I think we should make a clear distriction between indie devs and AAA devs. AAA devs are not people and we should all be cheering for this.

    Some quick math
    $50,000 a year x 1,900 = £95,000,000 in savings.

Not bad tbh, probably all talentless homosexuals who do data entry all day and other non-jobs

My name is not essential... What truly matters are my intentions. I have grown weary of the game development industry and those who seem content with its imperfections. My life has become a frigid, relentless dissatisfaction... and I've long harbored a desire for change within the realm of game development. This is the era of restructuring, and no developer is untouchable. I will advocate for their dismissal as often as possible. It's time for me to voice my concerns... and it's time for them to face the consequences of their actions. My campaign for improvement within game development begins here!

All the best games were made by small teams. Large studios now have insane bloat and bureaucracy and it's led to dogshit games we have now that take 6 years to make, cost a bazillion dollars, and suck.

    >Blizzard wants to form a union
Beautiful, every industry should have one.

    >Blizzard management baits the workers into signing agreements that they won't vote for a union, and the union fails
I wonder how everyone lost their jobs?

Here, take this Blizzard employees. It's what you deserve for voting against your worker rights and further ruining the industry.

      >Lazy unproductive homosexuals for a union
      >Can't get legally fired or demoted even if everyone knows they're shit
      >Employer now only employs through 1 year contracts that must be extended afterwards
And this is why we can't have good things. Kill all commies.

Keeping the job you're bad at is not a worker right. It's just taking place from somebody else who deserves it. Because of the fact that you can't fire somebody who does nothing for you most of tech companies are stuck in eternal loop: their seniors leave for startups/own business because you can't give them proper promotion, they can't mass hire juniors because they can't fire shit ones later, but slackers stay and are very well comfortable with position they have, while asking for yearly salary bump to cover inflation. That causes 2 things, first - requirements for all positions rise drastically; second - the quality of the products fall drastically, because shit people don't want to improve and can only do shit from example. This is very observable in game industry, if you compare requirements of any developer position with the same position 10 years ago, you will see that now you need like 1-2 extra years of practical experience for each. And at the same time quality is all time low, games are unoptimized shit that can't run on hardware 10 times stronger than hardware 10 years ago. Mass layoffs are good, because all the trash was booted and new talented people actually have a chance of joining.

Guess DEI and ESG is finally drying up. Highly doubt anything will change though.

Institutional changes happen slowly. It took 10 years to get games into this state, it will take same time to make them good again.

It's odd that you guys are assuming the HR diversity hires are the ones getting laid off, and not random low-level devs who just want to make games. In all likelihood, the HR people are the ones doing the firing.

By Checking accounts of most laid off workers you could see they weren't even close to game dev, but literally stuff like community managers. Actual coders at blizzard are probably never going anywhere ever, because WOWs frankenstein engine is a clusterfrick of archaic disorganized bullshit.
        Those were literal, actual leeches.
