>the new publisher put out a release date
New publisher?
Release date for what?
I'm not googling details for this dead game, either tell me more or don't make a thread about it
Another publisher bought the rights and is going to launch its own Global ToS server. Separate from the Steam one.
So basically a fresh start with a different publisher.
>Global ToS server. Separate from the Steam one.
I won't put 150 hours for a fresh start on the off chance it's going to be the same shit or worse.
Yeah it's not a redesign of the game or even an old build. Might be fun for a few weeks.
Let me know in a year how that all goes for you guys
>So basically a fresh start with a different publisher.
And nothing is really changing about the game? They are not reverting any of the terrible decisions they made to the level progression or the reverting the changes to the class progression that ruined all the uniqueness it had? Ok cool.
Unless the devs change, there is no way to salvage this piece of shit.
>Another Publisher
Lmao
i have about 1500 hours in this game SA server.
but the whales(gms disguised) ruled the server.
what fucked me more was the unbalanced of the classes.
it started good, but they fucked up, with giving mount to unmounted classes fucking mounting classes advantage.
in the end it all came to be the mage class, to latter it all came to be item RNG.
it had VERY potential to be another ragnarok on SA. but it was very sad how things went.
turned on to a cashgraber moron server.
it would´ve been better to put a monthly fee.
i hope what you are saying it´s true, but they need to balance right, because centurion was almost never used because they fucked the classes purpose with unbalanced logic.
well i know what you mean, i just hope there is not a lot of bots again.
>a fresh start
why would anyone want that
Fresh launches can be successful for dead games but in this case seems like they failed to drum up any sort of hype. I'm assuming the monetization will be the worst kind of P2W shit. Picked the worst possible release date too overlapping with Diablo 4's launch.
In some alternate universe they reworked ToS to be a great game and then relaunched it for massive success.
this review summed up a lot of the issues https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_a6Q_JIpLLs
everything is so busy, terrible ui, and like most modern games it was made to milk you
they would have to fix all of that, plus terrible quests, horrible engine, terrible map design, and so many more like botting, economy, dupes, basically a brand new game
I sold my 3090 ti because there isn't a single game that I wan to play, I just want something like ToS or RO but single player or coop, I really like the world, artstyle and combat
>I just want something like ToS or RO but single player or coop, I really like the world, artstyle and combat
Same, man, I love exploring and the simple skill based real time gameplay most MMOs have.
The closest singleplayer experience I got to that was xenoblade chronicles.
Soooo it still has the same shitty problems then. A fresh start is meaningless if the game is still filled with the shit that makes it suck like way to many worthless classes and all that P2W shit.
Can't believe a company actually scammed themselves buying hosting rights for this flop.
I would buy the right for ToS if I had the money. But then I would proceed to dismantle the game and reverse basically every patch and rebalance made in the last 6 years.
Nobody really understands what is Papaya's angle on this. Tree of Savior is a sinking ship. A very beautiful and luxurious ship but a sinking one nonetheless.
Depending on the licensing, you may not be allowed to change the game as you please.
It might work if they reworked the entire game around grinding and scrapped like all the quests it has. The combat was pretty fun.
WoW made this the default system for mmoombrains and it sold so that's what we get forever. Feels bad.
Worst timeline.
The game launched grind heavy and only maybe a couple hundred people actually went past the 220 wall.
I kind of want to play again but I don't think Futureproof is gonna come back and I don't have the time to grind like an autist anymore
I'll be rushing a Templar to remake Futureproof. My expectations are low but who knows? Maybe it won't be 100% terrible.
Save your Talt for me. Is that even still a thing?
It was grind heavy because the game was unfinished and the devs lowered the XP rate to avoid people running out of content. But the game wasn't designed for grinding so there was pretty much nowhere to grind. There was that one non-instance dungeon at like ~75 and another at ~130 but everywhere else had like no spawns from what I remember.
Instead of shitty linear quest focused zones they should've made them open with plenty of mobs providing players variety of camps for grinding. Questing for XP in MMORPGs was a mistake.
>But the game wasn't designed for grinding so there was pretty much nowhere to grind
You are straight up wrong, a lot of older maps have specialized mechanics for grinding that spawn monsters, but due to MMO laziness people just grinded the same maps (Demon Prison, BEES, Alamemth Forest, Abbey). But a lot of maps had weird gimmicks and heavy spawns most people didn't engage with.
I guess people weren't aware of them at launch. I remember that people flooded into Demon Prison because there was nothing else and it seemed like you ran out of EXP cards if you kept using them instead of leveling at Demon Prison.
This was funny
I remember people were so desperate that they would try to dupe the last cards they managed to acquire
>grind is still the same
i am sad at every kmmo created
>1.5m views about the TOS W announcement

Yes they bot.
because it's an ad, you get a shitload of views but no interaction
bot or it being an advertisement
I only remember I used to afk in bee area with three summoner/necro accounts using skeleton archers and templeshooter
The artstyle in this game is gorgeous, I wish they didn't waste it on a MMO
I don't know if you gays have realized it yet but the main problems of the game are the core mechanics of the base game not some greedy publisher like the turbo garden gnomes of EA shitting up the game.
This changes absolutely nothing.
I mean the token was pretty shitty but yeah the game's problems go way deeper than that. No clue what they changed over the years but I can't see them ever fixing the core problems without going back to the drawing board.
>the core mechanics of the base game
that's not true at all. exploding screens is fun.
monetization practices are not "core mechanics of the game"
the game was fucked up at launch because of greedy gnomish business practices, not because the game is bad
>the game was fucked up at launch because of greedy gnomish business practices, not because the game is bad
The game definitely had some major problems as launch that went far beyond the monetization.

