I'm a grown ass man and I enjoyed both of them. If you enjoy or enjoyed Sonic, they're probably gonna make you smile as you watch them. There's a scene in the second movie that's a bit questionable, but it doesn't take away from the cool finale.

Start of the second film where he immediately tries to punch Robotnik full force in the face until Knuckles intervenes. And the climax where he pushes his mech over and leaves him to fall to his supposed death.
It's decent and faithful to the original material but there's too much focus on the human characters. Half of the second movie turned into a Madea film.
I've only watched the first one and it sucked. No idea why people say it's enjoyable at all. Very boring. Kids might like it but that's not enough for me.
They're "good" for video game movies, and the more of a fan of Sonic you are, the more you'll walk out of the showing satisfied. But if you have little to no interest in Sonic as an IP, don't bother.

I really don't know. As a general Sonic fan, nothing about them struck me as "Sonic" in nature. They just seemed like standard, run-of-the-mill kids films but with a Sonic skin slapped on. Similar to the Mario movie.
I genuinely have no idea who is watching these movies, except maybe very young children forced to watch it as a distraction, but even for that audience it seemed dull.

But you nailed it with the initial statement. The movies were expected to be total bombs and then we got like 6/10 entertainment which was way better than expected, and now it's endearing.
They're perfectly acceptable. There's quite a few references that sonic fans may enjoy, but at the end of the day it's another movie made for kids, albeit better than the average kids movie.
First movie is a typical safe kids movie. Sonic and human friend drives across the country and hijinks. Starts neat, final battle is decent, post credit scenes are probably the best part of the movie, Jim carries hard as Robotnik. Kids will like it, it’s good by vidya movie standards, but it’s a film you’ve likely seen 10 times before.
Second movie is better as the human characters (Robotnik aside) are sidelined to let the Sonic characters do their thing and introduce more game elements, though there is a completely pointless wedding scene with the humans which feels like it didn’t need to be there.
They could tease her in the last episode for her appearance in 3. The likely reason Knuckles is even getting is his own spinoff is he doesn't have as much screentime in the next movie. Have him busy with a B plot playing Master Emerald keepaway with Rouge, so he can't beat Shadow's ass into submission and Sonic will have a real challenge he can't just talk no jutsu out of.
It will be weird to get Rouge before Amy, though Amy’s contributions to the SA2 story can easily be done by the niece who gave Sonic his red shoes in the movie so I guess Amy isn’t as important as Rouge here.
Really the biggest surprise is the Knuckles mini-series doesn’t have Rouge introduced as that would have been an ideal location to bring her in for the movie watchers who don’t play the games.
A healthy mindset such as knowing Sonic acts like a generic child and the movies lack so much of Sonics identity that you could replace him with anyone. But yes, there bland and ok.

They're really good family films. Don't go in with the mindset of, "Okay, but where's Green Hill?" The best the director could work with for the first movie was "Sonic if he real world buddy cop movie", and for what they've had to build off of, I say it works pretty well.

The issue is that when something is adapted into a movie like this, it's not just for the fans of the game. In fact, if anything it's less for the people who are fans and more for the people who aren't. Of course Gregory who loved SA2 when he was 6 is going to see it if it's faithful. But he's likely to see it if it isn't faithful too. 37 year old Bethany who has never heard of Sonic might not take her 3 kids to see it if it doesn't have broad (a.k.a. lowest common denominator) appeal. That's why move adaptations are usually so bad.
So far they have done a great job all things considered. They know they have a sure home run but they can't frick it up, the fans of the games are their biggest audience since day 1 and at end
you are right that adaptations have to have content to appeal specifically to the lowest common denominator, said content in Sonic 2 was Rachel's wedding bust. basically intruding in the middle of the movie, taking 10 mins from the actual story.
however, that moment was funny and didnt really ruined the enjoyment of the movie, because it was happening alongside Maddie trying to rescue Sonic, Tails and her husband. AND not only that, it did something very important for worldbuilding: the introduction of GUN, which its gonna be a key part of both the Knux series and S3.

