I truly believe AA games will return in full force (it's already slowly started, though halted by all the downsizing at the moment), but the industry takes forever to adjust now that there's so much money in it right now (and that's part of the problem). The appeal of games that take half the time to make for a quarter of the budget and make a clean profit will become more apparent to these companies once all the dumb outside investors frick off from the industry (or attach only to mobile games and the five live services that aren't dead three years from now).
Think about how back in the early 00s, GTA3 made everybody adjust their design to take advantage of the trends being set, and how it took less than two years for major devs to start showing that. Nowadays if something gets BIG out of nowhere it takes half a decade for the major players to adjust. Meanwhile if something catches on on the indies there's a dozen games scratching the same itch within six months (only three of them end up good usually but that's just the nature of things). I think if you framed that market responsiveness to investors that aren't 200% full moron line-watchers you'd probably sway them.

Then, if you're remaking a bad game so aggressively that it's a new game with the same story & locations, then you should've just made a new game with a similar tone & setting as the bad game instead. Remasters that adjust balance or controls can be a great sweetspot for games that just didn't get enough time back in the day though.

Think about how back in the early 00s, GTA3 made everybody adjust their design to take advantage of the trends being set, and how it took less than two years for major devs to start showing that. I think that should be obvious, but the Catch-22 is that bad games need the remakes, but it's hard to market a game that's known as bad, but it's easy to market a good game people love (or heard that people love). Then, if you're remaking a bad game so aggressively that it's a new game with the same story & locations, then you should've just made a new game with a similar tone & setting as the bad game instead. Remasters that adjust balance or controls can be a great sweetspot for games that just didn't get enough time back in the day though.
