Ah yes anon kun. You completely unbiased and scientifically accurate measure of what massive ammounts too when it comes to mmos... surely its about the # of players playing it and having the potential to meet right? And not how many you can fit into a screenshot, because otherwise even Eve online is not a mmo for 99.999% of the time, since you will get a few ships around main hubs, and only once a year a giant battle pops off where people wanna burn some ships.

I wouldn't give mind to that lad, he's a bit soft in the head.
>1000
There isn't a single mmo that could handle half this number packed in a single area without obliterating the server.
Hell, I doubt you can come up with a screenshot of more than 200 players in any mmo.

I guess.
Such feat is only achievable only when the game looks like a boardgame with players represented by small tokens.

Eve does it by time dilation, by forcing the game to go at 1/3 normal speed.
Its shit, most players quit after experience It once as an already slow as frick game Is reduced to 1/10 more
I like it, whenever I retire I will for sure bring back my corp.

make sure to buy your sub from RMT as ccp don't ban at all anymore, Its cheaper

Even shooters like PS2 had much more people fight over one base. Also sieges in Korean games are tend to be packed with people, I remember over 100 people fights in LA2 20 years ago.

As someone who had 3k hours in PS2 you're full of shit. The maximum you could get over a single base was 250. An entire continent could have 1-2k players for a single server. A single outpost is simply not capable of holding more than around 250, at that point the furthest players relative to you are hidden to reduce load on the server.

Which is more than 200, yes.

Do you know how rare that happens? It's so rare that when it does it's a big event. The large fights with combined arms that you will actually see in game are 40vs40vs40, even then that happens only on peak times, generally on the weekends now.

Obviously, developers did everything they could to kill game.

Recently in OSRS people realized they could pass a stealth based training activity by just overwhelming the guards with sheer numbers. The server people did this on ended up full with 2000 players when there's usually around 500 on average, so there was about 1500 players in a tiny zone. There was some lag but it was only occasional frame drops.

