the issue with KEP is that the new mons are designed not to disrupt the existing gen 1 meta, instead of letting a new meta naturally form around the additions. this results in a lot of really weird and arbitrary decisions.
yeah, adding new stuff to gen 1 will naturally shake up the meta but nobody wants to break what everyone has nostalgia for

I think it's annoying what it picks and chooses to add from later generations or keep the same/actively make worse because of "SOVL", new types like Dark and Steel and Fairy get respectable moves to use, but Ghost, Dragon, Bug and Fighting type moves are still fricked despite adding a lot more mons of those types to the game because "that's gen 1" it's like, why not fix objectively broken shit if you're gonna put dazzling gleam and kowtow kleave in the game while dragon and ghost types are stuck with lick and fricking dragon rage
Also, forgot to add, it's moronic and annoying that steel and dark work like in the gen 2 beta, it's basically like playing with a fan type like sound or some shit
