But for me, I tend to focus more on team building these days as well as the more limited travelers. Though I’m guessing that’s why most of the Chance Encounter travelers are coming so slowly.
It also somewhat helps that we’re getting Travelers of Memory once a month. I know that EX Millard and EX Lumis will arrive on December but I’m not sure how they’ll be implemented with a Traveler of Memory. Maybe they’ll be improved or become a temporary New Encounter.
Knowing that it's impossible, for one. And there's a chance of other MTs in Bargello's banner but no chance of Bargello if I roll before him and I've wanted him ever since the beginning of the game.

Her gimmick I liked is she got the perfect dodge move similar to Tressa's and 2B's for two reasons 1 equip it with Edea's A4 in the Thief two EX5 to just dodge the deadly dagger covered in piss and cum 2 she does that cute squeezy voice after each dodge

Nice, congrats. Speaking of A levels, where do I get awakening stones for 3/4 stars? I found 1 for each character in the exchange, but can't find the 2nd needed to unlock both the U10 and A4
Awakening Stones for 4-Stars can be found the Exchange. Depending on who the traveler is you’ll either need Memory Shards, Historic Fragments or Game Board Medals.
Awakening Stones are only needed for Awakening IV. The rest can be done with 200 Silver Guidestones. Also, you don’t need Awakening Stones to bring a 4-Star to Ultimate Level 10.
Needless to say, 3-Stars don’t go to A4 at all. Nor do they get ANY Awakening Stones. 200 Bronze Guidestones per Awakening is what they get and you can only bring them up to A3.

People say shadow dragon board is more efficient for farming but from my experience it's only efficient for the ticket usage. You can probably do the exclusive boards thrice with more returns in the time it takes to do this at max difficulty. The final dragon got a shitton of hp
maybe I am wrong, but I notice it has way better clear multiplier like x3 and x4. While the other boards the best it had is x1.6
Yeah, but the base amount of coins you get is too low. Well, it IS efficient in terms of ticket to medal ratio but not for the time spent. I would only farm this board if I have too few tickets but too much time on my hand
Not wrong. But it doesn’t do much good since the dragon is really tough to beat at +10. Hell it’s tough for me to beat at +4 right now.
But yeah. A bonus multiplier of 6 if you roll a 5 is really good.

Personally I would've went for U10 before even A1... but it's hard to pass +1000 HP on a tank. I hope your Gilderoy's ultimate is already level 10.

Doesn’t seem like they made any buffs from what they’ve shown, so she’s still bad. And yeah, Prim’s A4 is great but I recommend getting her U10 too.

Even if you’re trans, I still would recommend getting U10 over A4, and Tressa EX is still bad sadly. Not sure why you’d bring that up when you’re asking about whether a character has been buffed or not.

I (the person who answered your question) am something of a Tressa simp myself, which is why it’s really disappointing to not hear of any buffs her EX version got, knowing how much she needs it. But yeah, normal Tressa will be better than Tressa EX.
She will only make the job tower more easier… which is not a good place to be in.

Long time players would likely have a ton of silver guidestones with no use left for them by now.
I have a question: is there any future purpose for the bronze or silver stones? Or are these only exclusive to limit break, Awakening and U10 and NOTHING else?
The latter. Once you’ve maxed out their levels, Awakened them and maxed out their U10, you’ll have no more use for Bronze and Silver Guidestones.
The only new 4 stars characters i ever maxed out is Cerna because she’s hot.
For the rest I decided to only get them to A4 then leave them in the bench, because I have a suspicion at one point SE will do something to disrepute the personal guidestones for each.
Never compromise over the hunts, make it exclusively for the 5 stars you have.
Keep the extra generic bronze / silver stones for when you need to convert them into Gold.
I've maxed out every 3* and 4* character including their ultimates without ever putting one on a hunt team and still have enough silver guide stones to to max out another 4* immediately, though having completed all the 4* only tower missions I'll likely just get the A4*s for future ones until I build up enough of a surplus. Silver guidestones are abundant and you'll have more of them than you know what to do with. Sure you could convert them into gold guide stones, but the conversion rate is so bad that I prefer to use them on 4*s for completionist purposes.
Are the buffs from influence levels counted as their own category or do they go under the passive cap?
Honestly, I never checked, I think they are passive all the time but honestly they feel negligible as frick. The ones you can clearly see is the HP and SP generation after each battle, however you need to get to level 50 or so.

As much as I’m loving the three guaranteed 5-Star Step-up, I’m also dreading the trade-off for it which is 1) Only two rounds and 2) Individual Guidance Fragments (made worse by the fact that the Free Banners are ALSO individual).
And as much as I am loathe to say it...it’s a pretty fair trade-off, even though it’s stacked AGAINST Free Players.
I can only imagine them pulling this shit with the Valore Trio: Levina, Sonia and Bargello. Having to spark them individually, but also getting Memory Fragments from the paid step-ups.
I was planning to skip Levina anyway, while I wouldn't necessarily mind Bargello being a solo rate-up Sonia is solid too so that would be annoying. Doubt it'd happen though because those are big banners.

Kek. Odette fell off with the release of Fortune Weapons. Bad passives, 1-hit nuke rams cap, and her 3-hit random target goes up to only 100 potency at max boost. Her one advantage is being able to lower wind res. while shaving shields, but that doesn't apply in a conversation about damage.

Lars's best wind damage skill is also random-target anon... but her non-random target options aren't any worse than any of the units you just mentioned. Except Chloe, but you'll never use her for wind damage due to the deadly combination of shit stats + shit potencies + no wind damage up passive.

Yeah that's the point though -- in fact, they're significantly worse; even if Odette is hitting the cap, at least she's still hitting the cap, even if she's falling behind in other areas.

While Odette does have a marginally better AoE and harder cap-rammer, it's practically unnoticeable, and it's not hard to hit cap with Tikilen's 230 nuke either. It's hard to call Tikilen worse than Odette knowing that she outperforms her significantly when there's only one enemy and neither of them are particularly good against multiple.
Her exclusive +150 E.Atk accessory would also eliminate the potency difference between the 2x70 and the 2x80 skill I'd imagine.
Odette's base stats are also higher, which compounds the difference that's already there in their moveset. And when there's more than one enemy Odette can actually aim at the specific enemy that has a wind weakness. So I do think that Odette is more useful in many situations.

that Odette has the exact same options as Tikilen for multiple enemies. The lower potency on the single-target nuke doesn't matter because if you're buffing/debuffing properly you should be hitting cap with both.

