They typically get paid just for making a video worth clicking on instead of for making a shit game get a positive review. This could lead to really clickbait obnoxious videos, but they wouldn't have an incentive to lie typically other than just having shit taste in games.
>they wouldn't have an incentive to lie
If someone has over 10k subscribers and theyre playing a game before its generally available, they were paid to play it. And the only way to keep getting paid to play games early is to talk about how great they are.
Its not a coincidence that every homosexual streamer loves every single new game that comes out.
While you should never openly trust anyone, Billy Twobumfrick with 1800 subs isn't getting Nintendo money anon.
In other words, just ignore any large channels if you want actual opinions.
And also ignore all opinions that aren't about the gameplay, of course. No one givews a frick about how high res something is if plays like it was coded by drunken snakes.
When subhuman journos say they want easy mode they talk about this The journo in question proceeded to call the combat shit while playing in subhuman journo mode
The Cuphead one doesn't work all that well because the guy that did this moronic shit isn't actually a video game reviewer just a homosexual tech bro ass eater that wrote a handful of first impressions articles about games. The DOOM video is by an "official, expert video game journalist"
He may be moronic but that shows integrity, mass effect was hot shit and he gave it a bad review. He then went back and made an embarrassing update when he recognized he was in the wrong. Sure it's very dumb but that's a lot more integrity than most.
Even the shittiest boomer shooters on the N64 were smoother than that. The only way you have reactions like that is if you haven't played games for 10+ years and maybe never even touched a 3D game.
If he was using a controller the aim assist alone would have done better then that. whoever this was simply seems to lack the motor skills to do two different things at once. If they were in school during the bush years they would have had a specialist assigned to them under "no child left behind"
It was a fricking trackball IIRC, maybe a trackpad. Still, it shows how fricking little they actually cared. It's a 30 minute gameplay promo and they couldn't even be assed to play it on a proper controller. Dude was probably half asleep in bed, too.
This isn't somebody playing a game because they want to and enjoy games, this is somebody playing a game because they fricking have to for work and don't give a shit. Somebody blackout drunk would play better than this. DarkSydePhil consistently plays better than this in any game he bumbles through.
As terrible as Ganker is, you can get genuine discussion with people who enjoy the game you're discussion between the Discord raids, shills and schizo ramblings. Game journalists are just shills going on schizo ramblings who hate videogames, they want to talk about politics but nobody hires them for it. It's one of those jobs that if it died out, the world would be a better place.
yes you most likely would because i've seen someone play exactly like that and it was my 63-year-old dad, so unless you're a literal old man your brain can probably process the concepts of moving with one stick and aiming with the other at the same time, unlike my dad and this negative IQ journo
Old gaming mags were made to get you excited about cool games coming in the future. Modern game journalism is about why you should hate a developer because they said a nono word twelve years ago.
>gaming journalism has ALWAYS been marketing, what the frick do you think game magazines were?
untrue. You had the package of opinion, marketing, sometimes cheatcodes and info about secrets and obviously you could look at the game in times when there was no internet and much more. Nowadays its just some gays opinion, rarely honest or even paid for
>that package of marketing, those cheats and those secrets ARE marketing, my brother.
yes i dont disagree. I ment it used to be much more. the positive outweighed the negative (marketing). >"some gays opinion" is legit less corporate pandering, even if you don't like it
they are hired to spew pandered opinion, how is that "less corporate pandering"?
Man, it could have been hours, but the fact that they just phased through the platform adds another layer to the incompetence of the thing being referenced.
>talented writers and developers
Black person talking like he made Black Souls. There's a lot of things competing for people's time now and an information overload. There's no space for game's journalism and shilling some product they don't play from a shit series that a youtuber could tell you more about without bullshitting you.
These "experts" spent the past decade shitting on their readership as racist, sexist, Nazi chuds. Wrote game reviews with clear agendas. And act as little as PR for the publishers.
Why are they surprised people are sick of them and they are now losing jobs?
90% of game journalists are morons with a journalism degree who couldn't get jobs with "real" news outlets. Which sucks for the ones that are actually passionate and knowledgeable about about video games. I hope all the fake idiots get purged.
>expert >criticism
These are the same homosexuals who sling 9/10 and 10/10s en masse and call complete shit games a 6/10 at worst but only if they are universally hated.
>Everyone Suffers Without Expert Criticism
That explains why the video game market is suffering so much. Thank you for your important insight.
But in other news, game journalists are also being fired.
Wasn't it journos that spearheaded the push for 30fps to begin with? I'm even more disappointed Ganker's spam filter made me have to shorten how much HAHAHAHA I typed because this scenario demands more than the site can withstand.
>expert criticism >"uhh why is this australian dev team white???" >"ermmmm why isn't 15th century bohemia a diverse metropolis????" >"what the actual frick are they STILL making those creepy dead or alive games?????"
When fricking DSP of all people calls you out like this you have to examine yourself.

