and bosses like they did with Geryon, Chronodia, the Light Emperor, the iron giant and any extra dungeons they want.
Hell, remember Whyt the customizable Summon? As long as they put thought into how it can improve the game there's no limits on what they can do.
I'd also like to add that the PRs didn't even include the additional content present in the GBA ports like Enuo or Kaiser Dragon, the latter in particular is odd because that was a dummied out boss in the original anyway.
>People have repeatedly shat on the various 1/2 remakes for being too easy/changing the systems. Most people consider 3/4 3D versions as entirely separate games and not replacements for originals
You are the only person I have ever seen say this, ever. At most it's a mention of the changes in 1 and 2 but it's rarely seen as a bad change.
Spell charges -> MP
People have repeatedly shat on the various 1/2 remakes for being too easy/changing the systems. Most people consider 3/4 3D versions as entirely separate games and not replacements for originals (which is what the pixel remasters are effectively intended to be).
On 2D-HD: I stand by my belief that its pretty but its primary purpose is to trick people into play 2D games "as new". The improved graphics themselves don't really add much to the experience - they will be prettier, but that's it. (And don't forget that people already b***hed about FF PR sprite changes.)
I would go so far as to say Live-A-Live uniquely benefits from 2D-HD, more than games like Octopath and Triangle Strategy, because LAL is parodies/riffs on storytelling across many different media, so it actually explicitly benefits from things like unique camera angles and "cinematography" (see: the wild west and ninja chapters).
>People have repeatedly shat on the various 1/2 remakes for being too easy/changing the systems.
Only those two though. People generally like the changes made to FF3, it's not just a "new = bad" reaction.
We're talking about the non-PR remakes. People like 3 PR (oddly likely the best version of 3 right now), but were cooler on the 3-3D.
>People like 3 PR (oddly likely the best version of 3 right now),
No one likes 3 PR. No one likes the PRs in general.
I've been saying FF6 needs a remaster done in this style for ages, but I am sure some Squeenix translator would deem it time to pozz some shit up
They already censored the salute in the PR version of 6.
gross, glad i didn't buy it
The opera looked so good in that style so its a bit of a shame really.
I think they will eventually. The chance to sell FFVI at $50 is just too tempting to pass up.
If they really care about money they'll probably do IV.
VI is popular in the west, but not as much in Japan, V has the opposite problem. IV is the runner up in both regions and thus would grant the maximum worldwide revenue.
Also they can lazily just slap TAY on it again or sell it separately for even more money.
>VI is popular in the west, but not as much in Japan
Hasn't this been roundly disproven already
>Also they can lazily just slap TAY on it again or sell it separately for even more money.
Or add another sequel since TAY also ends with the whole FuSoYa plot left unresolved.
He's busy getting high with ghost Zeromus.
>ghost Zeromus
Not EG
I mean look at that smile, you know he's already blazed out of his gourd
that's too much effort, they'll make another prequel
please look forward to playing the interlude to the interlude
Was there already a FFIV prequel? I would honestly not mind seeing cecil's rise to being a dark knight that much, and how his relationship with Rosa develops, etc but at the same time I fricking hate prequels and the hack writing that often comes with them
>I fricking hate prequels and the hack writing that often comes with them
this alone guarantees that I never want to see a prequel. Not braska's gang, not Warriors of Dawn, none of that shit.
The PSP version had an "Interlude" game that was set before TAY. It was awful.
Every time they tried to do a fricking sequel or prequel to a FF game it has always been written like complete fricking garbage outside of MAYBE Crisis core, even then I personally didnt like a lot of the shit in Crisis Core
XIII-2 and X-2 were fun enough, but not at all in part due to the writing
The intention of the pixel remasters was to keep the same thing
I feel like it is still totally possible for them to remake some of them in 2dhd
Maybe 3 to 6 because they start being more and more ambitious
So is there any new content I should be on the look out for while I play this?
Spoilers, there's a new final boss
>dumb b***h got killed because she couldn't accept her boyfriend died
Funny how almost every chapter mirrors Oersted and his life.