i lost count
I'm stuck in XIV now, sorry. They lost my faith ages ago, MMOs typically don't get good reboots.
what job are you gonna play for the tier
I decided to stop raiding because it was cutting into my time too much and my group struggled a lot with the last tier and it finally occurred to me that I felt like I spent a lot of time every tier waiting for other people to catch up on mechanics and that was just frustrating and not fun. I like SAM currently tho.
fair, im on the verge of doing that myself but its the last tier so im powering through
Do your best, friend! I wish you a swift and painless clear. What are you playing and how are you liking the current patch? I've been too busy working on cosplay and haven't had a chance to log in yet.
i am playing bard and i teally enjoyed some of the fights this patch, namely 12 and the trial. havent done the ex yet though, doing that blind with my group tomorrow
what cosplay?
I hope you have fun! I'm going as Ran from Touhou, I've been hard at work making lots of fluffy tails. I leave for my con tomorrow so I probably won't get a chance to actually play until sometime next week.
holy cute, hope you have fun too anon, that looks like a lot of fun to put together
It'll be a lot of fun! I'm actually meeting up with a bunch of friends I met from /xivg/ there. If you happen to need an FC or just wanna swing by to chat sometime, please feel free to stop by on Excalibur @ Empyreum W7P60!
im on balmung so i wouldnt be able to join or anything but sure i'll head over in like a week or so!
I look forward to it!
Momo Con. It should be a good time, I've never been to Atlanta.
What con?
What the fuck do you play that game for then? The chat room? erp?
You know you can always just quit like everyone else
There are plenty of things to do in the game, retard
xivchuds
Nah
what is it that compels you to shit up all sorts of threads that have nothing to do with your garbage game?
I was simply replying to a question you fucking mongoloid
the story?
the community?
the fun?
what kind of dumb bullshit question is this
I wish my friend would stop raiding :[ shit really takes so much time. When I used to play it felt like I was all wanderlust and they were all business. Nowadays I just socialize.
monk, fingers crossed noclippy is back by then
...Are these the same people that put flossing in their recent videos?
What is this the third time now?

What?
Whats the point of buying the rights and releasing the wreck of a MMO that is tree of savior without any actual fixes?
werent you arrested for pedophilia?
>random nonsense response
So theres no answer to the question, huh?
Not much hope for the re-release, it seems.
don't you participate in doom modding by any chance?
Is doomentio your friend?
I'm curious was this guy arrested for pedophilia?
i miss u
I've been enjoying Yamada-kun using this game as inspiration but I wish it was ran by competent devs. They only seemed to pull their shit together years late and then went off the deep end with other horrible decisions. There's an immense amount of fat to be trimmed
A new publisher who only hosts the game won't fix it. All release versions of this game are korean rng grind shit and it only got worse with each update. The only good update I can think of was the DPK removal. They tried bank on RO nostalgia while not knowing what made RO great.
imagine caring about ToS in 2023
yikes
I just wanted RO2, bwo
>RO2
People still going on about this shit in 2023.
This would not have worked in 2016 when TOS came out and certainly not in 2023. There are millions of free private RO servers out there, so why play an inferior Ragnarok clone with outdated mechanics?
The anime style MMORPG has moved on to Gacha / Open World. That's where the money is and not a carbon copy of a game released in 2002.
>Brazil of Savior
who cares
Never played it and heard it had a miserable launch and died pretty quickly, but the music, the fucking music is so good.
Me and my friends were so excited for this because it was like the successor to Ragnarok Online back in the day. We even bought it early to get early access. We were so disappointed that it was shit. I'll just wait for reviews if they made it better
Unless they got the rights to actually change things in the code I doubt it's any different. Even if they are allowed to change stuff the lists of required fixes would be very long and you cannot fix everything without starting development from scratch.
>mmo
miss me with that shit
The only thing they can do to save TOS is buying it and redesigning the thing into a sandbox game similar to stuffs like Elona. That way they can reuse almost all the assets, including the art and music.
they nerf my pvp class so I stop playing it
it used to be able to crash everyone clients on command but they fix that so my build is useless now
damnit anon I thought you were referring to the new Papaya Play server, not some random korean shit filled with bots
I'll be skipping this one
The 3d enemies were so soulless I could never get into it. Bring back the RO cartoon sprites.
Played this on launch, would fight some enemies then had to stand around waiting 2 minutes or something for them to respawn. Was just like what the fuck?
why do xivchuds take over every single mmo related thread? where the fuck do you freaks keep crawling in from?
ragnarok if he bad
The best memory I have about this game is tricking some gay here to paint a dick on his forehead for a beta key I didn't have.
That being said, I have nothing to do next week, what iteration of this game is this? Is it good?
Is it good?
No
Scoop?
Game is still shit btw.
Always thought it looked interesting. What exactly is shit about it?
All I know is that it has like 50 different classes and I assume that only 5-6 of them are actually interesting or useful.
There are a lot of classes but only some are really viable.
Also there is a fatigue system that limits you how much you could do in one day.
No, the class system and its variety is actually one of the big advantages of the game.
The issue is the insane gear grind and new gear types being added pretty much every month with RNG layers upon RNG layers to enhance them.
>300+ levels with stats having only minor impact as 90% of damage and shit comes from gear
>layers of RNG with daily limited raids that give you a gacha chest so you can use the loot in there for even more raids and gacha chests
>0.% loot with "please collect 100 of them"
>+40 upgrade limit with non-linear scaling, downgrades and item breaking after too many fails
>randomized gear
>monsters just try to run at you and attack. Some ranged monsters used to flat out OS you on sight even if you had the appropriate level for the zone.
>not sure if they ever fixed it but KB/M was a late addition and there used to be objects you couldnt interact with unless you switched the control mode
>runs like utter shit cause netcode and rendering is tied to each other so once you have ten players on screen enjoy 20 fps. Attack speed is tied to ping making again the stat system even more crappy.
>linear world with fucktons of maps and even more boring ass quests. Other than dungeons no need to group up and for those you have a queue unless it's something no one does
>in general zones aren't thematically connected to each other - doesn't feel like a connected world
>nearly all loot you get from monsters is borderline useless and only exists for collections. Selling them to NPC gives you literally just 1 coin
>developers only care about what the korean playerbase says
I could go on.