That doesn't exonerate anyone involved. You don't need to be a pro expert videogamer to put a very basic 2 and 2 together. And even if we disregard how if he took this same energy anywhere else in life he'd have choked himself to death brushing his own teeth, the people in charge should have had the right person for the job.
Yea, but trolling him is kind of boring now, he is wise to it all now and does not freak the frick out like he used to.
He has gone like Wings of Redemption, where his trolls have to break the law to "troll" him. By doing chargeback fraud on donations.
>Eurogamer game reviewer Ed Zitron awarded the game a rating of 2 out of 10.[64] However, this review was not received well as it contained several basic gameplay description errors, and Darkfall lead developer Tasos Flambouras claims that game server logs show that the Eurogamer reviewer played the game for under three hours, a claim denied by the writer.[65]
Imagine being a games journalist and your hard hitting expose is just badgering a few people via social media DMs or emails about a single word in a song that you purposefully misinterpret
You know what I hate the most about this?
You know it was just clickbait to get anti-tendies to give them clicks because that song isn't a remix, it's the exact same as the one in Persona 5.
they are the original subhumans and a world without them is a better one.
absoultely NOTHING of value will be lost once these subhumans are gone.
it's ironic and delicous karma when these subhumans declared that "GAMERS ARE DEAD" during their Gamergate era.
Frick them. I hope many of them will kill themselves, because they failed at life and are absolutely worthless outside of their shitty, obsolte worthless clickbait bubble.
I shit and piss on them and their future graves. I hope A.I replaces every single one of them.
I don't know who they're trying to fool really. Even as a politically left leaning guy or whatever I've known for a long time to not trust reviews of anything.
Yeah, imagine. 1400s poland, someone has a Black person baby from a one night stand. 1400s, extremely christian poland. Im sure that lady and her baby both would have been embraced with open arms by the community, and not either shunned or killed.
Imagine being a "historian" and sitting around all day dreaming about Black folk wandering into white homelands and raping someone. And then imagine being a journalist and seeking this guy out for a quote.
Games "journalists" and the people who read this shit need to go extinct already.

there were moors in europe like zerco but obviously they weren't an ubiquotus feature in every bumfrick village, if they wanted to be historically accurate then they could have a few moor characters in very specific circumstances, but obviously they'll take it to "there was a moorish jester in a court at one point so every village has to have 5 afro-american characters" (yes I know afro-american characters make no sense in a medieval european setting but you know that they won't make them historically accurate moors and instead make them black lives matter activists)
aren't they talking about kingdom come deliverance? which was set in the czechia in the 15th century, by then there was trade with arabs in that region, you could find some historically accurate explanation as to why there's a moor there, if you really really really want to have some black characters, granted their depiction wouldn't be very bright, they'd probably be slaves or mercenaries, it's just silly to think that it would be a very prevalent thing
kingdom come isn't too far in time from yasuke either, if there were blacks in japan by that time (obviously not many but some through slave trade ended up there too) then it's not super surprising if there were some moors in czechia or poland too through slave trade in southern europe and britain, placing "medieval europe" in time is always a finicky thing, especially since the renaissance is also included in "medieval" most often than not, so "medieval" can span between the 2nd century and the 19th century pretty much, after the ancient times when rome basically fell into pieces and before the industrial revolution, but obviously there's huge differences between 5th century remnants of the roman empire, 10th century newly formed kingdoms and 15th century when you pretty much had global trade and cannons already, if we're talking about blacks in the 5th century you could have some remnants of the roman empire with ties to african provinces that did bring blacks from africa, in the 10th century maybe not so much since kingdoms became pretty isolated, then in the 15th century you could easily have blacks even in japan through the extensive trade with the arab world