My guess isnt that it will be the basis for chaos, but Im thinking it WILL be used as forshadowing. That "The Biolizard was based on a god of destruction worshiped in ancient times" or something like that. Makes sense as progression too since even though Biolizard and the colony drop he tries to preform is a larger threat to the world itself, Chaos is the stronger and more imposing direct combatant. Beating Biolizard and then comparing how strong say, Chaos 6 is to him in the next movie would make sense.
Also, Amy can easily be worked around if they leave her out of this movie, and introing her in an Adventure retelling next movie would work just fine, but Rouge NEEDs to be here for it to work. Rouge should be the one to take amy's place in convincing shadow, especially considering that shes gonna be working with him the whole time. And she gives Knuckles his direct counterpart rival to form a relationship with too. Having her intro'd here also allows them to use her in the Knuckles series as a reoccurring rival/love interest that will be far more of a draw than more humans.

Paramount didn't trust the movie to stand on its own merits, so they forced the most cookie-cutter things possible to make it "more marketable" to general audiences. You'll invariably see this financial tactic where big money is on the line.
Correct, which is why only a handful of us are optimistic that Paramount will finally allow the writers to have more freedom to create a movie where a talking anthropomorphic hedgehog wants to commit genocide because his best friend, a child, was executed by a government raid on a space station after said child's grandfather created a gigantic immortal space lizard in the pursuit of creating immortality in general and to cure said grainddaughter of her super-AIDS but then said lizard started killing people due to its inhibited intelligence prompted the military to SHUT IT DOWN is played straight.
Half and half. 1 had its moments and has a good interpretation of Sonic's personality but carried by Carrey, 2 goes a lot further with it and when it's closer to a proper adaption it's enjoyable but when it focuses on the humans you just want to move on. If this pattern sticks, 3 will be an actual adaption which could make it more worthwhile.
A scene in 2 I really liked was when Sonic runs across the ocean. When Sonic runs on water it's usually effortless but the movie made sure to show him trying to keep the speed up while adjusting to the waves. It made it a lot cooler to see him actually put some effort.

It's cooler when Sonic actually puts in the effort to look cool. It's probably why I also like how in the CD intro he doesn't run across the water but instead kind of skips across it.
That's how I felt with Sonic 1 when it was the showdown between Sonic and Eggman and Sonic makes the whirlwind by running in a circle. It was finally an actual Sonic thing buried in the neatly-swirled pile of doggy doo that was that movie. The sequel had more of those moments. When it was just a combination of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and/or Eggman it was a glimpse into how good these movies could have been. I know it's too much to hope for Marsden and his family to get cut, but with all these characters and now Shadow I really hope the third movie focuses more on the actual Sonic characters. Absolutely insane that I'd need to say that in the first place, but here we are.
The ideal situation is that Tom's grandfather was part of the GUN raid so there's ACTUALLY a reason for there to be humans involved in this story. If Fowler is able to convince the rest of the team to incorporate the GUN Commander established in the movies with the Commander's backstory in Shadow the Hedgehog (as stupid as it is), that's another reason to include humans. I consider it ironic that the first two movies didn't need humans beyond Jim Carrey, but the third movie needs humans and we're sick of the ones we have.

Sonic 4 will be an 06 adaptation following Shadow's movie given 06 was the second game Jeff worked on and Sonic Team have been talking about Mephilies in interviews and shit recently.

Writing Leaks suggests Metal is going to be in 3 as the final big bad. And judging by the Knuckles trailer, it feels like they're setting something up with 2 quills.

Biolizard existing at all is a good setup for a fourth movie to have Chaos as the villain.
Biolizard is literally a failed attempt at recreating Perfect Chaos. The only reason he's a threat at all is because he hijacks a space station by accident. Chaos is a threat on his own.

I feel like they could throw Adventure 1's story in after 2's and make it work. Like the hogs could beat Biolizard and a defeated Eggman discovers the research leading up to the lizard setting up Chaos for the sequel. Then they could bring Amy into the story and have her motive be rescuing the little birds from the robots. I doubt they'd ever bring Gamma onto the big screen but they could easily make Amy's Adventure plot work without him.
To add to that, they've already got the shoehorned diversity covered. You know the part where Amy pleads to Shadow, reminding him of Maria and convincing him to be a good guy? You just KNOW they're going to have one of the black ladies take Amy's place in that scene.

