amnesia was a great game, but it completely lost everything going for it after you beat it once, i think you can finish it in like 2-3 hours knowing what you're doing
it's one of those cases where the game is a mold for mods, and that's what really carried it's popularity

Base game was 1 5/10 on the scary level. Justine was a solid fricking 9.9/10, that shit was beyond terrifying and sweat inducing.
I only really played Justine to 100%. Didn't like first playthrough of it much and it was confusing.

He's not so bad. Lob a grenade, shoot a barrel, lead him into a tripwire- THAT HE NEVER SETS OFF EVER- and he'll make himself scarce for a good 5 minutes. Now those rats, there's always one mean fricker that survives the corpse being set on fire and comes back. Frick that rat.

It's what made you scared in the first place that counts. From my perspective: any horror game isn't scary once you've figured out how to complete a section or how the mechanics work work with the design of a level. All of them become less scary once you've figured it out. So yes, it was scary.

The cutoff for millennial horror is the PS2 generation with a handful of exceptions like FEAR.

Technically it falls into the category of scarecam youtubers which zoomers grew up on. But it's still the best horror revival we had since Silent Hill. Even if it inspired many unoriginal clones and that being an unfortunate negative effect from it. On the other hand people were into Frictional Games's output well before Amnesia came about though. Pneumbra was also a good horror series and that predates the zoomer era of horror.

The modding scene for Amnesia the Dark Descent was pretty stellar. You should all try Forbidden Trip, the mod is available on Steam. It's really good.

This game is a lot more tense in the Hard mode, I remember being able to save only like 4 times and I'm sure I got pretty much all the tinderboxes (required for saving). Also the checkpoints were all gone, IMO it improved the game.
