Maybe it's been too long. But if not for the loading times I would replay the MP3 Hoboken part once a year. Rockstar does do an incredible job for enemy dialogue and quips. I used to be obsessed with Manhunt because of the atmosphere and gang dialogue.
>The first 2 games actually look like the developer put effort into creating a good and memorable artstyle
All they did is use photographs for every single texture in the game.
The only substantial mods I saw of MP2 was a mod called Max Payne Chronicles the Mona one, and the Max Payne 3 inpired one.
The first one is just a side story of Max doing cop stuff. Looking for a captured woman in a slaughter house.
First two levels are kinda crappy, but the third level is a really long gauntlet through said slaughter house. The weapon balance is probably it's greatest strength. It uses a lot of gameplay scenarios within the level design and that causes you to care about which gun your holding. Rooms with enemies at long range will need the AK, long hallways will need the Deagle, up close encounters will need the shotgun or machine guns depending on enemy numbers etc. I highly recommend it.
The Mona one was supposedly developed by an ex-Remedy employee. They're not amazing levels but it's a relatively well made map pack.
The Max Payne 3 one is pretty neat in concept and execution is really really impressive. But it's a bit buggy and it's in a weird uncanny valley of quality where the increased fidelity max model really doesnt fit in the environments of 2.
I've never heard of Hall of Mirrors before, but I'm pretty hungry for more Max Payne mods.
Man On Fire homage which did it as a homage to older films.
?t=2
This isn't exactly what you're talking about, but other parts of the film do that overexposed image stuff just like MP3. MP3 just combines adding text on screen + that image coloring.
It's a shame to note that later editions of Man On Fire have removed the text on screen stuff.
Interesting. After reading the synopsis it makes me feel even more embarrassed for Housers and MP3. Can't those hacks come up with anything original?
I think it had good ideas, but good ideas aren't enough to make something stand the test of time; >Max getting older, getting sloppy >Due to sloppiness, ends up in a soup he was blind to >Has to ante the frick up and kick ass >But torn between doing the right thing by teaming up with a cop who is a younger version of himself and just killing everyone >Not about Max's love life - he helps his bodyguard colleague and his girlfriend get out of town alive
I think my favorite part of the game is when the bodyguard friend and his girlfriend leave, and his parting words to Max are >Life is worth living
And Max kind of smirks and says >If you say so
That's the essence of MP3 for me, but they didn't build the game around this essence. They were sitting on the ip for years and threw something together. MGS4 has a similar theme and it lands a little better. All that said I still enjoy MP3's gameplay.
Great game. The sleepless revenge spree across the New York city night during a severe blizzard was a fantastic and surreal setting. The game managed to make bleak drug dens, gangster hideouts, and seedy hotel rooms into a sort of refuge from the storm raging outside. Such a wonderful atmosphere and setting.
Fricking brilliant at the time. Now, I don't think it would register an inkling of interest. Too narrative driven. Hell, I loved MP3, but most people shit on it. Scared 'em all away. It was the last time Rockstar took a chance with a polarizing story.
Looks like we're getting a MP1/2 indie game on Steam, but with demons. Similar graphics too and heavily narrative/mystery/noir driven. The main character narrates the story.
I liked it more than X!!!.
It is weird my capital ones are exclamation marks.
cool game
Despite playing it for years I still cannot force myself to not savescum. Great fricking game too, I love my berettas
2 > 1 > > > > 3
This
This anon is gay. Everyone laugh at him.
It's objectively 1>3>2, doe.
this first anon is correct, its 2>1>3 albeit, however i don't think 3 is objective dogshit.
Never played it so going to assume it's a troony game and call it LGBTIQP+ propaganda
Most of the best games ever are troony games.
Played it for the first time recently it's pretty difficult but so so good
>it's pretty difficult
That difficulty goes down significantly once you're familiar with the stages and enemy placement.
Max! Dearest of all my friends!
max payne 3 is the only good one, graphics look like shit in the other ones
The first 2 games actually look like the developer put effort into creating a good and memorable artstyle instead of Unreal Payne 3: The Engineing.
You can say a lot of bad things about Max Payne 3 but if you're saying it doesn't have a distinct style you're crazy.
There is nothing memorable about Max Payne 3 besides the flashback scene where you play Max Payne 2.
Frick I meant to reply to the mp2 flashback
You dont play any max payne 2 flashbacks in 3.
You mean the 2 flashbacks where max is
Still in hoboken?

"YOU KILLED MY SON. NOW DIG YOUR OWN GRAVE."

IT'S PAYNE! WHACK HIM!
that recent video fricking sucked wiener, what was the point of it AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
1 > 2 > 3 gang
if 3 wasn't so self-indulgent with its """story""", it'd be after 1.
*dives from behind a corner and shoots you in slow motion*

Why does he look like he's sitting his pants on every photo from every game?
>sitting his pants
>sitting his pants
Best third person shooter ever.
Best non exclusive console game of 2001, alongside Pro Skater 3.
I enjoyed max payne 1 and 2
I wish I could play them easily without having to flash my fricking bios or whatever the frick insane shit it wants
Honestly Max Payne 2 is better than 1 solely because of the ragdoll physics. 3 has the best gameplay though.
bullet time had me like whoa
DONG DING DONG
MP2 mods are so fricking based
Not always... balanced or well made, but fun as frick
Did anyone else do Hall of Mirrors / that other Equilibrium-based mod?

>He doesn't know
1 has better story, 2 is more fun and has nude Mona, 3 is shit in all aspects.
What the frick was with highlighting those random words?

Yes, I will absolutely admit MP3's story was excruciatingly derivative
I think it had good ideas, but good ideas aren't enough to make something stand the test of time;

I really liked the look of his advanced aging from alcohol abuse. His face was drooping
Great game. The sleepless revenge spree across the New York city night during a severe blizzard was a fantastic and surreal setting. one of the games of all time
Anyone else aware of El Paso, Elsewhere?
Looks like we're getting a MP1/2 indie game on Steam, but with demons. Similar graphics too and heavily narrative/mystery/noir driven. The main character narrates the story.
You cowa her bunga
the only good thing that came out of mp3 is that you could kill favela monkey
ngl that was my favorite segment in MP3. This is coming from a MP3 fan.
Love it, can't wait for the remake so I can play it for the first time.
I had a dream of my wife
she was turning humans into glue