The mural in S3&K depicts Sonic fighting against the Final Weapon after it loses its shell, not Chaos in any of its forms. The mural in SA1 -does- feature a Perfect Chaos mural, but it has no indications on it that it's related to the Chaos Emeralds, unless one takes a liberal perspective with the israeliteels at the bottom of it. I think the bad things in the movie can be mostly boiled down to:
- Doesnt have anything to do with the games, its more of a SonicX styled thing, but in murica and with a loser and a nog
- No music from the games at all, not even when you see the levels from the games, like green hill, mushroom hill or labyrinth zone
- Too much focus on the humans that are not robotnik, he is the only human that matters in Sonic and yet we keep seeing all these other humans that have no importance outside the first movie, which served as an intro

Hayden Christensen has a lot of the inflections David Humphrey had in SA2, so I'm hoping that the rumors for his hiring are true. I also want him to finally have a fandom that doesn't absolutely hate him, even though his portrayal of Anakin is 100% not his fault.
Anakin is a flawed character right out of the gate. He's overly-emotional, hyper-sensitive, and overly messianic, with a virgin birth and everything. His "fall", if we can even call it that, was so blatantly telegraphed that the audience was bored watching it happen. Add on Lucas' shitty directing and it's nothing but a disaster.
People actually really like Hayden, at least from what I've seen. What they hate was the way the character was portrayed and that's mostly down to Lucas.
To add to that, they've already got the shoehorned diversity covered. You know the part where Amy pleads to Shadow, reminding him of Maria and convincing him to be a good guy? You just KNOW they're going to have one of the black ladies take Amy's place in that scene.

That's what they're going for, yes, though until Sega stops sucking their own dick and allows for Super Knuckles to come back, it won't have a blatant connection announced.
We're all expecting them to follow the SA2 plot but based on the leaks it seems they're diverging from it significantly, it would be a shame if it was so wildly different beyond our expectations. They could do a somewhat faithful adaptation of SA2 and it would just work as a movie so all these conversations about specific scenes from the game make me worry for potential missed potential. I don't know what we can realistically expect.
It's good, especially the DLC content. It has two major issues however: recycled locations and heavy objects pop in (not much of a problem in the main game but later on in the DLC it becomes a big deal, especially when playing as Tails).

First movie is a typical safe kids movie. Sonic and human friend drives across the country and hijinks. Starts neat, final battle is decent, post credit scenes are probably the best part of the movie, Jim carries hard as Robotnik. Kids will like it, it’s good by vidya movie standards, but it’s a film you’ve likely seen 10 times before.
Second movie is better as the human characters (Robotnik aside) are sidelined to let the Sonic characters do their thing and introduce more game elements, though there is a completely pointless wedding scene with the humans which feels like it didn’t need to be there.
They could tease her in the last episode for her appearance in 3. The likely reason Knuckles is even getting is his own spinoff is he doesn't have as much screentime in the next movie. Have him busy with a B plot playing Master Emerald keepaway with Rouge, so he can't beat Shadow's ass into submission and Sonic will have a real challenge he can't just talk no jutsu out of.

The issue is that when something is adapted into a movie like this, it's not just for the fans of the game. In fact, if anything it's less for the people who are fans and more for the people who aren't. Of course Gregory who loved SA2 when he was 6 is going to see it if it's faithful. But he's likely to see it if it isn't faithful too. 37 year old Bethany who has never heard of Sonic might not take her 3 kids to see it if it doesn't have broad (a.k.a. lowest common denominator) appeal. That's why move adaptations are usually so bad.
So far they have done a great job all things considered. They know they have a sure home run but they can't frick it up, the fans of the games are their biggest audience since day 1 and at end

My guess isnt that it will be the basis for chaos, but Im thinking it WILL be used as forshadowing. That "The Biolizard was based on a god of destruction worshiped in ancient times" or something like that. Makes sense as progression too since even though Biolizard and the colony drop he tries to preform is a larger threat to the world itself, Chaos is the stronger and more imposing direct combatant. Beating Biolizard and then comparing how strong say, Chaos 6 is to him in the next movie would make sense.
Also, Amy can easily be worked around if they leave her out of this movie, and introing her in an Adventure retelling next movie would work just fine, but Rouge NEEDs to be here for it to work. Rouge should be the one to take amy's place in convincing shadow, especially considering that shes gonna be working with him the whole time. And she gives Knuckles his direct counterpart rival to form a relationship with too. Having her intro'd here also allows them to use her in the Knuckles series as a reoccurring rival/love interest that will be far more of a draw than more humans.

Half and half. 1 had its moments and has a good interpretation of Sonic's personality but carried by Carrey, 2 goes a lot further with it and when it's closer to a proper adaption it's enjoyable but when it focuses on the humans you just want to move on. If this pattern sticks, 3 will be an actual adaption which could make it more worthwhile.
A scene in 2 I really liked was when Sonic runs across the ocean. When Sonic runs on water it's usually effortless but the movie made sure to show him trying to keep the speed up while adjusting to the waves. It made it a lot cooler to see him actually put some effort.
For me, it was the Sonic and Knuckles fight in the ruins where Sonic kept using the Bounce Attack.
It's cooler when Sonic actually puts in the effort to look cool. It's probably why I also like how in the CD intro he doesn't run across the water but instead kind of skips across it.

