The fact that the PS3 version never bothered adding actual shooter controls despite the game playing just like any other shooter always bothered me.

It is obviously not as good as the mainline games, the story in particular lacks the typical insanity. Boss battles are just robots which I remember being super disappointed about.

Excellent and a true "mainline" part of the series especially in light of MGSV, though it does have some of the grind you'll see in the portable games or MGSV if you want to unlock everything in the "post game" but its not all bad.
Definitely play the HD remasters, the original portables are encumbered by the controls among other features but the X360/PS3 versions are worthwhile and emulate well last I checked. Of course, when the Master Collection comes out that version should be best I imagine.

It's an excellent portable game, perhaps one of the greatests. MGSV would have been an actual masterpiece if it had simply taken PW as a blueprint and expanded its scope to a console experience.
Story kinda sucks except for the ending (even the the themes it touches are good and weirdy non-convoluted). Characters are very cool except for Hotcoffe man. I actually liked the mechanized battles a lot, they have a lot of untapped potential, again being a handheld game gives us just a glimpse of what could the with a bigger budget.
It's animated in the introduction cutscene but static for the rest of the game, even when it would make sense to be animated. The intro is in-game visuals as well, so it's not like there was special detail for a pre-rendered thing.

It's pretty much the same as going lethal except for the very end. After dumping 50 warheads from RPG into it, the driver will pop out so that you can tranq him and fulton the vechicle.
PW bossfights suck but I kinda wish this partially carried over into MGSV. Like having to first destroy tank's tracks before fultoning it. Being able to eliminate any armored vechicle by sneaking behind it and holding E for a second was lame and I always used C4 instead.
Honestly not sure, but then again didn't PW HD also have a whole cryptid mission sub section on behalf of Huey? Including stuff like the Ogopogo and (known in Japan but not well in the US) Tsuchinoko (aka the big giant fat snake that changes size, can bite its tail and roll around in a wheel etc)

My theory is that Kojima originally wanted to make a separate version of the game for the PS3 but Konami didn't let him and Bluepoint making the HD collection based on the original versions killed the idea even more.

I freaking love Peace Walker, the story, the characters, and think that the game is better than Snake Eater in a lot of aspects but I cannot shake off the feeling that it could have been way better if they made it on PS3. I would love to see a full remake with all the cut content

Peace Walker is pretty dark in terms of it's subject matter, it just has a sort of swashbuckling tone that's kind of at odds with that.
Iirc our intro to Chico in both it and GZ is in the context of him having recently been tortured. And Pacifica Ocean is just a Cipher puppet.
Yeah, but MGSV literally has Paz getting raped by guards, Chico being forced to "rape" her (she condones it but only under duress,) her having a bomb implanted in her stomach and in her vegana, Strangelove being locked in a box and suffocating to death and her remains being found years later, Quiet nearly being raped, getting tortured by Venom, etc. etc. I mean it's just constant, especially with any female characters -- not coming from a woke angle, Kojima just seemed to feel like they were particularly vulnerable or something and so brought out the edge even more.
Peace Walker is genuinely the 2nd Best of the series, you can easily only play MGS3 & MGS PW and you would be satisfied.

I'm actually playing it. I bought a PSP go just for this game and then they cancelled the entire thing so I never really got into it, now that I'm playing on PC it just feels OK but the upgrade system is shit tier honestly, like what a fricking shitty thing to do.

Bosses were really fun, fast, dynamic, and forced you to make careful decisions. You were forced to be careful in not destroying certain parts in order to obtain them or go full Rambo and get the boards instead which was great. Cute Hatsune Miku vocaloid voices gave them charm.

It doesn't really matter in the long run because the story (despite being really good) didn't matter all that much despite the fact that Kojima originally said back in 2006 that it was going to have a big impact on the plot in MGS4. morons say that it's noncanon simply because Hideo didn't write it. As you can see it's exactly the same as it was back when Kojima was still in Konami, nothing has changed, these are the "canon" games, everything else is either soft canon or not canon.

Kojima called PW MGS 5, Konami made him remove the 5 since they didn't want a numbered entry being on a mobile console, and Kojima went out of his way in interviews to clarify MGS V isn't MGS 5, the V stands for Victory/Vengeance/Venom, MGS PW is the fifth game, MGSV is the sixth.

MGSV is basically a spinoff anti-Metal Gear game and more of a meta setpiece like MGS2 than a game that's actually important to the timeline.

No, that's almost certainly 100% UnrealEgine 5, that's what Konami PES team switched to, Bloober is also remaking SH2 in UE5 too, and it makes sense for the whole company to switch to the same engine.
Not that it's a bad thing, UE5 is far more diverse than UE4 was so there aren't any more limitations of all the games looking exactly the same.
Fox Engine was abandoned since it hadn't been updated in who knows how long and it's extremely outdated, not deisigned for modern consoles, the reason why the Trailer didn't have the UE logo was because the Trailer was CG and not actually running on UE, once we have a "gameplay" trailer it will be confirmed

Because Kojima, the creator of the MGS franchise, realized that Big Boss is a far better protagonist than Solid Snake and his story is more entertaining.
Literally, no one thinks that. Big Boss was boring af in Snake Eater and was mostly carried by his relationship with the boss. He only got more charisma and personality in Portable Ops and Peace Walker. Solid Snake is a way more interesting, complicated, philosophical, and charismatic character and the modern setting he stars in is way more interesting and allows for way more possibilities than the boring boomer 60s to 80s war setting from Big Boss's saga. Solid Snake has a clear understanding that there's nothing like "honor", "heroes", or "pride" in war and murder. He knew that legends are dangerous because they infect people who create their own idealized image of certain people and start believing in moronic ideologies that they don't even understand which causes them to become the same psychopaths like people in the past and make the world a worse place. Solid Snake never saw himself as a hero, he just did what he saw as necessary to fix the mess that his "father" and all the other people in the past have left behind. He didn't try to make the world a better place by being seen as a hero, he didn't try to create his own army or sect, and he didn't hide behind any kind of flimsy and hypocritical ideology. Solid Snake's mentality that "There are no heroes on the battlefield" and "Future of the world must be left to the new generation" is way more honest and inspiring than anything Big Boss believed in. The only reason why Kojima kept making Big Boss's prequels was due to the fact that Konami forced him to Metal Gear games forever even though Solid Snake's saga already ended in 2008.