That was nearly 200 years later, when a black guy showed up in japan as part of a crew of portuguese traders and missionaries. It wasnt like there were blacks roaming all over japan either. The most powerful warlord in all of japan, a guy who had been all over the entirety of japan conquering it, didnt even understand what he was, he just thought he was dirty. In all likelyhood, that single Black person was the only one on the entire island at that time.
Sure, you can explain ONE black guy maybe showing up somewhere in europe. The reality is until relatively modern times, like mid-1800s, most people not growing up near africa or near slaves would live their entire lives without seeing a single Black person or even knowing they exist.
Does the average gamer even read reviews?
Feels like most people can just find a youtuber or streamer they like and watch them play a game and easily figure out if I'd enjoy it or not. I don't need to read a blog post when I can actually see someone who is somewhat competent at the game just play it and talk about their experience.
Some people read the review after looking at the rating. It's the rating that people use and b***h/shitpost about. Think like the game awards, or rather any awards show. It's all bullshit.
I've never read a game review in my life, if people talk about a game and I think it seems interesting then I'll watch the trailers, if it looks good then I'll look for gameplay videos or streams to see how the game plays, if it looks good then I try it and then decide whether it's shit or not
This isn't the best place to ask a question like that. But youtubers and streamers are often just as bad, the 1% that are honest and competent at games get single-digit views.
Eh, maybe if you watch top tier popular youtubers/streamers but there's plenty of more niche ones that give reasonable opinions.
And most games will have a silent playthrough or whatever showcasing the game, so you can always watch that.
That's basically what I said, you really think most average gamers are going to dig that deep rather than just go for those big popular names who will miss any and all subtleties and who never go indepth with any game they play? Though frankly no one does that anymore.
The most popular YouTube game reviewer is Jake Baldino
I don't know that name, though I can't say I keep up with specific names and you can already tell I don't put much stock in reviews or other's gameplay anymore, if anything I learn more about games by noticing the myriad things they're clearly not doing.
>Does the average gamer even read reviews?
Most tend to look up YouTubers actual journalism sites are almost never used outside of aggregates like Metacritic.
I played and enjoyed Street fighter V despite the fact that it has trash ratings. And I hated Octopath even though the ratings were good. TLDR ratings don't matter you should know what you like/what you don't like.
Text reviews are for boomers who need a opinions of newspaper-like media about "young people enjoy". No wonder why reviews put politics and trans rights when his target audience really dont read anymore
>Does the average gamer even read reviews?
morons? yes. brand loyalty is very strong across all age ranges.
also morons will constantly repost the scores as if they meant anything.
and devs get their bonuses paid depending on the score.

those are just paid shills in video form.

Frankly I hope all of them get laid off. They can't play games, all they do is act as an extension of marketing, and when they are doing something independently it's usually them complaining about white males or personal inadequacy that they project onto the things they are supposed to be reviewing. I wish them nothing but the worst.
Good journos should be able to survive out of youtube and/or patreon
Pic related got canceled and fired of Polygon for "sexual misconduct" and now is doing better than the entire Polygon channel, and most other gaming journalists
>good
nah you don't even have to be good, you just have to be an attention prostitute. hell, look at jim sterling. that fricker's schtick hasn't changed in more than a decade and he's somehow still going strong. it's just because he dares to put himself in front of a camera/audience/churn out an opinion no matter how unwarranted, and nothing more.
>somehow still going strong
the fat homosexual went from almost 1M subs to 783k and still losing around 1k per month.
He surviving out of some moronic troony whales.
>the fat homosexual went from almost 1M subs to 783k and still losing around 1k per month.
You love to see it. That's what he deserves for supporting the harassment of streamers who played Hogwarts Legacy
when he been attacked for reviewing games low and then he openly back hurassment campaign. fricking snake. it should of been known he is very good friends with the troony who tried label nintendo as ableist becuase he missheard a lyric in a persona 5 song in smash
>EXPERT criticism
jounalists are the most childish, ignorant frickwards in the world and their whole thing is convincing everyone to be as moronic, thoughtless and stupid as they are for clicks. Your post, OP, is no different. You fell for it.
I honestly prefer hearing recommendations by word of mouth. The average journo gives no shit about some of the games I've ended up enjoying while praising games that ended up being broken pieces of shit. It's obvious that so many are either directly paid to say good things, or are scared of being taken off the good boy list for saying something negative.
Also, if I'm looking at a review of a game, I don't want people b***hing about their political agendas. They b***hed to no end about being able to date adults in persona 5 instead of letting the player be gay.
There was a time years and years ago that I enjoyed going on Kotaku. They would show interesting upcoming games, rank good older stuff, and just talk about the industry. It was cool when they talked about localization changes similar to youtube channels like Region Break do now. Their content is garbage now when I look at an article and they hide most comments because they go against the reviewer. I pretty much only go there if I want a summary of the announcements after some game expo and even then they add in links to all their other articles with shitty opinions.
game journalists are shit at games and when people laugh at it, they poke the hivemind and provoke several articles about why gamers are evil, it's actually comical
frick game journalists
Youtubers/streamers basically left them in the dust.
If I wanted to learn more about a game like Hades, I can just look up a gameplay video on youtube showing the average run and get a decent idea on how it actually plays and what a average person would actually do in it. You can easily just skim through the video and get a rough feel of how the game works.
If I wanted something more in-depth, I can easily find someone on youtube who is doing a more detailed review who is actually interested in the game and likes the genre who can give me a nuanced view of the game. Or just watch a streamer I like and see how they're experiencing the game.
>folks >y'all
if you don't have a southern accent and you use these it tells me a lot about the kind of person you are. It's kinda like if you hear someone say "based", "absolute gigachad", or "soul" outside of Ganker, or "Ratio", "Problematic", and having pronouns in your bio being an indicator that you spend a lot of time on twitter and tumblr, it's a radar ping of sorts for what kind of person you hang around. Solely because of the word "folks" I don't believe him when he says he himself is not a liberal minded gatekeeper and is just trying to cover his ass and the ass of his friends.
If someone posts their opinions professionally, they should be required to show how much time and how far they have gotten in the game. An easy way to see what scores they have given other games would also be useful. So many give dishonest reviews where it's clear they either didn't play much of the game or they suck at video games and don't understand the mechanics. Sometimes I see reviews where it is absolutely obvious, like someone complaining about the soundtrack in a game where the music ramps up when you are doing well and keeping up combos.
That still doesn't fix the fact that someone who looks at lots of games on a regular basis will have really different expectations than typical for things like wanting everything to be subversive or hating a game with a long intro.
>inner-city ""journalists"" write literal trash for 15+ years while the economy's good >no-one reads any of it >doesnt matter cuz economy's good >years pass >economy shits the bed >games are $130 >new games arent even worth buying in the first place >companies start laying off useless inner-city hipster journalists that are wasting $150k/year each >"OH NOES NOT LE HECKIN' GAME JOURNORINOS"

