when microsoft drops out someone else (sadly probably another american corpo instead of a company that is focused on videogames) will drop in. The industry is too big for just two consoles; in fact I was thinking it was too big for us to not have at least a good enough of a competitor against nintendo in the handhelds market already.
the obvious options are nvidia and apple bringing out beefed up shield and apple tvs, they've already ported resident evil to the iphone pro, so they're most certainly doing that at some point.

Let me make it very easy: how the frick could anyone convince even just half of the third parties to develop for their new hardware with no userbase? And remember, Sony and Nintendo gets everything so the new platform is automatically at a disadvantage. Xbox "only" misses ~20% of releases overall and nobody wants it.

i think they will keep making consoles but i honestly wouldnt be surprised if its a digital/streaming only device since they constantly push gamepass.