If both are a0, yes. But you get to a4 U10 Tikilen for free. That also bring me to another point: Tikilen can use her single-target ultimate, which unlike Odette's, can actually go above cap. Tikilen absolutely shitstomps Odette in a DPS comparison, and the difference between their usefulness against multiple enemies is debatable.
You must figure out a way to kill Yang long’s ass at the first break, if he summoned the crows - which is a guaranteed action after recovering from the first break- you are fricked
Funny that anons are talking about Odette, because I just learned her buffs in JP gave her 100% chance to doublecast when breaking or vs a broken enemy. Future's looking bright! So many crazy buffs in JP, I love it.

Thoughts on Bestower of Wealth?
Probably got the best designed bosses of all bestowers. Story's ok too except for that moronic valore seige.
I feel it falls flat too because we never saw the siege of Sufartaljah to get a sense of how Oskha's trauma was like.
All of the Master battles did a neat thing where you'd hear their theme playing in the first part of the fight, but upon entering the second phase, you'd hear a new ramped-up version of that theme. It was very exciting.
Bestower of Wealth, however? It just plays one theme when you first encounter him, the same theme when you rematch him in the temple, and then it fricking reuses Daughter of the Dark God for his second form.
I didn't mind it being reused in Master of All's third/fourth phase because it actually fit there (and Master of All already had a second theme) but it doesn't in Wealth.
The fight is a little cancer. Removing one skill from the front row is very reasonable. Spamming entire front row swap lock is not. He can also inflict sleep. I actually like the whole removing weakness gimmick, but the fact that they never come back, even after the cutscene, is a little dumb. Basically you just want to bring dagger, the other weaknesses can be ignored.
Yeah, I was surprised when it was used there. Fight was easy for me because I was well-prepared.
Frick yeah, finally full cleared the Merchant's Tower! Cleric Tower is still outside my reach though. I gotta craft some fortune staves for my clerics, I assume Rinyuu just wants as much SP as possible? Guess I'll focus on e.atk for everyone else except Yan Long and maybe Efrain since I don't have enough 5 stars to fill out a team.

No, just go for the eatk. I realized that rinyuu barely spends any sp when you use the channeling skills at max boost and regret making an sp staff
Wait, what the hell? I actually beat Cleric Tower too! And just before reset, nice. Turns out, Rinyuu's pretty useless for this as the boss breaks her channel during his physical phase, though she was able to help during the elemental one. My Yan Long's only level 80 but he still put in a tremendous amount of work. Promme felt like the most useless, I might swap him out for Efrain, idk.
I think I won this because I didn't realize when Ophelia came back from the dead thanks to her passive, it fully restored her SP, too.
Now that I've actually tried Rinyuu out, I guess I don't need to craft an SP staff for her as her prayer only costed 20 SP on max boost and she regens more than that, allowing her to keep it up indefinitely.

Not anytime soon. They just updated the Bravely Default crossover to include Ringabel and Gloria.
I don’t think they’ll be giving us a new crossover anytime soon after that. Let alone with Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest. And that’s while it’s in Japan. Who knows how long we’ll be waiting for Ringabel and Gloria to come out on our end.

Anyone else not able to get ad rewards for the past 3 hours or so? I got the first 4 of my 5 just after the daily ads refreshed for the evening, but I get this error every time I try to get the 5th one. Even plays the ad and everything, then it cheats me out of the reward.
change the ad settings from personalized to non or vice versa
Tried it, restarted the app, still getting error'd. I think this has happened a couple times in the past, but it immediately cleared up. Never gone this long without it fixing itself before, kinda scary considering how essential they've made ads for global. Frick Square Enix.

It's working again today and I think it was some sort of glitch in there system because I was watching ads during the evening ad reset. Must've counted one ad as two, one from the morning batch and one from the new evening batch, so it didn't know what the frick to do and bugged out, still claiming there was one more reward I could claim when there actually wasn't.

Here’s my problem with EX Tressa. Her main gimmick is Arrow Trap which caused dish out up to 10 hits.
Problem is you first need to use a skill to activate her Camo (which allows her to dodge physical attacks). Once in Camo mode, you can use skills to add Bow Trap points, the stronger ones add one Bow Trap points, the weaker ones add 2.
You CAN use Set Bow Trap to get yourself 3 (Max Boost for up to 6) to speed the process. So that’s an important skill for EX Tressa. In fact, if you run out of Camo, this could be the skill you use to activate it since it’ll be the only one that gets you Bow Trap points.
Once you’re good and ready (you can rack up to 9 Bow Trap points), you can unleash them in one of two ways. Either the regular attack: Arrow Trap, which deals 1 + # of Bow Trap points (that’s up to 10 hits) on one person. Or the Ultimate, Shower of Arrows Trap which is 1 + # of Bow Trap points on a group. Either way, the Bow Trap points are used up and you have to start collecting Bow Trap points all over again.
Oh and did I mention that if you take two hits, you lose Camo mode and your skills don’t rack up Bow Trap points? Yeah you have to be in Camo Mode to get Bow Trap points. If you’re not in Camo Mode then using a skill simply activates Camo Mode.
In short, Arrow Trap and its Ultimate counterpart, Shower of Arrows Trap requires too much setup on EX Tressa’s part in order to use it at its best (10-hit, max boost).
Oh and in case you thought you could try going without the Bow Trap Gimmick, here’s her OTHER moves:
>Torch - 1-Hit Fire Group attack (+1 BTP)
>Rest - Restore HP, SP and Status ailments of self.
>Double Sturdy Shot - 2-Hit Bow Single attack (+1 BTP)

Get her U10 or shard her guidestones, there's no reason to get another skill slot unless you want to use her garbage fire skills.
Rather than asking why she sucks, you should ask why she's good. All of her skills are weak, even her debuff is pathetic. Combined with mediocre stats and mediocre passives and you get a "bad" unit. She can do good damage if you build up her arrow stacks, but those get consumed once you use a skill that requires them. So it's good damage for only one turn.
Finally noticed that they cut the number of daily tasks needed to qualify for rubies to 5, which means I don't need to waste 10 seconds a day on a meaningless use of the Exchange and the armor shops. They're also now giving 100 awakening stone shards as a reward for one of the weekly tasks, which means we'll all get to pick a free guidestone every 60 weeks!

