Why they didn't include Platinum content is beyond me. The only upgrade I can note is the Grand Underground allowing you to pick up mons you wouldn't find early ingame. I was able to score a Croagunk which was nice. I'd also like a Magby/Elekid too.

So basically Masuda told ILCA to ignore Platinum because it "shit all over his precious game" when Platinum was far better.

Yes who cares. Raising comp Pokemon in Gen 4 is a fricking chore and doing more than the basic battle tower is an exercise in masochism. The game ends when I beat the champion. Maybe I'll catch some bonus legendaries. I'm not making a team good enough to do the battle frontier in in a gen with pre-Kalos breeding mechanics and no way of quickly checking stats.

I don't think the second screen elements translated well to only one screen. I loved the Poketch on the DS but thought it wasn't very good on the Switch.
Other than that, I'd say it was okay for a Diamond/Pearl remake. However, I think the thing that really bothers people is that it wasn't a remake of Platinum that's generally considered the better version of Sinnoh.
BDSP is weird with how faithful it chooses to be. Some things like modern Exp. Share and Affection bonuses are included. But then there's weird regression like TMs being breakable again or the whole Wireless system taking us back to Union Rooms. Features like the VS Recorder or Wi-Fi Plaza are missing. The Underground is much more expansive, but Secret Bases are simplified. They included some references to Platinum like the Gym/E4 Teams, or the special Giratina fight. But also removed the Battle Zone Villa and Frontier. I just don't get the direction here.
HGSS still feels like the most comprehensive remake. They just updated the entire game around Gen 4's engine and gameplay. Included things that weren't possible due to system limitations like a more complete map of Kanto. Even had crossover evolutions for existing characters like pic related. We'll never see this again thanks to the dexcut...
It got it for free because my nephew wouldn't stop shitting his pants so his mother gave me all his games. But it's like the decided to keep all the bad stuff( I hate having to dig in the underground for stuff) and not introduce anything interesting
