Really cool. Before wikis and everything they were a nice little read to find out where certain characters or items came from. The renders are beautiful too. Cool to see Gamecube-era renders of characters which never got a proper game during that time. Lots of unique interpretations of NES characters which have now had modern redesigns.
>shame it looks like knockoff Disney garbage
No.
It looks like a character on Doug. More specifically, a superhero Doug would imagine himself as being.
They were great even if they looked like mid-90's 3D renders. Actually, this was part of the charm and most trophies in the next games were really boring.
Loved them. They were fun to unlock, fun to read the descriptions, and I loved how you can zoom in and rotate them like a model viewer. I can't believe they don't have them in the newer smash games.
They're fantastic. Most weren't just model ports from pre-existing games, they had be to created from the ground up and designs were reinterpreted often which gives them their own identity. Later Smash games just had assets ripped elsewhere.
It sucks knowing that Nintendo will never but in this much extra effort into a Smash Bros game again. I tried playing the new one but it was just so bland and there’s nothing to really do in single player other than the shitty adventure mode.
These were awesome, and it's a shame they got rid of them for stickers in Ultimate. Looking at all the models, and reading about all the obscure characters in an age pre-atistic wiki was a lot of fun. Also used to try and look up all the girls' skirts.
The only 3D Kirby game at the time was Crystal Shards, which >1. was likely in development alongside with Melee rather than already being complete for reference along with stuff like Mario 64 or OoT >2. wasn't developed by Sakurai and was instead a Shimomura Dark Matter title, so he wasn't very involved with it to begin with >3. a lot of the Kirby characters that got trophies, like Meta Knight, Rick, and Gooey, weren't even in 64 or would have proper 3D renders until much later
So they were pretty much going entirely off of the few art pieces that existed prior for the SNES games. Although, the Meta Knight trophy is interesting because it was the first time Meta Knight's sword was ever given prongs, which wouldn't be official until Air Ride two years later. Pretty cool considering Air Ride had been in development for the 64 and the design change had probably already been made for the original 64 title.
>doesn't look like Mach Rider at all & the bike is completely different
Soulful. On one hand it bothers my autism that this design is not accurate but on the other hand I like the widely different interpretations of this era, compared to just asset reuse nowadays
Always wanted to own them physically, I think that's what amiibo is.
I love them. I loved reading all the descriptions and zooming in, appreciating their details
Beautifully rendered. Amiibos were cheap, ugly shit.
I never did unlock Diskun. I should get to that.
Nice and shiny
Could look up a few skirts iirc
They were neat at the time, but not necessary today since we have wiki sites for everything now.
Frick having to reference content outside of the game.
I would rather buy a used copy of Melee in current year than have to use a FANDOM wiki

This pit looks more timeless than modern Pit, who's basically a 2000's anime design.
>This pit looks more timeless than modern Pit,
shame it looks like knockoff Disney garbage
should have been more closer to pre-80s japanese cartoons like anything by Tezuka
>shame it looks like knockoff Disney garbage
No.

You really like the show Doug.
>It looks like a character on Doug.
which is also Disney garbage?
Doug was Nickelodeon.
Disney bought that shit in its later season or two and it ran on abc
Its certainly timeless, you could put this model in any time period and everyone around would tell you its shit
They were great even if they looked like mid-90's 3D renders. Actually, this was part of the charm and most trophies in the next games were really boring.
starting from brawl, trophies are just models grabbed from other games, the nice thing about melee trophies is that most were custom made
Not all of them, but probably most of them, yeah.
This was from a ds game so they probably just ripped it from thr promo models when advertising hunters.
Loved them. They were fun to unlock, fun to read the descriptions, and I loved how you can zoom in and rotate them like a model viewer. I can't believe they don't have them in the newer smash games.
Still the best depiction of Samus.
>no combover
barf
Better than all 3 Prime games at least
Always got a funny feeling looking at Ayame's trophy
They're wonderful
I was going to ask if Melee was the first game to include a 3D gallery mode, but then I remembered Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories had this feature too.
They're fantastic. Most weren't just model ports from pre-existing games, they had be to created from the ground up and designs were reinterpreted often which gives them their own identity. Later Smash games just had assets ripped elsewhere.
That trophy background with the bubbles and shit invokes such a weird and specific feeling of my adolescent years. Melee was a lot of fun.
I just realized I meant evoke. I'm dumb as hell. But I still like the trophies and gameplay of melee.

I would be fine if they took the spirits from the new game and gave them trophy like descriptions. Its neat seeing collections of official art pieces.
it'd be ruined b NoA treehouse like with the last game, ridden with Gen X-er humor
You say that as if Nintendo ever developed any Smash Bros game to begin with.
>roster of 90 characters
>no effort
Also Nintendo never developed Smash in the first place you fricking mongoloid contrarian
>90 noname anime clone characters
Pffffthahaha
All the characters are video-game originals. Play the game.
Sora can go back to Deviantart, though.
Toddler shite

>still the best 3D rendered feet
how did they do it?
Butterface Marin
Not retro but Hyrule Warriors render is beautiful.
Forgot pic because retar
And Simons Ultimate render is godly. Look at this fricking thing.
Why do the Kirby Trophies look so uncanny? I guess they weren't use to modeling them.
I think some might have been rushed
>just turbosmooth my shit up senpai

pretty cool
its fricking over for humans
AI is capable of designs 10 times more soulful than modern developers
It's amazing how many of these could be salvageable as component designs.
How were these made, something like Looking Glass / ruDALL-E?
looking glass
There she is!