The last game journos that seemed like they knew what they were talking about was Giant Bomb. Now that literally every one of them left you might as well burn down the whole industry; youtube autists and streamers will pick up the pieces.
The only advantage a journo has over the average person or youtuber is that they can get a game early and put out a summary of its pros and cons before everyone else. That's the only pro. Consider that now some companies also give early copies to streamers/youtubers and other companies give review embargos and this advantage means almost nothing now.
The average person can't make an informed decision of whether an upcoming game is going to be worth getting and all these early reviews are by people who have to say good things to keep getting games early. You end up basically going in just as blind but now having to hope some dumbass has actually played the game, knows how to play video games, and genuinely liked it. Then the newest pokemon game or whatever gets amazing reviews but is a buggy mess but you already bought it.
The only ones capable of "expert criticism" should be people who make games. Saying that you are an expert at saying what is wrong with something that you've never done means nothing.
Examining Ethical Concerns in Game Journalism: A Critical Look at IGN
While discussing the impact of AI on game journalism, it is essential to address broader concerns within the industry, including the issue of ethical practices. One prominent player in the game journalism landscape is IGN, a popular gaming media outlet. However, it is important to critically examine their practices and shed light on potential ethical concerns that have arisen over the years.
IGN has faced criticism regarding potential conflicts of interest in their game reviews. Some argue that their close relationships with game developers and publishers may influence the objectivity and impartiality of their reviews. While IGN maintains that they have strict guidelines and policies to mitigate such biases, the perception of favoritism persists, damaging the credibility of their reviews. Game journalists must prioritize transparency and avoid any perception of impropriety to maintain the trust of their audience.
Another area of concern is the integration of advertisements within IGN's content. Native advertising, where promotional content is seamlessly integrated with editorial content, blurs the line between objective reporting and advertising. Critics argue that this practice can mislead readers by presenting promotional material as unbiased content, compromising the integrity of the journalism. It is crucial for game journalists to maintain a clear distinction between editorial and promotional content to uphold journalistic ethics.
Diversity and representation have become crucial aspects of modern journalism. However, some have accused IGN of lacking diverse voices in their coverage. It is important for game journalism outlets to prioritize inclusivity and ensure that their content reflects the diverse gaming community. By fostering an environment that encourages diverse perspectives, game journalists can present a more comprehensive and inclusive portrayal of the gaming landscape.
As the gaming industry continues to evolve, game journalism must also adapt and address ethical concerns that arise. While IGN remains a popular outlet, it is essential for them and other game journalism organizations to critically assess their practices and strive for transparency, objectivity, and inclusivity. By addressing conflicts of interest, clearly distinguishing between editorial and promotional content, and amplifying diverse voices, game journalists can strengthen the integrity of the industry and foster a more trusted relationship with their audience. It is through a commitment to ethical journalism that the game journalism industry can continue to thrive and provide valuable insights to the gaming community.
there's only 3 mentions of slavery in the article itself (which is still too much unless you're playing some kind of slave trading game), all the others are in the comments section.
At end, almost everyone needlessly suffers with "expert criticism", in any field.
"Expert criticism" is not the same as "gatekeeping", which is sometimes necessary (when applied with didactic intentions).
Tens of thousands of years ago, we didn't gatekeep things like "logic", "reasoning", and "substantiating your personal thoughts" and therefore these things have been the playground of idiots for just as long.
these are most likly the same Black folk who jump and cheer when automation can replace truckers, farmers and other blue color jobs, now they will be replaced too. frick them
ChatGPT does about as well at writing an article as your typical journalist does, and despite it's blatant biases on certain subjects it probably won't go into a tirade about how Bayonetta is a symptom of the cisheteronormative patriarchy, or whatever the frick.
It's not like journos play the games or are any good at them anyways, if anything a GPT3 review would be more likely to be accurate just because it'd be copying and reinterpreting reviews from people that actually played the game, like from forum posts or Steam reviews.
Bayonetta, a video game character known for her sexualized appearance and provocative poses, can be seen as a symptom of the cisheteronormative patriarchy within the gaming industry. Her design caters to the male gaze, perpetuating the objectification of women and reinforcing traditional gender roles. By portraying Bayonetta as a hypersexualized, powerful femme fatale, the game appeals to a narrow definition of femininity that aligns with male fantasies and desires. This portrayal not only reinforces harmful stereotypes but also marginalizes and alienates female gamers who seek more diverse and empowering representations in video games.