>developers only care about what the korean playerbase says
Is there even any developer that cares about its players outside of their home region?
The joke is that the steam version is hosted by the developers. They have some english speakers there managing it but they barely give a fuck. Unless it changed the Forums have been nothing but shitting on the devs and how fucked up the game is ever since release.
non ironically Lost Ark global is very different from korea
>Attack speed is tied to ping making again the stat system even more crappy.
I stopped playing because the lag on the US servers was so bad playing from EU and EU servers were dead because they were added after launch so everyone had already committed to playing. They even gave out transfers but it did nothing.
I played on EU while being in EU and even there you could only get at best 1/3 of the attack speed you should have but only if the instance was empty. The game wasn't designed for a ping above 50 ms.
The launch was a shitshow. The game was straight up broken and had a bunch of hacks and exploits because the devs apparently had no clue how to make an MMORPG. It was only second to New World in that sense but not as popular so the information about how terrible it was didn't spread that much. I wish I had saved/recorded some of the shit back then. There was shit like remotely completing quests all around the game from the starting zone to breaking the class restrictions and picking whatever classes you wanted to attacking everything on the screen disregarding any target limits or attack ranges.
On top of all that the game was released heavily unfinished. The content kinda just ran out and they had set the xp multiplier such that you ran out of quests and had to grind to progress BUT the game wasn't designed around grinding so there were almost no good spots to grind in. If you kept questing through level ranges that had good grinding spots you could soft-brick your character by getting stuck in level ranges where there were nothing good to farm on so you'd take forever to level up. Them going for a questing focus in the first place was a mistake. The combat was fun and it really should've been a grinding based game like RO was. In that sense the devs didn't understand their audience despite pretending to be a spiritual successor to RO.
Then there was the whole token shit. If you didn't have a token you were a second class citizen in the game. Sure you could buy tokens with ingame money from other players but good luck earning that much without a token since it limited you so heavily.
So I’m getting that the main problem is that the end game sucks balls due to too much RNG shit?
Is the basic loop before that at least entertaining? If a drag a friend into it could we have some fun before end game or is it a headache all the way through
>could we have some fun before end game
Building a character from all the different class choices is very fun for a while, but otherwise Imagine playing Diablo with underpowered enemies and no interesting loot.
>Building a character from all the different class choices is very fun for a while
They changed the system at some point and removed circles. Now you can only pick two (or three?) advancing classes as whole with all circles. No more rainbow characters made of 7 circle 1 classes.
What the fuck? Why castrate the last pillar your piece of shit of a game stands on?
The only "advantage" this system has is that you could instantly go for e.g. Musketeer at your first job change but it removes a lot of complexity and depth for simplification. They also split off classes that usually use offhand based shit into a fifth Scout Class.
The Scout class sounds supremely retarded. So they basically ripped all the classes that would drastically change gear setups out of the main 4 and made it into a specialist class?
>made it into a specialist class?
Kinda so you can fully commit to dagger/pistol as main weapon. Classes like e.g. Cannoneer are still part of their respective tree. Scout also covers utility/farming classes like Corsair, Linker and Thauma for some odd reason. I can understand this change though. Many dagger or pistol based classes didn't work with others of the same tree so they were far more restrictive or you had to pick something you'd never use. However this also removed some fun combinations like Bullet Marker and Quarrel Shooter doing run and dual gun.
>Many dagger or pistol based classes didn't work with others of the same tree so they were far more restrictive or you had to pick something you'd never use.
I think a lot of that was due to how they kept changing what could be used in MH and OH. If swords, daggers, pistols and 1h crossbows were all both MH and OH it would've made it way more functional. They kept making some really weird choices and had to change the classes as a result. I think it ultimately let to the creation of the Scout class because they couldn't make them make sense. Though still there was a lot of weirdness in there. IIRC Rogue was the first Archer class you could get that had anything to do with melee and a lot of the choices leading up to it didn't make much sense. And then the melee portions of Rogue were garbage. Well the whole class was terrible when I played it.
>Sure Ranger was super strong early but If you wanted Musketeer or Schwarzer Reiter it didn't add anything to your build.
Yeah I suppose it only mattered early on with how the balance was but it made your leveling journey so much smoother. I only got to like level 150 before I quit because of all the problems the game had back then.
Pistols were originally intended to be a MH weapon. Schwarzer Reiter used to be a Pistol/Shield class till they eventually made Pistol OH. Bullet Marker then came with a skill that replicates your Pistol to be both MH and OH which was also pretty weird but hey dual wielding looked cool.
I had an Archer3/Hunter3/Appraiser/Musketeer3 I think at the end for pvp. I used Rush Dog and then looped my single target CC skills forever. The only problem was that all Clerics had infinite amounts of block so not a single attack went through. Archers were all in all pretty mediocre outside of some falconer builds for the AoE in pve. Clerics were beyond busted on the other hand.
>Clerics and infinite blocking
Fuck that shit man. I forgot, what was it that made them have so much block anyway?
Priest stone skin which gave 4x your spirit as block lol, they took that mechanic out I think it is percentile damage reduction now.
Cause of the crappy stat system. All stats beside Con used to be shit as all damage you did came from the weapon and Con gives you both HP and higher block with shield. Since magic cannot miss all you needed on your cleric was a +12 weapon. Pump everything into Con to run around with 40k hp, infinite block, sustain thanks to heals and damage straight out of hell. They eventually reworked the stat system but it's still bad.
>Pistols were originally intended to be a MH weapon.
Whatever it was the way they had set it up fucked so many builds with those weapon restrictions. Really poor design. From what I remember each change that was intended to fix something also fucked over some other build. Most of it wouldn't have been an issue if they weren't MH/OH specific.
I haven't played it with the changes so I don't know how it is but it seems like overall a good change. You still get your starting class + 3 classes. A lot of the old builds were absolutely retarded due to how you had to pick a bunch of random circles just to get where you wanted to be. The original skill balance was also terrible but I don't know how it is now. Originally anything that multihitted was OP because of how things scaled.
