Without Kaneko the franchise is doomed.
SMT IV was the last game that had his involvement (wrote the story concept), everything afterwards is soulless.
These.
I already gave up though, so it doesn't bother me anymore.
SMTV will be 2 years old this year. You missed the threads and memes. It's your own fault. Also IV did not have constant new memes made after a year. It was just the same memes posted over and over. And don't pretend it wasn't mostly Hoy posting.
what memes did v even get besides haha porn i want to frick the twink
V is incredibly, good probably my favorite Megaten game. P5 is rock solid, really glad it returned demons. SH2 is a train wreck but I appreciate Atlus still tries to do something different. Refantasy looks interesting and remaking Persona 3 is moronic.
Personally I think it has a good story. It's strange and esoteric but it captures the feeling of participating in a creation myth, and respects the player to come to their own conclusions. When I think of a bad story I think of IVA, a game that is tone deaf to Megaten as a series and is dreadfully obtrusive about it with lots of forced friendship hijinks even on the genocide path.
A downgrade from the 3DS era, discounting TMS since it's a Wii U game. The Mainline crew and the Careersoft staff have been consistently fumbling the ball this generation.
V is objectively the best game, but IV is the better experience. V has a genius world, a real 3d experience, were you have to actually think in 3d space to traverse. SMTIV had the amazing transition from the kingdom of Mikado to Tokyo, the whole mystery and confusion of the situation, and the best party in all of SMT: israelitefro, hoy and weebwaifu.
Without Kaneko the franchise is doomed.
SMT IV was the last game that had his involvement (wrote the story concept), everything afterwards is soulless.
If V sold so well and is so well liked and some even think it's a better direction since IV and feels more like megaten, where is the support? There is the DLC? Where is the port? Where is literally anything? What the hell is going on at Atlus?
It already got dlc demons and the fiend scenario. It's a single player jrpg, I don't know what more you expect from it.
Would be nice to get it on PC too though.
I hate how accurate this statement is. Seeing Re:Fantasy have the trademark calendar and social link systems fills me with nothing but dread for its future. I get why they exist in Persona, but even in their home games they're pace breakers, I don't want to imagine how bad they'll end up being in a game like Re:Fantasy.

SMTV is a good aesthetic too. There was so much more you could do with the setting as well. I don't want it to get dumpstered because Atlus is desperate to sell games and the only game that sold millions for them was Persona 5.

I agree. SMTV could benefit from either a Maniax or an Apocalypse because either way you look at it the story is undercooked and whether you just refocus and tackle it again or go at it from another perspective entirely, there's still quite a bit to do with it.
My bet, which has been so from the start, is that they'd go for another Apocalypse and that's predicated entirely on the fact that we never see Masakado and him and his Nahobeaner would be easy protagonist fodder. They could also work as the new route unlocker in a Maniax setting as well.

There is an entire quest that explains what happened to Masakado and you even get his sword at the end.

Guess I'm moronic, then. I never did get around to doing all the quests, I retract my statement.

I hate that "soul" caught on cause it kind of misses the point of what modern SMT lacks, that and annoying discord kids spamming the same stuff. It more an actual understanding of the themes and concepts it is playing with. 1-3/SJ aren't deep and really suffer from some of the same issues as modern SMT like flat characters. Its just that everything serves a purpose in building an atmosphere or contributing ti the overall point. is right, V has a strong aesthetic and is rich in concept. It just doesn't feel like they had much idea where to take it. You're left wondering if there was a reason for something or it was just a cool design. Like people being b***hy about Amanozako design were silly, but she probably should've had an evolved design for a more complete story. Same with the whole beano concept. Its really neat and could be taken lots of ways but just sort of isn't. Really though the same applies to 4. Too much was lost in the planning stages and the combat is considerably more broken.
The rest doesn't even feel like its trying. There are so many ways you could do a paranormal investigation RPG which would be insanely interesting. I just don't think anyone their is particularly into this stuff now. I'd say its better they just make different things if that's their ambition. But it seems those become persona now.

That's what Devil Summoner was.

