>Dragon Quest 12 targeting adults is causing ‘a lot of trouble’ for Square Enix
>Wants to have "darker themes/tone"
>feature more meaningful choices
>Wants to change the classic combat we all know DQ for
>Dragon Quest XII Could Shape The Next "10 To 20 Years" Of The Series (aka to chase the western money and change the franchise forever if it's a success}
Keep in mind the "darker themes" here refers to specifically the western idea of dark themes, see the recent FF16 for example, since DQ has always had dark and adult themes throughout it's games but would just seem to be a lighter tone due to it's artstyle and generally bright colors
And we all know they're wanting to change this for the Western market since DQ in the Western markets has been pretty much untapped throughout it's franchise history compared to their other big franchise in FF, and if that's at the expense of it's Japanese fanbase we will have to find out when it comes out
We do know for a fact FF16 sold less in Japan compared to the other Final Fantasy's and other Japanese game companies sales capitalize on the Western sales for their own games. So you can't really blame them for not wanting to put one of the most historic franchise out there and try to make it more known in other parts of the world
But for it to be Dragon Quest and to change on what made the franchise itself so legendary and revered in Japan but also possibly alienate their own audience? Doesn't feel right one bit to me

take your western rage bait boner somewhere else.
Weren't 6 and 7 a bit edgy compared to 5 and 8? Seems like pottery.
I dont see how 7 is any more or less edgy than 5.
>Oh guys, DQ is like. So boring, right? Basic b***h RPG, got to change it. So we are making it basic b***h action game, because we don't know what else to do.
I don't know how they don't see how this is going to blow up in their faces. They already had pushback when they tried to do the same shit with DQ9. Initial gameplay was like Zelda and they got death threats. No one plays DQ for it's gameplay. But sure, accelerate the continued collapse of this company, can't wait to see them sell off their various IPs to try to recoup losses after filing for bankruptcy.
2 more weeks
it will be the first interesting game in the series
Can't be any worse than what they've been doing.
some of the old dragon quest games were dark but in a light hearted way (DQV slavery etc...) so if it's like that then I'm keen
>Japanese game companies sales capitalize on the Western sales for their own games
Yeah, but they buy those games BECAUSE of the Japanese flavor these games have. Westernizing them would only hurt their sales like it did with FFXV/XVI.
If they want to sell DQ to westerners they need to fire the localisation team
Why is SE pissing away its on-brand advantages in the gaming market?
What kind of adult targeting are we talking about here?

They're going to show what really happened between martina and booga this time.
As long as It's with my self insert
You get to play as the Booga in this game and its about turning all the heroines into your Martinas.
Oh boy I can't wait for no casinos or bunny girls or fun monster designs as a result of them trying to be mature
Fuuuuuuuuuck global market chasing, when has that EVER resulted in a better game?
>Why is DQ12 taking so long?
>Adult themes are hard lol
It was a joke, you mongoloid
How many wives and concubines can I take?
"Darker themes" just for the sake of "darker themes" is never good. Think of a good fricking story and it happens to be edgy then so be it but having that in mind from the start is moronic.
He said that even people who play only turn based combat can play the new gameplay style without problems, only problem is the darker tones, DQ was never shy to anything, DQ6 for example has child Milly being sold into slavery and DQ5 the hero quest is fricked up, but deep down I know it will be "dark" like in FFXVI without any humor not like in older DQs, either way as a fan I personally couldn't care how it turns out because I think that DQXI was a good point to end the series.
If is good, more DQ for me, if is bad, DQXI was the final of one.
I can't really give an opinion until we actually see the game beyond a logo. The problem with maturity as it relates to media is that everyone has their own idea of what entails maturity. It can mean anything from simply involving more serious themes/commentary to something more shallow like characters saying "FRICK" every few sentences.
>feature more meaningful choices
That is honestly one thing I hope we see in more Square games, honestly. More meaningful choice as RPGs would be a far better way to "modernize" FF or DQ than trying to turn them into action games.
This will never be a thing in video games. Partly because the game would have to be too big, it will always circle back around to you having 'chosen' to fight the big bad.
Mostly because people feel like they should have access to all content without multiple playthroughs and devs are scared of denying players anything
Meaningful choice doesn't have to mean "completely change the main scenarior/who the big bad is" though.
Having multiple ways to get towards that end is meaningful choice.
Can't wait to play a DQ game with a new, innovative combat system where you mash a button to do auto attacks and fill up a gauge that then slows time if you want to use a skill or an item. SE are so innovative and great at game design and they did such a great job with modern Final Fantasy, it really was about time for them to finally bring those geniuses on board to save Dragon Quest and bring it into the modern era of gaming.
Lets be real if the FF7Remake battle system became the standard for all RPGs going forward it would only be an boon for the genre.
I like FF7R's combat but frick that. The genre needs more variety, not less.
>darker themes
Finally NTR is back on the menu boys
Yoyo was worst girl in Bahamut Lagoon anyway, Mist was best girl by MILES. So dumb she's a "hidden" character so she doesn't get the play in the story she deserves(ie getting with Byuu at the end of the game while Yoyo lives alone with Alexander REEE'ing rent free in her head to destroy everything for eternity)
just pull a relink add coop and see how dq blows up even more

so what you're saying is it will only affect the very next game