I hate that they fucked with the mainhand/offhand items. Hackapell was supposed to be a sword+gun class but then it turned into a sword+1hcrossbow class and eventually became a Swordsman class with no ranged at all. Makes me fucking mad as a Finn.
https://treeofsavior.com/page/news/view.php?n=2485
Wait actually what. They added a new version of the class as a Scout that has the gun skills.
Swordsman version
https://treeofsavior.com/page/class/view.php?c=Hackapell
Scout version
https://treeofsavior.com/page/class/view.php?c=Hakkapeliter
Fuck maybe I have to try this new server just to see if that's any fun.
I personally didn't mind it except for the very few cases when the class circles overlapped and you wanted both. In this case you had to come up with a compromise. Falc 3 and Musketeer 2 or Fence 3 and Matador 2 was one of those cases back in the day I think. Those restrictions however also encouraged creativity. I ended up picking Ninja on my Fencer as filler class and it became my favourite character. I laughed my ass off every time I played it. Naruto running around with a shadow clone army honhonhon'ing enemies with the rapier was pure kino. For min/maxing the new system is obviously better but it surely reduced the fun factor.
>For min/maxing the new system is obviously better but it surely reduced the fun factor.
I feel like previously you were limited by the system and encouraged to minmax by creating the few good combinations that were possible and this new system SEEMS to be better suited for picking what you want to play. Maybe they went a bit too far in the other direction. It's a bit weird if you can pick anything at low level.
Like I remember how going full on Ranger was pretty much the only option for Archer at launch because it was so much stronger than all the other options. It sort of felt like you were gimping your character if you didn't go Ranger 3. Of course that probably changed many times before this new system even got in the game but anyway. Going off my memories from 7..? years ago so it's not very detailed.
Obviously there were meta builds but technically everything was possible as long as your combination had aoe clear, the weapon restrictions on the skills overlapped and most importantly you had the gear for it. Only my first character had a meta build but I rerolled it to something more fun and I still managed cause of my gear.
>going full on Ranger was pretty much the only option for Archer at launch
Archer 3 was very mandatory duo to the self buff skills and the attributes on C3 but not Ranger cause of the bow weapon requirement. Sure Ranger was super strong early but If you wanted Musketeer or Schwarzer Reiter it didn't add anything to your build.
>Collect X quest
>interact with X quest
>Kill X quest
If you like doing this kind of stuff on absolutely every map multiple times till endgame. I guess?
I haven't touched the game in years so I couldn't say what it's like now but I have to admit despite all its problems I still sort of had fun with it back when it launched.
Game bad. Developers incompetent.
Yet another Korean game designed for 20ms ping.
>Is the basic loop before that at least entertaining?
sort of but not really. the quests are kinda boring. advancing class is interesting though.
I ain't reading allat
TL;DR?
>There was shit like remotely completing quests all around the game from the starting zone
I don't remember this, proof?
I don't have proof this was 7 years ago. I remember anons posting in the general back then with proof. Pretty sure there was webms. I remember someone breaking the class system and he did it all from the starting zone. My memories are pretty vague at this point but it was something like for the quests that didn't really have any conditions you could complete remotely by passing the right command to the server. So some anon did that and then picked whatever classes he wanted because he also found a way to do that.
I have some random KR beta screenshots saved for some reason but couldn't find any of the massive exploits. It might sound ridiculous but the game was seriously broken. They gave the client far too much authority.
It's true, I was there.
https://forum.treeofsavior.com/t/exploit-infinite-quest-rewards-and-unrestricted-class-switching/123654
Found some proof on google.
Chronomancers were so cute bros
Dmn was such a fucking hero, he saved our guild from that one people figured out anybody could /breakguild, not just the guild leader.
He used the exploits to reinvite everyone back remotely, saving the guild from being deleted.
This game is one of the biggest wastes of graphics in history of gaming, thanks to retarded devs
You will never be Ragnarok Online.
>I know you fags still lurk here.
Sure, but only to post this image in every ToS discussion.
while monsters are something I like about RO, exploding screens is still fun. enemies are not the reason ToS was dogshit.
The enemies are absolutely one of the reasons ToS sucks. Exploding entire screens worth of enemies feels like you just entered a cheat code that made you overpowered, the fun lasts maybe 30 minutes. You have all these class and skill combinations but in the end they only serve the purpose of making the screen explode.
I even played some single target focused builds but that just makes the bad enemy design even more obvious.
Nah I still think exploding screens is fine. But of course the exploding screen experience could have been improved in other ways.
It still hurts anon...
It's alright, the Hunter Flies can't hurt you anymore.
I still hear their sounds sometimes in my 'something is chasing me' dreams
I still get the brain impulse for moving my finger toward the Fly Wing / Teleport button when I hear fly buzzing.
Sounds like Diablo 2 vs Diablo 3/4 and PoE
Ironically Diablo 3 had some dangerous memorable monsters early on after release, but gutted and "balanced" everything over time, now all monsters equally do nothing and die.
they sure picked a great launch date right as d4 is coming out
It's time to get all the crew back together.
Isn't this only for Asia?
The original Dev of the game is IMC games. They self publish the game on Steam for global release and had Nexon do the Asian version.
Nexon tapped out and gave the servers back to IMC in Asia, and they merged them all into one.
This is one thing, not what we're talking here.
Papaya Play bought the rights and is making their own Global server, not based on Steam. This is going to be in English and hosted in Canada.
>This is going to be in English and hosted in Canada.
ah so yuros can't play again that's fucking great
Be glad you can play at all. You know what happened to yuros playing on official RO servers, right?
>go kill x of this monster
>congratulations here is your slightly beter orange equipment
>skip skip skip dialog
>go kill x of this monster
>repeat forever
nah
Still amazes me how tf the game can survive. Last time I checked EU server was almost empty like with almost no one afk at town. I also want to try it again but I remember the amount of addons and tweaks you needed to make the game not feel like shit was pure aids
ToS had addons?
