I play both. Star Rail is pretty neat. At first I was disappointed it was turn based but I've since come around. I think the turned based decision was the right one. Feels like any changes you make to a party are easier to notice while Genshin is a little more of a kerfuffle.
I do love me some genshin though. Tons of stuff going on and lots to explore. It's the older and more developed game and it's huge. Lots of characters though so trying to get a specific one probably isn't in the cards but there's so many effective party combos you'll still roll something great without needing to spend a dime.
So between the two, just pick the one that looks neat. It's hard to go wrong either way, neither hamstrings you for money. I'm kind of leaning Genshin since its so big and there is so much to do but Star Rail seems a little more tight with its systems. Can't go wrong either way really.

Swarm Disaster and MOC level 10 can be cleared with a Hook,Asta,Gui and Nat team - mine is level 70s~ not all traces and barely even good gear and it's been fine.

Next to zero substance with the turn based combat. when you have the type advantage and bulldoze everything, you'll only lose a battle if you zone out and forget to switch party members or underleveled. I've been playing it for the last two weeks.
The combat system is extremely stripped down (one basic, one skill, one ult, no defend, no items), but it kinda works in it's favor, like fate extra if you've ever played that. Team comp and light cones leave a lot of room for strategy.
The game itself is pretty soulful, great music and unique interactions with objects in the world, but the story itself falls into the safe weeb shonen vibe. It isn't terrible, it just feels like it's written for people who watch dubbed anime. Well expect the space china arc, shit doesn't feel scifi at all. Not to mention all the cringy memes they've put into the dialogue.
End game seems like its gonna be a total slog though. Relic farming is tedious as frick, might be even worse than EV breeding in pokemon.

pretty much, the reason I enjoy genshin is becase I can play it whenever the frick I want to or however much I want to. I could decide to play genshin for 12 hours one day or 5 mins and its up to me to decide how much I want to play that day and I can even coop it with friends to help them or make farming less tedious.
The reason I hate this is that it's just devoid of content. Even if I wanted to autistically explore everything and get 100% like in genshin, I can't because areas get 100%'d in like five minutes. As a phone game, HSR wins against genshin easily because it's so fricking ass to play on phone unless you're using a Razer kishi or BT controller support on iphone.
As an actual game, Genshin wins by virtue of being an actual fricking game.
It's literally the same as genchink. You run through some story mode, unlock bunch of daily activities that let you use stamina that regenerates 1 point per 6 real minutes then use 40 on some dungeon where you drop bunch of crap that you'll repeat everyday until end of service. The only difference between genchink and pooprail is auto battle mode so you don't have to bother playing the game.
Of course all new characters are paid extra, require multiple copies to be really good and have high chance of becoming obsolete in the future.

Like sure some underwater stuff, wildlife designs and the map are decent but the story is ass, side quests are a hit and a miss and just end up being way too wordy most of the time.

ive played vidya and to me yu-peng chen leaving left a hole in genshin impact like nothing i have ever experienced. his soundtrack was so, so important to creating the whimsical and joyous environment of the world. it simply isn't the same anymore without him, the game feels more like a regular jrpg. There have been a few times where I was astonished actually- palais mermonia makes me mute the music, it's actually offensively bad. The game went from imo the best musical score of all time in gaming to offensively bad in a heartbeat.

I prefer it over Genshit, because at least I can grind and do something else at the same time. The dailies take less than 10 minutes to do. I only really "play" the game when there's an event or a story update, and they are mostly good.

I thought the chess mechanic in the huohuo event was pretty engaging. I really want them to add more things that happen during the flow of battle like in Legend of heroes.
It's somewhat funny and sad seeing Hoyo do these massive reworks and huge QOLs on Honkai 3rd and Star Rail but they still fail to manage one tenth of genshin's popularity.
Star Rail is basically just staying afloat on purely brand name and being "From the makers of Genshin Impact" yet everyone seethes at the mention of it.
Star Rail is only popular because they don't make high budget turn based RPGs with an anime-like asethetic anymore. The last two major releases were Persona 5 and Dragon Quest XI which were almost 8 years ago.
Had this and Genshin ditched the gambling bullshit, released all the content at once and charged $60 then they would have been regarded as some of the best games of all time. But since it's gacha it only appeals to obese bugmen and nips with too much money.

