All the "realistic" renders were already available for use and creation for more than a decade. Just because they are interactive in real time doesn't change anything.

      >realistic!
idiots think this is realistic when reality is we're adjusted to the way modern cameras present the world. 2 decades ago games were realistic too, except when you watch a video made with iphone 1,2,3,4,5 you can clearly see how shitty and unwatchable that realism is today

No unreal engine 5 is really flexible and has great methods of making environments. It's clever trickery of the eye the bodycam one. It's just basedjak reactions saying it's too realistic or gruesome when you can tell it is a video game because apparently video games are not meant to be art they are meant to all be censored rainbow flag covered playpens for children.
Meanwhile in Japan someone gets cut open and blood starts spewing out horizontally... almost like it's theater and not real...

4pbp. We were promised this sort of shit as far back as 2012. I don’t care what the “potential” of these graphics engines are, we will not have a hyper-realistic vidya which is also actually somewhat decent until perhaps 2030-2035.

None of this is interactive. It looks nice but that was it. its a 3d scanned high def texturized static envoirment.

still has too much of that modern dark blue digital camera hue to it - can't stand that look - much prefer the brown of the original - more naturally weathered instead of the hyper modern unrealistic dramatic blue digital filters

It's interesting how computer generated graphics can handle renders of man made things fairly competently in most cases, but it always shits the bed when it comes to natural creation without a template for it.

all garbage until VOXEL tech is used instead of modern polygons

Voxel displacement over geometry would solve a lot of problems at the same time, the last stuff I saw was about how easy it would be to use global illumination due to the resulting very low polygon counts and trivial voxelization.

200 gb games with 90 gb updates every week.
The isp's will start partnering with Unreal just like the hardware manufacturers do.
Yessss make sure all the kids have to download massive updates so we can charge the houses absurd internet prices for going over data caps.
Yessssssss make the game run like absolute shit unless they buy a 5 thousand dollar graphic card.
Is it actually the engine? not really. In fact if you wrote the code yourself from scratch you could make it run 500x better than if it was done with Unreal granted it would take 5x longer.

If anything the discrepancy between the foreground and background would make the think real environment with CGI bikes, but again it’s not unbelievable that this is a game other than not looking fun at all. The first video from OP is pretty unbelievable.

If you play killzone 2 on the PS3 on a CRT TV it looks as good as watching the VHS of the chronicles of Riddick in the same tv. Games aren't trying to look realistic, they are trying to look like hd cameras just like they always have been. Go outside and compare what you see to a picture of what you see to a CGI render of what you saw, you'll notice we are nowhere near realism. Games are just keeping up with cameras.

I was watching videos about NeRF and it isn't that hard to use instant NeRF to produce this kind of content instead of other algorithms, then obtain 3D geometry (for example via marching cubes then geometry optimization), texture, bump, parallax and specular (via voodoo based on the geometry and the color function) from it.

It might be worth getting a later console than ps3 if they start making games that realistic. That's a real, tangible reason to upgrade.