>likes to play meme shit like Hunter, Sapper and Falconeer
Fwee.
>My main was hunter
>constantly have to deal with the AI bugging cause of shit coding
>every pet consumed one character slot so hunter/falc required three character slots
lmao fucking koreans
The best iteration of Hunter and the pet AI is the very first one from iCBT2 and this is a hill I'm willing to die on.
Yeah it was obtuse and hard to control but once you understood how it worked, I was able to make my pet do everything I wanted without fail.
The way pet targetting worked was different from how the bow auto-attackeds did, which is why so many people go upset about the pets just going off and attack Crystals instead.
In reality all you had to do was look into the general direction of what you wanted, "assign" it as a target with a few auto attacks and the pet would auto use skills on its own. There was no need to hit any buttons unless you wanted to change targets halfway.
The most fun build was my first character, an Archer1>QuarrelShooter3>Rogue2>Cannoneer. I just held Running Shot the whole time while Rogue provided me with some backstab thing that worked on ranged attacks - when Running Shot ended I would break out the big dick cannon for 30 seconds until the RS cooldown was over. As far as I understand such a build is no longer possible.
Rogue is now part of Scout but the rest still works. They added more weapon specific classes to the respective trees like Tiger Hunter for rifle or in your case Matross for Cannoneer so you have more Cannon skills at hand. Likewise you could pick now Scout with Rogue and e.g. Assassin if you want more dagger action.
Yea you get used to it at some point and the class came absurd amounts of CC but there were still situations when the pet AI alt+f4'ed and stopped responding entirely. The only way to unbug it was to feed it and this also didn't always work.
My favorite part about Hunter was how, if I ran into an enemy guild player, I could just order the pet to bite and he would be entirely defenseless while slowly being mauled to death without even the chance of fighting back.
>if you want more dagger action
Nah. I built my old character for the specific combination of machine gun crossbow + dagger & grenades to play the game like Metal Slug.
I quit around the time they introduced the fashion shop in the steam version. I don't see any point in revisiting this game unless the new release removes all the P2W I heard the game devolved into.
offline Terms of Service when
yeah just like archeages server numero one thousand, it will be different this time we promise
>zoomer dances
what the hell happened to this game
wake me up when they make another ragnarok online, fuck this gay earth
I want someone to take the good ideas from ToS and make a good game with them. Might as well take the art style while you're at it.
It's an amazing piece of art that was assembled upside down. You could make the best MMO of all time from this game but it would require rebuilding a lot of it.
Starting with the client itself. The jank Unreal Engine 3 wasn't good enough on release and sure as hell isn't good enough now.
The maps too, although I wouldn't throw them out. They are gorgeous and well designed but ultimately they are often just corridors for the quest hub design. They would require editing to make spaces larger.
It really seems like there's a great game hiding in there somewhere but these developers weren't able to make it into a reality.
>no Centurion still
DEAD
GAME
can someone fill me in or send me a link with the news? will it be on steam or a separate download?
They announced May 30 release date on the Discord. Google up papaya play tree of savior.
>pre-register site doesn't even mention the start date
Yeah these guys seem like competent publishers.
>laughing whores
what are they laughing at
at their dead game
Thought I would have more ragnarok online kino with this game, instead I got p2w endgame with timelocks.
I'm surprised the live version of the game still hasn't EOS'd and is still somehow being supported.
I'm willing to give the fresh start a try though
https://steamcharts.com/app/372000
There are less than 500 players. Give it a year or 2 more.
oh nice 200k bots DAY ONE
>kicking the can down the publisher road to repeat the same shitty mistakes and fix almost nothing, perhaps even making it actively worse
The closest it's ever gotten to being Ragnarok Online.
Sometimes history repeats itself in all the wrong ways.
What's the leveling like? What's the endgame like?
Are swordies still "pop all of your skills to nuke shit and then sit still and twiddle your dick while waiting for cooldowns"?
They let you jump to max level cuz they realized how shit their system is.
Endgame is just very difficult raids with little room for error or Guild War pvp which is boring AF.
BROS im SO IN
I really wanted to like this game, but everything went downhill after the cbt
why are MMOs always peak during their betas?
>game is 100% fresh so people can explore and dick around fairly easily
>devs haven't had time to fuck up the game with retarded decisions (Whether the decisions are their own or if they're monetization-focused ones from publishers)
>betas usually end in wipes so people are often more open to a degree (no reason to care for "rep" or any cringe shit like that)
Betas are a wild period of experimentation and curiosity, something that can't be found in released MMOs since everything is solved day 1. Naturally, the wave of regular MMO players that comes with the release quickly establish a stale Meta because they loathe any kind of creativity.
The problem with most MMORPGs is that devs try to cram in crap that is secondary to the core design of the game by publisher and player mandate to further milk idiots. So quests are redesigned, systems are added, classes are rebalanced, grind is increased, bugs that people accept that it's because 'its a beta' make their way into the finished product, and remain unfixed for literal years.
It's not just players doing it, ToS was a great game before the gear treadmill was fully implemented, but after that; it became the same as any other MMO
>but everything went downhill after the cbt
Let's face it we just didn't see how fucked things were back then. We still had hope for "it's just a beta they will fix it".
>We still had hope for "it's just a beta they will fix it".
We also had hope for "There's no mandatory quest themepark, therefore we're safe forever" blind to the reality that they just didn't make it yet.
Which allowed things like making a cozy camp and leveling for hours with friends perfectly viable, if not the preferred way to level in some places.
I just want a game that caters to that comfy leveling camp experience. Why the fuck do they always shove in the quests.
It's hilarious because that's the game they advertised, they even have classes who can build camps and cook, but why would you EVER do that?
I remember when there was supposed to be classes that drove carts so you could choochoo people around to locations and classes that were entirely for commerce like in RO... Haha...
CBT1 had a bug where the campfire text would stay on your screen until you relogged, was funny.
As a new player, why should I play this instead of the steam version? These papaya guys seem extremely incompetent
Trying to start the Steam version now will probably give you a sensory overload from all the crazy shit they throw at you in the first 10 minutes.