That's my point. There's a lot of ways to do that concept. The original 4 took the concept in different ways but were clearly made with an interest in the subject. Even if the game part isn't too great. SH2 is kind of the opposite, fun combat but everything else is paint by numbers at best. Doesn't come off like anyone had a strong vision for it outside can we make this more appealing to the general otaku audience.

Allegedly some Atlus staff adviced to not release it as is because they felt it was not Soul Hackers or MegaTen at all, to which Ishida replied that it's not Megami Tensei, it's it own thing separate. That should tell you everything.
Every game after Persona 5 that isn't a remake or spinoff is a fricking P5-alike, with the exception of SMTV, probably because people would riot if they made it like P5 too.
P3R copies P5's style, even Metaphor is just P5 with a different coat of paint and without the Megaten demons
Half of those are literally inspired by persona, to a point I don't even understand why they were sold as smt games considering the persona name would make them sell more
>without sounding like a shill.
With the way some of the homosexuals here act giving any bit of praise makes you a shill. But the game's combat is solid and fights aren't drawn out like in some JRPGs, the characters are likeable and well acted, the story kept me interested, and the few music tracks the game had were great. The game isn't anything amazing but it's far better than people give it credit for and I'd definitely rank it as good, though not great.

SMT4A was good. The Stephen boss fight in the DLC was pure fanservice bullshit, but it was unironically the most kino thing they’ve done in years. After that, they lost it. No idea what they were thinking with V. Shit designs. Shit story. Tokyo unironically felt bigger in 4 even though V was technically an open world game. Meme Hackers 2 was forgettable. Not sure what to think about with Metaphor yet. Overall, they just need better writers, which is kind of funny because I know hardcore SMT gays were shitting on SMT4A for a long ass time because of the power of friendship bullshit. But now looking back, it is now seen as good compared to how bad and forgettable V was
SMTV had some of the best gameplay in the series to date, shame that the story was absolute dogshit.
SMTV had a story...?
It did it's best not to. Sometimes it still did though, unfortunately
It has a skeleton for a story then they ran out of time.
SMT ended with Strange Journey, and that game isn’t even that good.
4, 4A, 5, etc. are all dogshit for trannies and Fatlus paypigs
These.
I already gave up though, so it doesn't bother me anymore.
>4 bad
Damn Strange Journey babies are moronic
4A is unironically the best SMT game
this except 4a is good
what memes did v even get besides haha porn i want to frick the twink
>what memes did v even get besides haha porn i want to frick the twink
Sounds like you're projecting.
is that your answer to the question
Feel free to stop being moronic any time.
V was good and it's understandable why it sold well heres hoping for a new expansion DLC
V is better than IV and I'm tired of pretending it's not.
It's not better than III, though.
Hasn’t made a truly great game since 2013
My thoughts on the Megami Tensei franchise?
I want to frick Nahobino
absolute trash except for tms
Needs SMT5B
V is incredibly, good probably my favorite Megaten game. P5 is rock solid, really glad it returned demons. SH2 is a train wreck but I appreciate Atlus still tries to do something different. Refantasy looks interesting and remaking Persona 3 is moronic.

When I think of a bad story I think of IVA, a game that is tone deaf to Megaten as a series and is dreadfully obtrusive about it with lots of forced friendship hijinks even on the genocide path.
People equivocate it having an unfinished story as having a bad story.
It's just unfinished, I enjoyed what was there and how it was presented.
I simply cannot put V's gameplay as the best because of the level scaling, IVA still has the best gameplay of the main series
Reminder that all video game and anime girls want to be with East Asian Men only.
hi chang
wonderful, just bitter gays can't enjoy V.
After the dust has settled, and censorship aside, is TMS any good?
probably the best modern RPG Atlus put out so far
I don't like saying mid, but it's the epitome of mid
Gameplay is phenomenal imo, story is meh but idgaf about that
It's awful. Don't listen to the people saying the gameplay is good. The gameplay is boring, braindead and repetitive. Don't bother with it.
Good gameplay, hit or miss soundtrack, garbage story. Worth the play personally.
not for me
i like shin megami tensei 4 but thats ten years old now
I never played a shin megami tensei game and i only played V because I thought the main character was cute.
Im trans btw
I am not, I'm above that
A downgrade from the 3DS era, discounting TMS since it's a Wii U game. The Mainline crew and the Careersoft staff have been consistently fumbling the ball this generation.
friendly reminder
>a bunch of mainstream normalgay shit
>no Paper Mario Thousand Year Door, no Digimon World 2, no Suikoden at all
frick off with your pleb opinions
its by year you frickin mong
literal low iq poster
>No Mad Rat Dead
Quite a sin
Why do you keep posting this garbage?

