Lmao this is hilariously pathetic >RTS is dead >UMM NO ITS ACTUALLY SUPER DUPER RELEVANT IN ESPORTS >no one cares about their esport >YES ESPORT IS RELEVANT, LOOK AT ALL THESE GAMES THAT AREN'T RTS GAMES! >good job idiot >UH LOOK AT THESE GAMES WITH THEIR THOUSANDS OF PLAYERS
You fumbled every step of the way
there a reason why aoe 2 gays are neeede to be gatekeeped from future aoe becuz their influence only makes it desirable for compgays and ppl who can't stand new thigns unless those ones are ported to aoe 2

It's not dead it just have a naturally low attraction in comparison to other genres, plenty of games are in that situation, do you know why they don't b***h about it? Because RTS are actually big enough that they can get dumb youtubers whine about "being a dead genre"
But you already knew that and are only looking for a bump, which you are not getting now
RTS died plain and simple because they couldn't make one for consoles that was any good and come the Xbox 360 generation all games had to be multiplat.
After that it simply didn't come back.
>AvP Extinction >Halo Wars >C&C4/RA3 >CoH3 >AoE4 >CK3
I mean, there were some attempts and it was the big names. Also a few japanese titles.
It's still mainly a PC thing though, that's undeniable.
Very half-assed attempts though. Having to move the cursor with a joystick sucks hard, to the point where console FPSs just basically cheat for you.
You'd actually need to do something similar for console RTS to work - give the units some sort of automated AI, or at least smart ability casts, or let you setup an automatic production loop. It would be cheating by PC standards, but it's necessary to compensate the fricked up nature of the joystick.
stop being a homosexual also aoe 4 probably has sweetbaby influence for the woke shit on their promo and ingame stuff. your compgaygnes is the real reason why aoe as a series is dying
ppl like you thta endorse the contuinity of the stale aoe 2 formula is why aoe has stagnated and didnt become somethign evr greater than aoe 3 or aoeo which is the aom with aoe gameplay combined but yet the aoe 2 and thopse compgays from other rts hold the series down. GO BACK Black person
genres in vidya are fast appeoaching current state of musical genres.
its just a mix and match of alittle bit of this and that to create your own unique genre.
rts didnt die.
its getting absorbed or its grabbing a bunch of other elements to where its more like a sim game than a strategy game.
How easy it is to make a C&C today with new features such as Age of Empires/Rise of Nations-style generated maps, a conquest mode better than the Kane's Wrath expansion, and much more.
But no, you want the change to be done the hard way...
I feel like RTS has always been a niche genre. Gaming landscape was just smaller back then, especially PC gaming and it's going to be overrepresnted there because you'd play other genres on console. Also it's not even RTS in general that was popular it was starcraft that was popular. And even then I think it was a historical accident that it became this self sustaining phenomenon that became almost entirely divorced from any real quality of the actual game that people latched on to create the legitimacy of professional "esports" competition.
It was just happened to be at the right place at the right time.
Soo...
RTS died because campaign scenarios weren't challenging enough and not enough like 1v1ing a human?
What an absolutely braindead take. The whole point is that the campaign is a fun ramping up challenge presenting you with interesting scenarios.
If you want to have an quasi-MP experience that's what the skirmish is for anyway. That's where you get the unscripted fight from balanced starting position.
I completed the Terminator game from slitherine on the hardest difficulty and that was super difficult for me, I had to replay missions a bunch of times and I'm not new to RTS at all
Its dead because it stopped being fun and just became competitive esports crap for tryhard autists pushing out everyone else. There's not much strategy in RTS anyway, so people who wanted a deeper strategy experience also moved elsewhere.
Do you guys know Pac clones are a dead genre?
Back in 1980 everyone was playing Pac clones. Pac clones were the best selling games. Now in current year the most we get are some Pac games as part of a bundle or some mobile shite. Pac games used to be something now everyone just plays Pac Man.
>Dead genre

Yes, if you're not making a contribution you should be lurking instead of breathing.

im still mad about supreme commander 2 being lobotomized for console, frick square enix
>because they couldn't make one for consoles
That's the best and most sensible explanation I've haired so far. RTS is the only PC only genre.

Out of all these only Halo Wars was the one that played well on consoles and even that flopped hard.
Very half-assed attempts though. Having to move the cursor with a joystick sucks hard, to the point where console FPSs just basically cheat for you.

That's such a weird take from him, I can't even tell what he's referring to.
Dota is RTS. Tower defenses are RTS. Social deduction games are RTS. Deal with it.

"interesting" is highly subjective.
I don't remember the last time an rts campaign was truly a challenge for me.
Syrian Warfare
>for me
Maybe you are that bad at strategy, but it really wasn't hard. Would've been better as multiplayer.
I completed the Terminator game from slitherine on the hardest difficulty and that was super difficult for me, I had to replay missions a bunch of times and I'm not new to RTS at all
