Fenrir is the cheaper option or you could just get a Kai cart and some discs and burn them yourself. Or just be a pleb like me and do this
This is why I recommended against buying a Saturn in that other thread and why I haven't yet bought one myself btw. Even if the console itself is cheap there's no way around paying for the games.
I like mine just fine for the price. Get to keep playing muh discs and not mess around inside the console.
The compatibility isn't perfect, maybe they were bad dumps but there are a couple of games I didn't get to work that I saw other people on forums also having problems with. For example Bubble Bobble/Rainbow Islands is known not working, and I have no idea what they mean by "works with reset" on the github because resetting returns to the music player for me, maybe I'm moronic.
Sometimes it doesn't play music when it should, so you end up with weird silent levels with otherwise perfect gameplay. I don't know if other ODEs have that issue.
No firmware updates since 2022-10-26.
Oh I forgot that you can't save directly to it as far as I know, but you can copy saves on the console to and from the sd card storage. Being able to back up saves to a computer is a big improvement over fricking around with the usual Saturn nonsense.
You will still need a ram cart to play ram cart games.
If you use the Rings Menu for it it can essentially save directly to it. It creates a sram file for each game, and saves the current sram and swaps to the game’s sram every time you launch a game. Pretty much per game saves that backup to the SD card each time.
I would just burn discs and wait another year for saroo flashcart to further develop. That thing basically has everything anyone would want in one cartridge. And we're now in this awkward stage where we have all of these great products that will shortly be obsolete. I have a fenrir and am very excited to move on from Saturn's save system and the dumb cartridge expansions.
You unscrew the console and wrap tape around a lever that makes the console think the drive is always closed. Then you buy the cheapest Saturn game available, put it in, and swap the disk with a burned one after the security check is over. I got nhl 95 for like 5 bucks at my local shop and the autistic cashier guy looked at my id for a whole minute just because he heard my gf and I talking about it. Or you spend 30 bucks on AliExpress for a 4-in-1 cart and don't worry about swapping, which is honestly a lot more convenient.
That doesn't help. It looks like satiate, which is how I read it, but I don't know if the creator was going for some kind of pun with SATurn + gladIATOR. You should try being more helpful and less hateful.
Very yes, all you lose out on is less than a dozen MPEG card games that are mostly just jarpigs with regular releases already out there and it keeps the CD drive intact so you can still play any disc games you have available. The posts about using burned CDs and a Psuedo cart feel like giga cope after using this for half a year.
If I'm going to remove the disc drive from a console to put in an ODE I'd rather take it out of one that has a dead drive so it can do something it had been prevented from doing otherwise, especially if there are options exist like the Satiator that enable doing so without harming the system's default configuration (like for the Dreamcast you have to take out the drive to put in an ODE so you may need to sacrifice a working console's drive to do so -- the Saturn isn't bound by that if you're willing to go the extra mile).

Fenrir doesn't require soldering. You just remove the laser and put the Fenrir in it's place.

Only if you own a Saturn and don't want to use burned discs or a MiSTer.
If you want to use burned discs, do you have to hard mod the console first?

>Saroo
Happy 10 year never ever anniversary
get a pseudo saturn
No. You just need the Pseudo Saturn cartridge.
How do you pronounce this thing? Does it rhyme with gladiator or is it like satiate?
say she ate er
>American education
That doesn't help. It looks like satiate, which is how I read it, but I don't know if the creator was going for some kind of pun with SATurn + gladIATOR. You should try being more helpful and less hateful.
>That doesn't help
Agreed, american education does not help anyone.
I meant your feedback, you antagonistic piece of shit. But you knew that already and chose to be ignorant.
If you want to look smart, capitalize American next time. You are an idiot.
Pronounce it like the normal word. The katakana spelling on the box makes it unambiguous.
I don't buy anything that isn't 100% compatible.
A $20 modchip and stack of CDRs does the same and has perfect compatibility.
are the lasers in saturns still holding up?
Do I need to get over my commitment to preserving my childhood hardware in its original form?
No there's no soldering necessary for the Saturn
Yeah, but if I Fenrir my original Saturn then it has to be mutilated.
>mutilated
don't be so dramatic. you're not cutting the shell or soldering anything. look at xstation if you want to say that
https://www.fenrir-ode.fr/installation/
But Satiator involves nothing internally at all.
Yeah I know but he was talking about fenrir
And that's why it costs twice as much.
Even with a fenrir youre just swapping cables around inside. Honestly putting everything back would take like 5 minutes

Recommending someone to buy this when saroo is so far along through development is a one way ticket to hell my friends
just 2 more weeks
You probably don't know anything about the current state of it anyway
I guess this is a new update?

Was worth it to me. Im not going to remove functionality from my frickin console for an ODE. This device actually lets me play my physical games.
You could... you know... get two consoles?
I got a switcher for my fenrir. Chip went eol though so the British guy gave up on making them. The dev should really sell his own