Yea.
It still makes me laugh even today. >Invisible chest >Gets asshurt by a negative achievement unlock >The homosexual whining he does
It is just pure lol.
Don't forget him whining about "Consult an FAQ" when that's perfectly fine grammar since in many cases FAQ can be read phonetically like most abbreviations. This coming from a so-called writer.
Nintendo Power was actual strategy guide for 2-3 games each issue with some other tips and previews and whatever. There was (is) no other source for this information.
A lot of game journalists moste definitely aren't experts and they sure as hell don't give criticism.
For them their "journalism" is just having a blog where they can rant about their ideals so they feel validated, and organise witch hunts against people who don't agree with them
"Game journalists" aren't experts. A typical game journalist knows virtually nothing about games or their history, doesn't love them, doesn't love the people who play them, doesn't love the people who make them (but sure sucks their dicks), and just writes, for the lack of a better term, total bullshit.
IGN are infamously bad at Sonic games. The Sonic Unleashed reviewer said the game had unresponsive controls, to depict this he jumped over a dash ramp. The only unresponsive thing in regards to journos are their brains or more accurately the severe lack of one.
The most interesting thing is that shitty critics can't hide their incompetence behind subjectivity like they do with movies, series, books, etc.
Video critics are more like a critic of fishing equipment, or motorcycles, or cars, or tools, these guys necessarily need to know what they are talking about, they can't hide their incompetence behind intellectual masturbation like critics do with art.
That's why in the video game world frauds can't fool many people like they do in the arts in general.
It's more interesting than that because that element of subjectivity does exist in games, but it's not the entire scope of it and it can be called into question based on how they understand the rest of it. It's what makes their attempts to hide behind it even worse to those who recognize it, but people do unfortunately get fooled and the idea of how games are approached has shifted. Or it'd be more accurate to say a massive audience now playing games have a different, stagnant idea of approaching them.
did this dude get fired for that? i recall him doubling down, and then privating his account then deleting the tweet*
i dont recall if any fallout occured for it
A journalist needs to give a shit about their medium first. 'Good writing' is just code for an english major out of their second job.
I'd rather read some random dude's ravings whose been playing games since the beginning than some 'journalist' who always has to mention how 'they'll probably fix it in an update' every essay.
does anyone remember the game that journo played on easy and then complained that the story was kinda anti-climactic, the dev then explained that the final mission could only be unlocked on normal or higher difficulty and the journo just doubled down and refused to admit he only played the game on easy?
It was called Pixeljunk Shooter or something like that, I never played it myself but I do remember that. It was worse though, he kept the review exactly as is except deleting the part that he was specifically called out on that reveals he must have rushed it on Easy. Someone's probably got the screencap I'm sure.
>plays the game on the easiest difficulty available >will download cheats if the game is "too hard" >only plays the game for an hour or two before dropping it and "reviewing" it >often tends to not really give a shit about games, some will even openly brag about not caring about games, and are only there to infect the medium and push their social justice agenda >actively push for games to be dumbed down and turned into "cinematic experiences" >actively defend multibillion $ corporations israeliteing the player with endless DLC and "micro"transactions >more often than not are complete mouth breathing morons who cannot play even the simplest of games made for children >"""expert"""
I love seeing the "video game journalism" industry squealing while it dies. Frick them.
I'll be honest anon, I'd take an AI playing through a game and writing up a review about it over the current lot of idiots dual LARPing as both gamers and journalists.
>expert criticism
Not gonna click the article, but did they give one example of this?
Most game journo have no game dev background and they offer no more insight that your average gamers. The only unique thing about them is that they usually got the game early.
When is the last time game journalists were actually useful? The official game/studio social media page and random fans on youtube are better info sources than actual game journalist websites at this point.
It's not 2013 any more, I don't need to go read gameinformer for their exclusive interview, I don't need to go on IGN to see everything announced at microsoft's E3 showcase because the full vod is up on youtube right away with chapters and it doesn't take 2 hours to load in 144p anymore, I just don't see any reason for game journalism to exist anymore
>expert criticism
what a moronic thing to say. they don't even play the games they review and their livelihood is dependent on staying on publishers' good side (i.e. a blatant conflict of interest). >reporting about yourself