The Steam version is 100% designed around late game whales and nothing else now. The new character experience isn't designed as if you are a new player, it's designed as if you are someone who already has maxed out characters making an alt.
What this means is that the moment you start your new character you will be assaulted by about 10 different log in bonuses giving you late-game reward items that are for mechanics and items you have no idea even exist yet before you even take your first step. Then you will walk a few steps, swing at some level 1 enemies and then realize you are now level 21 in the tutorial. If you bother following the main story quest-line, you will quickly realize all bosses die in three hits.
This is the worst and I doubt they will change anything in this release. Every fucking MMO eventually nukes its leveling experience without realizing that's the most fun part of the game.
They're making it even worse by having double xp.
top kek
is this on top of the XP cards that let you skip 100 levels anyway?
>"We're not letting you skip to 410"
>"btw have a double exp boost"
>Game systems for 410+ will still feel overwhelming as everything pre-EP 12 is ignored
btw how come appraiser is a busted class now?
The curse of endgame content focus.
I wonder if we'll ever see a new MMORPG make the leveling journey the focus. It's all muh endgame.
nta, I've unironically been dicking around in private servers for shit like FFXI for that and it's been fairly fun. Private servers tend to have their own issues though so you might have to sift through for a while.
I had fun on HorizonXI but got sick shortly after launch and felt like I fell behind even when it really didn't matter. I guess I just needed an excuse or something and now I regret not playing for months when I could've.
Why do people seem to think there is some significant difference between item leveling and xp leveling end game? You're getting stronger either way it's the same shit
Endgame is always focused around raids and lockouts and mandatory daily/weekly chores. That's very different from leveling when you have the time or when you feel like it. If the goal is some level cap that takes forever to reach then there's no need to rush. You can just enjoy the journey which is how it should be.
That's more of an issue with timegated content and releasing content with a limited shelf life, rather than a leveling vs endgame thing. Personally the best MMO experience I've had was with guild wars 1 where you reached max level very quickly and all content was balanced around max level. There were timegates or anything and you could just take your time to do all content you wanted at your own pace. The expansions didn't increase the level cap either, which meant that all old content was relevant as well.
If you play Tree of Savior right now you'll realize why it's such a huge difference.
The leveling process in an MMORPG is something that is always designed to take place across the vast majority of the game world, and MMORPGs at their core are about having a huge game world. Tree of Savior has tons of different maps, areas and enemies.
In the CBT where you leveled up slowly, you would go through each of these areas slowly, get used to each map, the enemies you're fighting, the music in the background, etc. However in the current iteration, you will kill a single digit number of enemies and then the map will be useless to you, meaning you're spending 95% of your time just running through maps quickly and then 5% actually doing something interesting. You won't remember anything enjoyable like the great music, the environments or the actual combat.
End game grinding is where game compacts as much grind into as small of a piece of content as possible, like grinding the same map, boss or dungeon hundreds of times. It might be neat at first and you'll remember how it goes, but inevitably it'll get boring and stale.
This is why more and more people are realizing that the leveling process is generally the best part of the game, because leveling up is where you access 99% of the content the game has to offer. If players are expected to spend 99% of their time on 1% of content at end game, then you have a problem.
Thank you anon for putting it to words.
There should be a focus on keeping the world relevant. Ragnarok originally did it really well with how a large variety of monsters of different levels had valuable drops. You could usually find something that gave you decent xp and had the chance of dropping something nice but you also had the option of disregarding xp and going for the super valuable drops or seeking out those maximum xp spots that might have not had much in the way of drops. The sort of openness it had is rarely seen in the genre. It was also brutal in how little guidance it gave to the players. Of course wikis trivialized a lot of that but even then I welcome it when an MMORPG just drops me in the world and leaves me to figure it out instead of making me follow a bunch of exclamation marks and waypoint markers.
Not only does the modern MMORPG scene have an obsession with rushing to the endgame, they also tend to ruin and invalidate all previous content with each update. On top of that they destroy the leveling experience like in ToS. Even if it was once decent it will inevitably get corrupted for the sake of getting people to endgame faster. It almost makes me believe that an MMORPG cannot survive the passage of time as enough updates to one will inevitably ruin it.
Yeah, I don't trust the new publisher either as long as I don't see what they've cooked up for the game.
I'll give it a try. No promises it'll be any good if it's based on the last release .
I do miss you fags a lot.
hey isn't this publisher the one who abuses the cash shop?
What the fuck is the point of this game anymore anyway?
>want to replay it with friends
>HELLO NEW PLAYER HERE'S AN ITEM TO BECOME LEVEL 50000 RIGHT AWAY
>"n-no thanks I just want to play it normally"
>play campaign with friends
>everything dies with 1-2 hits at most
OH HOW FUCKING FUN IS THAT.
Seriously what the fuck is the point?
I wanted to play the game and have fun, not just enter and skip everything ever.
>What is the point
Because the developers themselves have given up on the game and it only exists to try and squeeze money from whales.
You don't have any reason to spend money in the early game, so they want to make you a late game player as fast as possible.
They did the same thing to TERA. They realized that no one wants to play their grindy themepark because the themepark sucks and the only balancing and bugfixing they have done is at the very end game where only 10% of the playerbase currently is. So they give everyone the option to just skip there or make everything so trivial that even the most casual player makes it there in a few minutes.
TERA's entire allure for non-weebs was the giant world bosses roaming the map that you could solo if you're good enough, now die in literally one or two hits from the weakest classes. Which seems to be what ToS did as well.
They realized wrong since Tera's world and leveling experience was a joy that you never find today.
The decision is actually why the game died. It was receiving a new influx of players up until they dumbed everything down, and then it just limped along on Elin ERP bux for a decade afterwards.
Leveling was actual poop in Tera. The quests were just as bad as in every other modern MMORPG. The dungeons were good though. Before they made them cakewalks.