hello newbie
V is objectively the best game, but IV is the better experience. V has a genius world, a real 3d experience, were you have to actually think in 3d space to traverse. Tsubasa mating press (with the glasses)
Without Kaneko the franchise is doomed.
SMT IV was the last game that had his involvement (wrote the story concept), everything afterwards is soulless.
moron and/or fake fan
>fake fan for acknowledging the obvious
Kaneko was the soul of MegaTen.
Even Metaphor (which is basically not-MT) is a mess. Atlus has lost its way.
You're not wrong. Apocalypse and V had good aspects but failed to capture what SMT was really about. Persona also lost its way starting with 4.
kanekogays are real obnoxious tbh
He retired cause he hates his fanboys
They hated him because he spoke the truth.
V was the only one I liked and that fell apart once you hit Ueno.
Ringo is cute. CUTE!!!
If V sold so well and is so well liked and some even think it's a better direction since IV and feels more like megaten, where is the support? There is the DLC? Where is the port? Where is literally anything? What the hell is going on at Atlus?

IV and IVA got more content after release than V. V has no manga, no art book, no interviews, nothing.
The real difference is those came out before persona 5
And this once again cycles back to "what the hell is going on at Atlus?"
>what the hell is going on at Atlus?
Persona 5

I still want a NahoBeano and I'm made they never did a general release for it, I'd paypig the hell out of it
Get ready to check ebay then because they are giving out another 100 to the first people that line up to the smt concert at anime next.
somehow i had the nagging itch to play III while trying to enjoy V, idk why.
BRING BACK KANEKO
when are they gonna crack SOulHacker?????
Shitty platformer to collect player power. Due to hard level scaling; this is the only RPG mechanic.
What’s wrong with black frost
He's a Black person
To this day I'd rather get persona fantasy than the fricking disaster that was #fe. I liked KAWASHITAI but god dammit I really wanted SMT fire-emblem
SMT peaked with SJ
I wanna frick Ringo
Those eyes promise to cuck the shit out of you. I hope you like chastity cages.
she can frick anything as long as I get a turn
Play their fricking game
3 > 5 > 4A > 4 for the 3D titles
Frick Chiyoda but other than that 5 is excellent

I still havent beat Demifiend
Soul Hackers 2 is good
I wish anon, I wish. The fact that it's uglier and less fun than TMS is really something
Bullshit. I tried TMS twice, on Wii U and Switch and I dropped it both times because it's a boring slog.
No pretending. It's a good game.
Explain why SH2 is a good game without sounding like a shill.
>without sounding like a shill.

Evenhanded assessment of SH2. It's underrated.
anon, its been months now. you don't have to pretend anymore to like it.
I want to shoot ropes all over Tsubasa's huge breasts.
Hey loser, why don't you play a real Sheen Megaman Tenshi, like Jack Bros. for the Virtual Boy?
>Make level scaling less harsh
>Make Knowledge of Tools a skill instead of a miracle
There I fixed V
0 threads 0 relevance. This is the legacy of V.
IV used to get so many threads and memes here on Ganker, it was a flawed but ultimately fun experience.
V was hot trash and was forgotten in 2 months.

I only play these games for sexy twinks.
real men don't play homosexual chinese games
I just play these games for sexy twinks. Helps the gameplay is good.
The only good SMT is Devil Survivor
soul hackers 2 is a real megaten game and ringo is a real megaten girl
