It's crazy how whether it's L4D2 or TF2, any time anybody tries to make a game to encroach on it, any deviation they make from the original's formula makes for an inferior product.

The only part of L4D someone hasn't done better yet is Versus and plenty of games that use the L4D formula have healthy player populations, Back 4 Blood isn't the only 4 player coop game that has aped L4D.

Too focused on managing Steam, idiotic employee work structure, and just doing what was easiest to just collect rent from their games. Also years of 'starting' to make new games and scrapping them behind the scenes, they are probably to this day still slow-walking their game dev cycles just because they're content to get fat off their steam cut and MX from DOTA and other games.
The management structure changed and is now non-existent. The only time they went with a normal management structure since then was for Alyx because otherwise it never would've happened. Steam makes them fat and lazy with zero incentive to do anything so they just don't.