That's how I felt with Sonic 1 when it was the showdown between Sonic and Eggman and Sonic makes the whirlwind by running in a circle. It was finally an actual Sonic thing buried in the neatly-swirled pile of doggy doo that was that movie. The sequel had more of those moments. When it was just a combination of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and/or Eggman it was a glimpse into how good these movies could have been. I know it's too much to hope for Marsden and his family to get cut, but with all these characters and now Shadow I really hope the third movie focuses more on the actual Sonic characters. Absolutely insane that I'd need to say that in the first place, but here we are.
The ideal situation is that Tom's grandfather was part of the GUN raid so there's ACTUALLY a reason for there to be humans involved in this story. If Fowler is able to convince the rest of the team to incorporate the GUN Commander established in the movies with the Commander's backstory in Shadow the Hedgehog (as stupid as it is), that's another reason to include humans. I consider it ironic that the first two movies didn't need humans beyond Jim Carrey, but the third movie needs humans and we're sick of the ones we have.

I think the bad things in the movie can be mostly boiled down to:
- Doesnt have anything to do with the games, its more of a SonicX styled thing, but in murica and with a loser and a nog
- No music from the games at all, not even when you see the levels from the games, like green hill, mushroom hill or labyrinth zone
- Too much focus on the humans that are not robotnik, he is the only human that matters in Sonic and yet we keep seeing all these other humans that have no importance outside the first movie, which served as an intro

I saw Crush 40 live and they saved L&L for the finale. Some people sang along with the other songs. EVERYONE sang along to L&L. I really want to see an audience reaction full of sonic autismos when it plays.
I went to the Sonic Symphony show in Washington. The first half was nice, but the second half where it turns into a rock concert was fricking kino. So many people singing along and good vibes all around, it was truly magical. Live and Learn is always the finale, they know how much it means to people. I have faith they won't drop the ball, Live and Learn WILL be in the movie.

It was never explicit in the games so it won’t be explicit in the movie, but in Puritanical America, even the implication of a child being shot to death is a huge rating spike.

It almost was in Shadow's game, but the way ratings were decided changed last minute so they had to censor it. The scene was still officially shown before the game came out though.
Intro will probably have operatives making noises while paramount logo appears and other logos as well, end with a gun shot, and the first frame show Maria lying on the floor.

Somewhat plausible theory I've heard is that the collab is literally too perfect. People might actually get the idea that Sonic the character is some kind of mascot for the fast food chain. That said, did find this on their official Twitter.
I think their fear is that people would think they are just some Sonic-themed restaurant. It'd be like if there was a massive hit character called Pepsi to the point that no one would think of the drink first. It devalues the brand to associate yourself with the same named, stronger brand. That tweet is probably the closest they'll come to even acknowledging Sonic.

Hayden Christensen has a lot of the inflections David Humphrey had in SA2, so I'm hoping that the rumors for his hiring are true. I also want him to finally have a fandom that doesn't absolutely hate him, even though his portrayal of Anakin is 100% not his fault.
I don't get the dislike for him in Star Wars, I think Ep III is the best Star Wars movie, unironically.
Anakin is a flawed character right out of the gate. He's overly-emotional, hyper-sensitive, and overly messianic, with a virgin birth and everything. His "fall", if we can even call it that, was so blatantly telegraphed that the audience was bored watching it happen. Add on Lucas' shitty directing and it's nothing but a disaster.
People actually really like Hayden, at least from what I've seen. What they hate was the way the character was portrayed and that's mostly down to Lucas.

We're all expecting them to follow the SA2 plot but based on the leaks it seems they're diverging from it significantly, it would be a shame if it was so wildly different beyond our expectations. They could do a somewhat faithful adaptation of SA2 and it would just work as a movie so all these conversations about specific scenes from the game make me worry for potential missed potential. I don't know what we can realistically expect.

It's good, especially the DLC content. It has two major issues however: recycled locations and heavy objects pop in (not much of a problem in the main game but later on in the DLC it becomes a big deal, especially when playing as Tails).
Shadow is a well-written character, but he's also a bad person.
