If I can't pirate a game I won't play it, for one game that cannot be pirated there are 1000 that I can.
I pirate because I've been doing it my whole life.
When I had no internet, I was buying pirated CDs on bus and subway stops. They were priced per physical disk and could have 2-5 games on one CD and the price was the same. As downside the pirates sometime would rip all cutscenes or voice acting to reduce the filesize. I never saw Diablo 2 cutscenes when I played it first time. It got so bad, that some pirates would advertise "Nothing cut!" on the covers to attract buyers.
When I bought a Planescape Torment on 4 cds and thus paid 4x price for one game, they guy was looking at me like I'm fricking insane. I also got Baldurs Gate on 5 cds from him too.
So when I got internet and was able to get all of this for free, I never looked back.
It just feels good to have all your games not dependant on an internet connection, not needing a launcher or login credentials.
That way publishers can do whatever they want and it doesn't affect my copy.
This is why I don't buy games that launch launchers, have draconian DRM, or compromise my system with rootkits masquerading as DRM/anti-cheat. I don't usually pirate games either, only really doing so when it's ancient ROMs or abandonware.