I like the game, but I´m really not a fan of the whole mission format, it feels like it conflicts with how the main plot is structured. Also I much preffer the solo sneaking structure from the early games where you are on your own most of the time and have to get your own weapons, it wasn´t until MGS4 where it started to deviate with you obtainig weapons and equipment with the shop and later PW where you start to get direct support from your base.

Excellent and a true "mainline" part of the series especially in light of MGSV, though it does have some of the grind you'll see in the portable games or MGSV if you want to unlock everything in the "post game" but its not all bad.
Definitely play the HD remasters, the original portables are encumbered by the controls among other features but the X360/PS3 versions are worthwhile and emulate well last I checked. Of course, when the Master Collection comes out that version should be best I imagine.

It's an excellent portable game, perhaps one of the greatests. MGSV would have been an actual masterpiece if it had simply taken PW as a blueprint and expanded its scope to a console experience.
Story kinda sucks except for the ending (even the the themes it touches are good and weirdy non-convoluted). Characters are very cool except for Hotcoffe man. I actually liked the mechanized battles a lot, they have a lot of untapped potential, again being a handheld game gives us just a glimpse of what could the with a bigger budget.
Overall this is MGS5. V is a weird epilogue.

Something about Big Boss's face in this game freaks me out. It looks like a mask of him, rather than his actual face.
It's animated in the introduction cutscene but static for the rest of the game, even when it would make sense to be animated. The intro is in-game visuals as well, so it's not like there was special detail for a pre-rendered thing.

It's pretty much the same as going lethal except for the very end. After dumping 50 warheads from RPG into it, the driver will pop out so that you can tranq him and fulton the vechicle.

PW bossfights suck but I kinda wish this partially carried over into MGSV. Like having to first destroy tank's tracks before fultoning it. Being able to eliminate any armored vechicle by sneaking behind it and holding E for a second was lame and I always used C4 instead.
You can nonlethal without damaging the vehicles by incapacitating all the patrols without being detected. It's really gay and boring.
The nonlethal route for the vehicle battles are a slog and not fun.

Kojima is a genius. It's insane how much content and quality visuals they managed to include in this one small PSP game. It really shows that no matter how technologically limited the console is, as long as the creators are skilled they can work around those limits and make something amazing. I think that Kojima already confirmed it to be canon. It doesn't really matter in the long run because the story (despite being really good) didn't matter all that much despite the fact that Kojima originally said back in 2006 that it was going to have a big impact on the plot in MGS4. morons say that it's noncanon simply because Hideo didn't write it. Same thing with Rising.

PW is the perfect bridge from MGS 3 to MG1/MG2, and also the perfect bridge from MGS3 to MGS4, by the end of PE Big Boss character arc is completed, he's accepted The Boss' death, he's created proto Outer Heaven, he has a nuke, his own Metal Gear technology, is paranoid about the US sending someone to kill him, has a child soldier in his army, and has decided to start doing wetwork.
It's non-canon but it did give us the first real hint that Zero was going to be an antagonist in 4 and V at the end. I think Ocelot says something like the guy with the same codename as Null (ie Zero)

Because Kojima, the creator of the MGS franchise, realized that Big Boss is a far better protagonist than Solid Snake and his story is more entertaining.
Literally, no one thinks that. Big Boss was boring af in Snake Eater and was mostly carried by his relationship with the boss. He only got more charisma and personality in Portable Ops and Peace Walker. Solid Snake is a way more interesting, complicated, philosophical, and charismatic character and the modern setting he stars in is way more interesting and allows for way more possibilities than the boring boomer 60s to 80s war setting from Big Boss's saga. Solid Snake has a clear understanding that there's nothing like "honor", "heroes", or "pride" in war and murder. He knew that legends are dangerous because they infect people who create their own idealized image of certain people and start believing in moronic ideologies that they don't even understand which causes them to become the same psychopaths like people in the past and make the world a worse place. Solid Snake never saw himself as a hero, he just did what he saw as necessary to fix the mess that his "father" and all the other people in the past have left behind. He didn't try to make the world a better place by being seen as a hero, he didn't try to create his own army or sect, and he didn't hide behind any kind of flimsy and hypocritical ideology. Solid Snake's mentality that "There are no heroes on the battlefield" and "Future of the world must be left to the new generation" is way more honest and inspiring than anything Big Boss believed in. The only reason why Kojima kept making Big Boss's prequels was due to the fact that Konami forced him to Metal Gear games forever even though Solid Snake's saga already ended in 2008.

Worst torture sequence, hoping the Steam ports have an auto mash mod to save me the trouble of fiddling with it each time.
I like the game, but I´m really not a fan of the whole mission format, it feels like it conflicts with how the main plot is structured. Also I much preffer the solo sneaking structure from the early games where you are on your own most of the time and have to get your own weapons, it wasn´t until MGS4 where it started to deviate with you obtainig weapons and equipment with the shop and later PW where you start to get direct support from your base.