Yeah, people were excited to see awakening frags but when you crunch the numbers, it's almost as bad as getting none at all. Stingiest game.
From a more optimistic point of view (or maybe this is just the Stockholm Syndrome talking) it only takes 10 weeks to get the same amount of awakening shards that you can get from a single guidestone, and when you're f2p every little bit counts...
What is better uncap the whole team up to lvl 90 using around 2000 gold or upgrade main dps (Falco) and lvl it to 100

Not sure what you’re asking here.
I do know that Fortune Weapons get stronger at their version II, but I also know their soul slots don’t upgrade so you’re stuck with:
Rainbow Fortune, Gold Fortune, Gold Fortune, Rainbow Star.
And you’ll need a Moon Soul to raise the damage cap. (For now at least. There are other characters who will raise the damage cap, and even later Torch Poibt passives that do that too)
It could be the fact that Fortune Weapons deal extra damage to enemies in the living world while Hell Weapons deal extra damage to enemies in Hell.
Yes, units that don't have a damage cap issue benefit from the extra stats and 10% bonus Fortune weapons have.

Many units don't need Fortune to hit the damage cap. We were easily reaching the cap with Berserk weapons months ago, not sure why it'd suddenly become difficult with Hell Weapons which are much stronger.

Just to be clear, don't just pull on banners hoping to get Viola. What the other anon is suggesting is to go for Viola as your starting character if you're rerolling. Either way, Primrose EX is probably the best unit in the game for a new account and you should definitely consider going for her.
collabs get rerun fairly often because it's just square enix IPs, so you shouldn't have to wait very long at least for the next one

I wouldn't call Viola "ideal." She's just a solid, versatile unit that you can take to any fight. For current content, I'd argue that Gilderoy is much more relevant thanks to allies and the fact that so many units apply debuffs as a side job now, but he's not great early on and not every fight wants a tank. Usually people recommend rerolling for Lynette but Primrose EX does her job now so you can ignore her.
If you do plan on rerolling for Primrose EX, grab two copies and save the awakening stone. Don't use it to awaken her, wait until you unlock ultimates because you'll need one to upgrade hers to level 10.
By no means would I consider Gilderoy better than Viola for a fresh account. He requires considerable account investment before really being useful because not only do you need solid accessories or team support to really stack that damage reduction, but you also need a party good enough to deal high end content (which is the only content where Gilderoy is worth bringing) with what's essentially a dead team slot in terms of damage in the first place. With investment, Devin is functionally identical in most use cases since he has the same tools to setup ridiculous damage reduction, with fringe exceptions where Gilderoy's counters or 3x lightning can help set up a break in a timely mannet. In drawn out fights Devin can potentially even be flat out better because his U10 is readily accessible without relying on pulling 5* off banner dupes. Meanwhile no 4* packs anywhere the same utility Viola does and she's the perfect filler unit for nearly every fight in the game. She might not be the best choice for any single fight, but on a new account with an underdeveloped roster she's damn sure going to be in the running for top 8 for nearly all fights for a good while so I don't think that guy was wrong in claiming Viola + Prim is currently the ideal new player start. They're simply a very versatile duo around which you can fill any gaps you have for any given fight with the roster you have.

Let me offer a different opinion. Simply accept the hand you’re dealt with and play the game.
You don’t need multiple accounts and you don’t need to reroll. Just play the game and get who you get.
I’ll admit one thing. There is a HARD 4% chance of getting a 5-Star, so your chances of getting a specific character from Chance Encounters is extremely low. So you’ll want to roll on those stupid free banners like the upcoming Merchant‘s Calling in order to catch up.
But if you continue to play. And you continue to use rubies to guide travelers, you WILL eventually get them all.
So don’t bother rerolling.
I feel like I'm screwed after getting kicked out of the game from the Triangle Strategy update onwards. Since I won't be able to get in until I get a phone that can actually download and run the game, I'm not sure how I'll be able to clear the chapter 3s of all three Bestower plots and gear up enough to rush through the rest of the main story to date, or even if my roster is deep enough to have the team compositions required to clear the overtuned boss fights.

Bestower plots? I feel like Wealth is just a DPS check for dagger, Power second phase can get a little BS if the fight drags on long enough, and Wealth is annoying but totally possible with just decent units, a lot of it is scripted. I'm guessing the issue is that you lost your device?

Did anyone else find the BoA5 boss pretty underwhelming? I went in with exactly two units that covered its weakness Chloe and Alfyn and still managed to squeak by with a win on the first try.
I haven't found any of the BoA bosses except BoA1 hard. Most of them were a little underwhelming.

The mechanics and power creep may have been an absolute fricking mess, but at least OO felt like it was being developed by people who actually care about the franchise and was exceedingly generous in terms of f2p currency. It certainly blew the putrid pile of ass that is Ever Crisis out of the water and the only other alternative is Gumi's garbage offerings, one of which is itself basically a shambling corpse at this point.

If you got 10000 rubies then you can spare 1000 for this banner. Keep in mind that you’re basically pulling in order to get two out of the six merchants featured in this banner and that’s a risk.
I went a full round on the Merchant’s Calling JUST to get Cecily and here’s who I ended up with:

So yeah, I took a gamble that ended up paying off in the end (literally). On the other end of the spectrum, I did the Thieves Calling last year and got only the guaranteed Therion (A4) at the end.

Actually that’s exactly how it works.
The only way to guarantee a 5-Star is to either:
A) Go a full round on a Step-Up
B) Use a Veteran Seal
C) Spark the featured character after going through several pulls and racking up Guideance Fragments
This means that in any other case, you’re locked behind a hard 4% chance of getting your 5-Star. There’s really no surefure way to hit that 4%. It all comes down to luck.
Which basically means that you need to time your pull so that you actually can hit that 4% and get yourself an awesome 5-Star. It’s basically like spinning the wheel while blindfolded. There’s really no way to tell when to pull. You just have to know.
Only your instincts can guide you to that point. Hence the “tug”. You feel it, you pull, and you get results. I mean.
You could hammer away at the banner with 1000 rubies and only get the guaranteed 5-Star. Or you could time your pulls, let your instincts guide you and get yourself five 5-Star travelers with the same 1000 rubies.
I can’t say the results are guaranteed, but I’ve been able to produce better results by being patient and waiting for the right moment, rather than hammering through all at once.