I trust company cultist opinions even less than games journalists.
Other way around
Lol YouTubers? They get paid too, moron

Frick that, post the Cup Head one
Ugh these old games with their outdated mechanics...! Needs correction...!
When subhuman journos say they want easy mode they talk about this
The journo in question proceeded to call the combat shit while playing in subhuman journo mode
I mean the combat looks like shit.
The Cuphead one doesn't work all that well because the guy that did this moronic shit isn't actually a video game reviewer just a homosexual tech bro ass eater that wrote a handful of first impressions articles about games. The DOOM video is by an "official, expert video game journalist"
He does game reviews, supposedly his area of expertise is RPGs, however...
Isn't he also the same gay that called Space Marine a Gears of War ripoff because of the chainswords?
He is also extremely mentally moronic
Dude his article is so obviously written by a clueless amateur. Who let this joker in the room? Who fricking READS this slop?
He may be moronic but that shows integrity, mass effect was hot shit and he gave it a bad review. He then went back and made an embarrassing update when he recognized he was in the wrong. Sure it's very dumb but that's a lot more integrity than most.
there's no point defending a grown adult that can't comprehend simple physics just because it's in a videogame

Jesus, I'm bad at FPSes but even I can manage shooting and moving at the same time.
I don't think he was using a mouse.
Doom doesn't have modern aim assist. Emphasis on modern.
>It was a fricking trackball IIRC, maybe a trackpad.
I game with a trackball and do well enough. Frick trackpads, though.
its like watching my Dad play Doom 1 using the mouse to move forward and cursor keys to turn left and right
To be fair I'd do horribly if I'm suddenly forced to play Doom with a controller. But why would I do that if I can play it with mouse and keyboard
I would play the same way if I was using a controller.
But then again why are you using a controller to play doom?
As terrible as Ganker is, you can get genuine discussion with people who enjoy the game you're discussion between the Discord raids, shills and schizo ramblings. Game journalists are just shills going on schizo ramblings who hate videogames, they want to talk about politics but nobody hires them for it. It's one of those jobs that if it died out, the world would be a better place.

if I was forced to play doom on a controller I wouldn't do much better tbh

yes you most likely would because i've seen someone play exactly like that and it was my 63-year-old dad, so unless you're a literal old man your brain can probably process the concepts of moving with one stick and aiming with the other at the same time, unlike my dad and this negative IQ journo
the Pistol was fun and sniping low health enemies is satisfying
It's easier to believe this is a satire of game journos than a person who's actual job is to play video games and review them.

Good riddance. Can't wait for the day when they're all completely gone.
Gaming journalism has been glorified marketing since the early 2000’s.
gaming journalism has ALWAYS been marketing, what the frick do you think game magazines were?
I guess, but 90’s gaming mags were so kino I can’t shit on them. 90’s vidya marketing was kino too. Nintendon’t will be stuck in my mind forever.
"some gays opinion" is legit less corporate pandering, even if you don't like it.
>that package of marketing, those cheats and those secrets ARE marketing, my brother.
yes i dont disagree. I ment it used to be much more. the positive outweighed the negative (marketing).
>"some gays opinion" is legit less corporate pandering, even if you don't like it
they are hired to spew pandered opinion, how is that "less corporate pandering"?
I'd post the pic about that magazine calling out journos saying "73%, the number of the beast" but janny cucks rangebanned me for no reason.

