It's been proven JRPG turn based gameplay is flawed and the only thing redeeming the game is the story, dialogue, art style and music.

I hate when this is posted because that's not even the optimal way to beat it. That's like if you posted a webm of someone pressing the 1 button constantly to kill a mob in WoW. Yeah it's possible but you're making the game boring for yourself. You have to use magic and items in that fight and it becomes way more interesting since you're solo and not with a party and have to turn manage.

ATB meters were a death knell for RPG complexity because they actually incentivize mashing through menus, the worst part of every RPG.

          So you like FFX?

There's nothing inherently wrong with turn-based combat or random encounters but most JRPGs, including the most popular ones, handle them terribly.

Yes there's nothing wrong with playing a game you can't lose.

FFX's gameplay is improved but the setting is horrible.

this is a valid, not because of "le reading" but because all dialogue and writing in japanese games, and especially jrpgs, are garbage and contrived, literally pulp.

Why even specify "japanese games"? It's games from everywhere in general.

Nine times out of ten the player does not give a shit and just wants to get to the GAME part.

        >It's games from everywhere in general.

lol no, western games overrall have better dialogue and story pacing, nip games just drone on and on and on with the text boxes and "character development" with shit you see coming a mile away. I dont like it, but weebs sure do, which is why VNs are so popular. the ironic part is that the japs dont even tske their own stories half as seriously as the weebs do, the only exception is from soft as miyazaki is so far up his own ass, but fittingly he draws all his dtorytelling techniques from western shit like lovecraft

I just watched the old FF games on youtube at 4x speed instead of playing them as the gameplay doesn't really matter. Its the stories they are known for. I played 7 remake and 7 rebirth as they have action combat.

    Play jrpg
    >cliche moronic intro
    >characters that are the epitome of a nip trope
    >90%filler text
    >trash ads you have to kill
    >villain is the opposite of mc
    >combat becomes obsolete after the first boss
    >grinding to get past stat checks
    >abysmal nip humor usually slapstick or poo poo pee pee humor
    >some decent women to coom to
    >usually only one good song from the ost
    >the game is basically the same as any other jrpg with like two different story elements and one “unique” combat system
Just dont play this dying genre, theres a reason why gacha games adopted this gameplay and story. Its easy to reproduce and tranime gays ear it up

    >move mouse so cursor and enemy match up in the cneter of your screen
    >press LMB repeatedly
    >either he's dead or your dead
    >repeat
    >90% of FPS games are the same with maybe 1 little unique combat difference
    >not a single good song in the OST
    >only "deep" fps are RPGs like fallout nv, and it's the story and character customization that give it SOVL, not the guns or shooting

I'm starting to get the hang of this.

This is why I just started watching games on youtube in the last few years instead. I can just skip to the story bits and get it over with asap.

word it's why I read the summary to a movie on wikipedia in 2 minutes instead of spending 2 hours.

It's also why I'd rather watch porn and jerk off and smoke weed instead of build a career and get a wife and start a family.

I actually do this kinda with modern movies. I watch those youtube channels that summarise movies in 10 minutes or whatever and I watch at 6x speed. So I get the general idea of what the movie is about as fast as possible. Yes I know I'm an adhd zoomer but I cant fix it.