The “tug” has nothing to do with pity. It’s about being able to hit that rare 4% and get yourself a 5-Star.
That could mean landing your featured traveler early (for instance, I got Rinyuu with 40 pulls so I didn’t need to spark her at all).
It could also mean hitting a bunch of 5-Stars before getting the guaranteed character. Or if you’re feeling ambitious, getting loads of 5-Stars before you spark your traveler.
Anyone can spark with enough rubies. But it’s something else to get several new travelers or awaken other companions along the way.
Rinyuu is a poor excuse for the best girl to make a cameo.

Now that I mention it, I don't recall if there was a reason Mattias didn't get one of the rings. Ceraphina had 3 rings and bestowed the Prince of Thieves one onto Simeon. Perhaps Mattias reject her offer? If we go with his final words in the flashblack, he didn't like Phina and Simeon.

Ceraphine wasn't possessed. She just deluded herself in thinking she could become a god. Lyblac was just taking a nap inside her body (l-lewd...).
I’ll add to that. Lyblac was “killed” in her attempt to make Graham Crossford open the Gate of Finis. However, being the literal daughter of a god, she couldn’t actually die (until Galdera absorbs her in Octopath 1) and so she resided in Ceraphina until she fully recovered.
As much as facing Lyblac was a twist in the formula for The Bestowers, I do wish we had a normal fight against Ceraphina. Facing Ceraphina the Charitable followed by Lyblac screams “YOU SHOULD PLAY THIS ONE LAST.”
Make it part of the epilogue or even a filler chapter. I would’ve loved it,

It's a quick and shoddy explanation of what happened during that last chapter so I don't blame anons for forgetting it.
Ultimately, this part of the story would be far better if Lyblac was cut out entirely, or if her presence was actually foreshadowed (no Matthias dropping her name once in a flashback doesn't count, Matthias isn't even a character in this game).

Bestower of Fame was probably the worst of the bestower series, though Alaune's dumb sitcom with Elletrix was admittedly pretty boring too. I maintain that Rinyuu should've died back in Master of Power, I cringed whenever I saw her on screen.

Not that I recall. Starky from the Chrono Cross collab ended up being playable with Serge, Kid, and Harle despite not being in the opening movie for the event, but he's probably an anomaly.

Yes, the original P5 collab was just Joker+Morgana, and then about a year later Skull and Violet were added with Part 2. Skull was an NPC in the OG P5 collab but Violet was absent.
Then with Chrono, Starky was an NPC in 1 or 2 scenes but wasn't originally playable until a few months after the collab.
I think every single person who plays Another Eden will be shocked if we only ever get 3 characters from this collab rather than getting a 4th in a couple months.

Shelby's used because she's the only 4-star Apothecary to have a 3x axe skill, but Soleil has that too on top of better stats across the board, better passives, better damage in both physical and elemental... you name it. There are cases where some 4-stars are more useful than 5-stars, but Shelby's not one of them, lol.

I've been at the final chapters of all three Bestower stories for months now, mostly because I'm too lazy to continue, but partly because I realize I've been too reliant on the item spam and busted job combos in the console OT games to adjust for how the mobile game's combat works at high levels.
Why the mobile game is better than OT 1 and 2 is beyond me, wtf is SE doing
Actually making hard content that challenges players helps a lot. Sadly OT2 regressed in that department.
Once I got into CotC I was sincerely hoping there was something I missed or that just didn't click with me the first time I played Octopath, but I was sadly disappointed again when I gave it another try. Even tried Octopath 2 and it was the exact same game with a new coat of paint.
The structure of Octopath just doesn't work with a game where the only real sense of progression is numbers getting bigger and the characters' skill sets are just so boring. Console Octopath has all the depth of a mobile game so I guess it's not a surprise it works better in that format. What I don't get is how the mobile version actually has better combat and boss design than the console counterpart. It'll be a sad day when this goes eos because my interest in the franchise will die with it.

Possible. But very difficult if you’re not prepared. The thing about Doggo is that he has 8 MILLION HP. And the damage cap is 99,999 HP. Which means that ramming the damage cap 11 times will knock over an 8th of his health. And you’ll need to be able to deal as much damage as you can within a 20 turn limit and for this you need powerful Soul Weapons.
There are two approaches to this. Fortune Weapons deal extra damage to living enemies but will hit the damage cap. While Hellweapons with Moon Souls can break the damage cap, allowing you to deal 6-digit damage.
It also means those tactics of raising attack and weapon damage while lowering your enemy’s defense and weapon resistance are practically a requirement. And you’ll need to use any relevant A4 Accessories at your disposal.
On the bright side, you’re only dealing with one enemy. You have 99 attempts to defeat Doggo along with a free party heal. And any damage that Doggo receives will remain even when the attempts reset. So you’ll be free to keep attacking and attacking and eventually you will defeat him.
An expert will be able to do it in 10 attempts. A Master can do it within 3.

I'm f2p and I shaved a little less than a 3rd with one team. And you get three attempts at it to get full rewards. So, as always, it depends on your roster.

Eltrix's passive only applies to herself in JP. She doesn't give HP barrier, she's a tank who layers HP barriers on herself. She's also very meh before awakenings.
I'm not sure if that anon interpreted your usage of the term buff as "skill that applies enhancing effects to units" or "global changes to her kit to make her more appealing." If it's not the latter, he's probably wrong.

If you're not referring to any global buffs she might've gotten, then it should still be limited to herself because she didn't have any skills that gave other units an HP barrier in JP.
I hope nobody spends rubies for her thinking she'll keep the rest of the team protected in any way other than taunting. She's an HP tank that gets benefits if her actual HP is full. If you want an HP barrier caster other than Millard EX, you'll have to wait a year for Temenos to arrive or start a JP account to reroll for Gloria whose banner is available right now.

