I sometimes forget how short the 8th gen was. It started in 1999 with the Dreamcast but it ended in 2005 with the launch of the Xbox 360. The original Xbox was only on store shelves for 4 years, which is super short by today's standards, and it's because the thing was way too expensive to produce and was not selling well. That means that the Xbox 360 is going to be retro soon.

While I don't dislike the model, I do feel the same way about her face looking a bit off at certain angles. Probably has something to do with how smooth/round it is.
I think I would have preferred if they modeled her face a bit more after her AoD design. That's the look I've always associated with "hi-res classic Lara".

The Lara in the comicbooks is very similar to her LAU portrayal (I wouldn't be surprised if LAU Lara was inspired bh the comics), with a bit of Batman thrown in for a good measure. The comicbooks are cheesy, but pulpy fun and they don't pretend otherwise. I'd say it's better than 90% of modern day capeshit comics.
And I am amazed about all the creative ways the writing team keeps finding to get Lara naked at least once per story arc.

Just finished the underwater levels of TR2 and started the snow one, hopefully the game gets better from here on as some anons said in one of the previous threads
IMO the pace picks up again after the snowmobile section in tibet
when you reach barkhang monastery and the levels after that, the ones where you have solid ground beneath your feet, are classic tomb raider kino and the temple of xian is the kino cherry on top

I like the first part where you explore the anniversary home. It's very comfy. First cave section is atmospheric.
But overall it's not challenging.
I'm annoyed that the climbing additions introduced in the first minutes barely get used later. They could do so much with it.

I really liked TR1 (Peru and Greece were amazing, Atlantis was alright and Egypt was meh) and I really have no idea how they messed up the sequel this bad

a lot of people dislike water levels in vidya, plus the level is generally dark and dreary, which does not make for an aesthetically appealing level
Venice was very nice visually and the Great Wall was a cool and unexpected first level, but I really wish they they didn't go balls to the walls with sprawling levels where you have to look every nook and cranny for keys and switches, my favorite levels in TR1 were the ones that were mostly linear or at least made it very clear what items you were gonna have to collect (Folly, Obelisk etc)
This. I'm playing through TR2 for the first time. The scale of the levels are impressive, but every level just dumps you at the start with no clear goal and it's getting annoying. You basically wander around aimlessly until you find the right ledge to climb. Also the placement of switches and levers makes no fricking sense whatsoever, it's insane. How the frick is a switch that's embedded in some random rocky cave supposed to trigger opening a door thats inside the ship? The ship is also capsised, so am I supposed to believe an engineer swam down there and layed wires/pulleys inside the fricking cave wall to connect to a random door on the ship? It's so fricking stupid. I'm also sick of the modern environments and shooting italians. When do I start exploring tombs again? Isn't that the whole point of the game?
after the ship levels you go back to more traditional settings, with caves and temples and shit. but they too are marred by moronic enemy placement and complicated level design. I've been saying this for years, only TR1 got it right. I love the sequels for the memories and nostalgia but man do they feel like work half the time.

I liked tr2 the best as a kid, and just got around to playing it again, and while I love a lot of the maps and new stuff a lot, I forgot how many times this game just spawns enemies in your face or puts annoying hit scanners in an area that is completely unreachable until you swim and climb up on their little island, some of em get like 5 seconds or more free shots at you before you can fight back. One thing I did remember right is how much the harpoon gun and Maria doria suck though, goddamn. I wonder how hard Ng+ would be for tr2, I already beat the first one and that was mostly okay outside of Atlantis

This shit started with Last Revelation, building the entire game around hub levels that the PS1 could barely handle just to tell some shitty story about Lara's sugar daddy and the apocalypse and a fake out cliffhanger while they worked on Tomb Raider PS2.
Then you had Chronicles straight up ripping off the Matrix. This is why I don't give a shit about the "TR trilogy didn't innovate enough" whiners, at least the trilogy has fun self-contained adventures in levels that get to the point sooner rather than later without all this extra layer of wannabe movie nonsense.

Her Lara Cruz design never really went away it just morphed into being more European versus Latina. Angelina Jolie is a good example of what she could have looked like if they never changed her ethnicity. She's a dead ringer for the Cruz design.

I'm playing normal tomb raider 3 with crystals, i am done with india and nevada and halfway through south pacific, and i've saved up 17 of the crystals, will i be ok? this is my second time playing through the game
if you got that far and have that many crystals saved, you're pretty much golden

The Lara in the comicbooks is very similar to her LAU portrayal (I wouldn't be surprised if LAU Lara was inspired bh the comics), with a bit of Batman thrown in for a good measure. The comicbooks are cheesy, but pulpy fun and they don't pretend otherwise. I'd say it's better than 90% of modern day capeshit comics.
And I am amazed about all the creative ways the writing team keeps finding to get Lara naked at least once per story arc.

TR2 gets better with Tibet, but it does struggle with samey environments. Not nearly as bad as TR4 though.
Venice was very nice visually and the Great Wall was a cool and unexpected first level, but I really wish they they didn't go balls to the walls with sprawling levels where you have to look every nook and cranny for keys and switches, my favorite levels in TR1 were the ones that were mostly linear or at least made it very clear what items you were gonna have to collect (Folly, Obelisk etc)
This. I'm playing through TR2 for the first time. The scale of the levels are impressive, but every level just dumps you at the start with no clear goal and it's getting annoying. You basically wander around aimlessly until you find the right ledge to climb. Also the placement of switches and levers makes no fricking sense whatsoever, it's insane. How the frick is a switch that's embedded in some random rocky cave supposed to trigger opening a door thats inside the ship? The ship is also capsised, so am I supposed to believe an engineer swam down there and layed wires/pulleys inside the fricking cave wall to connect to a random door on the ship? It's so fricking stupid. I'm also sick of the modern environments and shooting italians. When do I start exploring tombs again? Isn't that the whole point of the game?
after the ship levels you go back to more traditional settings, with caves and temples and shit. but they too are marred by moronic enemy placement and complicated level design. I've been saying this for years, only TR1 got it right. I love the sequels for the memories and nostalgia but man do they feel like work half the time.
I like the sprawling and multiple item approach I just think the first two areas of tomb raider 2 are aesthetically disgusting

I liked tr2 the best as a kid, and just got around to playing it again, and while I love a lot of the maps and new stuff a lot, I forgot how many times this game just spawns enemies in your face or puts annoying hit scanners in an area that is completely unreachable until you swim and climb up on their little island, some of em get like 5 seconds or more free shots at you before you can fight back. One thing I did remember right is how much the harpoon gun and Maria doria suck though, goddamn. I wonder how hard Ng+ would be for tr2, I already beat the first one and that was mostly okay outside of Atlantis

also you are pretty much forced to get all secrets as it's the only way to get medpacks. and you get no heals in home sweet home

it's frustrating to me that the improvement of graphics has had the unintended consequence of subconsciously forcing developers to make games more realistic to match the gameplay experience to the graphics, and now games are trying to replicate reality, which is the very thing we were trying to get away from by creating games in the first place
when you give people something new and they enjoy it, you can never take it away from them or else they'll become furious with you, so it'll be interesting to see how companies deal with unsustainable graphical bloat over the coming years

The team wasn't burnt out because it was mostly a different team doing 3... Heather started doing India and Neal started doing Nevada but went on to work on project eden instead. It was mostly new staff who took over.
