I agree with this to a degree though. Its looked a lot better black/darker purple. I still love Gengar but it definitely doesn't look as cool as it used to.
What's funny is that the anime kept the classic Gengar colors even into Journeys, right up until Ash's Gengar appeared. But he was the only Gengar we saw since then so it looks more like Ash caught some weird off-color Gengar.

I will shit on gen 1 mons for the exact same reason but I completely disagree. It's a memorable design. There's a reason no one remembers something like voltorb or similarly basic designs
i know its fake but i can't help but wonder why they didn't increase the size of the knuckles because all this does is make it look like their thumb got stung by a bee.
there's not enough finger behind the switch for this to work from an anatomic point of view because at that size the hand wouldn't be flexible enough.
not to mention the switch is fricking massive when in most people's hands joycons look like pathetic little toys. that'd have to be the world's biggest joycon or the world's fattest 2 year old.

Gen 1 mons were so good, they launched this franchise and beat out other monster catchers like Digimon and Tomogatchi
