probably the fact that remake is an homage to one of the most iconic boxarts out there and rebirth looks like a fan mockup. It's just them standing there.

That was what the first part was about. This part is about the zack seph cloud frickery. So it fits.

I also think that one render shot of Nanaki and Seto would make for pretty dope box art.

Anyone who knows what cyberpunk is at all will understand this is your charcter standing up to a mega corp.

Plenty of developers have done great work with UE. Square don't develop video games, they just market the illusion of gameplay which is succeeded by fifty-gorillion hours of meandering cutscenes the player has zero engagement in. All to tell a story that could be told in 90 minutes. Final Fantasy is no different than Shōnen crap like Bleach or Dragon Ball.
I hope this will be as bad as Kingdom Hearts III. Even the cover is reminiscent.

My bad, I meant compared to Remake, which was PS4/PS5. There doesn't appear to be anything to suggest Rebirth or its sequel will be any different than Remake, other than installation size, which in all honesty seemed inflated for the latter.

just running around in the demo you can see the changes that have been made to increase npc density, variety, and a camera that shows a lot more of the world at one time. PS4 would not be able to handle it in the way they want.

I don't disagree. Still, Mirage has a lot more going on at any point in time than Rebirth appears to, and it functioned fine.
Assassin's Creed IV runs perfectly well on the Switch, of all things, and has much more going on at any given point, even just on a your ship in the middle of the sea, and not in a town, than say Pokémon Scarlet/Violet, which cannot maintain a stable framerate in its overworld or its densest city, which has 1/10 (if not less) the assets and activity of Black Flag. I mention this to establish that developer incompetence is a major factor, and Rebirth screams incompetence, or rather just a very general lack of effort.

FFVII "redefining RPGs" is retroactive. When it was released everybody was so obsessed with the visuals and storytelling they just silently agreed to not mention how dogshit is was as a video game. The only reason it shows up on every reviewer's "Top Ten RPGs" list is a) because it was incorrectly billed as an RPG and b) said reviewers have only played ten games.
For it's time, the Materia system was fun and gave you control over the roles your party would do, and allowed for lots experimentation.
It's a great JRPG even today. If your complaint is that it's not a cRPG I suggest you realize that genres exist

Exactly what I meant. NA releases of FF always had ugly covers while Japan and Europe got the iconic logo on a white background style for most of the series.
Remake had the Cloud cover by default in EU and NA, but you could reverse it for the simple JP style one. Japan got the classic version by default, and it's gonna be the same with Rebirth. It's much more classy.

What's the issue? Gameplay is solid, story is intriguing and the music sounds great. It's just that the visuals suffer from that ugly stock UE4 lighting. If the devs were competent they could iron those issues out but they're clearly not, so they won't.