The new final boss makes the game feel like SRW.
any good beru porn
>Mount Big Boom
right as I post this I got a lucky streak of paralysis and the cola bottle is secured lads
dont give up colabros we're all gonna make it
I noticed that when Pogo uses his best attack he sometimes screams "doggiseian" something which was the ne the fan translation used for his ultimate attack.
I'm the strongest, Masaru is an idiot who doesn't even know what a battery is.
>Masaru is an idiot
He's one of the only characters in the finale who sees Sundown and says "Well, I don't want to fight against a gun." Can't be THAT moronic.
in the original, he actually has the lowest IQ growth before they changed the name of it to special attack.
To be fair he's the only one who can understand what a gun is, especially modern guns. Everyone else has a theoretical defence for it.
my XCI doesn't work on Yuzu
am I missing something? I updated my keys and all
Anyone know what room this is in the remake? I've tried western hallways but no ninja is appearing.
Someone posted this image in a previous thread, it must be the hallway behind this room.
I can't find that room. The problem is, is that right next to the room that gives you the view of the ninja, is this room. It's the exact same background, just without the ninja. And after sitting around cloaked for a bit I have to assume this is the room you go to following the path.
Ok. Nevermind.
Turns out, you have to go up to floor 2, then back down a different staircase that leads to the attic.
And you gotta stay cloaked for a pretty damn long time too.
Yun can learn all the moves if you pick up since he starts at level 1
Lei can learn most of it outside of like 1 or 2 since she won't have enough experience to learn all of them until the final stage.
Hong is a handicap since you have to more or less pick the best moves first then level him up normally in the final chapter.
I love video games, lads. I truly do.
Just how much of a pain in the ass is it to recruit Sundown? I chose Sundown for the final chapter when I played the original and I’d like to see what somebody else does when they’re the MC, but I hear it’s pretty annoying to actually get Sundown on your team if he’s not the MC.
If you pick Lei for the final chapter is probably easier to get him since she starts at the mountain along with him.
>find a seemingly defenseless maid with the option to say that I see through her disguise or other things along those lines
>she responds with dialogue implying she's actually a disguised assassin or ninja or something
>she actually is a defenseless maid who can't attack and dies in one hit
>What're you gonna do, stab me?
>Quote from maid stabbed
Doing it myself now, I've realized what they'd done.
They made it so every maid 'seems' like a kunoichi when you pick the kill option, but in reality they're still just defenseless maids.
They probably did it to make the player feel less bad about slaughtering innocent people.
Damn this game looks cool but I still havent beat octopath, and will probably buy xc3 next week. I'd pirate it but I never beat jrpgs unless their portable
liquefy imouto
This game is pretty fun so far. How is the SNES original? I'm thinking about playing that on my SD2SNES.
It’s a good game but it would definitely be hard to go back to. The remake has a lot of QoL stuff like actually being able to see what your moves do before using them and being able to skip the cutscene for Near Future item refinement. There are few songs that I think are better in the original (Prehistoric battle theme comes to mind) and I think you could equip any item as an accessory but I might be remembering wrong on that one.
This remake is so good that we can actually say that you should play the original version mostly if you really like classic games and wants to see how it was originally
Crazy how a SNES game can give me giant levels of hype before a bossfight
Insane
>thought I could get O-Robo after I kill the monks
>the damn money hole just disappears after the monks are killed
Well shit. Guess it's Lord Iwami with just the two then.
Aren't you unable to bring him in water anyway
Well, anyways. Now that I've done it in the remake, I can say which people I missed when I attempted 100 kills on SNES
>the hidden ninja that you have to cloak in a specific room to get
>the woman that only appears if you've killed no women until the very end, RIGHT before Ode Iou
Shame it's impossible to bring O-Robo the the end regardless of which route you go.
>you can't keep your O-Robro with you as a partner forever
What a damn shame, man. I want that finale cutscene where O-Robo jumps down with you to protect Ryoma.
How strong do I have to be for the final chapter? Can I get the best equipment each character right before the final boss or am I screwed?