I leveled by grinding mobs in TERA back when said mobs could still drop items that were worth something on AH. It was fun.
I always heard about tree of saviour, but never played it because I missed the launch and heard a lot of bad thing about it afterwards.
I kind of want to try it on launch, but I've never heard about this publisher and am worried about them repeating the same mistakes the previous publisher did.
If you read, they're just using the last few builds of the engine. So it's going to have the same mistakes.
It's guaranteed to be shit if they don't make changes.
The best thing anyone here can do is wait until they actually mention if they are making changes before playing the game, but let's be real that probably won't happen.
The only changes they will make is somehow make it even more P2W then it already is.
>decade long developed game that shits itself on launch
>years after patches its just prettier shit
>so shit that even fucking Nexon drops it
>picked up by a no-name publisher on canada just so you can experience how shit it is all over again
ToS is just the gift that keeps on giving huh?
up by a no-name publisher on canada just so you can experience how shit it is all over again
Pretty much
why is this thread still up
this is obviously scammed shill shit
You're obviously lacking any critical thinking skills
Ah yes the shill thread where everyone is shitting on the game and agrees that it's trash.
Why would anyone start a MMO all over again after they nuke your progress. It reminds me of those big autistics who played Schthack again after their data was wiped.
For me it was the BR bot trains and world chat being unusable due to gold seller spam
Lol the pvp in this game was basically
>psychokinos
>everyone else
Because of the desync issues, anything that was able to keep people standing still for a measure of time was needed for PvP. Else you'd just have people chasing each other in circles and not landing any hits.
Psychokinos were just the best at that in particular, but it's not like Cryomancers and Corsairs couldn't pull their own weight either.
If you had any experience with PvP, how were cataphracts?
I remember trolling people by challenging them to duels and then abusing a bug with Cataphracts to launch them out of bounds which was basically an instant win for me. I don't know if other people figured it out though since it seemed to be in the game for so long.
Cataphracts were one of the god classes because Rush would lock people in place and the class would desynch really badly because of how fast it was
Speed was definitely one of the kings of PvP, and the ability to poke people and carry them off was amazing if you had team mates that could follow through. But not solo PvP stuff.
Endgame pvp was completely dominated by spellcasters duo to the decision that magic cannot miss or be blocked. This made Wizards but especially Clerics completely busted, latter cause they also had tools to get around CCs which where pretty broken as well. Swordie was still acceptable if you invested hard into gear but archer was borderline useless. The average match was Clerics outtanking each other while everything else died within a few seconds. There was only one dude with the best gear on the entire EU server who assraped all those spellcasters with a Cata but those fuckers eventually banned him for RMT or notting or some shit.
yep that's a classic
Have fun with your BR server ToStards.
I don't get why people bring up BRs as a problem. You can't evade them on any online game, they are everywhere. Why let it bother you?
Yes it's gorgeous even if you play it as a single player RPG. And the music is fire.
>Yes it's gorgeous even if you play it as a single player RPG
the xp rates and trivialized difficulty kinda ruin that though
>I don't get why people bring up BRs as a problem.
They are always a problem.
i would take 10 brs and 100 pinoys over a single pajeet shitting up my mmorpg
I don't know shit about this game at all except that it looks really stunning and I love Mana games. Will I get my $0 worth if I install this or is it not even worth a trial run?
>Pre-Order TOS to get into Early Access
>Wanted to go full Necro Bokor build - Nerfed
>Wanted to go Ninja - lol hidden class - all my friends quit right after I unlocked it
>Went Hybrid Wugushi build on my Archer - this was a fun one, poison spam was slow but easy as shit to mob with
It wasn't what I wanted from the game, but it was relatively fun for the couple of months I played it. Definitely was no where near the Successor to RO2 we(as in RO players) thought it would be though.
anons please help me decide my third class
I want to roll a Cataphract + Peltasta with focus on AoE damage
what third class should I go for? is Lancer only viable for PvP? what about Dragoon?
The female classes are cute, no one can ever take that away from Tree of Savior.
For me it's the cryomancer riding her big snowball
Man I remember getting into this game and quitting when I found out that high level potions are only available in the cash shop and that high level content essentially requires them so if you want to be a tank you actually just have to pay out the ass.
I didn’t play after they started raids and stuff, was dedicated healer not enough? Kabbalists could heal stupid amounts
What's the difference between these? Which would you play if you've never played any of them before?
>Which would you play if you've never played any of them before?
NovaRO or the PreRe private server of the week.
I played on some RO server a couple yrs ago and an anon showed me the ropes for like an hour and called me a gay a lot. It was nice. I can't remember which it was, just that it was marketed as pre-gay decisions that killed the game. And that a lot of anons were in it.
RO private servers are garbage as they maintain the problems that killed the game.
What's a good class for a new player?
The cutest one
what
said. Really can't go wrong with cute.
It's too late.
>Game's original launch
>Man this art is great and top down JRPG's are cool
>Gameplay is absolute dogshit
>Mobs are just walking sacks of HP to be farmed, not combatants
>Combat consists of spamming one attack over and over with zero thought put in
>Get access to 1000000 single target CC skills when there's nothing in the game wotrth using them on
ToS really proved to me that korean devs are utterly incapable of making entertaining combat. There is something wrong with them.
Combat was actually the only good thing about the game at launch. Well the art is of course brilliant.
Did they ever finish the story?
I actually liked following it
That's one of my motivations for going back too.
you know what, fuck it, i will try playing this again.
at least until the blue protocol server open up.
is rifle good in this game? im looking into classes and from what i see i can use Musketeer or Arquebusier as base with Appraiser/
Pied Piper/Tiger Hunter as the side.
is there a guide somewhere i can read? i want to make a cute girl with a rifle.
dont know past the class remake but all you want in the endgame is AoE clear and Musketeer felt in this department kinda short having one AoE spread shot, one line shot with push back and the rest was pretty much single target with ricochet or buffs for auto attacks that stacked well with e.g. Quarrel Shooters Running Shot. Tiger Hunter would be the obvious choice as additional class and as third at least back in the day Falconer was popular for the AoE Boost, Quarrel Shooter cause of the running shot buff (but might require a crossbow as secondary to ge tthe most out of it) and obviously all classes that didn't have weapon restrictions on the skills like Appraiser/Pied/Hunter/Sapper/Wugushi.
so its fine for boss but you need something else for mobs? should i even care about that? i assume most endgame is rading but if you say its what we need to today then i guess i could check something.
can i change classes after i get then or can i respec?
