This is the problem, it's just Raikou's head bolted onto a Brontosaurus. Wake changed the head shape just enough to match the dinosaur concept.

The difference is that Suicune doesn't really look like any real world animal. It's just abstract enough to be anything.
Raikou, however, isn't quite as abstract as Suicune or Entei. It's quite clearly some form of saber-toothed cat, so there's not much you can do with face while still keeping it recognizable as Raikou
I think it'd be kinda boring if it looked more like a brontosaurus, hybrid animal pokemon are cooler
I agree, just give a more reptilian face or adapt the cat features to something neutral

The eye is not drawn to the face at all.
The rest of the body looks too similar to Raikou too if you ask me. Walking Wake changed Suicune’s whole body into something different and interesting. Should’ve done more to change Raikou too instead of just giving it a stupidly long neck.
They didn't need to do much as its most striking feature is the cloud motif. Which is utilized very differently from the original design.

They should've taken the round "cloud" cheeks and made them drape downwards instead of up and around the head, thus making its face much thinner and giving it more of a regal look

They're portraying a living breathing world and it's really moronic to think that creatures don't evolve based on location.
Yeah but legendary pokemon are supposed to be unique. There's not supposed to be multiple Enteis and Raikois and Suicunes, much less a fricking dinosaur-shaped subspecies of them
Paradox pokemon are weird, and probably not real. We don't know their nature yet

The Galarian birds aren't "true" regional variants. They're completely unrelated birds that just happen to resemble the Kanto birds and were thus named after them.
Think along the same lines as the giant panda being named after the red panda despite having no relation.
The paradox legendaries aren't regional variants, either, but, well, paradoxes. The whole point of them is that they logically shouldn't exist.

Walking Wake clearly has more effort put into it than other paradoxes. what is up with that? it's like they stole the design from a competent and talented fan artist who doesn't work for TPC or GamFreak meanwhile the rest were designed by the hacks that have been making the garbage since gen 6
The head has a distinct look in the official art when the clouds are wrapped around it. I think the mouth was definitely an afterthought to the design. I still like it though and I hope it isn't story locked until after the dlc.

Raikou was already ancient-looking. They should've just grew its fangs longer, maybe stretched its skull a bit forward, made its body more lithe and made its mane narrower. Give us our first real sabretooth cat mon.