Is there a site listing down the top tier weapons for each unit with recommended souls? I get that nukers to have the latest soul weapons to break the damage cap and people like Yang Long to boost up his physical stat with the fortune weapons. but when I get to support characters like Lynnete I will be lost. I would love if there is a reference sheet of sort
you dont really need a special weapon for support units, lynette will just have the brave fan
maybe you can make a a sole hp, pdef or edef spear for the tanks
As the other anon said, Lynette just wants the brave fan. Any support that's using any kind of supplementary damage skills for breaking or even during break will generally want p.atk or e.atk and anyone with heals or regens will want e.atk too. Some slower characters might also appreciate a weapon with a speed soul or two. I've gotten good value out of a +speed staff on both Ophilia and Rinyuu and taunt merchants like Gilderoy sometimes appreciate a +speed spear (this is now less relevant with Serenoa's A4 accessory being a though). Aside from that, if someone is purely using buffs and debuffs and is struggling with survivability in a specific fight, HP weapons are always an option. Really though, just make weapons as you need them. If you find yourself needing a massive speed boost, make a speed fortune weapon and so on.

Pia buffs team offense, Devin buffs his own defenses like Gilderoy. Both thier taunts and Ultimates stack, so Devin can heavily mitigate oncoming damage during his Ultimate's effect.
Helga has auto-taunt at full HP but that can't do the Devin/Gilderoy thing. Defense buff stacking doesn't increase your defense stat (which does little anyways), it decreases incoming damage. That's what makes Devin/Gil viable as tanks at all.
Of course, that does necessitate building a team with enough support for stacking defense buffs which sadly falls off as more emphasis is placed on high DPT fights. It makes Olberic and Fiore Ex more viable in the long run since they have high damage output in addition to soaking up hits.
TL;DR - Devin is a tankier 4* taunt tank. Pia and Helga are more offense/break oriented.

Gotta disagree with this part here. It's easy for any tank with Desperate Resolve to keep 30% active defense up at all times, especially if you have Rinyuu or PrimEX who are both meta picks you're going to bringing along anyway, tank or no tank.

Olberic I understand, but Fiore EX? Unless you're targeting a fan weakness, she's not gonna be doing any damage. I would've used Serenoa as an example of a tank that can deal damage while tanking.

By that I mean he can do noticeable damage with Twofold Turn -> Hawk Dive when the enemy is weak to sword, a weakness you'll be targeting more often than fan.
Should've specified that I meant Fiore EX and Olberic were better tanks as well. Olberic reducing damage by half without buffs (albeit only at full Boost) and Fiore outright nullifying attacks, along with guarding one teammate from AOEs (always lowest health). I agree Fan weakness is pretty uncommon. I will note that Fiore EX's Combust does have a niche in shaving a shield from almost every enemy. She's also Rinyuu's best row buddy, as she can guarantee attacks that force switch like Glossom's single target and the Black Dragon's wind will miss.
Add in Rinyuu's front-row SP reduction (85 ->77), SP regen for row-buddy (5% of max, meaning 14 at Fiore's base SP, 24 to 34 total with an SP fan) for a turn cost of 85 to 53 SP, possibly 33 SP. Give Rinyuu accessories for 4* accessories for backrow SP regen and now she restores 34 - 54 SP total, for a turn cost of 33 to 13 SP and a max SP of 282 to 682. It'd be overkill, but putting two Dragon Scarves on Fiore would make her restore more SP than she uses in a single turn, making her capable of completely nullifying all single or random-target physical or elemental attacks against the team every turn for free while Rinyuu can only be touched by unique backrow gimmicks.
She also doesn't have to maintain a counter buff to counter, doesn't care need to manage BP, nullifies ailments attached to attacks (pure status afflictions will still hit) and shaves at least one universal sheild point on counter, 2 if she hits Fan weakness. There's a reason she was so hyped as the ultimate tank. 30% - 80% is nothing compared to 100%.

If it's any content where survivability is an issue, you'll bring active debuffs. It's a 60% minimum, but it'll more likely be in the 75–90% range.

Fiore cuts into your DPT more than a traditional tank does. Her tradeoff is that she needs to use her counter every turn, wasting a row that could've been used more effectively. If I make Serenoa fast and pair him with a slow unit, that unit can act every two turns while he keeps the rest of my front row safe. Or, if I have Sarisa, I can put her behind my tank and shave four shields anytime I want.
Fiore can't replicate this because she has to counter every turn you need her to defend your front row.

Fiore has a lvl 100, non-Awakened Atk of 404. Gil is 354 and Serenoa is 394. Everyone has a 230 potency single nuke.
Where they differ is passives and specific skills:
Fiore gains 20% Atk and 20% Fan up when a broken enemy is present. Her nuke does 20% more damage to combusted enemies. Her counter is also 230, as opposed to Gil's 180 and Serenoa's 120. Cuts DPS my ass.
Serenoa's Twofold Turn requires one turn of set-up (it has to be the turn prior) to nuke (20% more on broken enemies) twice in one turn. Very good damage output on an enemy weak to Sword.
Gilderoy has Healing Thrust.

What the frick is Gil doing with all those turns besides maintaining taunt? All he can do is buff himself and hit with Spear. Desperate Resolve just boosts by 15%, and his Ult boost by 20% at level 10. You NEED another defense buffer to get Gil past 35%, WASTING a slot to boost Gil’s defenses instead of an attack buffer, attacker or shield cracker. All Fiore needs to tank is 85 SP. Serenoa can’t even get past 15% by himself, but at least he can buff the party’s attack. Still needs heavy secondary support to be a tank in the first place.

You can nuke with her row buddy and have her counter instantly.

Serenoa doesn't, but Gil does for 20%, for 3 turns. He needs an extender for that to actually matter. Accessories don't extend that 3 turn boost. About 5 secs of typing in a youtube search is all you need to see Gilderoy being an absolute chad against fights like the Cragspear hell duo tanking a number of hits that's way too high for Tressa to keep up with. He's situational, but to say he has no redeeming qualities really shows your lack of understanding of the game.
He's very situationally useful for tanking the occasional round of hits, but absolutely fails as a consistent tank. He turned out to be the perfect character for my 1-break Yan Long farming team because.
The real takeaway here is that yes Fiore EX is busted and yes, other characters can get the job done in the right fight with the right setup.

