Kinda agree with that, 2 drags on a bit at the start and breaks from the action for far too long.
If I had to cut together 2+Episodes into the kind of game I'd actually enjoy, I'd cut the following.
HL2: >Shrink kliners lab section substantially >Cut half the airboat section without the gun >Burn black mesa east and have it drop you right into ravenholm shortly after arriving >Cut ALL of highway 17, frick this section, frick the buggy, frick constantly stopping to unfrick your path, frick the antlions, frick the crane section, literally learned how to ABH just to skip this section >Leave the city fight mostly the same >Let the player keep their guns for the last section with the juiced up grav gun
E1: >Skip the citadel section >Jump right to the underground elevator fight >That's pretty much it
E2: >Skip 90% of the underground section at the start except the bit where you have to race against the antlion to get the pheromones >Cut all the roadblocks between you and black forest
E2 has a major break in the action when you get to black forest . Doesn't bother me though . I love the narrative of the games and its a major reason I played through them
In all honesty, I think my issue was with the length of some breaks in base HL2 and where they're placed.
It never really feels like you NEED a break from the action, or at least not one long enough to justify the length of some of the story segments.
My thoughts are it’s made by known scammers who commit false advertising and fraud.
Valve screwed over the Artifact fanbase by cancelling the Artifact 2.0 beta without even allowing users to invite friends like they said they would in January 2021 and does not deserve your financial support for these gross consumer-unfriendly practices.
>HL1
great >Blue Shift
decent >Opposing Force
amazing >Decay
no friends so can't say >Uplink
decent >HL2
utter garbage >EP1
utter garbage >EP2
utter garbage >Alyx
vr shovelware >HL2 beta
based as frick
>>HL2 beta >based as frick
It was all somewhat good until this. Beta looked painfully generic, it would've been Doom 3 tier if it was actually released instead.
>Doom 3 tier
Have you played any of the HL2 mods that try to recreate the beta? They're really good. The one thing I would've changed is the manhack minigame as that sounds downright moronic.
Will we ever really find out what stopped development of episode 3? I mean obviously development was already started when Ep2 released so what was the decision/catalyst to give up on Valves signature game ?
Not that anon, but the leaked epistle 3 plot Laidlaw put out a while ago was absolute hot drizzling dogshit and would've likely gone down as one of the worst endings to a game series ever.
Considering HL:Alyx retconned everything that happened in the ending of EP2, as lazy as it was, I find it the most plausible explanation that Valve realized they wrote themselves into a corner they couldn't dig themselves out of there.
It got left on the backburner and had a skeleton crew doing some work on it all the way up until 2011. Portal's reception took them by surprise which made a lot of people want to work on a follow-up to it instead. The real death knell though was Valve buying out Turtle Rock and putting all hands on deck to help finish Left 4 Dead, and then right after crunching out a "sequel" within a year which burn out a lot of people.
Anyone play the vr mod? It felt like experiencing the game for the first time again. The beginning segments felt far more dystopian because of the perspective. When I walked out into the courtyard with the fountain and tower, fug it was mind blowing. Really gives you a sense of how fricked Earth is at this point.
Half Life 2 sucks. Ep 1, 2 and the original Half Life are all good though.
Except E1 is worse than HL2, you dummy
Episode 1 is better by the sole virtue of being shorter.
I occasionally replay HL2 by starting at chapter 3 and quitting at Black Mesa East or right after Ravenholm. I never replay E1

If it was a dream then how do I have 0.1 hours on it on steam? (Didn't capture my attention)
i dont get your image op

Zoomer detected.
>Zoomer
wrong
The original is one of my all-time favorites

Gabe needed to harvest massive amounts of disappointment and rage to power his adrenochrome generator.
It was trash and they made money from thier store and gaas garbage (csgo and Dota 2). They don't have good devs for regular video games.
>It was trash
Is there any actual evidence of this?

Both are my favorite games
Black Mesa was actually bretty gud
I wish, then we wouldn't have had cinematic shit infiltrate so early on
Cinematic shit infiltrated the industry after the release of FFVII
Lmao you dumb fricking Black person. HL started off the cinematic bullshit we see today. JRPGS just had narrative parts, nothing cinematic about them
>narrative mostly delivered non interactive pre-rendered cutscenes is not cinematic
lol
Correct. Learn the difference, seething Black person
Barney was the biggest chad in the series. Imagine a scene where he is confronted by the G-man and just tells him to go frick himself.
hl2 predicted the 15 minute city.

Fully modeled
this would be a really lazy ending and terrible ending for the franchise
since we'll never have a conclusion then who cares