I play both. Star Rail is pretty neat. At first I was disappointed it was turn based but I've since come around. I think the turned based decision was the right one. Feels like any changes you make to a party are easier to notice while Genshin is a little more of a kerfuffle.
I do love me some genshin though. Tons of stuff going on and lots to explore. It's the older and more developed game and it's huge. Lots of characters though so trying to get a specific one probably isn't in the cards but there's so many effective party combos you'll still roll something great without needing to spend a dime.
So between the two, just pick the one that looks neat. It's hard to go wrong either way, neither hamstrings you for money. I'm kind of leaning Genshin since its so big and there is so much to do but Star Rail seems a little more tight with its systems. Can't go wrong either way really.

Next to zero substance with the turn based combat. when you have the type advantage and bulldoze everything, you'll only lose a battle if you zone out and forget to switch party members or underleveled. Adventure rank or this game's equalivent ensures you'll be stuck doing bullshit you don't care about to continue the middling story. some of the characters are fine but fill that generic character anime archetype.
I've been playing it for the last two weeks.
The combat system is extremely stripped down (one basic, one skill, one ult, no defend, no items), but it kinda works in it's favor, like fate extra if you've ever played that. Team comp and light cones leave a lot of room for strategy.
The game itself is pretty soulful, great music and unique interactions with objects in the world, but the story itself falls into the safe weeb shonen vibe. It isn't terrible, it just feels like it's written for people who watch dubbed anime. Well expect the space china arc, shit doesn't feel scifi at all. Not to mention all the cringy memes they've put into the dialogue.
End game seems like its gonna be a total slog though. Relic farming is tedious as frick, might be even worse than EV breeding in pokemon.

pretty much, the reason I enjoy genshin is becase I can play it whenever the frick I want to or however much I want to. I could decide to play genshin for 12 hours one day or 5 mins and its up to me to decide how much I want to play that day and I can even coop it with friends to help them or make farming less tedious.
The reason I hate this is that it's just devoid of content. Even if I wanted to autistically explore everything and get 100% like in genshin, I can't because areas get 100%'d in like five minutes. It's a game that I log in on patch day, play for a few hours and that's my entire allotted content for the entire patch. I can't even discuss it because the fanbase is more obsessed with sticking it to genshin than to discuss their game or improving their game through feedback so it's a lost cause.

Neither Star Rail or Zensored Zone Zero have that to offer
It's literally the same as genchink. You run through some story mode, unlock bunch of daily activities that let you use stamina that regenerates 1 point per 6 real minutes then use 40 on some dungeon where you drop bunch of crap that you'll repeat everyday until end of service. The only difference between genchink and pooprail is auto battle mode so you don't have to bother playing the game.
Of course all new characters are paid extra, require multiple copies to be really good and have high chance of becoming obsolete in the future.
I just log in every few months to do the new main story they add. It sucks to wait 3 or 4 months for a few hours of new story though.

ive played vidya and to me yu-peng chen leaving left a hole in genshin impact like nothing i have ever experienced. his soundtrack was so, so important to creating the whimsical and joyous environment of the world. it simply isn't the same anymore without him, the game feels more like a regular jrpg. There have been a few times where I was astonished actually- palais mermonia makes me mute the music, it's actually offensively bad. The game went from imo the best musical score of all time in gaming to offensively bad in a heartbeat.

It's somewhat funny and sad seeing Hoyo do these massive reworks and huge QOLs on Honkai 3rd and Star Rail but they still fail to manage one tenth of genshin's popularity.
Star Rail is basically just staying afloat on purely brand name and being "From the makers of Genshin Impact" yet everyone seethes at the mention of it.
Star Rail is only popular because they don't make high budget turn based RPGs with an anime-like asethetic anymore. The last two major releases were Persona 5 and Dragon Quest XI which were almost 8 years ago.
Had this and Genshin ditched the gambling bullshit, released all the content at once and charged $60 then they would have been regarded as some of the best games of all time. But since it's gacha it only appeals to obese bugmen and nips with too much money.