Rinyuu hogs the backrow to herself. That’s why I paired Fiore with her: She hogs the front row. Gil can’t protect Rinyuu from forced row-swaps; Fiore can. Fiore’s function is to replace all your necessary defensive measures by herself, allowing you to slot in 6 units all geared towards attack and offense buffing. The shit that matters.

Which is the a point in shield breaking Fiore has over these two: Gil can only 2-hit with his skills, and Serenoa only 1-hits. Meanwhile, Fiore can hit 3 times, 4 on combusted. She can also combust at will for 2 turns and 2-hit all enemies.

Serenoa and Gil have to independently maintain Taunt. That take BP. Gil has to maintain Taunt and counter, two separate skills.

Lol. I literally just outlined the strategy in my previous post. Give Gilderoy speed, put a slow acting unit behind him, and have that unit act after the enemy in the turn. Then Gilderoy swaps back first thing next turn. If you're using Sarisa, then you don't even need to manage speed.

If you don't understand how people are reaching 80% damage reduction with Serenoa then you could've just asked before going on a whole tirade. Lmao.

Gil is slower tha Olberic. With the release of Magnolia in JP, he jumped from 8th slowest character to 9th. In EN, he is still the slowest character. You aren't simply outspeeding your own characters, you need to outspeed the boss as well. His base Speed is 208. You NEED a Speed Soul on your weapon to bring him over 350 (Yan Long Phase 1). Free 4* accessories only go up to 130 speed. Fiore needs no Speed investment to work in the first place.

Buffs and debuffs are additive. 30% DR by itself is not much (this was even one of your points). 55% on top of 30% is. You'll be bringing debuffs anyway since FiorEX only nullifies either physical or elemental and it reduces the impact of getting hit by something she doesn't nullify/the effect of AoE on your party.

This. I honestly don't even use Tressa anymore. She gets some really 6-star and TP buffs later on, but as a defensive tank she's much worse than Gil and Pia is better for support.
The fact that people still underestimate the tanking ability of traditional tanks is so funny to me. The concept is really simple. Most people will agree that 5% reduction is unnoticeable. But 5% on top of 90% means you're taking 50% less damage. The higher you go, the more every little percentage means. So being able to easily sustain 30% additive defense is amazing in every situation.
Anyway, can't wait for H'aanit EX to come out and see everybody switch to using her lol. Serenoa was also my second hardest hitting sword unit in the Elite Tower too.

The best way to avoid getting hit with the Whacking Stick is to break the Trial Cleric first. Rinyuu’s Bow attack, Ophilia’s light and if you’re feeling lucky, Yukes’ Fire attack. Barring that, Promme’s Flamebringer’s Mercy skill will significantly reduce the damage.

I don't know how you got the patience to roll two damage cap up souls, but I agree. Serenoa the Gigachad. (it added up to around 400K for me lol) Switching to Gil for my second attempt since Roland makes every spear user a damage god now.
Also since we're on the topic... Tressa kind of sucks tbh. Ever since I got W'ludai from merchant's calling I don't even use her to break early anymore. I have to stack a ton of Sidesteps before taunting and that's really hard to work with when the enemy attacks a lot (like I'cirlo).
I see H'aanit EX used more than either Serenoa or Fiore EX in JP videos. Outside of that one level 120 New Delsta NPC that actually punishes you if you debuff her too much lol.
Fiore EX is broken but there are times where I'd much rather prefer Serenoa. Like Titan Tower. Serenoa was super based dealing 600K in breaks. Twofold Turn -> Hawk Dive is underrated as hell.

1). You’re leading with a strong unit right off the bat. A Very strong unit. JP had H’aanit as their first new banner and Global had Tressa. So there’s going to be some power scaling issues.
2) The step-up banner only lasts for one week. When banners in other places lasts for two.
3) While it’s nice having Tressa make a secret appearance...it sucks that she’s stuck at 4.5 status. You can’t get her as a 5-Star, meaning you HAVE to class her up with a Golden cookie. And her rate is lower than getting a regular 4-Star.

For me it was easy. When you’re starting early on, you want to go for as much coverage as you can.
Get one person from each job (Warrior, Merchant, Thief, Apothecary, Hunter, Cleric, Scholar & Dancer) and one person with each element (Fire, Ice, Thunder, Wind, Light, Darkness) and there you have it! A well balanced team that can get you through most of the story,
In fact, your initial goal starting this game should be to get a 5-Star team that covers all of these elements.
If you’re doing the English version the Sacred Night banner that’s coming out next week will help you GREATLY with 5-Stars. Especially since you are guaranteed two of them once you finish the Step-Up.
For any characters you’re missing, use the 4-Stars to plug in the holes.
I can give you a quick rundown of which 4-stars are "good" but none of that will help if you don't understand the actual mechanics.
It's a gacha, throw whoever looks cool on your team and figure shit out as you go along. I remember early on trying to form a party that covers as many weaknesses and things sort of worked out. Save your rubies and build them up.

Don't even think Hasumi is needed anymore with Paula. Doesn't she heal front row just be swapping?
She grants a weak regen on swap, which might prove problematic if you need burst healing. I'm pretty sure between her and Meena, they should be able to output enough healing to get through the fight though. Hasumi just makes healing completely trivial so she's nice to have.
The regen on swap is a lot better when you give her a fortune fan. The boss doesn't do that much damage to begin with anyway. It's very good for speedclears at least.
The dancer one is an absolute joke as long as you've got most 5* dancers and they're at a decent level. Primrose shreds through the fight and once the two minions are gone, her damage output is pathetic. The thief one isn't exactly hard either, but marginally more tedious and has a greater risk of rng fricking you over.

The ice AoE didn't hurt that much in my case, but I had Rinyuu (and attack debuffs). Do you have Alfyn?
Yeah. You need to find a way to either:
A) Tank the hit really well so that your team doesn’t face the full brunt of True Lacerating Pursuit or
B) Prevent/Heal the bleed status effect.
My recommendation is to get Alfyn, increase his speed and have him use a maxed out Rehabilitate on the party to prevent the bleed.

