My ass it was.
you are wrong
LEONIDAS, YOU ARE WRONG!!!!!!
Who the frick keeps buying these games? The writing in all of them are ass.
Unironically Redditors.
Of course it was. Epic paid for exclusivity so it already made all its money back and then some. For Epic ezclusivity they guarantee all the sales that were lost by it being an exclusive.
Not true, they only have ever paid up to 25 million, and this game probably got way less than that and cost way more to make. The reason why people believe this is because they used to do it with indie titles and you legitimately could get all the money you could ever make from the deal, with bigger titles like this it's basically just "frick you Gaben"
If only they put that money in making a decent competitor.
Someone post the greasy pics
Who keeps buying Borderlands games? Is the series huge on consoles?
It is me, because it's still the only good looter shooter around. The Division sucks, Destiny 2 sucks, Outriders sucks, Borderlands is, story-wise, the shittiest franchise ever made, but it's still the only FPS that lets me fire a sniper that exploded and becomes three rockets when it headshots and then trade it for a rifle that allows me to "tag" enemies and make the bullets curve to hit them behind obstacles a couple hours later. It's fricking baffling nobody else in the industry has tried to compete with it by simply making their games more fun.
the division 2 isnt bad.
Try Gunfire Reborn,.
That's why I stick around as well. I'm embarrassed to say I'm a fan of the series but I enjoy the fact it's a fairly simple but solid FPS shell for Diablo. All I want is to shoot a guy, get a better gun, and use that gun to shoot his friends.
me
>Is the series huge on consoles?
I got 3 on sale for PS4 and it's fricking terrible. Straight up freezes when you try to play coop which was supposedly a big sell.
Borderlands is big because it's one of the only games that do full coop campaigns still.
I'm ashamed to say I bought the Tiny Tina themed g-fuel. It's cherry vanilla so it's really, really good but I feel disgraced every time I use it.
>take two
They have literal trannies on their board
Good. Game was fun. Had some rough bits but overall it wasn't terrible.
Dlcs were shit, but the base game was just more borderlands. I'd fricks with some more of that.
It's really surprising to me how much people like Borderlands.
Two different co-workers at two different jobs, who I initially enjoyed the company of, both fricking adore Borderlands. Think it's the funniest shit around, restart new characters and just play the game over and over whenever a new one comes out. Both play D&D and are addicted to Smite, too. Fricking curiosities.
Reminder that without hard numbers on a relevant detail, any statement is worthless.
Shareholders fully expect someone to say any fluff to boost their confidence, but they get pissed when they're lied to about the hard numbers
So, uh, what about a concrete sales number?
I played a Borderlands game for the first time a month ago (via the GOTY Enhanced on Steam) and I can understand why is so popular: it's a very "videogamey" videogame; basically all you do is dungeon crawling with guns, with some driving.
Hell, I even liked it and will buy 2 as soon as it goes on sale (when I become interested on a series I only buy the very first game to see if I like it or not).
2 is no where near as good as 1. It's very tonally different. It legitimately is Memelands 2
What about the gameplay, gunplay and dungeon design (yes I know, Diablo-like game)?
I mostly play Japanese games so I'm already immune to horrible narrative.
Gameplay, gunplay, and dungeon design are all massively improved in 2 (and the DLCs are all solid to great). Main issues are aggressive exponential scaling means that a green gun at your level will outpace a purple gun that's 5 levels below you and endgame virtually requires using the slag element to debuff enemies in order to inflict meaningful damage.
Writing and tone are worse but if you're just looking to click on things it's the best in the series. Pre-sequel has interesting ideas but poor execution, 3 is bloated with terrible quest design along with the worst writing in the series, and Tiny Tina was legitimately really good with interesting guns and really well-made levels but let down by spongy enemies.
Thanks for your replies. Still will give 2 a fair try when it goes on sale (and once I'm done with the Halo series; another series I'm playing for the first time, via the MCC) and if the game sucks I will drop it.
So I know common reception is that it's better gameplay-wise from Borderlands 1, but even there I disagree. Elemental weapons bullets have a weird traveling mechanic, where you actual watch the bullet travel, since they don't fire at the speed of non-elemental guns.
As someone who is a fan of RPGs in general, I find the talent trees better in 1. "X% more with Sniper rifles." "Add burn effect" are simplistic talents which I appreciate, since you can't use them to diverse the builds and emphasize a role. BL2 and on are more along the lines of "You get all this bullshit" for every talent, which I find less interesting.
I'm a fairly ardent defender of 2 but those are reasonable points. Gearbox can't seem to design a skill tree well to save their life and I think one of the charms of Wonderlands was that you could mix and match skill trees so there were more explicitly designed synergies that were modular rather than just being an increase to a number.
How low was the bar? Clearly it was just an overblown DLC spinoff that didn't even share the same name as the franchise and could have easily flown under the radar so...good for them I guess.
Some percentage of that is definitely from fans that bought it on Epic/console out of impatience then later on Steam on principle.
This is gonna keep happening until there's real looter shooter competition.
I want a looter shooter but just melee weapons, is that so much to ask
Godfall sucks dick
The Nioh games.
Yes, I'm sure. Where are the numbers?
