Man I fricking hate the Crash community, Toys for Bob comes and after 18 years they are the first developer ever to not only get Crash Bandicoot right, but also improve the formula and fix a lot of mistakes.
Toys for Bob took the formula from Crash 1 and actually told a coherent story, desingned the levels around all the Crash moveset and solved the problems of the powers breaking the games like in Crash 3 and what did they got? Butthurt ungrateful motherfrickers that got humbled hard because Toys for Bob actually respects you as a player and gave you a challenge.
It's like they forgot how shit every single game after the ND era was and shat on IAT just because they got filtered by the difficulty.
I have to addmit that was a big mistake from them, but the majority of the criticism I see only is that the game is "too difficult" and that Crash games "weren't supposed to be difficult".
The bastards have been playing the same 3 games for 2 decades since they were kids, of course they won't find the original Crash games difficult at all.
You soon realize in Crash 4 that the levels that took you 50 lives to pass the first time actually just cost you 4 the second time, you adapt and learn
crash 4 is not and has never been difficult, it's just annoying
mirror mode is annoying
hiding crates offscreen is annoying
long as frick levels is annoying
none of it is difficult— you can find the crates if you comb every edge, it's just annoying. mirror mode doesn't make the levels harder, it just makes you replay them again but it feels weird, which is annoying. long levels aren't more difficult, you just have to strap in for longer and longer until you're sitting there going "holy frick when does this END" because it's ANNOYING
if crash 4 was actually halfway decent it would have taken influence from the more recent Donkey Kong Country games and upped the spectacle and theme of tightly designed, challenging, fun levels thta make you think about exactly how your moveset works, but it doesn't, because crash 4 has no interest in being anything but fricking annoying
No one complained about 4 being hard you homosexual. The worst thing about 4 is trying to be a completionist when you have long as frick levels and crates hidden is such stupid places that is a pain in the ass to want to enjoy the game to full completion. It's like that one crate hidden in 2 or 3 in a very out of the way spot, but make that worse and it isn't just one short level, but several long levels. I would say the designs are bad as well, but that's more subjective than objective but more people hate the new designs than like.
The artstyle is subjective yes, but you have to admit they solved the "walking down the aisle" structire of the original trilogy by opening up the levels and having a lot of long drawing distances. I actually think TfB have a great art department

This is the type of criticism I don't get, the perfect relics exist, you are not going to get a level perfect in your first try, so more than one playthrough is expected.
You just need to do the Nverted level ONE (1) time to get all the gems again and in the best of cases you actually get the perfect relic there or in the worst of cases it serves as a practice run for the perfect relic because (if you are not shit at the game, which of course you are) will take you less than 3 deaths
Nsane Trilogy and the decision of ignoring the original way to get the gems in Crash 1 have been a disaster for the community, a bunch of completionist babies that want every single collectible being handed to them.
They got buckbroken and are coping witht he fact they don't have the skill to do it.
I enyojed my way to 106% but can see how other people don't find it fun, looking at walkthroughs so you can find the moronic hidden boxes can be off putting to some people, it certainly didn't ruin my experience tho
In the Crash series going for completion isn't purely hyper autismo OCD stuff, they often locked the true ending behind getting all the gems and maybe some relics. They usually didn't make it crazy difficult or tedious, either. So I'd say making getting 100% in Crash 4 so tedious and timewasting is a mark against it.

The powers didn't break crash 3, if anything the problem was that the later levels didn't utilise them in any fun way. And fruit bazooka should have been the last unlock.

I'm pretty sure everyone is generally in agreement that Twinsanity would have been great if it were actually finished, and as it stands now it's still pretty cool.
It's such a shame that Twinsanity development got rushed, that game has a lot of bugs that really affect the experience in a bad way, I remember having to do all the section leading to Dingodile boss fight just because I got a little disoriented.
Also the Aku protecting you from nothing was really annoying.

But the fact that they were in the COD mines and pressured by Activision made of this game with reused assets being stucked in development hell.

As for the game, the biggest problem is how inconsistent the game is.
For example, you have two conditions that require you to not die to get a reward(less than 3 deaths and N.Sanely perfect) BUT it does two things the originals and even WoC didn't do. >1. It DOES NOT count deaths before the first checkpoint
Since technically speaking you're still doing the level in one try. It still dings your lives but you can take a death route if you make it there. In Crash 4 it counts deaths from the start so you need to restart the level.
Which brings me to point 2 >2. The Restart Level option RELOADS THE WHOLE FRICKING LEVEL AND CUTSCENE
WHO THE FRICK THOUGHT THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA? Why do we need to reload the whole level and sit through a long ass loading screen when all you have to do is change the death value back to 0 and drop the player at the start of the level. Worse still WHY DO YOU NEED TO LOAD IN THE FRICKING CUTSCENE?

CTR remake truly is the king of Crash games. It was a celebration of everything. Monthly free updates with absolute randomers from mobile games getting added, it was crazy.
Crash 4 was better than the vast majority of things they could've done with the franchise, as evidenced by the Crash Bandicoot MOBA they went for immediately afterwards. It being not at all worth going for 100% on doesn't make it trash, it's still fun for a playthrough.
Still expected, not all of them were digital artist and althought I can see the devs from other areas desperately trying the best to adapt in that role, they eventually got fired once Crash Team Rumble flopped

N Sane Trilogy and Nitro Fueled were great. The Grand Prix days were the best days ever in the Crash community. Crash 4 was a chore and never bothered with the MOBA thing they did. Trying to turn Crash into Fortnite just proved how out of teach with reality the developers were. Clown world was been going on for a long time but I feel like something happened at the start of 2020 where we all ended up in the worst timeline and have been trapped there ever since.

I'm pretty sure everyone is generally in agreement that Twinsanity would have been great if it were actually finished, and as it stands now it's still pretty cool.
It's such a shame that Twinsanity development got rushed, that game has a lot of bugs that really affect the experience in a bad way, I remember having to do all the section leading to Dingodile boss fight just because I got a little disoriented.
Also the Aku protecting you from nothing was really annoying.

My theory is Activision realized Crash is just not worth the time investment if you can employ those same devs to design Call of Duty Warzone skins and gain more profit with just 3 months of work.
So they pushed Toys for Bob to make a bank with the franchise or frick off, I'm sure Team Rumble was going to be an extra mode for Crash 4 that would drop along the release of the PC version as a free DLC. But the fact that they were in the COD mines and pressured by Activision made of this game with reused assets being stucked in development hell.

As for the game, the biggest problem is how inconsistent the game is.
For example, you have two conditions that require you to not die to get a reward(less than 3 deaths and N.Sanely perfect) BUT it does two things the originals and even WoC didn't do.

Since technically speaking you're still doing the level in one try. It still dings your lives but you can take a death route if you make it there. In Crash 4 it counts deaths from the start so you need to restart the level.
Which brings me to point 2

N Sane Trilogy and Nitro Fueled were great. The Grand Prix days were the best days ever in the Crash community. Crash 4 was a chore and never bothered with the MOBA thing they did. Trying to turn Crash into Fortnite just proved how out of teach with reality the developers were. Clown world was been going on for a long time but I feel like something happened at the start of 2020 where we all ended up in the worst timeline and have been trapped there ever since.