I remember that being a huge failing for warhammer online. it was touted as a huge PvP game but the game itself really couldn't really handle a bunch of players using all of their skills in a tiny area without massive framedrops. nevermind the stupid AoE spam going through doors you were meant to defend behind
Maplestory isn't actually good, it's just that the community was S class. I played that shit daily for a solid 2 years and 80% of that time was just talking to people
Because if you want a modern MMO you just play WoW or FF14. OSRS leans into the classic adventure role playing game niche far far better than RS3 does, even if RS3 has its moments.
Isn't Dragon Nest fricking dead? I heard you can only do 6 dungeons on a character now. I do miss the old DN tho. Getting a full party and doing abyss dungeons was fun. All you have today is a few private servers and only 1 afaik is still "classic".
This chart is stupid and moronic. But given some of the literally-who games in there and already specifically mentionin OSRS, you may as well put Runescape3 into B tier. Definitely not the worst but it's not amazing.
WoW was garbage back in 2004
WoW is garbage now in 2024
Your chart therefore is garbage.
Anyone who say otherwise is lowest common denominator that WoW was appealing to.
>Not enough data
These kinds of lists are shit because of that. For example. Lineage 2 was a stable opponent to WoW in Eastern European, and as I guess in Asian market too for quite a while. It died but still
There will never be a new good mmo again. All we will have is the same shitty rehashed content from "the big 4" over and over again until the genre is truly dead.
Wildstar was so much fun, but the downfall was, among other problems >competing with hardcore wow players >poor advertising >from subscription plan to free to play with pay for random shit >this meant the floodgates of bots were open, to the extreme extent of battlegrounds filled with bots in both sides running around to grind exp and farm bots for the auction house. Plus pay irl money for ingame gold >we are going to stick to the wow 40 man raid in the most hardcore way where 1 person makes a mistake and everyone dies and you are going to like it >leveling was kinda bad, with random event quests that blizzard copied and pasted in retail wow at some point. Basically you would grind until you can enter bgs and leveling was a filler time for the bgs >since the dungeon bosses were so skill demanding, even at some points durning leveling dungeons, the damage they would deal is peanuts. Everything he does oneshots you but if you dance well you could kill a boss solo while the whole party was dead, even without a healer or tank spec
Other things that i liked a lot >autistic "build your house" (competing against WoD garrisons lmao) >jump puzzles (gw2 style) >healing is a skillshot, with some classes you would have to predict where the tank is going to move to land heals, others would have such a massive area its impossible to frick it up >not too many buttons to press but the build variety was good enough >"you have to interrupt a total of X times in order to stop this cast or everybody dies"
It pains me that a character like Eve is stuck in such a shit game.
Game had a lot of promise in its earlier stages. But then so many things went wrong after another. asiatics never learn.
I don't share your opinion, nor do I think discussing this any further will be at any way constructive since we all have our own perspectives, therefore true consensus is impossible.
Is PSO 2 really that bad? I got an mmo itch to scratch and it looked pretty fun and I loved the og on dreamcast. Keep in mind im not planning on swiping.
Base pso2 in the same tier as the failed abortion that is ngs is just wrong.
It's a dress up simulator now with an economy ruined by people who are 24/7 scalping all desirable fashion items and completely control the player market. So unless you got early in the market game you will barely be able to afford shit.
Rest of the game doesn't matter since you will get bored of its repetitiveness pretty fast, all classes play the same way.
There's currently a thread up about the game which gives more details about it.
>It's a dress up simulator now with an economy ruined by people who are 24/7 scalping all desirable fashion items and completely control the player market.
sounds like a lot of mmos that have gone on for too long
PSO2 is one of the few MMOs I played where I actually enjoyed the gameplay.
But I'm sure it's pretty dead now, since it was "replaced" by NGS and then NGS was shit
as a kid I thought MMOs were fricking magical
they sounded like the coolest thing that I could never play because there was nowhere I was finessing my parents into paying for a monthly fee
now that I can pay for shit myself, they're all dead
I hope they make a comeback. I do like FFXIV but it lacks that crazy magical MMO feeling because of it's nature.
maybe the Riot MMO will be good (nah)
The Secret World was an amazing single player game forced into an MMO. Top tier writing and lore. I believe if there were a reworked version to make it more like a traditional single player RPG, it'd be a Ganker favorite.
After doing some digging this list is from the mmorpg board of reddit and the only reason GW2 is included at the top is because GW2 has a bunch of morons astroturfing the place.
Honestly kind of pathetic
FFXI should have classic privilege just based on the number of autists who seethe if you dare say anything bad about it.
FFXIV is full of those people who spend all day talking about how muhc better FFXI was and then b***h about how no one plays eureka with them
GW2 is not as big as the other 3.
STO and TOR are not classics and TOR is barely even an MMO anymore.
FFXI is easily a classic.
If GW1 doesn't qualify as an MMO then neither does half this fricking list.
I don't consider FFXIV an MMORPG.
It's not massively multiplayer, nor an RPG.
Most MMOs are not true RPG.
>It's not an mmo because it's not massively multiplayer
>20-40 "people"
>massively
the only real m(assive)mos right now are EvE, TnL and BDO.
damn the whole player base showed up?
>It's not massively multiplayer
>Or an RPG
You want to know how I know you haven't played the game?
thats not massive at all are you moronic?
>It's not an mmo because...because it just isn't ok!
I do love how ffxiv makes you morons seethe so much.
massive = 100-1000 players on the screen and not 30

