1) No matter how hard I try I immediately descend into obsessive completionism wiki hell
2) Almost none of the characters are interesting
the answer is simple: play games blind and stop reading wikis
1) I use the wiki too you should avoid planning out a whole run with it, just use it as a quick reference for shit you can't remember, that's what I do, frick memorizing what people do or what conditions and when a fish is available or how to get something, I've played the game like 5 times and still can't remember shit
2) Download a good portrait/sprite mod, liking how they look visually is the majority of it, then once you've see their cutscenes just start skipping that shit and treating them like a game goal, like you said they're not written that interestingly, they are a means to an end, I take my big booby trophy wife and max friendships and be done with it

I hate that I only ever pick the default farm, but I can't pick the others. I want to minmax space. I don't like the other layouts, they're too difficult to work with. I get they have benefits but in reality any of the benefits of any one map are just a walk away to town / the rest of the map.
I just like making gigantic farm fields and having a good blank slate to work from, and all the other maps have way too much obstruction and the only benefit seems to be aesthetics.

It causes a few bugs if you install it with an existing world, especially if you have other mods installed that mess with it.
It's very bulky and recommended to start with fresh saves.