Endgame used to be that they throw assloads of hp sponge monsters at you. Boss damage was kinda secondary. I had a Musketeer cause I also like rifles but it was my least useful character sadly till I eventually rerolled it using event stuff. But take this information with a grain of salt. The class rework was like 3 or 4 years ago but going through the Tiger Hunter skills rifles still seem to be a more Boss/PvP focues weapon. Respec was possible but only with cash outside of events and they used to have Class reset events here and there, at least with every new batch of class releases or if a class was reworked but this also might have changed. Archer was the weakest class tree all in all sadly.
What MMO is Ganker currently playing? I want to play something new.
We got a crew from Ganker playing Ragnarok Online on a server called DeviruchiClub but the server is quickly going defunct. Some of us are hype for moving to this ToS server which will conveniently come next week. We know it's going to be awful most likely but should tide us over for a few weeks.
>We know it's going to be awful most likely but should tide us over for a few weeks.
Longer than the average RO server lasts.
bros... the memories... they're all coming back... I don't want to go back...
Downloaded on steam. Who do I want to be?
Anon, you fucked up.
Anon, you are about to play a game so terrible that even Nexon wanted nothing to do with it. Just think about that for a second before you waste your time.
I can't complete the first quest, they do 60 damage, I have 300 hp, They have 600 hp, and I do 30 damage, and there's four of them.
I forgot how buggy this game was. Did you beat this before they nerfed it? Before R9 came out.
I never made it past F5 cause all my classes where either fun and thus off meta or didn't have the gear requirement. Shit was retarded anyway. With token you had to grind daily 2h for 6 months to get the entire set.
Yes, it was retarded, but I still did the whole thing and grinded for the whole set before there were floor skips for solmiki, it took 45 minutes to do a single 35F run and you had to do 2 per day, and then the silver cost to get the gear in a reasonable amount of time was really expensive too, it was terrible endgame content, but I still did it...
>grinded for the whole set
Respect that you actually went through all the progress. The most retarded thing I did was farming for a whole week 10h a day the Manahas Pants I didnt get them. I eventually had enough after the weapon I worked one month for ended up with +6 being worse than my current one.
Were you that guy who was trying to farm Manahas without the Oracle resetting skill? Somebody kept fucking me over way back in the day like that
If you played on EU yea most likely. I channel hopped and I remember some Oracle dude but I usually skipped this instance then so the guy can keep on resetting.
Nah I played on US. It drove me insane because some fucker is trying to farm the set 25x slower. I had the set when it was bugged and didn’t even work right.
I mean I tried it the same way but eventually gave up. For farming you needed an Oracle for the rare shit and Thauma/linker for more common crap. Thinking back I cant believe I managed nearly 3k hours without losing it.
I would play TOS but the class system is too complicated and I have no fucking clue what to build. All the guides seem outdated as fuck too
Sounds like you're a brainlet, anon.
>brainlet
>70% of classes are literally not viable
>only way to find out is to get to endgame because there is no record of which entire classes should not be played because they're broken
massive skill issue
what the fuck did nexon do this time, anon dont do this to me
Why would I switch over. That's almost as retarding as switching to Fedimian Server because Senaposter told you to.
>There are gays who actually did this
>They weren't even european
Who is the new publisher?
See
what happened
So no changes? Is the game bad?
We don't know anything about how different it's going to be, but our best guess is that it won't be a whole lot.
>is it bad?
Tree of Savior is not a bad game but it has been terribly mismanaged.
What will happen to the steam one?
Nothing. It's still there. Calling this new version the "global" one is a lie.
>tfw bokor since beta
I'm still mad.
I will never not be mad.
Why did they have to do Bokor so dirty? It used to be so much fun.
NO! Don't you understand! Wizard NEEDED another summoning class, especially after giving so many classes that don't make sense to scout!
Wizard players whined about having to take non summoner classes and Bokor barely worked as anything but “lol hexing and Mackangdal” so I see why they changed it. Like I had a “Bokor” character but it was solely to use Mackangdal and the speed buff.
The good old days where bokor just didn't work at all
Bokor actually had its shit together for a while just before imc decided to ruin the entire fucking class system for no reason.
Hell, even before then, I managed to hold the top spot in arena for a while.
>They also ruined arena for no reason
PvP was always niché in this game and got only added after they got flooded with requests. You could straight up tell given the balance.
I'll bite. What was your build before they "improved" the class system.
Calling it now Bokor PD Kabba
Cleric 2
Bokor 3
Miko
Kabba1
Zealot 3
Miko was oracle 1 before Miko existed. I used to also have priest 1 in there at some point too, but being able to revive party members became less and less useful.
Plague Doctors can go swallow a knife.
I loved how helpless psychokinos became if you had the audacity to shut them down with an oracle. Like, they had literally no idea what to do after you give em the ol yellow ball treatment.
it's not the same without anons and I know they won't be playing because I still hang out with them
also I've heard it's going to be full of br monkeys since they have special containment zone on official discord
>all this drama talk
Who cares? I'll play it again for the sexy sprites and outfits.
wtf that's not a condom belt
how the fuck do i make a good summoner in this game, they have felt weak as fuck when i have tried previously
>Game has summoner class
>people abuse it for afk botting
guess it.
Speaking of summoners did they ever reimplement Alchemists crafting homonculi or was it quietly dropped?
I think you can summon some little blue spirit girl as Alchemist but I honestly can't remember.
Yeah that was disabled at some point I think I was curious if they ever put it back in.
shit game
