Now it all makes sense. They saw that their audience is bottom of the barrel smegma, so they fricked them like cheap prostitutes. Now it all makes fricking sense. Why have any respect for your audience after you see this shit?

    >game has nearly 1000 mounts most of which are free within the game
    >mount isn’t particularly unique as there’s mounts with same model or constellation design
    >players still buy the specific mount

It was much more unique in Wrath
At the time there was onoy Invincible for actually doing a hard boss
At the time mounts weren't account wide but this horse was
At the time other mounts didn't scale to your riding level and flying mounts couldn't be used in ground zones, but the horse could be used anywhere

        >At the time there was onoy Invincible for actually doing a hard boss
There was more than that, like Mimiron's Head as well as some protodrakes from Naxx. But yes, there were far fewer mounts back then, it wasn't World of Mountcraft at the time. Also, this released before Invincible, this was released around the time of Ulduar, alongside the little robot pet.

      >explain the psychology
Some people legitimately can not help themselves from buying something in a cash shop purely because it's available for purchase. Autistic and developmentally disabled people with money generally aren't worried about making ends meet and spend their money on stuff like this.

Monke want attention. Monke buy big shiny. Monke get attention with big shiny. Monke happy.
Remember that MMORPGs are basically alternate societies for nerds and shutins. If you think they get the epics for any other reason than standing out, you're out of your mind.

This one came out in Wrath, back then your choice of flying mounts was wyvern/gryphon, nether drakes, crafted mounts and drakes/proto drakes. This was the first of its kind constellation mount, and back then even a unique model, Invincible wasn't even out. It was basically a must have for any kind of al-prostitute since it saved you thousands of gold on mounts back when 10k was a relatively significant sum.

It was obviously made to be a rare drop in the latest raid (Ulduar), but was stripped out and sold to make money. People wanted to look like they cleared final boss without setting foot in the raid.

World already socially engineered the players to be unearned elitists, and celestial steed exacerbated the problem be degrees

It was incredibly cheap to make (reused models, animations, shaders, practically no effort put into texturing it... etc.) and it was the first premium mount that was released, and just happened to be released when WoW was at peak popularity. Of course it would make more money than a shitty, overbudget RTS game that flopped.

something like 80-90% of the wow playerbase would've had to buy the mount for that to be true.
I think it might be more accurate to say it was more profitable, because they spent less on development for the horse than for SC2:WoL but to say it made more gross only makes sense if you can't count so good

I remember the day this released. There was even a digital queue for it online, and I stood in it. That queue is what stopped me from actually buying it in the end though, because it really was mostly an impulsive buy thing, and the queue helped me sober my thoughts.

The thing about premium mounts is that they are largely pointless. Mounts can be impressive because they either require a lot of effort or extreme luck, they are basically a trophy. All a premium mount tells me is that you spent the equivalent of two Big Mac meals on an imaginary Happy Meal toy.

You're moronic. Starcraft 2 wings of liberty sold 3 million copies in it's first month. At $60 that's $180 million dollars. You're telling me that more than 7 million 2 hundred thousand people bought the $25 horse on release in 2010? I simply do not believe you even if the playerbase was 12 million at that time there is no fricking way that 60% of the active players bought an mtx mount

Starcraft 2 required more money on development and support than a sparkly star moneyhorse.

The only people still playing are the desperate autists who are hooked for life who will buy whatever slop Blizzard shits out. People basically lost their minds and upended their wallets when Blizzard added MTX cosmetic gear, even if it was the incredibly out of place and goody faerie dragon onesie.

This is precisely why I don't care about screaming into the void to try and change things. I'm just one guy, dude. I don't have the energy or the means to change what normalgays buy.

    People will buy mounts.
People will buy that new shitty game that was rushed out in a year like it always is to meet that Fall release timeline.
People will buy the cosmetic panties for their character.
People will buy the new skin that helps you blend into the environment.
People will spend money to make their character stronger in every genre of game that allows it, even sports games.

You're not changing shit, go spend your money on the things you want to enjoy and support and be happy without stressing out too much. Or just pirate everything like you usually do, who cares.
