No it isn't, in the first one the bad guy is a corrupt Russian general that went rogue and against the government's orders, and in the second one is some muslim that got his hands on some missile.

What they have to do is stop making these campaigns nobody plays and focus resources on the multiplayer so it doesn't come out broken again.

That was actually going to be the twist of the original MW2. Shepherd was given a blank check and the opportunity to stir hell solely to incite the Russian invasion so America would get the excuse to strike back, cripple Russia and profiteer off of the war. He'd even rant it at you as you chased him around in Price's shoes with a knife instead of Soap, trying to get the drop on him in a partial recreation of Rust in the middle of a sandstorm while he could kill you in seconds with a Desert Eagle.

But since the literal US military does oversight for the series, they stepped in and forced IW to rework it into Shep going rogue vengeance.

You think that's bad, they're ready to repeat it. There is no Modern Warfare II on Steam or any storefronts anymore. It's all "Call of Duty HQ" in prep for being able to buy more games to tie into their Warzone ecosystem that you boot up individually. They want to continuously invalidate and design planned obsolescence into your fricking games now and bloat drive install sizes to the fricking moon.

Planned obsolescence is the industry standard in every other part of the economy. Why are you whining when your games are at last being recognized as a serious market rather than being thought of as just children's toys?

Then MWII's updates were absolutely fricking awful, the game itself is a giant mess, and almost everything's been fricked with in favor of Warzone 2.0's DMZ mode. Which is F2P, meaning you spent $70 for shit multiplayer modes and campaign that Acti have clearly wanted to abandon for the Fortnite competition train.

Now they're declaring that their promise is a lie and they want you to buy a probably $70 expansion without any real context to what it actually has.

Why is Fortnite able to make engine uprgades and optimizations and introduce new features while CoD needs new releases bi-anually? Do they actually make more profit doing it this way?

Seriously, Fortnite isn't perfect but at least they don't churn out Fortnite 2 with three new features and go "no skins will carry over, buy them all again".

Are people downvoting it because Modern Warfare 2 came out less than a year ago? If so, the series has been a yearly release 99% of the time since 2003: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Call_of_Duty#Main_series

nah they're downvoting it because its 1 a full release when we already know from insider shit it was originally just an expansion and they are turning around selling the expansion for 70$ 2 they are saving all the maps people give a shit about from mw2009 for this expansion (terminal, highrise, ect ect) and 3 MW2022 has been a buggy fricking mess since it came out, a ton of changes no one asked for like the perk system and they have only just NOW started changing shit back to what it was in mw2019, the game everyone hoped mw2022 to be but with more content.

I'll always find it funny that even though they have basically limitless funds and could easily make something incredibly compelling and engaging, say a STALKER-esque semi-open world single player that uses the entirety of the Warzone map to make a nice 20hr or so story, but instead churn out the exact same game every single year, year after year, because it prints ever so slightly more money, despite kicking fans in the teeth and sloughing off players with each new entry.

of the modern bunch since PS5/XSX? Black Ops Cold War, though the way it was "handled" involving co-sharing with MW19 and Vanguard thanks to the Warzone shit means there's a bit of a mess with its multiplayer
i'd say Black Ops and Black Ops II were a fair deal better than some of the surrounding shit after OG MW2, MW3 wasn't bad exactly but it was kinda underwhelming, and for all the shit it gets Infinite Warfare was neat for various reasons even if the MP was bland. the rest of them in the gap from then to now is such a fricking crapshoot that it's all over the fricking place

Those remakes came out along with Infinity Ward games.
COD4 remake came out with Infinite Warfare, MW2's came out with MW2019.
This time no trace of MW3.
Because the MW2 remake, unlike COD4's, only had the campaign and no one bought it, because you have to be an idiot to spend $50 on a 4 hour long campaign.

recently they have been usable but they were bugged throughout most of the year to fail while under uavs.
        >Le tradeoffs
The problem was that majority of attachments gimped stats that mattered too much for minimal gain. The only attachments people ran were anything that gave shit for free while keeping ads speed as low as possible.

One war zone that lasts forever that's better than Fortnite does not make as much money as a new war zone every year where players have to restart the grind and be incentivized to pay large sums of money for xp boosts. These yearly COD installments are impossible to keep up with. I'm almost certain by now they've already made a Modern Warfare 3, but then I thought I saw Modern Warfare (1, I'm guessing) for sale pretty recently so maybe they are remakes? Who the frick knows. I also don't know what kind of sad, pathetic frick is still playing COD in 2023. I never got into it like some people, but I'll admit it was a big deal back in the COD 4 days and those next few releases, but that was like 15 years ago.

      Anonymous

      >I'm almost certain by now they've already made a Modern Warfare 3
      They did, back in 2011.
Then they became desperate and released a reboot called just Modern Warfare in 2019, there was a sequel last year, Modern Warfare II, and this one was originally meant to be DLC for MWII that got repurposed into a full game.
The thing is, there's also remakes of the original Modern Warfare and MW2, the ones from 2007 and 2009, that are called "Remastered" for some reason even though they are actual remakes.
So basically COD started losing strength and went hard on nostalgia pandering, which is fizzling out due to their incompetence.

Modern Warfare reboot in 2019, which actually tried to tell a new story, do a new idea of things, have a massive presentation and gameplay flow rework. It was more tactical than tacticool, super low TTK, but the map design allowed for tons of camping and the usual fans b***hed so hard that the games that followed went back to arcadey style. The sequel to that reboot last year then proceeded to both try to nostalgiabait more yet also skullfricked itself with a blatant show of hands that this series can't even wipe its own ass without being told to anymore.

Dude what are you talking about, MW2019 was actually even more arcade than MWII because it had things like reload and slide cancel.
MWII is a mess that tries both to be more tacticool than MW2019 while also pandering to the "KNIFE RUN KNIFE RUN KNIFE RUN" crowd.

The most freeing experience in video games for me was probably getting over CoD. I swear the playerbase is trapped in their own mental hell thinking "maybe this one will be better".

      So MW19 was a fluke?
Infinity Ward never recovered after original MW2, when everyone that made COD worthwhile left.

Remember when Vanguard advertised itself that COD never had any iconic character? lmao

Some guy who normally leaks stuff from COD said that pretty much all the seniors at IW were fed up with Activision for pushing them around during MWII's development and that most of them would leave around the end of the game's development, and seeing the state of the game where some parts point at wanting to be more arcade, others wanting to be more tacticool and the atrocious post launch support I think that one turned out to be true.

not by much, mw2022 had a lot of hype because everyone fricking loved mw2019 and was the pandemic game for a ton of people so everyone had high expectations for mw2019 but better/more. You could argue it was just as big just because of the pandemic though.

It's simple, you don't buy new COD every year.
People actually play those games, even after the next game's launch.
The last 2 cawadooties have horrible reputation. As far as last year I was still playing nu-MW, and this year Cold War.
I even played Black Ops 2 earlier this year on PC, even though TDM is the only mode alive and apparently it's filled RCE exploits lmao.

CoD MWIII will be No. 27 if you count Addons, warzone and mobile as their own entries
29 if you take the two remasters into consideration
20 if you leave out DLC standalones, mobile and warzone
It started with CoD 1 in Nov 2003 so you basically have a new CoD title every 8 months