I liked the Oneyplays parody of this where they actually accidentally glitched past the platform, which makes the original journo context even worse.
I wonder how long they would have kept the bit going if the game itself hadn't ended it for them.
Man, it could have been hours, but the fact that they just phased through the platform adds another layer to the incompetence of the thing being referenced.

Wasn't it revealed that the guy in question wasn't actually a historian but literally just a guy who read wikipedia articles?
there were moors in europe like zerco but obviously they weren't an ubiquotus feature in every bumfrick village, if they wanted to be historically accurate then they could have a few moor characters in very specific circumstances, but obviously they'll take it to "there was a moorish jester in a court at one point so every village has to have 5 afro-american characters" (yes I know afro-american characters make no sense in a medieval european setting but you know that they won't make them historically accurate moors and instead make them black lives matter activists)
It's in poland anon, not spain or italy
aren't they talking about kingdom come deliverance? which was set in the czechia in the 15th century, by then there was trade with arabs in that region, you could find some historically accurate explanation as to why there's a moor there, if you really really really want to have some black characters, granted their depiction wouldn't be very bright, they'd probably be slaves or mercenaries, it's just silly to think that it would be a very prevalent thing
Oh right my bad I misremembered where the game happened
kingdom come isn't too far in time from yasuke either, if there were blacks in japan by that time (obviously not many but some through slave trade ended up there too) then it's not super surprising if there were some moors in czechia or poland too through slave trade in southern europe and britain, placing "medieval europe" in time is always a finicky thing, especially since the renaissance is also included in "medieval" most often than not, so "medieval" can span between the 2nd century and the 19th century pretty much, after the ancient times when rome basically fell into pieces and before the industrial revolution, but obviously there's huge differences between 5th century remnants of the roman empire, 10th century newly formed kingdoms and 15th century when you pretty much had global trade and cannons already, if we're talking about blacks in the 5th century you could have some remnants of the roman empire with ties to african provinces that did bring blacks from africa, in the 10th century maybe not so much since kingdoms became pretty isolated, then in the 15th century you could easily have blacks even in japan through the extensive trade with the arab world
That was nearly 200 years later, when a black guy showed up in japan as part of a crew of portuguese traders and missionaries.
Do you understand that poland is literally an entire continent away from spain?
>NOOO NOT THE HECKIN EXPERT CRITICISM!!
I don't know that name, though I can't say I keep up with specific names and you can already tell I don't put much stock in reviews or other's gameplay anymore, if anything I learn more about games by noticing the myriad things they're clearly not doing.
The most popular YouTube game reviewer is Jake Baldino

Frankly I hope all of them get laid off. Your post, OP, is no different. You fell for it.
Great, hope for more
I honestly prefer hearing recommendations by word of mouth.
Who actually reads that shit? If it weren't for you queers, I wouldn't even know any of those websites existed.
Frick journalists in general, they are only another way of publicity nowadays
Also very much this
You jannies and mods that make this kind of threads are the fricking worst
Youtubers/streamers basically left them in the dust.
If I wanted to learn more about a game like Hades, I can just look up a gameplay video on youtube showing the average run and get a decent idea on how it actually plays and what a average person would actually do in it. You can easily just skim through the video and get a rough feel of how the game works.
If I wanted something more in-depth, I can easily find someone on youtube who is doing a more detailed review who is actually interested in the game and likes the genre who can give me a nuanced view of the game. Or just watch a streamer I like and see how they're experiencing the game.

if you don't have a southern accent and you use these it tells me a lot about the kind of person you are.

God bless! I hope they all end up on the street. They're fricking useless.

If the past ten years has taught me anything, it's /don't/ trust the experts. Sorry corpo prostitute journalists.
This is why game journos are getting replaced