Axe exploit staff/fan/tome weakness. Pretty random.
Her gimmick is that she can use her ultimate up to 10 times, and after enough times she gains gimmicks like doublecast and debuffs attached to her other skills. Problem is that it takes a while to earn. She gets really good after the TP system is added, and is pretty solid for EX2-3 fights.

On the 4th ten pull I told myself I'd be happy with a 4.5* Eltrix and I did get a 4.5*...Molrusso. Who's new for me! Always wanted this cutie.

Finally got around to finishing Chapter 4 of BoA, that was a great final bit with the trial. I still need to clear Chapter 5 to catch up, doubt I'll have it done in time for Wednesday. I'm trying to remember, Ch4 came with some big changes to gear, yeah? I think Fortune weapons can hit +2 and Hell weapons go to +3 now. Does it feel like a significant difference? Might just make one of each for the weapon cheevo. I think Moon souls for uncapping damage are a thing now too, are they worth? Or should I just wait for the "best" BoA weapons that come in Ch6?

I believe the Kilns of each tower have different stats roughly balanced around how strong the job of that tower is as an attacking type. Don't know the exact values though, so I could be wrong.

I'd much rather prefer getting more sources of damage cap up via accessories, a better TP update for Scarecrow/Tressex/Joshua/Gilderoy/Cardona/Soleil/Harley, immunities to all status ailments except paralyze removed from arena fights, and more global buffs for underwhelming units.
It really annoys me that Bargello A4 is the only accessory that gives 100K damage cap up. Every A4 since then has given only 50K at most.

I saved up 50 seals myself and got my 5th Scarecrow (he's A4 now, still don't have Millard lol) and a 4.5* Cecily, who's new! Is she good for anything? Her kit looks pretty lame. Her tome skills would work on the Berecain NPC, who's my current goal, but I think I'd be better off just using light damage dealers instead.

Well I did Kenneth's traveler story today and I thought it was quite fun and enjoyable. Apparently he and Gilderoy are drinking buddies. Very fun, I recommend doing it with earphones, the riverlands music really adds a lot to experience.

Y'know, it's pretty unusual even for Orsterra to have a prospering kingdom to suddenly collapse into civil wars. You can blame your 5-star Warrior Lars/Wrath/Erhardt for that. Erhardt's actions indirectly cucked Cedric.

The way this game deals with heavier themes has always felt very juvenile and surface level to me. The aforementioned Cedric story is one of the few examples I actually think they handled fairly well, but particularly in the main story this shit is just so played out and lame. The lazy, edgy stuff was already starting to wear thin before I had finished the three initial master storylines, but at least it still had some impact because of the smaller scale and lower stakes. The actual emotional impact of the church gang raping women and cardinals grooming children is entirely lost when it's all relegated to a couple of paragraphs of text that are never brought up again and just serve as set dressing for a clichéd save the world from a manchild ascending to divinity story (which is something I have absolutely zero problem with, I just feel like the game is a little pretentious in how it tries to convince you it's anything more than that).
Agree with the other anon that Cedric did it fine. It's really the main story I have issues with. Especially everything post Master of All. The Bestower series just isn't hitting as hard, except maybe Wealth which I think was marginally better than Master of Wealth.

I should also add, if you’re using EX Fiore, use the Elemental Counter Dance, not the Physical Counter Dance.
I don't even remember her fight honestly, I just remember being surprised at how much HP she had (she inflicted sleep?).
Otherwise Serenoa tanked everything and my thieves made quick work of her.
Except for A2 on Cyrus, I used the exact same team for Tytos on 1st run (SophiaEX was there to regen Z'aanta so Rinyuu could keep up Crusader's Prayer. No PrimEX yet.). I forgot Hermenia's gimmick was Sap and didn't put up Gracious Prayer until after she put the whole front row to sleep so my casters had no SP regen and had to plink her to death with her convenient Tome and Axe weakness.
Overall not hard, just tedious. I was able to beat her on 1st try by keeping Regen up at all times. Fiore's counters lasted way longer than I thought they would. Definitely would have replaced Ophilia with PrimEX and Olberic with anyone else like A2 or Tithi.

Sazantos is far from a walk in the park.
First off, you have to defeat Signa because she’s shielding him. She’ll support Sazantos and pepper you with attacks while Sazantos deals attacks of his own. Plus when his BP fills up, he’ll remove your “desires” (translation: BP and lowers the Ultimate Gauge). Problem is, Signa has different weaknesses from Sazantos (except light)...and she goes down quickly. Meaning that after you defeat Signa, the guys who were knocking Signa’s shields are now useless.
Once Sazantos is alone, the battle gets serious. Sazantos can use attacks that lower dark resistance. He gets permanent stat buffs after Signa leaves. His desire removal skill is now put into a countdown while his BP is used to unleash a powerful attack.
This is gonna be a real b***h to deal with without the right people. Thankfully Rondo’s there to help.

How hard is this game to catch up? I know that Another Eden that plays similarly is both timegated to hell and has quite a large amount of archived events so the player has at least a decent amount of free characters.

Barely any time-limited content, and even they get repeated. Catching up is more time-gated rathed than effort-gated because the income of levelling resources called guidestones is mostly tied to daily refreshes.
Frick, it looks like I could have defeated the elite tower boss in 3 attempts had I farmed for serenoa's accessory and got a weapon to raise the damage cup.
Also fiore ex is a savior, brainlessly spamming physical counter helped me survive without any strategy

Any good guides/team ideas? And can I just use my A team and keep feeding them elite training potions to revive them? I'm mostly scared of a team getting wiped out and all my best gear getting locked out with them. Shit, I gotta remember to do the thief tower race before the end of December too! It's gonna be a busy Octopath holiday week for me.
Unless you're going over the damage cap, you should use Fortune Weapons. And yeah, Serenoa's really strong here, but if you're bringing a spear team (he gains a spear weakness below 80%), Gilderoy works too.
Remember that you have 99 attempts and if something goes wrong you can always quit and try again (everything will be reset to the way it was before you made that attempt as if you hadn't entered at all. You can abuse this as much as you can).
Is there a list of weaknesses? I heard he changes weaknesses every 20% or so. I do have an A4 U10 Gilderoy, I guess I'll have to make a p. atk focused fortune spear for him as the one I gave him is mostly hp and def with some speed I think.
I'm on the bestower quests and the bosses in this game seem to have so much HP, or maybe I'm just feeling the pain because I have like six 5 star characters with the best one being my starter (Viola).

