This is basically the reason why zoomers, and their miniscule attention spans, find themselves bored with gaming. Too much content out there, and there is always a sense of FOMO if you have too much to choose from.

never ever download romsets, just choose 1 or 2 games at a time and play them until you beat them or get bored. A lot of people can't handle having thousands of games for free at the click of a button, there's just no value to them at that point

you can have romsets, but treat them as an archival backup thing and stick them on a drive somewhere. copy a few roms out at a time but do not work "live" out of the romset or you will be overwhelmed

This is also why chad treats women like they have no value. Chad has all the women and can just play them whenever he wants. Does this mean people who download rom sets are retro chads ?

How does this fit into the chad/rom storyline ? Is keeping roms archived for later like some kind of bdsm chad that has a dungeon full of women ? I wouldn't mind a rom dungeon tbh

I don't look at "must-play" lists. I strictly only play what interests me.

I don't think of a game I want to play when I want to emulate. I emulate when there's a specific game I want to play.
Emulation is a means to an end.

I usually pick a console, browse through genres, then look for games that have cool screenshots.

At that point you just look at whatever title exists in a platform and play anything that looks good, you can then try games you want to but didn't have the console/money/w.e..
After a while you're stuck looking for niche titles, better emulators or replaying what you like.

You'd have to put every single game on that wheel and then spin it. That would take too long, even if you narrowed it down to a specific system.

    >have the option to random pick something for most systems when I want to do something entirely different, click button a few times
    It just works.

    it depends on my mood

Like with anything involving a surfeit of choices like music, movies, books, etc, passion is my guide. When a game shows up in my mind and I feel that pull of passion where I'm curious and want to think about it deeply, that's enough for me to go for it. Once I'm committed to a game, I keep playing it until I either finish it or feel that my passion is gone for it, and I move on to something else. In the event that I have multiple games that induce that passion and I can't reasonably juggle them, then by definition there's no bad choice, so I just pick at random.

I think if you really can't handle having the world at your fingertips, then you either have problems knowing how to do research to find something that interests you, or you have a more fundamental problem of not truly understanding yourself, particularly with knowing what excites you enough to pursue it.

I like to group things up by year or genre or just series so I can compare them all. Like I'll make a list of shmups from a year or comparable JRPGs for a console to see how devs approached things.

I have full ROM sets for 53 different systems, all neatly contained in their own playlists. Sometimes I'll just pick a game at random but most times I won't even start up RA unless I already know what I'm going to play.

Actually good q anon. I usually just go by genre or things that are related to what I know. Like what is considered "classic" in my specific set of niches. Like JRPGs and simulations.

I don't download entire ROM sets. I browse around online or through old magazines until I find an interesting game. Then I virtually obtain the game including all the box art and manuals which I inspect before playing.

I go for 1cc runs of the game is good to me. I go for score runs if it has fun scoring.
This style of play cuts out 90% of retro slop that don't focus around 1 credit runs or have shit scoring.

You're supposed to have a game in mind first and then use an emulator as a means to play it.
It's annoying when people go "I just downloaded [romset], now what do I play?" It's the backwards way to approach this.

Everytime I can't think of a genre or system I want to play I just play Super Shanghai 2 for sega genesis.