World of Tanks is more of an MMO than your theme park
>Fewer people than a CoD lobby
>Massively
Well if we're going to be hyper-literal morons it is a game where you play a role so it's inarguably a roleplaying game.
t. pedantic moron
just trying to sneak GW2 in there like we wouldn't notice
Especially when GW1 doesnt even get that dumbass Classic Privilege category
Maplestory isn't actually good, it's just that the community was S class. I played that shit daily for a solid 2 years and 80% of that time was just talking to people
>youll never play the archeage alpha again
why live?
Why do people hate modern runescape so much? I feel like I'm the only person who doesn't get it.
Pay to win or something, though doesn't OSRS have that too?
Because if you want a modern MMO you just play WoW or FF14. OSRS leans into the classic adventure role playing game niche far far better than RS3 does, even if RS3 has its moments.
GW2 WoW and FFXIV do modern MMO better so the only reason to play runescape is if you have nostalgia and want to play OSRS, there's no place for RS3
Where is Wakfu
Every MMORPG belongs in the trash tier
>Anarchy Online
>forgotten in 2012
What happen to Closers and Elsword? Why Dragon nest at A?
Isn't Dragon Nest fricking dead? I heard you can only do 6 dungeons on a character now. I do miss the old DN tho. Getting a full party and doing abyss dungeons was fun. All you have today is a few private servers and only 1 afaik is still "classic".
Wait, do we even have DN private servers? And classic too?
Bwo send me a link
>do we even have DN private servers?
there are a handful around, just use your favorite search engine. depends on the patch you want.
How the population?
>Player housing
>In my game
Nooooooooooooooo
Am i blind or is there no anarchy online there? I would put that shit at least into A tier.
AO bro? You exist??

put eve In trash the game Is dead with only 3000 chinks botting 30 accounts each, game died when base sub went to 20$
>GW2
bait
>BDO in A
fricking wot m8
Just because you choose to spend money on EZ power gains and get your shit pushed in after, doesn't mean it doesn't belong in A tier.
Surprisingly reasonable list. Move LOTRO up a tier, remove SWTOR from CLASSIC PRIVILEGE (wtf?) and put TERA and Dragon Nest in B tier
There will never be a new good mmo again. All we will have is the same shitty rehashed content from "the big 4" over and over again until the genre is truly dead.
Early Lineage 2 days were amazing.
I genuinely thought GW2 was dead. Is it really that big still to be considered in something like "the big 4"?
>maplestory number one
Whoever made this is a troll.
Asheron's Call 1@2 not even listed.
Sho bros....
>all my favorite games dead and forgotten
thank god, spared the misery of current year, and there's nothing you homosexuals can do about it.
FFXIV isn't an MMO.
No, 50 players in a single lobby divided into sections isn't massive.
You've said that three times in the thread already, we get it, FFXIV lives rent free in your head.
Wildstar was so much fun, but the downfall was, among other problems

the most popular games except runescape is shit.
WOW and XIV is a fricking themepark. Not a real MMO
>no Asheron's Call
>all of this post-2010 chunk/asiatic/jap f2p shit
OP is gay
Ragnarok Online was charming and comfy, but it wasn't good as a game.
do people actually play mmos
I remember playing Eden Eternal as a kid, is that thing still around?
Wtf are the third and fourth from the left in the classic line?
Elsword was kino before they added Chung into the game
It pains me that a character like Eve is stuck in such a shit game.
Game had a lot of promise in its earlier stages. But then so many things went wrong after another. asiatics never learn.

GW1 is classic privilege if wow and star wars is up there. Based on the "Not enough Data' section I will guess you are 24-28 years old.
Is PSO 2 really that bad? I got an mmo itch to scratch and it looked pretty fun and I loved the og on dreamcast. Keep in mind im not planning on swiping.

its crazy to think that loads of people still play GW2. Ive never really heard of a guild wars 2 loyalist but yet there clearly are lots of them
DDO should be in classic privilege though if STO is, along with LOTRO. STO isnt nearly as old as those two
After doing some digging this list is from the mmorpg board of reddit and the only reason GW2 is included at the top is because GW2 has a bunch of morons astroturfing the place.

Which of these MMOs should I try?
baldur's gate 3 is an amazing MMO
Where did Tera go? Didn't bluehole sell it to someone else? Or did they just shut down and refused to elaborate further?
what a depressing list
pretty accurate, except for SWTOR being a "classic"
>guild wars 2
>big 4
nah man
it deserves to be
it's one of the only games on that entire list that is actually fun to play