TOKITA I KNEEEL
PLEASE DO MORE 2DHD GAMES
Unrelated to this thread but I was surprised when others anons talked about sammo and shared fan art of him since he´s the most overlooked disciple.
>"huh, there's no combat in the distant future chapter, I wonder what the final boss is gonna b-"
>captain square cuts out
>"DIE, CHILD, DIE"
>megalomania starts playing
>mfw
>Cube's skills don't spell out anything, especially not Humanism which is a big deal
Putting this in 'An actual localisation flubc next to Pogo not saying Love (Seriously, they didn't get the Jap VA to do that?)
Pretty sure Humanism is still spelled out in the ability descriptions.
Ah they are as 'Protocols'. Still makes the connection you're meant to get be even harder to figure out.
How do you pronounce this game again?
Live A eviL
Live A Live, or Live A Live, however you want.
>guy at gamestop said Live A Live
>it's actually pronounced Live A Live
anything important/missable from caveman chapter?
Do you like soda?
You cheeky bunch.
the cola grind sounds like a pain and probably not really worth doing?
>depriving Pogo of his Prehistoric Pepsi
You monster.
Just do it, its a good item
I dunno are you a coke or pepsi guy
Make sure to see the 2001: a Space Odyssey reference and get "Basic Rock" if it's still called that in this version.
it's called the rock of rocks
Someone was very bored.
This was possible in the original too, there are a few videos that show some methods. Didn't think that they would keep it.
It's possible to defeat OD-10 without using HP scan to force it to stop countering with healing?
>Bump Limit.
This was nice thread after all.
It was a kino thread, xenobro
>Oersted has his little redemption
>FF7R has you save Aerith
Lufia2's remake also retcons the sad bits
A Bahamut Lagoon remake would have you cuck Palpaleos and have Yoyo claim that your dick is so much bigger than his while you also frick every other chick in the rebellion behind her back.
But FFVII remake hasn't reached Aerith's part yet.
You know it's gonna happen. I'll be really glad if I'm wrong but I don't have many hopes.
Honestly, if they are having a whole plot about changing things
Going that far and nothing changing would be weird at this point
>generic revenge power fantasy
Meh. More games need to shit on the self-insert shit and isekai shit in general.
>Oersted has his little redemption
How so?
>There's another final boss, basically just all of Odio's power and hatred
>It wipes out your party
>The other 3 party members all come in to help fight
>In the final phase, Oersted rips himself out of Odio to help face it down, still dies after though
DQ8 port let you marry jessica
>A Bahamut Lagoon remake would
have you cuck Yoyo with Palpaleos and that old dude.
Yoyo would die by her villagers' hands.
Did they buff Akira? All his attacks are instant now.
for some reason his third physical attack was much weaker than the punch or kick
I wouldn't be surprised if the battle system is bugged somehow but no one really notices because the battles aren't really a focus of the game
They definitely did. When I had him in the finale I actually felt like I lost a good party member when I kicked him out, and that's not something I remember feeling in the OG.
>Live A Live gets remade
>Not Terrahomie
Holy fuuuuuck the old woman you have to kill a ton of times is absolute hell without speed up.
Plus she seems to spawn less in general than in the original so it just makes it take even longer.
I wish they had kept the "Against this Gatling Gun" line. Was it a bad translation I took for granted all along?
What does he say in the remake?
>Yes, we are men of violence but we're nevertheless men
>And so I will repay you in our common currency
>In blood and lead and death!
No, it's definitely the more accurate one.
I don't know, I'm ambivalent. Against this Gatling Gun is iconic, but I can appreciate "Repay you in our common currency." The chapter in general got more "Spaghetti Westernized" in its dialogue, and that's one of the casualties. I like the new one for what it is, but I do also miss the original.
do you get the memory card for the captain square minigame at a certain point in the distant future chapter or is it from the minigame itself?
At a certain point. You don't just "get it" for free, but it's pretty easy to find if you pay attention.
oh my fricking goood I'M AT 99 KILLS I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE THE LAST ONE IS I THOUGHT I GOT ALL THE EASILY MISSED ONES
Doesn't Ode Iou counts?
