X&Y were good despite being easy games, especially because they actually managed to reignite genuine Pokémania for a time and the online scene was peak. This you cannot debate.
S&M, despite having some godawfully annoying cutscene spam, had peak worldbuilding and the most innovative new mon concepts to date, both of which almost rivaled some aspects of what gen 5 did to refresh the franchise.
USUM was a bad sign for gamefreak. Barely any changes to the story, world or game at all, essentially just a romhack released for an additional $60.
You can tell they didn't try at ALL with SS, outside of maybe two (2) characters. The dexcut is a whole nother issue; SS in and of itself would be considered the worst gen even if it didn't happen.