So there aren't any problems then? Good.
"Game journalists" aren't experts. A typical game journalist knows virtually nothing about games or their history, doesn't love them, doesn't love the people who play them, doesn't love the people who make them (but sure sucks their dicks), and just writes, for the lack of a better term, total bullshit.
>Expert criticism
lol
This one goes beyond bad at games. This low IQ Black person can hardly move his fricking hands on the controller.
LMFAO
This is fake, it has to be.
IGN are infamously bad at Sonic games. The Sonic Unleashed reviewer said the game had unresponsive controls, to depict this he jumped over a dash ramp. The only unresponsive thing in regards to journos are their brains or more accurately the severe lack of one.
The only certainty with game journos is that they will always find new lows.
>Game Journalism Layoffs: Everyone Suffers Without Expert Criticism
Hahaha good joke
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Amongst other things - I don't appreciate them.
>"expert"
Should now be "I seriously hope you trannies don't do this."
Best news I've had in a while. Gaming journalists seem to be mostly made up of entitled mongoloids who suck at games.
Pls post more examples of game journos being literally fricking moronic I need more of this in my life.
It's MICE to see it, hope they learn to cod- COPE, news journos included
did this dude get fired for that? i recall him doubling down, and then privating his account then deleting the tweet*
i dont recall if any fallout occured for it
He's the chief editor, he's not gonna get fired
a bold move
Based take. If you aren't pissing off corporations by airing their dirty laundry then you're doing marketing, not journalism.
Except they weren't blacklisted for that, they were blacklisted for leaking confidential info and complaining that games aren't black enough
Is that why gaming has been mostly shit the past decade or so?
A journalist needs to give a shit about their medium first. 'Good writing' is just code for an english major out of their second job.
I'd rather read some random dude's ravings whose been playing games since the beginning than some 'journalist' who always has to mention how 'they'll probably fix it in an update' every essay.
Videogame criticism is dominated by failed writers who have zero interest in videogames and only do it as a jumping off point for something else.
Good riddance they always overrate woke shit and tendie slop
does anyone remember the game that journo played on easy and then complained that the story was kinda anti-climactic, the dev then explained that the final mission could only be unlocked on normal or higher difficulty and the journo just doubled down and refused to admit he only played the game on easy?
There are quite a few examples like that, I'm pretty sure Sonic Frontiers was one of them too.
It was called Pixeljunk Shooter or something like that, I never played it myself but I do remember that. It was worse though, he kept the review exactly as is except deleting the part that he was specifically called out on that reveals he must have rushed it on Easy. Someone's probably got the screencap I'm sure.
>expert criticism
you have 60 seconds to
>find a game you played
>any review that you object to about that game
>critique it better than that review
I don't give money to journalists
They should learn to code.
Good riddance
what degrees do we get now
Chemistry to learn how to blow it all up in minecraft
Learn to code.
>plays the game on the easiest difficulty available
>will download cheats if the game is "too hard"
>only plays the game for an hour or two before dropping it and "reviewing" it
>often tends to not really give a shit about games, some will even openly brag about not caring about games, and are only there to infect the medium and push their social justice agenda
>actively push for games to be dumbed down and turned into "cinematic experiences"
>actively defend multibillion $ corporations israeliteing the player with endless DLC and "micro"transactions
>more often than not are complete mouth breathing morons who cannot play even the simplest of games made for children
>"""expert"""
I love seeing the "video game journalism" industry squealing while it dies. Frick them.
Learn to mine coal.
means next to nothing since they've been leeching off their parents' money to even begin considering it as a profession
To all the people saying that these people should learn to code, please realize that they are way too stupid to do so.
indians can code. You can't be too stupid to code.
nobody said to code well
>Expert
In their own words
>And that's a good thing!
they are more than useless because they actively harm video games with their liberal ideology
There is no group of people I hate more than video game journalists.
Gamergate wins in the end
>talented writers
Huh? Who?
I'll be honest anon, I'd take an AI playing through a game and writing up a review about it over the current lot of idiots dual LARPing as both gamers and journalists.
>expert criticism
Not gonna click the article, but did they give one example of this?
Most game journo have no game dev background and they offer no more insight that your average gamers. The only unique thing about them is that they usually got the game early.
Gaming journalists were always incompetent amateurs and shills.
When is the last time game journalists were actually useful? The official game/studio social media page and random fans on youtube are better info sources than actual game journalist websites at this point.
It's not 2013 any more, I don't need to go read gameinformer for their exclusive interview, I don't need to go on IGN to see everything announced at microsoft's E3 showcase because the full vod is up on youtube right away with chapters and it doesn't take 2 hours to load in 144p anymore, I just don't see any reason for game journalism to exist anymore
>expert criticism
what a moronic thing to say. they don't even play the games they review and their livelihood is dependent on staying on publishers' good side (i.e. a blatant conflict of interest).
>reporting about yourself
even more pitiful
>talented
come on now
Hang all credentialed gamers.
I SAY KILL 'EM ALL
"Expert Critcism"
Fricking lmao. You find better criticism on this shithole than you do from paying these literal morons to play games on movie mode and b***h about the lack of Black folk in gaming.
It's even worse now because they just hire blue hair freelance loons.
