There are only a select few quest items/quests that trigger when you accept the quest. Most others are already there. Simple stuff like using that farting flower to shrink a pig that will become a miniature pig for a child who asks for it only after they transform back into people can be done in less than a minute of starting the game. You can find the guy that starts the hidden village quest early on, and having enough points by grabbing all the stuff early means you can start working on it early. The weird jellyfish creatures you have to throw at one another multiple times to get an item show up early and you can grab it without having to worry about getting it later by going to the right area.
All this and more. More games should allow you to actively obtain stuff that you know you already need in advance on replays.

I've been studying ~3 months listening every day to news and stuff while studying vocab and grammar but I seriously can't hear it. I'd be able to get a 90k USD job on a mil base in Yokosuka or western kanagawa, I think I'd be living pretty well. It's just the language barrier that scares me, I'm already comfortable using transport and stuff since I've been there several times. Good to know. To me Japan's best feature is its amazing rail access to the countryside and elsewhere. I'd love to go into the mountains on the weekends without needing a car.

I make more money now, but pretty much every day I wish I could go back to my town and work at my school again.

General gameplay, how well they did the mission structure, especially with the ability to obtain items for quest far in advance as long as you know what you're looking for, Tomba 2's strange fascination with adding voice acting and characters that didn't exist before, etc. etc. Talking about all the various challenges is also worth a talk since so many of them are truly difficult without a guide.

There are only a select few quest items/quests that trigger when you accept the quest. Most others are already there. Simple stuff like using that farting flower to shrink a pig that will become a miniature pig for a child who asks for it only after they transform back into people can be done in less than a minute of starting the game. You can find the guy that starts the hidden village quest early on, and having enough points by grabbing all the stuff early means you can start working on it early. The weird jellyfish creatures you have to throw at one another multiple times to get an item show up early and you can grab it without having to worry about getting it later by going to the right area.
All this and more. More games should allow you to actively obtain stuff that you know you already need in advance on replays.

I've been studying ~3 months listening every day to news and stuff while studying vocab and grammar but I seriously can't hear it. They talk so fast it sounds like 6 different words become one single word and it gets worse with different accents. I'll completely know the words these people say but I can't hear it when they talk.

While I was on jet they paid for my house so I was only paying for internet, gas, water and electricity. I was well respected and known in my town. People always invited me over for dinner, to go hiking or fishing, things like that. And when you see the other people doing the job, there are for sure some whakos, but there are people who are great teachers, really into it and enjoying life. The people that shit all over it are without a doubt jealous, bitter buttholes. After I did the max 5 years on jet I moved to Osaka to join a "real" company. I make more money now, but pretty much every day I wish I could go back to my town and work at my school again.