I think it’s a 1.2% chance of the featured character, a .8% chance of getting one of the other Sacred Blaze and a 2% chance of getting another 5-Star. Could be wrong about that though.

It takes 2-3 units to replace one and it's rare for a new unit to cover every one of an existing unit's niches (unless the niche is shit, in which case it's sometimes thrown in as filler for new units) And the units most recommended to save up for have longevity; that's why they're recommended.
Richard, PrimEX, Rinyuu, and Cyrus are all used heavily in JP, never falling out of usage, so the people who pulled for them will get a lot of value from them. Bargello, Solon, etc., fit into this category. Leon doesn't. He's a damage dealer who does no more than hitting the spear weakness (staff is a meme). Frick, you can't even call it a powercreep issue, when he's beaten in value by a unit that released months before him. Roland has longevity, because even if he's beaten at dealing damage, the ease with which he stacks various debuffs keep him relevant.

It won't be for a long time, considering how stingy CotC is when it comes to releasing ways to raise the damage cap. And if he is one day, the people who pulled for him will be happy that they had him for the majority of the game's lifespan. The same can't be of Leon.

Even this statement isn't necessarily true. Ringabel for example has the advantage of releasing with 6-star stats, level 120, and TP bonuses, but they're slowly adding those to every unit in the game. And even with those advantages he's not exactly replacing previously "meta' units.
The purpose of pull priority lists is to ensure that players who can't afford to whale on every banner can at least obtain the units that will cover as much content for them as possible. If you don't fit into that demographic, that's fine–you can ignore them. Otherwise I'd suggest listening.

Anon, we KNOW roughly when those characters are coming and the only two missing relative to JP are Ninalana (Who fricking knows what happened to her) and Levina (Most likely going to be with Bargello and Sonia). Content isn't time-limited so there's hardly an issue with waiting for travelers with a longer shelf life, rolling on shit banners means you waste rubies and you might not even get to clear recent hard content.

Seconding that. Unless you’re just starting out, you should never pull on a banner that only has Chance Encounters.
Also, it’s always a good idea to keep your ear to the ground and pay attention to the Tavern Talks and the leaks. Recognize patterns and also when those patterns are broken.
And then there are sometimes where you just have to rely on luck to get your guy. Because while 6000 will get you your spark, you’ll normally be able to get your guy before having to resort to sparking.
You only spark if you’re A) Really unlucky or B) Going for an Awakening.
I started with the TS collab and Cyrus is the only non-limited who can remotely keep up with my Roland in terms of usefulness. I then saved my rubies for Rinyuu and made do with gen pools from here and there. I've cleared all the arena champs up to Gertrude (Too lazy to do Yunnie) and can get the awakening stones for all of them with my motley band so what's the rush really?
there is no rush, you have to consider the resident metasissies here give advice under the perspective that you need the clear the content as it comes out

That guy is a moron who never considered that people might also love characters who were featured prominently in COTC's story. I unironically miss Elrica a ton for instance and I'm not fricking throwing that away because some random dude on 4chins is mad about meta.
It's why I plan to hit up as many Traveler of Memories banners as possible and opposite for Sacred Blaze, every extra 1.5k tacked on if you want to pity a past MT will hurt your budget and it's way more likely than not that you'll never off-banner them.
Rinyuu is no favorite of mine, but to be fair none of the Clerics except Temenos are and like hell am I waiting that long.

The only issue you should have would be in the limited banners. Those are time-sensitive and only the Sacred Blaze, Bravely Default and the Travelers of Memory keep coming back. Some that you miss will take a YEAR before they return.
And while you have some good ones like Nier and the Summer EX’s, I don’t think anyone will bother pulling on the Christmas Banner again, even with EX Millard’s buffs.
It’s been my strategy to go for the limited banners. Problem is that most of the ones that are coming are limited. There’s like... only 5 Chance Encounters we don’t have before Side Solistia.

In JP, Leon was the only usable spear unit for a long time (content was slowly heading towards longer battles and Krauser was pretty much unusable for those). The next best spear unit was either Olberic or W'ludai, both of which have issues, so spear became a meme.
With EN gigabuffing Roland, that's no longer the case, and Roland's existence supports other spear damage dealers so even Olberic and W'ludai can pump out big numbers.

Depends on your current situation. If you don't have at least 6K rubies, definitely not. If you're sitting anywhere from 6-12K, well, it depends on how you feel about potentially losing 6K for another spear damage dealer with less shelf life than your Roland.
I personally will be skipping as I tend to have bad luck in pulling and that 200 pity is a killer. But keep in mind that you're statistically unlikely to not get Leon before pity (unless you're me for some reason). So it's up to you.

This. I feel you, lucklet bro. Pity's on Rinyuu, Frederica, Summer Butts and Cyrus have cost me thousands over the past year. Managed to get back up to 2k and now I'm saving for my gal Tatloch. I hope 2024 is the year we both get lucky.

Leon is good. Definitely worth it. If not for the Globally Buffed Roland, people would be clamoring for Leon.
Add to that that he’s Sacred Blaze which means the banner’s more recurring than Triangle Strategy. If you miss out on Leon, you could get him again in Sacred Blaze.
Krauser’s banner is not there so any future MT banners will have you get him at the same rate as a Chance Encounter so he’s doable but rare. Roland you won’t get at all if you missed him unless another Triangle Strategy Banner appears.
How often do sacred blaze banners come around?
Roughly every 3-4 months. Bravely Default’s was like roughly every six months. None of the other limited Banners except Travelers of Memory have returned yet.

If your roster is absolute crap and you have no character preference you're better off saving for characters like Bargello and Elrica because they hit much more common weaknesses and cost less on debut.
I'll hold off then, when are those characters expected?
Bargello at least should be next month, Elrica is a crapshoot because she was a NY release for JP. They're not alone too, Sonia is a very good thief support and debuffer (It was a shared banner for Bargello and Sonia in JP) and Alaune EX debuts along with Elrica (Separate banner, shared pity which is a good thing because Alaune EX only requires one copy to be a BP support).
