What makes me frustrated is that the mechanics are all in place for really great games and the romhacks prove it but gamefreak is so utterly incompetent that they can only produce trash
I see it as polishing a turd. It's made to be a RPG for people who never played them and are 5 years old. In order for it to be good for me it would need to be changed to the point it is barely Pokemon anymore. And I mean changes on the level of 3v3 fights are the standard, super effective attacks are super nerfed, and instead of just holding one item all pokemon can equip several things but what they can is dependant on their shape, so snaks and eels can only wear headgear and necklaces, humanoids can have chainmail, dogs, and others close enough can have jaw enhancers, and so on.
It makes team building and budgeting for equipment matter. You enter a new place and see a difficulty spike so you go the shop and you start deciding what to prioritize. Do you spend money on a really expensive helmet that most of your guys can wear and pass around for a while to save cash for a while, do you spend it on a vest only a couple of Pokemon can wear but they're pretty fricking good and them getting the necessary def would help a lot, or blow it all on anti-status stuff because frick vileplumes. You know it just adds some more stuff to prep with than stocking up and going "this is full of fire so I'll get some water and ground and in case there's a counter encounter I'll slot in the fire moth to counter it."
TLDR it's only bloat if it's never really used

But it's sooo deep, there's some hidden numbers that are irrelevant in single player because it's so easy, but in multiplayer it can change everything!
>The entire meta of competitive pokemon is setting yourself up to counter/survive a OHKO so you can hit the opponent with your OHKO and then you both rinse and repeat this 5-6 times

So much fricking this. Gen 3 OU is the only good meta frick everything else. Gen 4 is close but has too much boom spam.
I do have a Magikarp but honestly playing this section normally is already so tedious that I think I'll just wait for the daycare or until I'm in single battles again.
Its is very time consuming so i don't fault you there. I did it a few days ago myself and it was a lengthy ordeal but it felt good walking out of that place with a Gyarados in tow.
fr, youve got to be some jaded 35 year old or an actual 10 year old child to enjoy this shit.
I don't get how people don't grow out of it. Pokemon is just so drab and easy.

None of those things would improve the game. How would "snake headgear" be a meaningful contribution to Pokemon?

Because only someone mentally challenged plays Pokemon exclusively for the single player.
By playing rom hacks/showdown/enjoying the tcg art

its a jrpg of course it is
Palworld made this franchise obsolete overnight.
whoworld?

why in god's name would you ever use chansey in-game? Pick the stuff that kills shit fast you moron
>He doesn't know about the Eterna forest forced PKMN trainer partner section
t. anon getting angry over something he learned from osmosis, jej
looks like the initial eterna forest part that pairs you with an npc chansey trainer
fricking moron
dumbass
based
Its good for training up a Magikarp. Free heals after every battle makes it easier to get that early Gyarados if you are willing to put in the time.
Eterna Forest has you team up with a girl that uses a Chansey and makes everything a doubles battle until you guide her out,

>B-B-B-BUT COMPETITIVE
>open it up
>its all no fun meta teams
yes. fun.
That is why battle frontiers/towers are needed so people can play around with more oddball teams.
People do that plenty in multiplayer, never in singleplayer facilities.
nobody tries that dumb shit in the rigged frontier or hax tower
>people are using the best tools to win? This is heckin bad!
Smartest Gankeredditor.
I miss Cheryl. her chansey would tank hits at the battle frontier
i'm poppy
