I guess I never understood the appeal of power level wank as your primary appeal. I saw Code Geass as a teen and the eventual constant oneupsmanship every episode of a NEW EVEN MORE POWERFUL mech got lame and boring to me and soured me on the whole show, which I only finished to see if there were more breasts shown (there weren't).

Viewcounts for Shorts do not carry the same meaning as they do for regular videos. They are only up to 30 seconds long and are consumed at a much faster rate on an algorithmic treadmill which presents videos to people who in normal scenarios would have never voluntarily clicked on it, on top of people not necessarily watching the whole thing but just skipping to the next video, which still counts as a view. This is near-identical to how 9GAG worked. As a result you get videos whose viewcounts are much higher on average compared to regular videos, but these high numbers only look impressive until you take actual engagement into account. It's like having a trillion zillion Zimbabwean dollars, i.e. looks impressive until you consider inflation.
It also gets a "view" just by being scrolled past on an infinite scroll. Like that webm always posted of the kid tapping in Minecraft on a tablet while scrolling on a phone nonstop, he only actually clicks "like" or pauses on a few of them, but every single one that played for even a second got a "view".

I've never used tiktok and I specifically avoid youtube shorts because they always try to autoplay other videos and have no volume control, and no website tells me what I am watching as long as I have a say.

Viewcounts for Shorts do not carry the same meaning as they do for regular videos. They are only up to 30 seconds long and are consumed at a much faster rate on an algorithmic treadmill which presents videos to people who in normal scenarios would have never voluntarily clicked on it, on top of people not necessarily watching the whole thing but just skipping to the next video, which still counts as a view. This is near-identical to how 9GAG worked. As a result you get videos whose viewcounts are much higher on average compared to regular videos, but these high numbers only look impressive until you take actual engagement into account. It's like having a trillion zillion Zimbabwean dollars, i.e. looks impressive until you consider inflation.
