This shit is so boring. The upgrade system is insanely useless and felt like something tacked on, and the weapons flat-out suck. Also the matches thing is useless 90% of the time.

The only thing 2 did better was the level design not being as disjointed. Every level in TEW1 felt like it was made a different team.

i played it a few weeks ago, it froze my entire computer 5 times or so and i ended up uninstalling at chapter 13/15 and watched the rest on youtube on 2x speed
Once again, they seem to have Remastered it for gamepass. Of course Microsoft wouldn't publish those changes to Steam.
if anything the upgrade system gets a little too strong later in the game, you start stunlocking bosses that get built up to be big threats.
I enjoyed the first one enough to beat it but all I really remember was I liked the visuals but the story was cringe. I thought it was fine enough but also I was in the tenth grade smoking blue dream after school playing a pirated version…. I tried to play 2 but it felt like slop

No, it remains pretty awful throughout. 2 Is much better. Ultimately it's a long dead game that at the time was widely bashed but nonetheless had it's own fetid fans. As time moves on everybody normal stops caring or talking about it while the fans, societal rejects that they are, find a place for themselves on Ganker

get crit rate, ammo/match capacity, everything for bolts, damage on the sniper. stamina is a meme, upgrade it once maybe but you actually don't need much at all.
the thing about matches is that you have to stop thinking that it works like crimson heads. they're used to set traps. lighting an object ignites every enemy standing next to it. you can get huge group kills with it. shotgun an enemy in the legs to knock them down, then time your match drop so that it catches fire right when other enemies are running over the downed guy.
another good trick is to aim at the head with bottles. if you hit an enemy in the head they will get stunned and you can perform a stealth kill. you can even use it on strong enemy times iirc.
the game is jank as frick but once you understand the mechanics it's immensely satisfying.
I'm mixed on it, I think its aesthetic leans more towards being schlocky in a bad, obnoxious way rather than charming and a lot of its set pieces miss, but I still like the overall idea of a horror variety collection that just constantly throws new horror scenarios at you, imagine an entire game that's the verdugo liquid nitrogen section from re4.
Evil Within 2 looks so much better, it's unreal.

Only section where TEW2 looked "so much better" is during the flashback section with the TEW1 bosses, and that just made it sad because you realize what it could have been
2 is more polished but the soul is sucked out of it. Giving STEM fricking maintenance tunnels is asinine.
